Pear Shaped Trend....how do you feel?

Dec 21, 2011

    1. I'm quite a fan of pear shaped dolls. Kinda feel a kinship with them as I'm rather hippy myself, lol. That and the general aesthetic is just pleasing to me, like little teardrops.

    2. I love them! And I love small bust dolls too. (: I don't know why I just love that aesthetic too.

    3. I think they're actually very cute.

    4. i think they're cute. I really like Leekworld Ariana:D

    5. I LOVE them I actively seek out pear shaped dolls! There are less exaggerated ones like Dollzone bodies but I also love Leekeworlds art bodies too. Maybe it's because it's not the "norm" as far as dolls go, and that mainstream media goes crazy over hourglass it's nice to see another body shape being seen as beautiful and celebrated (this is coming from a slim hourglass by the way).

    6. I like the doll chateau ones a lot, they have a very interesting stylisation on the whole and those hips just fit it perfectly... for the others not so much, but I like that there is variety so all the people in the hobby can find their perfect doll.

    7. I am all for getting dolls with different body shapes! I think that is always excellent!
And I find pear-shaped bodies pretty darn attractive, just in general. So for me, its a win-win!

    8. I've always loved big hips (especially on males), so I love pear shaped dolls. I wish more companies would do pear shaped male bodies though. I know it's not realistic, but let's face it, neither are some of the crazy hips they give the female dolls, haha.

    9. I think pear-shaped dolls are quite adorable! I would love to have one just to make clothing that size! I wouldn't mind owning one someday. <3

    10. I thought that I would never like that style. I am not really a fan of it. But I do have one exception, and that's DC Lilith.

    11. LOVE it! I have a Leekeworld art body doll, a DC Barbara and a Lillycat Lyse on the way! All ladies are pear shaped :D

    12. I think it's really adorable! Dust of dolls body is my favorite of the pear shaped I've seen. I also tend to like small bust for my dolls.

    13. I love the pear-shaped dolls and own three Leekeworld - 2 type A and 1 type B and I would love to own a Lilycat (France). I like to see artsy and different dolls it gives outlets for creativity.

    14. I am not wild about that look at least so far as my dolls tend to be pretty realistic looking. I like my dolls to have better figures than I do. LOL

    15. It just doesn't make any sense on dolls that have the faces of pre-pubertal girls.

    16. For me it depends on the doll. I like that there are diverse body shapes available, and I like the pear shape on some of the dolls that still have more or less realistic human proportions. The super stylized dolls are not for me, though - I just don't really care for that aesthetic. It also doesn't appeal to me on dolls with childlike faces because to me it is a more mature-looking body type.

    17. I find when im drawing cartoons I enjoy making the hips really wide and the chest really small, so im all about these new dolls. I think if someone was going for a more realistic look it obviously won't help with that but it does add to more characterization contour wise

    18. They're kinda pretty, but I don't like how small breasted they are. I'm not asking for huge breasts, but larger, more balanced.

    19. I absolutely welcome the diversity that they bring... and can't wait to see my DC Isabel in real life.

    20. They do not appeal to me at all.

    21. I find them to be really unique and adorable. However, I don't think I would buy one for myself.

    22. I love the Dust of dolls and Leekeworld Artbody. They are so cute.

    23. My friend has a Mikhala; I call her bubble-butt.

My tastes run towards much skinnier dolls, when going for the artistic aspect. I prefer the long, lanky limbs of some Doll Chateau's other offerings. I'd love to have one of their larger dolls, but for now my two Adas and Russell satisfy my need for dolls I can mod the ever-loving crap out of.

    24. I really like them! Its nice to see curvier dolls, and I find the pear shape very graceful, especially Doll Chateau's bodies

    25. Being a pear shaped lady myself I personally love them. I don't have one yet, but I totally plan on getting one. It just makes me feel included somehow, I'm sure that seems silly, but my body type is very rarely represented in *anything*, so to have a doll be shaped similar to me, is just totally awesome.

    26. What of Leekeworld Chloe?

I love that look for those dolls, I'm so happy that it's out there because they look like me :3
I'm 4'11 have a 30 bust a 26 waist and very large large hips. I just love the representation that comes from it :)

    27. I really like them because they're close to my body shape - small bust, big booty, nipped in waist. I don't think I'd get one myself because making clothes for them would be a pain but I love seeing them.

