Popovy Sisters Glass Eye Magpie, Cuckoo, Little Owl, and Peewit Discussion

Aug 2, 2014

1. I don't think there is a definite answer to that question. There is much less of a wait on blank dolls but painted ones with wigs, clothes and other extras might take a bit longer. I believe it depends on how busy they are. Also, if they are working on a collection, then that might slow things up a bit, too! Sometimes you might get a response but it may go to spam. Worthwhile checking spam folder before you empty it.

2. I didn't find that there was a waiting list to order. Igor responded to my email soon after their vacation. Once they send you the order form, you fill it out and email it back. I haven't gotten any info on how long it will actually take to receive my doll though. Also, keep in mind that payment is through wire transfer only at this time. They will send you bank info and the payment is wired from your bank to theirs.

I also wish to thank lostkitten for your wonderful help in answering my questions.

I do have one more question that I forgot to ask. When ordering a doll with makeup, body blush is also included? Thanks!

3. I don't know if the body blush is included with the face-up, Theresa. I ordered my girls blank. I didn't want to have to wait for them and I had someone that I wanted to do their face-ups. How is it listed on your order sheet?

4. When I ordered my blank girl, she was shipped out as soon as Igor received my payment. It all went really fast. Within 2 weeks from contacting Igor to order a blank doll, I had my girl.

5. Thanks for the answers folks.:) I've been curious about everyone's personal experience; who recently ordered one of the the open eye'd dolls since I haven't sent my form back yet. I didn't know if you'd all been waiting a while for you name to be called or you just emailed Igor for the info and placed an order since this thread opened.

Igor's been awesome at answering my "how to" questions. I'm in the blank doll camp so I know my wait wouldn't be anywhere near the wait of those gorgeous painted full sets.
Meanwhile I'm having typical dolly collector struggles: competing new dolls + needed bodies + scheduled custom work all fighting for my wallet. :doh

6. Hello all! I've been lurking on this thread since it started and have even contacted Igor who sent me a price list the next day. I have a question...how does ordering any of the accessories like shoes/wigs/costumes delay the prosess? Or it is easier to order a doll separately and then place an order for any other stuff? Can you order just shoes and such later? Or is it better to order everything at one time?

And I didn't see anyone say how long it takes for a painted or faceuped doll to arrive....any estimates?
Thanks!

7. Yes Theresa, if you order a painted doll, the makeup and body blushing are included and the Sisters also add their little signature moth tattoo somewhere on the body too! :daisy

8. When I asked Igor - he said that accessory items can be ordered separately and at any time. So you could order shoes etc. later. I'm debating the same thing…not sure if I want to lump it all in or just order the doll and build slowly.

9. I'm completely in awe of the wigs!!!!! Among everything else.

10. Thanks mdonline03! It's good to know you don't have to order everything at once! It might take me forever to save up enough that way.
Now to get over the hesitation of the bank transfer...:)

I wish there were more photos to see here. :)

11. It took me a little while to get used to the idea of the bank wire transfer too, luluna. Also the idea of practically no insurance on the doll when it's shipped. But, no else had any problems and I just had to have these dolls, so finally just jumped in. Have never been sorry.

I just looked at your Flickr pix, Luluna. Some amazing face-ups! Did you do all of them?

12. Thank you for confirming merrijane.

I also had hesitation about wire transfer, it's a lot of $$ to risk without protection, but I felt comfortable after asking another owner about her experience and reading about the integrity of the Sisters company. Shipping is quite high, but I imagine she will be shipped in the most expedited way from Russia.

Now the waiting. The hard part............

13. Today was the day!! I did the wire transfer for my OE blushed and faced up Cuckoo! Igor told me that they had a pierced ear OE Cuckoo in stock or I could wait for the new factory order to arrive. I really did not even think about pierced ears so I was thrilled to agree to take her. I can not wait for her to arrive.

By the way...I did the transfer through my credit union by phone today. Igor provided everything I needed and the transfer went very smoothly. This is the second wire transfer to a Moscow bank I have done from the US. The first one was for two copies of Marina Bychkova's Enchanted Doll book in the Russian Language. That was not for nearly as much money but it too went smoothly. The shipping does take time. The books took about two months to arrive in North Carolina from Moscow but eventually arrived. I could track them all the way to incoming customs in the US. I feel certain the Sisters will be just a expeditious and careful in their shipping.

14. Thanks for the reassurance! It does help. :) Now I just need to set aside the money! LOL

Oh thank you! I have a mish-mash of dollie faceups...some are company faceups...some are by some really talented faceup artists and a couple are done by me.:) But thank you very much!

And thanks to all who are giving their experiences with the bank transfers! I would do mine through a Credit Union so it's good to hear about that too!

