Popovy Sisters Glass Eye Magpie, Cuckoo, Little Owl, and Peewit Discussion

Aug 2, 2014

    1. Do these lovely girls come with s hooks in hands and feet? .... And what about the head? Is it a s hook or an o-ring??

    2. There is a ring in the head, I did not changed the hands cause sisters tide dolls strings very strong. I think there are hooks, but please, maybe someone more sure will replay.

    3. Ooh my gawd :doh how am I just discovering these dolls now???? They are so gorgeous and expressive. And the posing is just so......fierce! I am going to have to save up for a Popovy Sisters dolls now.....

    4. Thank you for your reply and help :)

    5. The h
The head is definitely held using a D ring... As for the hands and feet, let me just check with the artist who painted mine...to be continued...

    6. Thank you! :D

    7. @Dreadfulme ... I have news regarding the Popovy hands and feet...
There is not one single S hook in the whole body!!! The hands and feet have tiny bars embedded in them and the whole system is linked up to a D ring at the neck where the head fits on, You can only remove hands and feet by taking apart the whole doll. Echo Undine said she has never worked on a doll that is put together like this before.
Hope that helps answer your questions :thumbup

    8. Thank you so much for the info, HoneyRyder !!!! It does help a lot ~

    9. They're strung exactly as Yukidolls are *with just one hook in their head*. However they're more difficult to take apart than Yukidolls due of their size and the thightness of their strings.
The ''D'' hook inside their head it's made to be no removable at all and, as HoneyRyder has already said, they also have no hooks in hands or feet.
Make use of a puller to disassemble-reassemble them it's almost impossible since their channels (I'm not sure that this is the right word to use) are pretty narrow. I would suggest to use, if you really need to disassemble one of them, a ribbon or a thin piece of wire.

    10. Thank you so much for the in depth description of how to go about restringing Popovy girls and what their channels look like. You used all the right words btw ~

    11. Hi everyone. I am happy to be here because i am waiting for my very own Little Owl in ivory. I was lucky enough to get her from the market place. I can't wait to have her. I have in mind her character and the face-up. I hope it will work for her.

    12. Congrats, be prepared to get blown away by these amazing girls made by the sisters. They are unbelievably beautiful and wonderful to handle and play with and photograph. Can I ask what style and colouring are you thinking of???

    13. The doll I saw appeared darker than the mocha in this picture. More like the color of chocolate.

    14. Thank you so much @HoneyRyder . I had two PD girls before, but had to let them go ( due to unfortunate events ), so i know the superb quality of these dolls. Ever since i saw the dolls on the new body, i knew that i will need one. I missed a few opportunities here on DOA to get beautiful dolls, but when the seller contacted me about her Little Owl, i decided to have her no matter what. Because she is in ivory skin tone, i will try to make her as an albino girl. Recently, i saw some wonderful pictures of albino people, so i want to try to give her such face up. I hope it will work for her.

    17. @nufa - Congratulations! She is lovely!!!

    18. @nufa ... Your girl is wonderful, the pics are very nice too. Did the sisters paint this one? The way the dolls pose, feel and handle are quite unlike anything else!!! Sheer beauty and joy to own. Congrats and enjoy :thumbup

    19. @chrystal & @luluna: Many thanks! ^^
@HoneyRyder: Thank you very much. Yes, the FU and blushing are made by Popovy Sisters. Yes, you are quite right, the feeling is absolutely special, I am so happy to have her.

    20. She is absolutely adorable. Love the way she is painted. Congratulations on such a beauty.

    21. Hello everyone! I am just lurking around for some doll discussions and I accidentally found yours. I might heard of these Popovy dolls before but I just maybe did not give much attention. I really like the 1/4 scale doll range so right now I been getting Dollshe Craft Fashion size dolls, Iple House's FID version, Raccoon dolls and others. Just reading the pages of your Popovy discussion and am now so obsessed with this Popovy doll! Thank you for the very informative discussion, photos and it really shows how you are all interested & hooked on the Popovy dolls. I did check out their gallery website and so amazed by the artistic and creative design, style & poses of the Popovy dolls! Thank you also for the lovely dolls you shared. They are so beautiful!!! However, I have to wait for a while before I can manage to get one. :atremblinI still have some remaining dues on other ordered dolls. After this, will definitely get at least one Popovy with Peewit eyes head and with sand color body. I did get in touch with Igor for initial inquiries already. Someday, would like to share her when she finally exist.
      :love

    22. Hope you can get your Popovy Peewit! They are absolutely stunning dolls. And quite addicting! I have three girls (one glass eyes version and two painted eyes) and absolutely adore the Popovy Sisters' work. Their new skintones are very pretty too - I am eyeing up chocolate (especially on a Magpie)! :D

    23. Hello seraphicdolls & thank you. Yes, I am hoping maybe I could place the order few weeks from now. I just wish when that time comes I won't wait too long to get her. I am also eyeing in getting the chocolate skin color and perhaps Little Owl with painted eyes version would be really be nice.
      :3nodding:

    24. Popovy dolls are so beautiful, I love the unique faces they all have! I wish I was rich so I could buy them all.

    25. Hello Rollyfl, I was waiting for my doll for about 4 months, so I would say place the order earlier ( if finances allows of course:roll:) I have Peewit In ivory colour -she was definitely worth the wait!

