Popovy Sisters Glass Eye Magpie, Cuckoo, Little Owl, and Peewit Discussion

Aug 2, 2014

    1. Thanks to our wonderful moderators, the interchangeable eye versions of Popovy sculpts Magpie, Cuckoo, Little Owl and Peewit will all be On Topic for the forum. I currently do not have this version of the dolls but plan on getting one as soon as possible! Meanwhile, let's see your lovelies in the new version. Please note that the painted eye dolls are off topic. Here is the link to the announcement by The Sisters and the new dolls.

    2. Sooooo, how do you even buy one of these dolls? They don't seem to be very accessible. Being mostly gallery pieces.

    3. You just have to email Igor (he handles all the Sisters' emails) at [email protected] and give him the details of your order. He is very friendly and responds quite quickly to emails. You can check out all the resin dolls, accessories, wigs, etc. in the Oh!BJD section of their website.

I think Little Owl looks amazing. She has such a fierce look. She is my favourite of the glass-eyed girls. I do hope that the Sisters will consider giving their other sculpts the glass-eye treatment in the future.

    4. Thanks for answering! I didn't know they could be purchased outside a gallery! That's very exciting! Can you order anything at any time? And dare I ask how much they are? I know the insect themed gallery dolls were about $3000 (and worth every penny if you have it). I suppose I should e-mail and ask. I just don't want to mislead them into thinking I can order one (if they are as expensive as I'm assuming they are).

    5. Chehime, a blank doll is $800 and a fully painted doll (with glass eyes or painted eye option) is $1300. The Sisters have separate waiting lists for blank or painted dolls so it's a much shorter waiting time for a blank doll. You can email Igor and ask for a price list, which includes all the wigs, shoes, lingerie, costumes and accessories shown in their Oh!BJD catalogue.

    6. Their dolls are quite expensive once you start adding wigs and clothes. However, they are unlike anything else out there and are all works of art. I love them all and the glass eyed ones are so amazing as they do not have a cartoonish feel to them, but are super soulful. I think any doll lover should add one painted by the Sisters onto their grail list!!

    7. I am a huge fan of the new glass eye options offered by the sisters.... most BJD have the same old colours of eyes in my opinion, but I absolutely adore the fawn and desaturated colours the sisters are able to supply... I love both Little Owl and Peewit too, but my next doll (I have one so far with painted eyes) would have to be a Peewit with the soft fawn coloured eyes.

    8. I'm glad to know the blank on isn't as expensive as I thought! As beautiful as the make-up is I think I could paint one myself or find an artist to do it. $800 isn't as bad as I thought! I'll definitely add them to the "someday when I have the money" list!

I love all the girls with big teeth :) so I'm definitely going to have pick one with teeth as my first doll :D

    9. I'd love to own one with the glass eyes actually, I'll definitly start saving for a blank one. Though I emailed the gmail email and got no response so I'm not entirely sure how else to contact them. Any ideas?

    10. Uh oh! I just e-mailed them too! I wonder how long they take to reply?

    11. Hmmm hopefully not too long, please let me know when you get a response! Thanks!

    12. Igor usually responds quite quickly to emails, but I think they are on holidays at the moment which may be why you haven't yet received a reply. The Popovy Team are wonderful to deal with and treat their fans with great courtesy and respect.

    13. I am so glad they've got glass eyed versions now. That was the one thing holding me back from getting one (well, that and money!). Little Owl is gorgeous, I definitely need her in my collection.

    14. I agree with Merrijane--the Popovy Team has the best customer service and they are very responsive to their fans. There is a really long waiting list for a painted version, but it won't take as long to get a blank doll with glass eyes. I love them all, but my all-time favorite is Blue Jay, despite her gap-tooth. Unfortunately she doesn't come in glass eyes. I also love love love Cuckoo (and she does come in the glass eyes version). I hope Kawaii and Krowbar are able to get one soon--I'm always excited when there are more fans to join the club!

    15. Uh oh...I've been looming around these dolls for a while and almost glad that "it would take some effort" (and I mean there isn't a convenient shopping cart to toss one into) to find out how to purchase one of them. I have long thought of emailing but I'm slightly of the mind that if you have to ask, you can't afford it. But they are exquisite. Knowing there is an "affordable" version has just demolished my so called doll plans. I'm so glad to see them included here on DoA for discussion.

    16. I had just discovered their dolls and was blown away by them. I love them all and their clothing designs are truly amazing. I think I could swing $800 if I sell some things. I thought they'd be out of reach. Thanks for posting the information!

