I am wondering where all the crafty people get their patterns or do they draft their own? I want to make Oscar a sleeping beauty inspired dress and trying to puzzle out if its easier if I just draft my own or not.... Any tips would be fantastic (I've gone on Etsy already so I know most of those sellers) Size is for 1/3 - also any general historical fantasy patterns would be fantastic. Thank you!
I take it by Sleeping Beauty you mean Aurora, correct? If so I’d recommend this pattern as a jumping off point, if you plan on using a woven fabric you might want to try to use a different pattern as this one was designed for knits.
I draft my own, as well as adapting from bought patterns (why reinvent the wheel, right?) Anyhow, I like - Adams Harris Patterns : SD Doll Clothes Patterns - Gracefaerie Patterns: gracefaerie designs: Patterns Index - Designs by Jude: Designs by Jude featuring Fletcher Pattern Company Teddy
We have a Medieval & Renaissance Historic thread around here somewhere but the trouble there is that it's Rectangular Construction- very little is faster there than drafting your own. If you look that method up you'll see what I mean about it. It is, however, a fantastic way to start learning patterning because at first you just have rectangles and triangles to cope with and you can make medieval gowns and all sorts of things. Here's a thread for super easy outfits to start with that you can draft to fit your own doll of any size, and here's that Medieval Ren Historic thread with its patterns!
