Playing with dolls: what did you do with your doll today that made you happy? <3

Nov 12, 2017

    1. I got my girl a new wig, and it changed her entire look! I'm honestly thinking about using her for a different character. She was originally supposed to be Jane Eyre but now she gives me a 20s Flapper vibe.

    2. I bought new brushes for faceups.

    3. I turnt an old toy suitcase into a carrier bag for my yo-sd sized dolls, updated my doll blog and planned some new crafting projects I wish to start doing next weekend. I have had pretty busy and exchausting spring, so I am super happy I have more time for my doll hobby this summer.

    4. I welcomed a new Haru Casting boy into my doll family today yay ^.^ I had already ordered a wig and eyes for him and I was so happy to see that both fit his personality absolutely perfectly <3

I just love when everything falls into place with a new doll and the concept you had previously visualized in your head indeed works out •^-^•

    5. got to take ollie out for some pics in the garden - it seems like every time i plan on taking him somewhere for pics it rains like crazy, so i haven't had a chance to take him out for a long time... but i decided to take advantage of the sunshine today and take a few quick snaps of him in our front garden! i need to bring him out more, every time i see him i fall in love all over again :D

    6. I started on a simple scarf today! It's a small step but I want to learn to make other nice accessories for my doll by hand. Maybe in a few years I will have enough practice to make more elaborate items for my dolls! :3nodding:

    7. Today I learned new pattern-making techniques for my doll, and I can't wait to use them soon.

      • x 8
    8. I made my first very basic sleeveless shirt. Its going to be part of the overall outfit I have in mind for my doll. Its really intimidating to figure out the patterns I need for the rest of the outfit...but hey progress is progress ;)

    9. Played with my dolls for the first time in a month or so. I had bought some Glitter Girls sets at the start of the year that I was finally able to try one of my girls in. They work really well for summer! I might switch the rest into summer gear.

    10. Made a sleeveless jacket with a hood for Willow, my Mirwen. She looks like a forest elf now :)

      • x 3
    11. Attempted to take photos of my Delf dreaming El this morning (the current favourite :D) because I wanted to show off his full outfit. Realised that he is too tall for my backdrop when he's wearing his big chunky boots. So now I've added "get a bigger backdrop" to my to do list. Also ordered some new props for him (and probably for the Soony too as realistically she always end up stealing everyone else's things )

    12. Today I restrung, wired and partially re-sueded Saga, because she was being really kicky. Also gave her a quick scrub because she had some stains probably from her clothes.
I also recently wired and restrung Minka because her elastics were so old and made her super floppy. Now my girls can hold poses and stand up straight without any struggles :chibi
I'm excited to take them out into the world and have a photoshoot with them!

    13. I finished this Hexagon cardigan for my doll today! I'm really happy how it turned out :)

    14. I sat down and looked at my dolls. They bring me such a joy. Didn't even touch them.

    15. I got in my first, pre-loved project doll recently. I've done my first unstringing, my first maintenance. It's not going quite the way I hoped (I'm trying to reduce the extreme yellowing on a white resin doll), but it's going great at getting me over the fear of "hurting" the dolls! I'm getting so much more comfortable with doing things that intimidated me before, and I'm really enjoying it despite the dips not going as planned lol.

    16. I got a soldering iron, some ear protection and some longer pliers in the post today so tomorrow I'm going to try and set up a miniature forge and do some tests for miniature armour.

    17. I took Michi out of the box and put a new outfit on her - instantly just squeeing all over her, what a cutie :D

    18. Made a new shirt and some mesh stockings that fit Aurelia. I'm probably going to make more pairs of the stockings in more colors since they turned out surprisingly well.

    19. Today I continue with the creation of a wedding story on my WP. Still a draft, but I'm a little closer to the goal than i was yesterday.

    20. I work from home and today I had one of my SD's sitting next to me while I was working! I found myself when I was not on a call with a client just talking to her making conversation and it made me feel better since I work a high stress job in mental health/crisis services. Ive never done this before... just having a doll with me while I worked. So I think I may do this more often since it lowered my stress level and gave me some company that I wouldn't have had otherwise. I usually have my dolls sitting in boxes or in a cabinet (for the smaller MSD/YO sized) so having one out directly next to me on my desk is just so nice and makes me so happy.

    21. I finally found a place in my bedroom to make a cute spot for my dolls, where i can take photos of them and cute scenes. I also finished denim pants and crocheted hoodies for them :)

    22. I dressed up my pale Lusan and Vittoria and took pics for IG posts or reels. Also snuggles with my tan Lusan. He is so comforting!

    23. I am on holiday, so I did a photoshoot outside with two of my dolls for whom I recently made new flower hair bands. Additionally, I did some fruit props (most of my food props are baked goods, so I need some variety) and a new magic wand for my little yo-sd doll. Now I am searching yo-sd patterns, because I want to make a new shirt. :3

    24. I lined all my dolls on my speakers to listen to Malice Mizer together :sweat

    25. I do this also.

    26. I took Rosanna out on my back deck while I was crocheting! I love hanging out with my dolls! Although, I get paranoid about bringing them in the sun too often LOL.