15. Hi everyone :)
I'll try to answer some questions, in case i miss something, re ask :)
As for wait list.
We have big wait list. But it happen often when my emails goes to spam, so people miss their place and i take other people instead. That's why some of you contacted me and i took order immediately. So overall it's a good idia to write me from time to time and ask. In this way you have a good chances not to wait for a long time. It can take around two years to be in the wait list for full set dolls or for dolls with some outfits. But those who write me and ask usualy don't wait for so long :)
As for shipping and insurance. We don't pay for insurance on Fedex. cause we are the best insurance. Usually if something get broken during transportation we try our best to send replacement parts for our cost.

About how long to wait after you make order.
It depend on the order complexity. Painted naked doll takes around 1.5 - 2 weeks. (makeup includes body blushing)

16. Thanks Igor for the very informative update to the thread! This is great. :-)

17. I do have a question for you who already own a Sisters doll. It looks like their body is close in size to Marmite Sue. Do you think that clothing that would fit this girl will also fit Popovy body please?

18. Theresa - I think some clothes might fit, depends upon the design, as the Popovy dolls do have a smaller waist than the Marmite Sue girls.
Just by way of example, in the photo below my Popovy doll (please excuse the fact that she's off-topic due to her painted eyes) wears a Raouken corset, that is also a good fit for the MS natural body...the lacing up the back helps of course! :daisy
[IMG]

19. Thank you merrijane. I can see the difference in waist size in this great comparison shot. There was a corset outfit on Etsy made for MS and I couldn't resist it so it looks like I will be able to tighten those ribbons and make it fit. YAY! Your Raouken corset looks lovely.

How lucky are you to already own Popovy Sisters dolls!

20. Thanks theresa! If I could afford it, I would have more of these dolls. They're like candy...you just can't stop at one! :aheartbea

21. Ohhh, I actually really enjoyed seeing your Dim/Chateau doll here to get an idea for scale! I'm familiar with Popovy size, and I thought they were as big as I would be willing to go....

22. The scale in merrijane's comparison pic is confusing me a little because I'm used to the DC 07 kid's body.

This is my photo. DC Alma can wear Silkstone Barbie dresses but they won't close on Bony, so the DC 07 body's rib cage is sliiiiightly narrower than Popovy's and possibly much narrower than other DC kid bodies ;p

23. wow...even thought the DC bust looks so much larger, that's interesting!

24. Are you able to order just a blank head, like you have shown here, merrijane?

25. Thank you, merrijane, for the great comparison photos!

26. Stella - thanks for your great comparison photo. I love the DC 07 body and I didn't realise the upper torso was smaller than the PD.
Mine is the kid body-01.

Leiticia - I bought my head from a PD forum member...her body went to someone else. :daisy I do know of people who have purchased just painted heads from the Sisters, so I guess it would also be possible to order a blank one. I'm sure if you email Igor, he will be happy to advise you.

27. Thanks for posting the comparison photos! It seems like their heads are not much larger than Barbie! That alone makes me think I'll need to get the faceup included! LOL

I'd love to see more photos!

28. The last time I talked with them directly I was informed this is definitely not possible. Merri (and I) both have loose heads, these are the only two loose Popovy heads "out there" and the are the result of a special circumstance. The Sisters are aware of these two heads and that they are with us. They came about when a member decided to "upgrade" her non-painted heads to painted ones. The two non-painted ones were adopted out.

29. Moni, my head isn't one of these two, so there must be three! :) I also know of another PD forum member who recently made her first order of a blank Blue Jay with body (BelleNolia did a beautiful job of painting her) and a Bony head only. For anyone interested, I guess it'd be worth checking with Igor to see if it's now routinely possible. :daisy

30. do the high heeled feet fit any shoes other than the ones from popovy?

31. Hi All
Currently we don't offer heads only. But you can keep checking it. Maybe in future... :)

32. Merri - It's because I then bought a body... so one of my bodiless heads became whole... but that meant there was one more little floating head.... that then went to live with you :-> So I now only have ONE floating head, and you have the other. I didn't realise there was definitely a third (JJ's?)

33. Hahaha Moni - this is turning into a game of musical heads! O's two, plus mine plus JJ's = 4 :daisy

Thanks Igor, for answering the question. :daisy

34. I am on pins and needles waiting for my OE Cuckoo to arrive! I have to start making some welcome home clothes for her!!

By the way, a comment on the customer service of the Sisters. Last year I purchased a (off topic) painted eye Magpie on the PDS forum. I was new to the PDS dolls at the time and was not really aware that all of the dolls have a moth painted on them someplace. My doll did not have the tattoo though she is beautifully painted. So at the suggestion of several member and even from Igor himself, I sent an inquiry as to whether or not my doll was painted by the Sisters.

