Popovy Sisters Glass Eye Magpie, Cuckoo, Little Owl, and Peewit Discussion

Aug 2, 2014

    1. I always forget to post pics here, (because usually it goes wrong!) and I'm never sure which threads we can share photos on anyway.... so here goes, let's hope I don't get banned! Here is Lil' Owl a few days ago, cradling Sister Cuckoo's head in her lap, the dress and wig make me think of the 70's so I tried to give the pics an old Polaroid Instamatic feel :)

    2. She looks great, you caught the vintage feeling very well

    3. What wig size do they take?

    4. I believe they take 5-6 wigs.

    5. I love her dress.

    6. Are there any patterns for clothes for these gorgeous dolls?

    7. @chrystal there are a few sellers on Etsy, Ursi Sarna for instance, but they are so tiny and slim they don't fit any other fashion doll clothing without some alterations. I reworked a few Tonner and Sybarite long dresses for mine a while back but it's very hit and miss.

    8. So I just this minute saw the new sculpt Quetzal on instagram. She is soooo gorgeous :aheartbea:aheartbea:aheartbea I think I just found my perfect Popovy sculpt! :love
Link to insta post here! (I think she looks almost exactly like the singer FKA Twigs. It's a very good likeness of her!)

    9. Really not my cup of tea this time, I think they will have to go a long way to beat Tawny Owl, one of the most beautiful doll faces I've ever seen. I love the styling but not so much the sculpt. I am a bit confused by the "Indian" connection too, I assume they don't mean India as in the continent? With the name Quetzal, I assume indigenous Guatamalan? Are these peoples referred to as Indian?

    10. I am not sure what they mean by "Indian," but I'm wondering if it is a translation problem since the artists are Russian. Maybe they confused "Indian" with "indigenous"? They appear to be getting some flack about the name and word choice on Instagram, which is a shame since I don't think they intended any offense.

@vonbonbon - I agree that Tawny Owl has a level of detail that is rare among doll sculpts of this size (her lips are so perfect!). I think she is very striking!

Quetzal has beautiful features, too, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of her. I think if they were going for South American they could have pushed the "ethnic" (for lack of a better word) appearance more, and it would be nice to see a different type of nose bridge for a change, but she is still amazingly detailed.

I'm dying to see the other three faces, but I greatly fear they are going to make us wait a year for each face!

    11. @StellaMarigold, no, I am sure they didn't intend any offence or confusion, they seem like lovely people. I was thinking about it later and I have seen instances of southern American (or is it Central???) indigenous people being called Indians....I assume they are all distinct peoples though, and as northern Native Americans don't like the term, I immediately thought of the continent of India and got a bit confused! As always the sculpting is superb, just not a face that appeals to me particularly. I felt the same way about Cherry and Landy, we can't all love the same sculpts.

    12. Landy is my next doll dream! So far I have only Peewit in tan. Her name is Regina.

    13. Hello! Just purchased one of these girls and have a question on eye size? I dont know if I will stick with what color she comes with. Thanks!

    14. @Fushia Lace : Popovy's agent Igor has replied the question about the eye size in this thread some time ago, his answer is on the page 35.

    15. I admired these dolls for a long time now, and I love the new sculpt. But how could I buy them? Asking here before I email them and make a fool of myself or such ... Thank you :)

    16. Thank you nufa for helping me out with that. I started to follow this thread when it started but never thought I could get one. I got lucky and picked up Peewit on the market. I am excited.

    17. @Fushia Lace : You are welcome. ^^

@Ashemanu: The best way to order a doll by Popovy Sisters is to email them, saying you are interested in ordering a doll and will need an ordering form and the actual price list. Their agent Igor will email you the ordering form and the price list and then you will be hopefully able to make your choices and fill it in. If not, you can also ask your questions per email, too, if there are some to clarify before ordering. ^^ You can also ask about the waiting time. It depends on if you would like to have your doll blank (short) or with faceup (longer), with or without a wig (there is a long waiting time for their exquisite wigs).

    18. @nufa Thank you!! I will do that! I looked at their wigs, they are true pieces of art. But I think I would prefer a simpler model for my girl which needs less maintenance ^^

    19. @Ashemanu : Nothing to thank, you are welcome. ^^

    20. I got my Peewit! She is so amazing! I ordered her new eyes and have to make her a wig until hers arrives. Doing the happy dance over here!!!

    21. She is so beautiful! Dreamy...

    22. @nufa Your girl looks beautiful! Turquoise really suits her skintone.

I couldn´t resist their 20% off offer on naked and unpainted doll and ordered a beige Quetzal on body II neck. I am so excited, I admired their dolls for so long. Now I just need to start shopping some eyes, hair and clothes for her :D

    23. @Ashemanu Congratulations!! I'm in the midst of ordering a grey Landy on Body III!!! I couldn't resist 20% either :o

    24. @Ashemanu: Thank you very much. Congrats on your purchase! I am interested to know how you will find the beige color, never seen it before. ^^

    25. Does anyone know if Tender Creation outfits/lingerie fit Popovy girls?

    26. @Ashemanu: I don't know exactly, but I guess, generally they wouldn't fit, it will be probably too loose on Popovy. This comparison picture by megfashiondoll could be helpful. Tender Creation are taller and bigger on all measurement points compared to Popovy. It depends of course on an outfit, some loose things would be ok, but not the tight things (as lingerie for example), they will not fit. Popovy are quite petite.