    27. Was playing around with some floating heads I have last night and stumbled upon a surprisingly good hybrid option for one of them. So today with more light and a smidge more energy I committed to it and wow. I now have a new sassy girl who I just adore. :D She's a MNF Soo Dark event head (the cute pouty one) and I gave her an older Resinsoul body and some spare Dollzone hands I had stored. She looks incredible and I'm baffled as to why all 3 resins match so well. Not perfect, but with a touch of blushing it wont be noticeable I think. So anyway I love her a lot and she will be my buddy for the night as I contemplate what kind of faceup she needs and the rest of her styling. ♥

    28. How cool! It's like you discovered a new doll from all the parts!

    29. I just hot glue sueded the shoulders and thigh joints of a DF-H body and now he is so much less frustrating to handle and he stands so much more securely. :dance

    30. I found a little metal chair at Michaels that is juuuuust slightly too big for my YOSD boy, and it's not only perfect since that helps him look more childlike with his feet swinging in the air, it was on clearance :D

    31. I am thinking about making more props.

    32. Making wig caps for my whole gang, and if I have the time and energy to, I'll also start preparing the alpaca hair for wefts ^^

    33. Well, after having owned this doll since 2016, I finally have a character-appropriate outfit for her... On a whim I bought her a flight/combat suit looking thing, meant for male dolls. I knew it was going to be baggy and hoped it was going to be alright despite that. Well, I finally dressed her up in her new outfit today and she looks gorgeous. I can't stop looking at her. Just the right amount of bagginess/masculinity for her character.

I went and snapped some quick photos and I just don't know how to take photos anymore because I can't do it justice... Her wig looks like a half-shaved pompom in photos, while in reality it looks like the hair of someone who cuts their own hair with no regard for style, which also suits her character. I am so, so happy I didn't sell her and decided to try one more time to find her a character-appropriate outfit... (Also, the coincidence of me posting about a doll named Anka finally finding her style, after the user above me is... lol).

    35. I unboxed a secondhand doll last night, and today I was able to unstring it and give the body a thorough bath. It's drying now and I'm looking forward to restringing with new elastic. Also took the chance to give one of my dolls a thorough wipe, even though she's very overdue for unstring/deep-clean/all fresh internals. (A task for later, probably will take a few days) I love giving dolls TLC through maintenance :kitty2

    36. Yesterday I changed my Delf Dreaming El's look completely. He was wearing quite a formal outfit before and it really wasn't working for me, so I put him in a hoodie and a faux fur wig and now he looks ADORABLE. I spent quite a long time just sitting with him and my Soony and staring at them both because I love them so much! (We are also waiting for a new arrival, so I was feeling very excited about that too and thinking about how I might style the incoming boy)

    37. I finished my doll sofa project & took some photos outside. I have been wanting a sofa for my dolls for years and years, so I finally decided to make one. :) I also continued my faux doll fire place project. I need to do some painting.

    38. Accomplished a few ''finally''s  finally settled on a name for my newest girl, (the one that had the nose job) her name's Pihla! I also finally managed to style her wig to my liking, it only took me 6 tries, and I'm still not a 100% satisfied with it, but close enough. Oh and I finally glued in her lashes, so her faceup is now officially finished!
So here's Pihla's first appearance as herself!

    39. Crocheted a yellow-orange bikini for HID lady. Wiped one face up that I didn't quite like. It did a disservice to the strong yet delicate features of the face. The sculpt is more beautiful just as it is blank. Obviously there will be another face up, in due time.

    40. Restrung my two floppiest girls today, SoSo and Bella. They are posing like champs again!:celebrate

    41. Today was not bjd day but mjd day. Bought 6 clearance dolls from Walmart. Enjoying opening those boxes for few hours. Googling what seria they came from. Doing clothes swiping. Very relaxing & enjoyable. Some tiny clothes they got quite inspiring to try to scale up to 1/3 & 1/4 size. Just need to find motivation to craft things instead of buying things & store them for my crafts plans that never get crafted…

    42. The other day I noticed that the 4-5" wig I got for my tiny 1.7 iMda was looking a little matted, so I decided to comb it. Which of course ended up combing out all of the lovely curls, so I decided to follow the instructions online to just wet the wig and let the curls reconstitute... Yeah uh that didn't happen. I guess the curls were heat-set into the straight fibre.

So I decided to just commit to what I did, cleaned and combed the straightened wig some more, then gave it a haircut (since it was now too long without the curls). And I have to say, I think it looks better on the doll than the original curled wig did! Just frames her face better now that it's less poofy. And it'll be easier to take care of from now on, since natural wigs have to be brushed occasionally or they start to mat.

    43. After having my Resinsoul Song for nearly 3 years I finally gave him a face up I'm happy with and his name finally came to me too!

