Pipos Anthro discussion part 2

Apr 1, 2015

    1. ^Sales begin starting JAn 8. He probably shows up as sold out until the order period opens.

I don't know what direction pipos is going to. Baha, Bao and Heero are the best sculpts they ever offered. They are old sculpts I guess.

    2. I was thinking that same thing except it's already Jan 8 there. I just looked again and they are no longer "sold out". Phew! I wish they would use a different label.. I hope they stay available for the whole selling period they layed out.

I don't know eitherโ€ฆ I've been loving all their new large dolls, but I haven't liked any of their new smaller ones.. makes me wonder.

    3. Oh whoops. You're right it is Rooney. For some reason, I got them mixed up. >.> Rooney was the one I wanted. Geh.

Anyway, I know a lot of those sculpts have special places in people's hearts, but personally, the only one I'll really miss is Rosie. It's one of the few cat sculpts I like and I was hoping they'd release her eventually in more interesting colors. :(

    4. Ditto, I'm really considering getting another Rosie now, I always thought I'd have a chance to get a special color version or one of their gorgeous fullsets. Seems like she and Llyod are not that old at all. And then ending the classic sculpts, too! I get that Pipos is a small shop and can't have a huge range of molds to manage, but I'm still sad to see them go.
Well, now I have an excuse to get an Isabelle head to play around with...

    5. I'm hoping they'll come out with some stuff that's interesting enough to keep people buying even after their earliest sculpts are retired. Though.... I do wonder if they're being permanently retired or if they could make comebacks as a Manager's Choice doll someday? .....I think I'll ask.

    6. Yeah, I was pretty close to getting Rosieโ€ฆ I've been debating it for months. However, if I have to choose between getting Mac and getting Rosie (and I am going to struggle to find funds just for one), it has to be Mac. He never goes up for sale on the second market.

I hope they do another dog sculptโ€ฆ I am such a lover of white skin, but I love the photos of the the old grey skin Mac with the white nose. He's probably my favorite. I wish I could have both! XDD

    7. Oh. I have a quick question. At a meet this past friday, I got to see a Happy Line Loa in person (As well Jr. Pi Robin on a Happy Line body, which looked super fantastic.) and came to the unfortunate conclusion that Happy Line heads are simply too big for the bodies they were designed for. So my question is, can a Happy Line head fit on a Pi or Cheshire Pop body?

    8. It's sad to hear that it will be the last time to purchase these cuties. By the way, has somebody checked if these are just the specific molds that will go 'bye bye' or the whole line? I hope it's not because I'm still waiting for them to re-release Cube :(

    9. Well, Luna and Lloyd basic aren't marked as 'bye bye', and the Cheshire Pop, regular/Star Cheshires, and such are all on Pi/Pi-sized bodies and aren't being retired, so I'm assuming it's just those sculpts and not the lines entirely.

I also got a response from Pipos about whether the sculpts that are being retired could ever make a return as Manager's Choice dolls. The answer, unfortunately, was no. They said that this is truly the last chance to purchase the sculpts that are marked as 'Bye Bye' sculpts, and that if they did return as Manager's Choice dolls, it would be a new/modified sculpt, not the old one. :(

If only I could afford a Rosie at the moment...

    10. Thanks for the response :).
I feel bad for the others who wanted the to-be-retired sculpts. Mac has been out of the market for such quite a long time (If I remember correctly, a couple has been released as detectives but in limited time period) and now he'll be discontinued. Roggie, on the other hand, had been had been available for more or less 2 years now and quite new compared to others. I think Roggie did not sell well but that is just a guess.

    11. Oh Roggie. :( I basically have a choice between a Roggie and another OT doll from another company that I'll never have the chance to get again.

So this is hard (and a little bit sad). The froggie or... :(

    12. Well, last I remember, Denver Doll has Roggies in stock, so you may still be able to get one a little later on down the road. (You'll also have the option of a 4 month long layaway with them...) Personally, I'd go for whatever the other one is and grab a Roggie off of DDE once you can afford it.

