Resolved Paging Hayate-San - RESOLVED VIA PAYPAL

Jan 14, 2022

    1. Hi. I need to get in touch with Hayate-San from whom I bought a doll back in December, several days before Christmas. I got notification from PayPal last Friday that the package was finally shipped, but the tracking still shows only "number provided, no receipt by the post office". I sent 2 messages to the seller this week, but so far no response. I'm concerned.

    2. Adding to this. I also purchased a doll from Hayate-san. We talked about the doll being shipped the first week of January but that didn't happen; I've not been provided a tracking number. The last I heard they were searching for a box for mailing. I see they're active on both Twitter and IG so I assume DoA just became an afterthought. I won't disclose personal information but I know they were going through some things at the end of December so they did tell me there would be a delay (hence the first week of January). But that someone else is having trouble reaching them is a bit concerning. I hope they're okay.

    3. I will also state, I reached out to Hayate-san on Twitter too to let them know at least two buyers are trying to reach them and about this paging thread. I have no heard back as of the time of writing this.

    4. In the interest of public communication, Hayate-san has been active on Twitter and IG posting on 1/14 after my attempt to DM them on Twitter. As of this time, there still has not been a response. This isn't meant to be negative, just in the interest of there being a public record of communication.

    5. Thank you for the info!

    6. Posting full timeline of events for record keeping as I think that's what DoA wants you to do if I re-read the policies page correctly:

12/18/21: Contacted Hayate-san. We agreed to a purchase price on their Ringdoll Morin (/threads/550-free-us-ship-โ€“-ringdoll-morin-fullset-full-doll-normal.846835/). Seller did disclose there would be a personal event happening delaying shipping to the first week of January. I stated this was fine.

12/21/21: Day after the personal event, seller said everything went smoothly and we were still on track for the agreed upon shipping timeframe once I sent payment. They did state they did not yet have a shipping box.

12/22/21: Seller sent me an invoice.

12/23/21: Payment sent in full via PayPal for the agreed upon price and shipping price for Priority Mail.

User disappeared entirely from DoA but was active daily on both Instagram and Twitter.

1/11/22: I reached out on DoA.

1/13/22: I reached out again to seller on DoA to make sure everything is okay. User is still daily posting on Twitter and IG at this point in time.

1/14/22: Another user started this paging thread having had radio silence on their purchase. I commented on the paging thread and reached out to the seller on Twitter twice to check in on them and to inform them about this paging thread.

1/15/22: Seller has been active on both Twitter and IG after my attempt to DM them but my DM has not been replied to Twitter nor DoA. Another DM has been sent on DoA to seller alerting them to the paging thread and letting them know I've tried to contact them via Twitter.

    7. Here's my account of the events concerning my purchase from Hayate-san:

12/22/21 I reached out to her about purchasing a doll. We agreed on the price and I paid the same day. The seller asked if it's ok to ship the doll the week between Christmas and New Years, and I said sure it's fine.

1/3/22 After hearing nothing on the week the doll was promised to ship, I messaged the seller and asked if everything was ok and if they had a good holiday. Heard later same day that they couldn't ship the doll because of business at work, but promised to ship that Friday. I didn't hear anything on Friday, but checked my PayPal and there was a notice from Paypal that tracking was provided. So I assumed everything was fine. Another week passed and there was no movement on the tracking. It stated that the post office never received the package.

1/11/22 and 1/12/22 I sent 2 messages to the seller asking if the doll had shipped. I also said that if she is unable to ship for some reason by the end of this week, I understand and want a refund. Haven't heard anything since.

I started this thread here on 1/14/22 . I plan to open PayPal claim this weekend.

    8. As of 1/15 seller is still active on Twitter. I have sent a follow up DM on Instagram in case the Twitter messages aren't getting through for some reason. I've let the seller know two of us are trying to reach her to get this worked out and about the paging thread so she can hopefully follow up here before things escalate at all. Still hoping the seller is okay and this just a mixup in communication!

    9. 1/15 mid afternoon. Message received from seller on IG. I don't want to post off site conversations here in case information is too personal. However, they did reply to the IG DM and stated they haven't gotten DoA or Twitter notifications. They stated they do intend to follow up here and I encouraged them to follow up on this thread as well for public documentation so there's no trouble with the mods.

    10. I just sent message to the seller via PayPal and requested refund.

    11. 1/15/22 evening: The seller is active again on Twitter but still has failed to follow up via any communication channels promised. I have reached out again to politely ask if she can update us.

1/16/22 Despite the seller saying they would follow up on DoA yesterday, this has not occured. They remain active on Twitter. I really wanted to rehome this doll and welcome him into my collection and I'm heartbroken this has played out this way. As of this time, the seller has made no attempt in follow up beyond the acknowledgement on IG and I feel I have no choice but to bring additional attention to this matter. I have given the seller every opportunity to reply and acknowledge this thread and these unresolved transactions. I have given the seller the benefit of the doubt at every chance I can and I feel my trust is being taken advantage of.

I was really excited about this doll but the radio silence in conjunction with the active social media accounts is upsetting. I can't help but feel this is deliberate. A timeline was given and while I understand life happens, the lack of communication and repeated broken promises is deeply troubling. You gave another buyer and I completely different reasons for why there would be a shipping delay and different time frames. I was told that you would likely be mobility impaired after the life event hence the delay to me. Meanwhile, you told the other buyer that you could ship their item in the same time period you told me that the major life event was occurring that was preventing you from shipping my item. I now have to question if the seller ever intended to actually send the doll. As of right now I am out my money and have no doll. I keep hoping the seller will come through, but I've run out of chances I can give.