    26. Thanks for the tip Dressmaker. I will definitely do it asap!!! Cause I want my girl now!
      :3nodding:

    27. Ooh! A Little Owl in chocolate with painted eyes - that would be amazing!

I have a Peewit and Blue Jay with painted eyes in Ivory and a Cuckoo in Ivory with glass eyes. My sister is a big Bony fan and I must say I am equally in awe of her - and Magpie, especially in a darker skintone. :love I agree all of the models are too die for. I can't pick a favorite.

Also have been wondering if they still are making Cherry - or if she was a limited time only. She's a beauty!

    28. @seraphicdolls, now that you mention the other pretty faces and looking at the Popovy website, I know the blue Jay is only with painted eyes being offered. So does the Bony & Cherry as well. Eventually, will they offer these with insert eyes as well? Not sure with the process if it's a separate head mold or do they just cut the eye holes after? I am sure it's not but maybe. I know it's delicate to cut the eye holes and I will probably damage the eyes. Like the Unoa face plates, they have some tutorial on how to widen the sleepy eye holes, either you drill or file to shape the eye opening.

    29. Yes - Blue Jay, Bony, & Cherry only are available with painted eyes. All of the other models (Little Owl, Peewit, Cuckoo, & Magpie) can either have painted or glass eyes. I am not sure if it is a separate mold or not (I would believe so). I know some people have altered the painted eyes models to have glass eyes. However, I just love how the models how they are and wouldn't want to do this "surgery" to them! The resin is actually quite thick, so I don't think the process would be very easy.

With how the Sisters paint the eyes, they are so realistic anyway. Love all the models - glass eyes or painted eyes. :D So beautiful!

    30. I like the idea of head version with glass eye holes for versatility of changing eye colors. Like I change change the eye color that goes nicely with a red hair, dark hair, blonde etc. But I really like the look of a painted eyes also cause it looks more special. Maybe I can enhance the glass eyes with painted accent along the pupil/ iris. I am sure some doll artist have done this idea before.

    31. That sounds like a fabulous idea. I love the different colors of eyes that the Popovy sisters offer. Pink, white, green, etc.! :) Saw your name on the Popovy forum also - welcome!

    32. @seraphicdolls, Thank you! I just went to the first discussion on this forum and found that link. It's great and am so excited now to get one Popovy ASAP!
      :D

    33. YEH! I finally place my first order of Popovy doll! I order a blank Peewit (eyes) with sand skin color. And in high heels.

    34. I got my Popovy. Some local was selling theirs. So excited. It's a modded BlueJey (glass eyes). Now to find some shoes, the most important thing!

I searched back through this forum, but didn't see what I was looking for.

Other than Ursa on Etsy (who makes lovely popovy clothing and shoes) are there any other shoes that the new ballet feet can use.

    37. Congratulations, Gooddaysunshine, Blue Jay with the inset eyes is one of my grail dolls. :) Really hope the Sisters will introduce all her sculpts with the inset eyes option one day. :) I've got Sand-skin Peewit with ballet feet at home and Moka-skin Little Owl with high-heeled feet on the way. :)
Regarded the shoes the Sisters make gorgeous shoes that are definitely worth investment and besides that I'm a big fan of Ursi Sana's work, her shoes are so detailed and professional. I've already bought several pairs from her and will definitely buy more. :)

    40. Wow congrats. Make sure to share pics with her face up.

    41. @Gooddaysunshine, Thank you very much. So thrill that I finally saw an actual Popovy in my hands. They string her really tight & strong so the body pose steadily. Very impressed with the quality of the resin. So realistic details on her body, hands, feet etc.
      :3nodding:

    42. congrats @Rollyfl, love her expression already, she looks like she is ordering you to finish her face now! is it my imagination or are her ears pierced?

    43. Hello auntbear and how are you? Yes, I order her with pierce ear and I think you have to mention it when you placed the order. She arrived early than I expected so I want to really take my time to do her face up and definitely share the results.
      Thank you.

    54. To be honest, I think there's no prettier BJD than Popovy Sisters' Little Owl. Every single detail of her sculpt is beautifully ethereal, not to mention even the name is cute af. I mean, come on. Little Owl. How beautiful is that? :D