    13. I'm incredibly sad that these guys are going. It's like a part of the hobby is dying. These have been around for so long - well, Baha, Heero and Bao, that their being permanently retired feels as devastating as when Fairyland and Luts split, ending the CP Delf dolls. The only happy part here is that I do have a Baha. And now I have the opportunity to re-get a Mac. I too wonder where they are heading with their product line. I know companies have to change to stay relevant, but it's sad.

Iris and Apple are showing off their balancing skills.... or lack thereof. XD

    15. Such a cute pair!

    16. That's as adorable as can be!:)

    17. Iris and Apple are adorable! :D

    18. Thank you! I adore them. :D

I find that more pictures happen now that Iris isn't the lone mouse in my collection. I think I can count the pictures of her (that I personally have taken) from the two years before I got Apple and Hannah (My DZ Lily) on one hand.

    19. O my i just got the chocolat Ringo/ Jelly set. Feel a bit bad about the two seconde between seeing them and hitting the buy button.

I so love the chocolat Ringo. I would have prefered Jelly in NS, but one cannot have everything

    20. @Mizukichama - I can understand that. Having more than one is actually more fun! I hope you continue to share pics of your adorable duo with us. :)

Congrats, cyberspacegirl! Hitting that buy button can be scary. :ablink: But boy it feels good to do it!

    21. Thanks pepperonipizza

    22. Ooh man, I tell you, I was writing up my wishlist of BJD's, and I went on PIPOS website by chance to see the 'Bye-bye' event. Now, Macs have been a grail doll of mine for years, but I've always missed the events they were on, and seeing this is the last chance to buy one from the company, and you can get them in the newer colours; I had to order myself a Mint Mac. Part of me wants a pink one too, but my wallet has taken a big enough blow for now.

I'm surprised PIPOS are discontinuing Bao and Baha's though, I thought they were one of the more well known and popular sculpts?
Oh well, hopefully this means that they are going to be bringing out new cuties for us to enjoy.

    23. @Polkavata I did the exact same thing! I was updating my wishlist, as I haven't updated it in years. I've always wanted a Baha and a Bao, I nearly went in to a panic when I saw they are both on the list. It was really hard to pick just one, especially since I can afford both of them (I just really shouldn't). It's really sad that they are discontinuing Mac. There are a ton of cat dolls on the market but only a few dogs, and IMO Mac is the only one that's really cute.

    24. whelp, decided to take a risk and not order Mac... I am hoping they will be coming out with a new dog design I like better T_T

    25. @Drensik Ah I know, the willpower this hobby tests. Which one did you pick in the end? And you're right, Macs are definitely one of the cuter dog BJD's out there, I don't know why there isn't more of them considering how many cat models we have.

@Bears Yeah that was one thing I was thinking too, perhaps they do have a new fox or dog sculpt lined up for us?

    26. I was all set to order a Mac before he was gone for good, but then this guy came up for sale. It's kind of miraculous - I used to own him, and was able to buy him back! I missed him so badly when I had to sell him almost a couple of years ago. He even has the face up I gave him still! While I am still sad I missed out on Mac, I couldn't pass up getting Jelly Bean back. Here's my grey Rooney:

It's a bad pic, but I had to post it. :D Next step is getting him some clothes! I bought some easter print fabric that will work really well for him. XD

    27. pepperonipizza, oh my...what a cutie he is! No wonder you couldn't resist. And the fact that he is the same one you had to let go of once-upon-a-time makes him all the more dear. I know because the exact same thing once happened to me...for a full doll and a doll head. My collection was in flux at the time and I made the decision to let them go...and then deeply regretted it immediately thereafter. But after a couple of years, they both came up in the marketplace within months of each other with my original faceups still intact, and I jumped at the chance to bring them back home. So I know how much getting this boy back means to you. Congratulations on your reunion!:)

    28. Awwww! What a wonderful tale you guys! So nice to find The One and be able to get them back. Nice! And what a cutie!

    29. @pepperonipizza Congrats on getting your doll back! Rooney's super adorable. :whee:

    30. Oh yes what a grand stroke of luck, and he is a real cutie to boot, no wonder you missed him. His face up is really sweet, that little nose is adorable.