    28. Dollzone has a few pear shaped, though most of them are fairly proportionate. I have one msd girl from a couple years ago and I love the body. I personally wouldn't want all of my dolls to be the same shape anyways.

    29. Totally agree. Love those "fat bottomed girls!" Being on the fluffy side myself, I totally dig it. The more the merrier!

    30. I think it's adorable! I like how the bodies are starting to look more...realistic. Slim, modelesque bodies in everyday life aren't the norm. Everyone has different shaped bodies. But, this is also why I like Doll Chateau bodies too soooooo :)

    31. They hit close to home. I love them. I have a tiny bust, wear a small or xsmall, flat stomach and a pinched waist and a large, size 10 hips with a huge booty... yet my calves are small too. I want a Leekeworld Rachel so bad, she reminds me of myself. Especially how from the front she has definition, but not from the side as much. I love it!

    32. I prefer a mild, more realistic pear shape for my dolls (and artwork) most of the time, but the exaggerated 'I'm a juicy pear' style can be really nice too! A really fascinating thing about bjds is how many unusual body styles are around. I think it's a great way to get ideas for different cartoony art styles. I find Leeke World dolls in particular to be really inspiring...though that's also because I love the flowery way they're dressed up!

And of course, it's nice to see my body type represented- now if only clothes designers would get the message too! I have a constant war with dresses- no, my waist does not pinch in there, that just hurts, stop bunching up you're looking weird you dumb dress... I always try to do the empire-waist thing, since that's pretty much the only place my torso does pinch in, but they're harder to find!

    33. I think it's cool to see variety in body type/shape across the hobby, so I definitely don't have a problem with pear shaped dolls! I agree with some earlier comments though, that Leekeworld Mikhaila's body looks very cute in dresses, but a little strange in pants. I personally think it's because of how her thighs look in relation to the hipcup pieces.

    34. I personally don't see the appeal of them. But that's just me.

    35. I feel like the pear-shaped thing is just becoming a larger trend in aesthetics among other groups as well. Might be a subset of the whole booty revival thing going on, but most of these pear-shaped dolls are flat-butts x'D maybe better for sitting, I suppose. Where dem bootylicious pears at?! But really, I'm not OBSESSED with the aesthetic-- I prefer hourglasses, as in broad shoulders AND broad hips :XD:-- But I think I prefer it to the reverse shape, huge chest and small hips (lots of ABJDs in the past, from what I've glanced at).

What really bothers me about it, though, is that SO MANY of these pear-shaped dolls have a considerable thigh-gap. Go ahead and google pear-shaped bodies.. I have not found ONE that has a girl whose thighs are NOT touching. So why are ALL of these pear-shaped girls having a moderate to severe thigh gap?? Normally, I wouldn't care so much about thigh gaps, but perusing the internet taught me that a lot of girls are super obsessed with the concept of it, and it can be a really unrealistic expectation for girls of different bodytypes. For instance, my sister and I both wear the same size jeans. However, I have wider hips than her, so my thigh-chafing is minor, and hers is maaajor. She usually gets tears between the thighs, and has to go buy jeans a LOT more frequently than I. There are times when she was upset and super self-conscious about it, and I know that even if she lost weight, she would still not have a thigh-gap. Having a juicy pearshape with a large thighgap is a very improbable fantasy, so I don't really like how it's on practically all these pear-shaped BJDs. I see generic-proportioned BJDs having touching thighs, so why not the pears????

    36. I kinda like it tbh, but it depends on the doll. I love the look on the Doll Chateau dolls because they're already so fantastic in their limbs, that it just makes a real nice and different doll. I don't fancy it in more realistic looking dolls, where the pears shape is overly severe, but when the sculptor has found that perfect balance in making the shape work, I think it's great. I love that sculptors are starting to show more diversity in their designs. So bring on the bums! :D

    37. I usually love the look. It's very cute in my opinion. I would love to own one at some point but I'm having trouble finding a head sculpt I like that had that body.

    38. I really like the concept, and I tend to draw pear-shaped bodies, like the doll chateau-like ones. They're plain beautiful in my opinion.

    39. I absolutely LOOOOVE pear shaped bodies. its even reflected in a lot of my artwork so I'm a huge fan of most sculpts in that sort of style.

    40. I think the pear shape is the cutest thing ever! I think its nice to see more diverse forms in doll bodies :love

    41. I'm really fond of them! They tend to stand out more to me, when I see one. So few things reflect big hips as a positive feature, so its nice to see some representation, even if it is exaggerated.

