I just recently finished a trial run of Adhara's winged kimono. You see, she's essentially part-bird and part-dragon. I had long intended for her to have a robe that has wings on the sleeves, but was that even possible? 01 - Wing Kimono by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr 02 - Wing Kimono by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr 03 - Wing Kimono by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr ...and it was! Now I just have to refine my workflow (who knows, I may even be able to make a tutorial out of it). I would have taken better pictures, but it doesn't seem like a good day for overly organized photoshoots. Adhara's solo shots weren't coming out as I would have liked. Maybe if I put Guórén in with her? 04 - Interruption by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr ...eh? I usually fight with Guórén when I had to pose him and Adhara's previous incarnation together, but he jives with her a lot better now. Too good sometimes, and I couldn't resist more shots (at least the layering of the feathers show up better now). 05 - Just A Little Longer by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr 06 - No Letting Go by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr I eventually gave up trying to get good shots of her kimono (will just try again soon), and instead just plunked them together on an under-stuffed SD-size beanbag. Their animal companions hardly get photographed because they're off-topic, but here's a rare opportunity. 08 - Chilling by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr 09 - Hey by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr 10 - Critters are Watching by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr 11 - Nuzzle by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr 13 - Sweet of You by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr Thank you for looking!
I love seeing photos of these two. Congratulations on completing the test kimono, it came out gorgeous!
I really like the concept for the sleeves. ^_^ So this is a practice one? Good luck on the finished product!
The costume is like something out of a Le Guin story. Lovely and earthy and fantastical at the same time.
Style your girl is simply mesmerizing. I like the way you combined this makeup and long black hair. I think this combination is perfect. Even without detailed photos it is visible that kimono is sewed very qualitatively. Your work paid for itself, everything looks amazing.
@animemom and @manaphyyy Awwww thank you! I certainly have an easier time taking photos of the two of them now that they aren't headbutting each other. XD @Sianserais Yes, this is just a practice kimono. ^_^ I wouldn't want to try it on my more expensive fabrics until I've seen that it could be done. The kimono length actually came out a few cm too short, so that's definitely an aspect to improve later on. @heejo210 Thank you very much! (And I also love Neko Atsume -- looking at your avatar.) @A Wee Tiefling I've only read The Tombs of Atuan, but I can see where you're coming from. I should read more of Le Guin, I've had many of her books on my to-read list for some time now. @LenaLilo Thank you! I'd post again when I have better pictures of the rear and side. If the feathers are spread out properly, there's no mistaking that they're wings.