    31. The Bye Bye sale caused my money to go bye bye.:?

    32. @PoeticSoul - That's so wonderful you had the same experience! Getting back a beloved doll is so wonderful!

Thank you guys so much for your comments on Jelly Bean. I hope I can post some proper pics of him soon!

    33. Just wanted to jump in and say hello. :) My first bjd arrived yesterday and like any new mommy I can barely let him out of my site. Today we went to my brother's house and Valentine just couldn't resist checking out the Tardis cookie jar and I had to snap a pic of him with my crappy camera.

    34. Oh my gosh he looks so cute! I love the bib and ribbon he has on and oh my goodness the socks! He looks all prepped to go on an adventure with the Doctor.

    35. Aw, Valentine is adorable! <3

    36. Thanks so much! I'm loving having him around, he's just got such a happy vibe that I know can't just be the grin. xD Can't wait for a bit nicer weather to hit us here so I can take him out and get some good pics of him in natural lighting. And maybe get my sister to bring her Pipos Ringo out to play too.

    37. So I was cleaning my camera lens and thought, "Oh! I should change how they're posed and take some pictures!"

Since the desk seems to have become their more or less permanent display zone, maybe I should invest in/make more furniture to make it more homey...

    38. They are all so pretty! Think the little one is my favorite of the three. I have two many OT dolls on the same shelf that Valentine hangs out on to do much of a "home" for him atm so I'm trying to avoid too many accessories right now, but I'd love to see what you decorate their area with.

    39. Oh yes indeed! Your little ones are so adorable...homey decorations would be a wonderful addition and we'd all love to see that.:)

    40. Hopefully the weather will improve for everyone, more photo opportunities that way. Your three little mice must look so cute on your desk, like little helpers...Or distractions. You should get them a couch to share!
I always admire how people display their dolls, I'm still too wary to leave mine out of her box when i'm not playing with her.

    41. Pepperonipizza Congrats getting little bunny back to you! Can't wait to see the clothes, sounds so adorable.
Hamadryad May I ask what did you order?
      TwistedRiver
Congrats getting your first BJD. What a great choice for first doll and Valentine looks cute with that fluffy tail!
Mizukichama Furniture would be a really nice finishing touch, it would be so cool.

Well finally Cheshire family is all here:
So I finally bought the mom, Star cheshire in cherry blossom, from marketplace. Now I wish I had sometime to play with them...
Btw Pi -sized can wear dresses made for 8" Ginny dolls.

    42. Oh my gosh, they are so cute! I haven't seen a bigger cheshire in pink before.

    43. Hello there! My name is Cindy, short for Cinderella (named by the two-year-old human in the house!).

    44. Yay! A Pang! So adorable!

    45. Awww Cindy is adorable! I want to get a Pang someday, I think they've got some of the sweetest faces.

      • x 1
    46. Pepperonipizza Congrats on getting your boy back! I just love his face up!! I can see the temptation. I would have been tempted too!

I am really really hoping that they will release a redesign of Mac or another dog doll, so maybe you'll get another chance some day!

Do you guys keep your dolls out on display or do you keep them in boxes until needed? I just have two of my Pipos on display, but I wonder how many I keep out (should I get more small ones) before they start to look cluttered.

    47. My Pipos tinies have a tendency to fall over off the doll shelf, so they all nestle together in a drawer with their cheese pieces.

    48. Polkavata Thank you!
elizabeth's*whimsies Cindy has really nice dress! Just so cute!
Bears Few of them is in the box and other is in closet. So not really on display.

    49. Cindy is such a cute name for her, I'm loving the dress too.
I tend to keep Matilda in her box when I'm not playing with her, I can see my cat knocking her over all too easily, but maybe with my incoming Mac I'll be able to sit him out higher up?