I named him Caprice, meaning "an impulse, or whim" mostly because in the 3 years of owning him I kept him in a box thinking that buying a doll was just a huge impulse buy. Thankfully that's not the case and I'm so looking forward to buying a wig and completing a full outfit :D

    44. Right now I'm in bad shape health wise, bad flare, so doing anything at all with the dolls is an effort. I made a deal to get my Moonlight Wonder head a nice female body next week. At this point I just have to settle on a wig and some eyes and make her a skirt and she's looking good.

    46. Yesterday I found a vase and arranged some flowers. Bit tiny for the scale but it's OK.

    47. Went to the fabric store, bought some ribbons, and made a hair accessory for Dollie. I used to be a huge crafter and seamstress, but ever since my neck injury I just haven’t really felt the desire to craft (it’s pretty painful). It wasn’t a long project, but it felt good to make something for the first time.

    48. It's such a little thing, but I made my tiny fairy girl an apron so she can work in her Apothecary and not get her dress dirty. It took three tries to get it right, but I am SO happy with how it looks. Now I want to make more so I can play around with colors and outfits LOL

    49. I made an experimental jacket for one of my girls (most of my stuff is in storage because I'm moving into a new house shortly) by frankensteining some shirt patterns together. The result was passable and lessons were learned.

I also showed my dolls to my new housemates for the first time and they think they're cute :3nodding:

    50. I changed Blue's (Soony's) outfit. We've gone very pink this time! (her favourite colour, despite her name ) I also did a bit of organising of my doll clothes drawer. I've been gradually trying to put everything into plastic packaging to keep it neat.

I was going to change River's (Dreaming El's) outfit too, but I was tired and my back was aching from sitting on the floor too long, so he'll get an outfit change another day.

    51. I started working on my Freya's tiny face up and hand blushing! I don't think I have the time to finish her face today, but then again, I said I wouldn't have time for her until our move was over, (-it's not) so who knows  the weather deviated from the forecast and it's been a nice warm-ish and dry day instead of the wet, cold and sad, so I took that as my sign to leave packing for tomorrow and take advantage of being able to spray msc outdoors.

    52. It's kind of stupid, but I sat her on a tissue box with a stuffie. She was so cute ;_;;; I got some really nice photos, too. She doesn't usually sit like that ;^^ I also played around and tried new poses, and got to try on her horns for the first time.

    53. Been feeling pretty downcast lately, and today's sewing project did not go well (worked with a fabric from hell, struggled every step and all the stitching is awry). But I went and played with a couple of dolls, and one of them was looking so beautiful today that I took a photo. Looking at my dolls cheers me up.

    54. Tangentially doll-related: re-arranged my living room furniture so that the glass display case is no longer in the sun. Now I can start working on a permanent doll display! :celebrate

    55. I've been trying to get all the basics done for all my dolls - wigs, shoes, outfits, face-ups, eyes - and I realised this morning that I'm actually almost there.
Not that they all look the way I want them to look, but there's nobody without eyes or a wig, and they're all at least decent (either wearing pants/leggings or dresses) and most of them even have shoes.

Next up of couse I actually want all of them to have the *perfect* eyes, wigs, etc., but that's for later. For now I'm enjoying the lack of dolly nudity and baldness. :3nodding:

    56. I finally finished Freya's faceup! She's the only doll I have at our new place, and it's been a really sunny and warm september, so I decided to take advantage of the weather (again) painting such a tiny face definitely was a challenge, but glueing on her lashes was a special kind of torture. Normal lashes were too long and bulky so I did the "reasonable" thing and cut off the hairs from a lash strip and glued her lashes on one hair at a time... I hope to never do that again :sweat
But yes! Now my tiniest doll has a face and I can barely look away- she's so precious! :D

    57. Spring arrived to my part of the world - everything's blooming and nice for doll pics, but the weather is quite unpredictable with rain and wind (and hay fever, my bane). But today's weather seemed decent and I've had this outdoor photoshoot idea cooking in my brain for a while, so I threw two dolls into the carrier and walked about 1 km to location. A golden wattle tree had branches drooping down to doll height, and I got a bunch of lovely pics. I'm glad I seized the day :chibi

    58. The weather's been... thunderstorms for the past two days, so I've been watching shows with Mina and had her sit around while making layouts for a comic. It was so cozy. She came home in May this year, so I cannot wait for her first cold season after one of the worst, most dangerously torrid summers ever (peaks of 42°C :...(). I'm afraid I didn't enjoy my time with her as much because the heat was so terrible. I can't wait for Halloween and Christmas. I'd love to manage some holiday-themed outfits.

    59. While updating my current dolly family list today, my husband informed me that we had a doll that I thought I've never seen or heard of before. She was gotten during the height of the Pandemic (which is a traumatic blur) so probably the reason why I don't remember her. :aeyepop::XD:Ran into the other room to look at her, saw how beautiful she was, remembered vaguely that yes indeed we got her some time ago, and did a little happy dance while laughing at the absurdity of it all. It's like getting a new doll all over again even though she's been sitting there all along. Bwahaha.:dance

Now debating which doll will sit next to me while I eat dinner and watch tv to try making memories that they exist in my life.:XD::sweat