The same day I received a very nice email from Igor. He told me the doll I have was a special request from the original owner. She had asked for no body blushing or moth tattoo. The Sisters did this for her though they said it is unusual to leave off the moth. The best news is that my lovely girl was indeed painted by the Sisters. I would love her anyway but it is nice to know she was touched by the hand of the Sisters.

I am so impressed with the level of care and concern the Sisters have for their fans and customers. They are accessible and willing to help with questions about their art. In all the doll dealings I have had they are the best at customer service by far. It is refreshing!

35. Lost Kitten , I hope you post photos of your OE Cuckoo when she arrives.

And it's reassuring to know how much they care about their customers.

36. Hi All,

I wanted to see the Popovy contest entries but have been at my PC all day working on "stuff" that is due and my head is growing larger by the moment. things are getting curioser and curioser. Feel like "Alice" in DOALand. Prey tell, White Rabbit, where might I find the contest photos.

37. Hi Jill, in the middle of page 10 of the Couture Contest thread there is a link to the entries by the moderators......

38. All of the entries are here, and voting is still open! :)

39. It would be practically impossible for me to NOT post photos! LOL!

40. I haven't heard mention on the PD forum of any other shoes that fit the high heeled feet. One of the members hoped that some fashion dolls shoes might fit, but they turned out to be long enough but not wide enough. I think it might be a case of either buying the Popovy doll shoes or making your own. :daisy

41. I've been admiring the Sisters' dolls on Flickr for some time now, and I'm delighted to see that the OE versions are available -- I enjoy the painted-eye versions, but I personally tend to prefer inset eyes in my own collection.

Little Owl is so beautiful -- funds are a bit tight at the moment, but I hope to be able to bring her home someday!

-- A <3

42. i can't decide who would come home, but i'd love to have one of them here someday. it will just take a while to save enough. hopefully by then i can narrow down the sculpt!

43. I made my own but the ballet shoes from Magnetic Duckling work pretty nicely too. Just tie them tight.

44. Thank you.

Is Magnetic Duckling a person or the company name, please?

45. any chance you could post a link?

46. I will search for the information and post ASAP.

Magnetic Duckling had posted in the Market place for ballet feet and shoes in three colors. I ordered a pair of feet for a project and two pairs of the shoes. The feet were artist cast for me and the shoes are gorgeous! I see if I can find the link I used.
Here is the email I used to give her my ballet shoe request.
[email protected]

Ok I found the Marketplace posting with the shoes in it.

47. What an interesting thread. Very informative. But why there no pictures of member's doll? Just a few to compare the size but not artistic one.

48. Principessa77- there are many of us who would love to post photos of our Popovy dolls here, but they have painted eyes and as such are unfortunately off-topic on this forum. If you would like to see more, please check out the Popovy doll forum. The glass eyed girls have only recently been released and so there aren't many around just yet. I'm sure as more people acquire them, you will see lovely photos here too! :daisy

49. My Little Owl OE is here and gosh she's divine even without Faceup !

50. oh wow she is gorgeous! really looking forward to seeing what you do with her. i'm almost certain that's the sculpt i want, though i'll probably dither back and forth a dozen times while i'm saving up!

51. Such clean and delicate articulation <3 Love her, Bababaloo!! Post pictures of her with a face-up soon! :) And such small eyes!! What eye size do these girls take? :o

52. Wow - she really is lovely and so expressive. Thank you for posting Bababaloo

53. Auntbear, I keep going back and forth too. All if the sister's sculpts have so much personality that it's hard to decide which one to choose. It'd be cool to have a pair of them.

54. Personally I love Cherry and Blue Jey the most, but unfortunately they don't have an OE version :') I think out of the OE girls, I'd pick Cuckoo with her kissy lips :D

55. this is one case where id love to be able to get multiple heads to share a body, then i wouldn't have to choose. 'cause i doubt i'll be able to afford more than one doll, but i could get a couple of heads!

56. After much back and forth I chose Cuckoo for precisely those luchous kissy lips Chamillia, but it was no easy decision!

57. It's really difficult to choose between all these lovely girls !
I was set too choose Peewit but I finaly choose Little Owl.

I have no idea about the eye size but they are really small :D
And yes she's really delicate.

Thank you !

She's so beautiful and I'm simply amazed by the way her body poses so well ! :aheartbea
She's just both elegant and delicate.

58. OMG! How did I miss that first picture of your girl's gorgeous face Bababaloo? You are so right, she needs no makeup. Congratulations on her arrival, you must be so pleased.
She is magnificent.
Did you buy clothing for her?

59. She is just wonderful:aheartbea...I am a big fan of the Popovy Sisters Dolls myself although I've yet to get an open eyed one. Congratulations and I can't wait to see her with her faceup... Spectacular is all I can say....I love the Little Owl sculpt very much.....Happy, happy news....