    50. My Curo boy, BonBon, sits on a sofa in a diorama with my MSD-sized bunny girl (Dearmine Saera). He's her companion and assistant. That boy never sees the inside of a box!;)

    51. Thanks everyone for the congrats on Jell Bean. :D

@elizabeth's*whimsies - thanks for sharing your Pang! I was really looking forward to seeing owner pics of this doll!

My dolls are presently stored in containers. Keeps the cats off of them. (I am always amazed to hear stories of cats that stay off of things. My cats see everything as an invitation to lay down on them or get involved somehow.) I miss seeing them out when they are tucked away, but I can at least rest assured they are safe.

    52. My dolls are on display; my anthros (Pipos and Luts kitties) have their own shelf, sitting on some furniture I found on Ebay and a chair that was a cell phone holder from Pier 1. I do have to rotate some of the larger dolls (both BJDs and fashion), due to limited display space, but my kitties are always out.

    53. My dolls (18+) are all out, sitting on shelves. They look a little cramped, I think I need another shelf :sweat

I wanted to share the tiny waistcoat I made for my Baha ^_^
      [IMG]
Also, in searching for clothes I found a site with a few patterns for Pi sized dolls. Patterns for doll clothes They are all the way down at the bottom, just click on the pictures. I might actually be able to make some pants for my guy before he gets here!

    54. Thanks for the link to Pi patterns!

    55. Ooh thanks for the link Drensik! It will work for many of my dolly sewing projects!

    56. Oh wow it's coming along great, you'll have to share pics of your Baha wearing it. Thank you for the links those will be very helpful.

    57. Oooh, @Drensik that looks so pretty! I'd love to see it on your doll! :)

    58. Thanks for the nice comments on my Pang, sorry about the delay in responding (time gets away from me sometimes!). I'll be sure to share more photos as I make her some new clothes. :)

Drensik, that is a very nice waistcoat! Great crocheting! :)

My own input on the box vs. display: mine are in their boxes on an easily accessible bookshelf, where I can take them out anytime and look at them but they are safe from dust, too much sunlight and marauding felines and small children! My Baha, from the first edition of them when they first came out, has experienced some yellowing, even though she is not displayed, but I think that's pretty normal for white resin.

    59. Yeah I've heard resin will yellow with age even if you do keep them away from sunlight (Although direct sunlight speeds it up)

I've noticed there doesn't seem to be a waiting list for Pipos dolls in the waiting room thread? (Perhaps I missed it) But apparently my Mac has been checked by customs now they just need to shift their butts and mail me the fee letter so I can it.
      So close, yet so far.
Also I thought Pipos were meant to email you the EMS tracking number when your package shipped? I only found out mine was on its way by checking my purchase on the website.

    60. I don't get emails from most Korean companies for some reason, so I had to check mine through the website too.

And yeah, resin will generally yellow at least slightly with time. Some companies have more stable, yellowing-resistant resin than others, and depending on the resin color, "yellowing" will affect the tone of the resin differently. My cheese mouse, Iris, is ever so slightly less pinkish than Apple, my mini cheese mouse, but she is in no way even remotely yellow. Just purple. She's never really been out in the sun either, but she has been subjected to weak sunlight from a north-facing window, which really doesn't affect resin color much if my Luts dolls are anything to go by. (They may not be. I have dolls/doll parts from them made in four different years in the same skin color, and they're all basically the exact same color. My 2012 is ever so slightly more yellow than my 2015, but you have to REALLY look hard, and if you've got all four lined up, you can't tell the difference at all.)

Also, on the box-vs-display conversation.... My dolls are never in their boxes ever. I collect figures and statues as well, and I guess because of that, I feel like if they're not on display or at least somewhere that I can see them, why the hell did I even buy them? There are a lot of people who don't understand that feeling, but for me, display is part of the enjoyment of collecting, so my dolls will never be in boxes unless I'm moving or something like that.

Anyway, my KDF Lolly, Rosalva, has stolen the precious baby mouse, and now Iris and Hannah are nipping at her giant legs trying to get Apple back.