    42. Let a hundred flowers bloom! ...and let's see DOD try to sue them all.

    43. I actually like the pear-shaped body type, and I like most dolls that posses it, even if it's really over the top. Like Leekeworld's art body, I find it really pretty, but maybe it's still a bit too much for me to actually want to own. I'd like a more realistic pear-shaped doll though!

    44. I think they are cute on fantasy figures, or kids, etc.
      Not my style, but cute.
I have more of an issue with some of the extremely thin dolls that I have seen in the bjd world.

    45. I love them! I think pear shaped bodies are so cute! I'd love a leekeworld art body but I have no idea what head I'd put on it

    46. I actually really like the pear shape. Especially doll chateau's bigger doll bodies, I don't really like many of their doll heads but their pear bodies are pretty cool. I wouldn't get more than one doll with that type of body but they are at least something different. For me the best ones are the ones that are subtle though, like some of dollzone's girl bodies has that slight curve.

    47. I adore pear shaped bodies, that's how I draw most of my characters too so it makes bring a character to life easier. I've found though that the doll chateau body is a bit too much for me, I like my pears more compact and short like lilycats, my doll chateau feels like she got stretched out. I think I like the sturdiness

    48. I love them. The Leekeworld Nicole on the art body was the first bjd I saw that I wanted to buy, and it was her little chub thighs and that little face that sold me. I'd like all my dolls to have different bodies, though it seems there's only four kinds at the moment. And, I like having at least one doll with my body type!

    49. They scare me. Not the Iple ladies, but the exaggerated ones, like the Doll Chateaus. The only thing scarier than eerie twiggy things are eerie twiggy things with pear shaped hips :o

    50. I hate the overly exaggerated pear shaped bodies... They just are very unappealing to me when unclothed. It reminds me of how wide my hips are-- I don't want to subject a doll to that.

    51. I find pear shaped dolls cute! I like the way of "over sculpting" I mean like playing with the body shapes. I think dolls don't need to be that realistic. :3nodding: (though I don't find overly thin dolls good looking, my opinions are so mixed :abambi:)

    52. I really like them on fantasy dolls, but some of the more realistic ones can go into the uncanny valley. Like I love how the Leek World art body looks clothed and how thick the legs are, but the transition from chest to hips seems really odd to me. The DC dolls are just delightfully over the top though, like someone's interpretation of a dark fantasy fae.
I think bunny anthro sculpts pull it off the best though, like lilycat's loo dolls. The exaggeration plays off well with the idea of a bunny's powerful hind legs for jumping.

    53. Personally, I like it. I happen to have a pear shaped body myself. Haha! I like hips. But I can see how it's not liked. I would imagine that it makes it difficult to find clothes to fit that particular shape.

    54. When I first saw them (first one I saw was the Leeke art body) I totally loved the idea. But honestly I've been seeing so many crop up that it has really bored me. At first it was like, oh it's unique and interesting! But now it doesn't seem unique anymore, it's common.
And like some others have said, when I think pear-shaped, I'm not meaning a realistic pear-shape - I mean a very exaggerated shape where the hip-to-waist ratio is physically impossible.

    55. I do not care for the exaggerated pear shape. I prefer very, very realistic dolls.

    56. Personally, I'm not a fan of the pear-shape trend. I can see why a lot of doll collectors like the cutesy look, but I can't see my characters having a body that shape as I go for a realistic look.

    57. Im not a huge fan of them but their faces are beautiful. I guess the artists wanted to create something unique for the people in this hobby. Sure they are beautiful but i dont think im adding any of them in my collection.

    58. It really depends, i nmy opinion. I like them on doll chateau, but for example, I am not really fan of leeke mikhaila. But I am not sure if it's just because the body, or is it because her face is not generally my cup of tea. It also depends how much "peary" it is. For example Cerisedolls - they all are pear shaped, with very slim chests and wide hips, and I like most of them, but cartoon body is just too much for me. But I don't hate them or something like that - every doll can be beautiful, when her/his owner cares about them and their look. :)

    59. I think pear shaped bodies are neat and really cute! But I'm not a fan of really exaggerated ones like Leeke Art bodies and especially when the character is supposed to be human. I really like Doll Chateau's and Doll Zone's bodies though. I don't know why, but small chested girl dolls are my cup of tea. Maybe it's because I can relate?

    60. I personally don't find it attractive and feel that it takes away from the doll in most cases I have seen.