    17. I think this thread requires a photo of the glass-eyed Popovy girls...so here's one! :aheartbea

Girl's sculpt names from left to right - Cuckoo, Magpie (top), Little Owl, Peewit, Peewit & Little Owl. There are other sculpts named Bony, Cherry & Blue Jay but they are not available in the glass eyed option.

    18. I think my favorite is Peewit~ :3 they are all so gorgeous~

    19. Magpie and Cuckoo are my faves! Big ole buckteeth! LOL! I'm still waiting on my price list. Though if they are indeed all on vacation I can forgive them :)

    20. Does anyone know what kind of clothing they can wear? I'm having a hard time finding clothing for them that is not custom-made.

    21. My Popovy girl is not the open eyed one but I can speak to her clothing. Though I am pretty fond of buying custom exotic pieces for her there are a few that I have made. The bodies are so gorgeous that I don't like to cover them completely so I mainly make halters and lace things that leave pretty forms visible. It seems just a few scraps of clothe become high art on these girls!

Given how difficult it can sometimes be to access the higher end dolls such as the Popovys, it is amazing how very accessible information about obtaining the dolls really is. Igor is fabulous. Unlike other resin dolls in this category, the Sisters really WANT their dolls out there and make them available. It is a breath of fresh air in the stratosphere of high vogue dolls.

Hear hear!! I agree with this statement very much!

    22. I am totally in awe of these Popovy sisters dolls! Gorgeous! How tall are they please? I am seriously going to consider saving for one. Cuckoo probably. Love the gorgeous mouths and teeth!

    23. My two girls both have the ballet feet and with feet fully extended they are just under 40cm (15 3/4") tall.

    24. Thank you merrijane. Seems like a beautiful size.

    25. Hello dears!
We are happy to see a thread about our dolls on this legendary forum :) Thank you for all your warm words.
Sorry for long answer on your emails. We was away, but now we are back and I (Igor :) ) already started to reply emails, there are so many of them :) so it'll take a while but i'll reach everyone :)
Don’t hesitate to write me and ask questions even if you think that you can’t afford it. It’s ok for me to answer questions.

    26. Ok, I just can't wait anymore! I sent an email to Igor to get the information on how to order the OE Cuckoo. I think I will get her unpainted and give her a go at a faceup myself. I can see her now.....brown or green eyes, luscious cranberry mouth, smokey eye shadow and freckles!!
Updates will come as I get them. I am so excited!

It is so wonderful to see you, dear Sisters, here on this forum. You are so open and caring about your fans and we adore you! Now ever more people will be able to see you gorgeous confections !! I love your dolls and will always cherish my Magpie. Now I have sent an email to inquire about the OE Cuckoo so that I can buy her many things and show her to the world!

    27. Hi lostkitten, /Eiko, and others,

I was on the Popovy site today to see the options for the glass eyed Little Owl. I do love this sculpt. I found only 1 option for color of glass eyes for this girl, but many for Pewit. Is Little Owl only offered with dark brown eyes, or are we to assume that the same eyes shown with Peewit could also be ordered for Little Owl? Or, am I just looking at it wrongly? :o)

    28. you can combine all eye types with all mold types

    29. Thank you for posting the picture of the ladies! Could you add their names under the photo too? Thank you! They're gorgeous!

    30. Pony - I've added the sculpt names to the photo for you. :daisy

Jilllamyre, there is a choice of 15 glass eye colours. They are shown in the mold section of 'OhBJD' on the Sisters website. Here is the link http://popovy-dolls.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=176&Itemid=36&lang=en (pages 1 & 2)

    31. I wrote to Igor requesting the information on the OE dolls. He sent the order form and catalog the very same day. He said they had been on vacation as was earlier stated. Ease of ordering was fabulous. So I have ordered the OE Cuckoo, with E-09 brown eyes, and smokey M-08 makeup. Hooray! Here are the photos on the order form as returned by Igor for reference. I only ordered the painted doll with open eyes, not wigs or other things.

FYI: The payment accepted is bank transfer from the US to Russia. If you have not done this before it takes a little time but is not that difficult. If I can help anyone understand this process drop me a PM and I see if I can help you.

    32. Doing our best :) Thank you for good review and for your offer to help people with payment informations :)

    33. Congrats on your order lostkitten! I love what you chose.

Does anyone have measurements for these beauties please?

    34. The size is MSD ~42cm / ~16.5"
Here is a comparison photo I found on FlickR with other MSD girls:

    35. its 40cm high

    36. This is very helpful Bababaloo, thank you! It helps me get an idea of the body proportions.

    37. Aargghhhh why is it so so difficult to choose...
I really like Peewit but the more I look at Little Owl I found her so cute and love her expression !