    27. @nufa Thank you! Ok, they are totally different. I was just wondering cause when I search for "Popovy" on etsy I often get items for Tender Creation, especially for lingerie. But no, this will never work.

    28. @Ashemanu: Yes, I see. Nothing to thank, you are welcome. ^^

    29. Beautiful. Can't wait to see what you do with her. What resin tone is she, if you don't mind me asking?

    30. @Hugo Thank you! She is beige.

    31. @Ashemanu: Congrats on your beautiful Quetzal! ^^

    32. Hello, I'm new to Popovy dolls and was wondering if anyone could tell me how often they have sales (if they do have sales at all)?? Also, how often do they release new sculpts? :daisy

    33. @Lotte Rotten : You can order their dolls all the time. Do you mean discounts? There are no discounts, the prices are firm. There is no usual pre-orders, they take the orders all the time. The right way for ordering is to contact their sales agent Igor per email. If you are interested in buying their dolls, ask him about the actual price list and the ordering form, both documents will be sent per email to you. After that you will try to fill the ordering form in and then their sales agent will check if everything is right and then he can say how long approximately it will take to make the order. The blank dolls are relatively quick, 1,5-2 months in my experience, the dolls with faceups take more time. The wigs are very time consuming.
As for the releases, usually 1-2 heads a year, but who knows, they create when they feel inspired. ^^

    34. @Lotte Rotten , I can second everything @nufa just advised, Igor is really friendly and speaks great english, they send you a price list, you just check the codes of what you want against the prices and fill out the form with exactly what you want and he will then tell you the total and how long you will wait. Blank dolls are really fast, I've never waited more than a few weeks. I think the wait time on painted dolls with any kind of accessory is now around 12 months because they have so much to do, everything is hand made by the 2 sisters. I never know if we are allowed to post links to outside websites here, but I can let you have a link to the website/catalogue and their email address to get the order form if you PM me :) You won't regret it, they are the most incredibly dolls

    35. @Lotte Rotten I actually ordered the girl I'm currently waiting for on a discount. They have only offered it once that I have seen and I saw them post about it on their instagram stories. The sale lasted for a very short time and, if I'm not wrong, Quetzal and Tawny were not included. It was never advertised anywhere else that I know of. My friend and I ordered at the end of March and we are still waiting on our girls though I think they should be coming home soon :eusa_pray

    36. @nufa @vonbonbon Thank you both for answering my questions- I will contact the manager of Popovy for more information regarding prices- thanks!
@kagami Ahhhh I see- so it was only the older sculpts that were on discount for a short time? I'm glad you're mentioning this because maybe it's a good idea then to keep an eye on their Instagram- thank you! :3

I noticed that there's 2 different options for the feet- high heeled and ballerina- with the ballerina feet option, is it possible for the doll to wear flat shoes?

    37. No, they are designed stand on the pointed toe, the foot looks weird if you try to stand them flat because of the ankle joint.

    38. My Land¥ arrived yesterday and I spent the afternoon giving her a faceup and blushing her body! Her name is Thandie and I'm really digging her without a wig... <3

    39. @vonbonbon Thank you for answering my question- I appreciate it :3

@kagami Lovely photo of your girl- and I do agree, she looks really good as a baldie^^

    40. @kagami Grats to getting your girl! She looks beautiful! Such a nice outfit, it really compliments her skin tone!

@Lotte Rotten I got my Quetzal in a Sale this year, every naked doll was 20% less. Which was alot and well appreciated, especially since they don´t take Paypal and money transfer is totally expensive regarding fees.

    41. @Ashemanu a 20% is a VERY good discount! But it seems it's the first time Popovy has offered a discount like that? As much as I would like a doll from them, I can't afford their prices right now- since I also have to pay high custom fees for items purchased outside of EU. Wish they would offer another discount some time next year!! Then I'd be able to get a doll! ><

    42. @Lotte Rotten I was very surprised about the 20% too - but it happened when COVID really started to hit the economy, so maybe they did it to push sales. She was finished superfast and was sent with TNT - no custom fees due to the value she had been declared with. So the most expensive thing (beside her + shipping of course) were the fees for the money transfer, around 25€, if I recall correctly.

    43. @Ashemanu You're probably correct that C19 may have had something to do with the sudden sale- you were lucky to get your girl :3 Do you have photo of her?

    44. Yes, one page back, in the middle - it´s the only photo on that page. I hope she comes back from my face up artist this or next week :)

    45. @Ashemanu Ahhh of course! Even without a face up, she looks great! I really like the way you have styled her- and the beige skin tone looks very good, fair but not too pale.

    46. A new discussion thread: Part 2 !

      :)