    38. The dolls are jaw-dropping amazing. I don't know what is more impressive, the sculpt, the wigs, the outfits or the face-ups.... I would love to own one, but I would want it all, and there is just no way right now...

    39. LOL, welcome to the club! It is so difficult to not order everything but patience is a virtue. And these dolls give grace and life to all sorts of wigs and clothes, not just the ones made by the fabulous Sisters though they have no comparison. The resin is smooth and silky, almost warm to the touch. Clothes glide over their bodies. Also there are several folks on the PDS forum who make wonderful wigs and clothes for them, I wish I could post my Magpie in just such a wig and outfit, each that came from forum members who craft delicious things at very reasonable prices. Maybe I can message you a photo of my girl if you like.

You will love having one, even if she is nude for a while.

      LostKitten

    40. Gosh, I'm not sure if I can paint a face that small! I want to try though!

    41. Happy to see your love to our creations!
One of the reasons why Sisters started Open Eyes line is that they are already pretty even without makeup :)

      • x 2
    42. Will you ever make open-eyed version of the Bony, Blue Jay and Cherry sculpts? I would love to own an open-eyed Bony or Cherry.

    43. Just wanted to add that the customer service and responsiveness has been amazing just addressing my silly questions. It's so refreshing...

    44. I have been looking and looking at these girls, and I have decided I'd better start saving for one, they really are so beautiful. The problem is that the wigs, outfits and even shoes are just as amazing as the dolls- everything they've created for these dolls is truly amazing.

I really want the complete set of the girls with the outfits that look like grashoppers- so cool... and I love dolls and bugs so not getting them is tearing at me.

Question for those with the dolls- can they share wigs our outfits with anyone else? What size head do they have?

    45. I was all set to order a blank Popovy girl, but now I am rethinking maybe getting her with the makeup and blushing. The sister's work just seems to suit them so perfectly, but it adds significant $$ that aren't in the budget. Gotta sleep on it.

    46. I confirm :)
I just place my order and the person helped me a lot and was really nice !
Now I guess I just need to wait to see my lovely Popovy shipped soon...

    47. I am so excited to see Popovy on this forum - I have two painted eye (Bony & Cherry), but would REALLY love a OE Peewit. I can't recommend the quality of the dolls highly enough, the jointing, poseability and the finish on the resin are stunning. They are completely worth the wait and Igor is lovely to deal with :)

    48. Congrats on your order Bababaloo!

    49. So excited! Put my order in today. I ordered my girl with makeup. I don't think that I could finally get her and send her out again, and I love the look that the Sisters give their sculpts. Nervous and really happy. My budget, not so happy.

    50. Thank you ! Now the most annoying part in this hobby begins: the wait :)
I can't hardly wait to receive my Popovy.

      @theresa 226 congrats too !
Which girl did you ordered ?

    51. So happy for you too Babaloo! I ordered Cuckoo. I also ordered 07 from the choice of eyes available. Which sculpt for you? Makeup?

    52. Just jumping in, but I may have to get Little Owl for myself for my birthday next year. Gives me plenty of time to scrounge the money up...but I do love her soo much.

    53. The bodies of these girls are so beautiful that I often leave mine without clothing for periods of time. this is particularly true of they have body blush, manicure & pedicure. I have one right now who is astride a large Polar bear, but do not have the outfit yet that I have in my mind for her. It makes a striking scene. Sort of Lady Godiva, but on a Polar bear. :o)

I am very excited about having the Popovy dolls on this forum. They lend themselves so well to BJD, art, and fashion. The perfect blend. And, handle and pose so beautifully. They are absolutely worth the wait and Igor is shows such patience with questions. I honestly cannot find anything about these girls that I don't like.

The Popovy sisters are also very sweet with sharing their ideas and lives with their collectors, making things twice as much fun.

I have a Bony & Blue Jay and am also set to order Little Owl, Trayola. Love her little Asian sculpt. Her look (to me) says that she is the Empress of Everything. :o)

      Congratulations, Theresa!
You will not be sorry. Your budget will recover. :o) Please share photos when you receive her.

Hello, Sisters. Your girls are beautiful even without makeup. Many of your collectors have posted beautiful photos of their dolls without makeup and they are stunning. They are so graceful in their posing.

    54. I am trying to decide between bony and little owl. Any owner pics of these dolls with your own facups??

    55. Nice choice for Cuckoo.
      I ordered a blank little Owl :)

    56. I can't wait to see all your new girls when they come!

    57. I also love the little owl sculpt,. I love all of the sculpts! Those lips are just TDF. I would love to have gotten a wig and shoes too.

    58. Question for those that just ordered. How long was your name on the waiting list before it was your turn to order?