My ideal resolution is still painfully optimistic hoping this is a misunderstanding and any second now I'm going to get an active, working tracking number (as is shown by the other buyer, they were given a tracking number but not a working one which is concerning) and that my doll safely arrives with his box and coa. But the seller continues to dodge communication after promising follow up and I have my doubts this is going to occur.

A paypal case has been filed. I'm still giving the seller every chance to actually send the doll and coa.

The mods have access to our PMs, so I won't post them. But I will post the IG and Twitter conversation attempts:

    12. Thank you for all the above information! After sending the seller another message, this time via PayPal, I decided to escalate the case with PayPal. She has been given many opportunities to make this right and hasn't. At this point I want a full refund and no more excuses. It has been over 3 weeks now and I have lost my trust in this seller to follow through on her promises.

    13. Update:
Still no explanation or apologies from the seller, but I just got notification that the package was dropped off at the post office. Hopefully the other buyer above gets some positive news as well.
I will keep this thread open until we both receive our purchases in good condition.
      Thank you.

    14. Still no update for me unfortunately. User is still active on Twitter posting about personal sewing projects. So, they're active and just now refusing to reply to things.

    15. 1/17 I have reached out to the seller yet again via private message on Instagram asking for the tracking number or a refund. Neither have been provided. Seller remains actively posting about her sewing projects on social media. Case is still open on PayPal (but not yet escalated to a claim) in the hopes that @Hayate-San san will do the right thing and either refund my money or send the doll I paid for. I intend to escalate the case to a full claim on PayPal if she continues to ignore my attempts at communication. I will only wait another week without communication before I will have to escalate this. I am giving seller every opportunity to not scam me but so far it does not seem likely that they ever intended to actually send this doll and are waiting for PayPal to force a refund on them. I am beyond upset and devastated about this.

    16. Hello all!

I'm so so sorry for the lack of communication. Between my surgery, the holidays, and work I've been dealing with a lot personally that prevented me from getting the dolls shipped. Like @Livdollcity said I have dropped Williams at the post office and he should be arriving shortly. For @akaisha0 I was looking for a box that was big enough for Morin's to fit in before shipping. He is ready to go and will be dropped off this week (Friday as it's the only time I can get away from work while the post office is open).

I apologize again! I hate that it escalated to this but it's entirely my fault. I'll have tracking for Morin Friday at the latest.

    17. @Hayate-San Thank you! All we've wanted has been communication so I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to give this update.

    18. I'm glad this seems to be working out alright. Thank you for the updates.

    19. Update: item received and as described. This now concludes my transaction.
      Thank you!

    20. There has been no additional communication for my transaction. Just stating this for the record as tomorrow is the deadline the seller themselves gave most recently. Which is significantly more than the 3-5 business days listed in their sales ad. I'm no stranger to taping multiple boxes together to make a sturdy shipping container. The seller also lives in a major mailing hub with many third party postal stores that sell boxes. I'm finding all of this a bit more far fetched every day and I'm starting to sincerely doubt the authenticity of this sales ad.

    21. A tracking number has been provided and a receipt showing enroute to my zip code. Will update further when package arrives.

    22. My doll arrived today and there is a TON of undisclosed damage. First, directly lifting the box lid up the box was torn open:

Removing the lid completely, the doll was haphazardly thrown in the box in a fetal position with a few deflated air packs and a single sheet of bubble wrap over his torso:

Removing the poor packaging out of the way there are a ton of stains that were disclosed and damage to the resin on the butt/thigh joint:

(red staining on fingers, black staining on palm)

      (staining on head and face)

      (damage AND staining on butt/thigh)

This case has been escalated to PayPal. I will no longer be speaking privately to Hayate-san. They may reply via this thread or via the PayPal case. I had so many red flags with this transaction that I'm so angry I kept giving this user the benefit of the doubt. This was apparently a scam from the beginning. Some of this, I could imagine was shipping but the problem is, the seller made no attempt to really secure the doll properly to compensate for that. And there's nothing black or red in the box that could have caused these stains. These existed before the doll was shipped and the seller didn't disclose this information. I paid a reduced rate to the seller to remove the fullset accessories NOT to compensate for undisclosed damage. I paid for what the blank doll costs at the sale price I have now missed from the company because the seller drug out this sale so long.

Proposed resolution: I would accept a partial refund for the damage I now have to try to remove myself and the box damage that completely devalues the resale value of the doll.

      • x 3
    23. Correction to post #22 there is a typo. The damage was NOT disclosed. I have PDFs of the original sales listing in the event the seller tries to edit them.

      • x 1
    24. Seller has offered a $50 refund via PayPal case. This has been declined as the damage and lack of resale value on this doll is beyond $50. She charged $25 for shipping which would mean this refund for the damage would be $25. This is not acceptable to me. The case remains open in PayPal.

      • x 1
    25. Seller has also declined that the damage in transit was her fault. I explained that if the doll and box been properly packaged, the external box damage would not have occurred. I always wrap my boxes carefully in bubble wrap so there is no friction of the box against the shipping box. As she failed to protect the box in any fashion, let alone the poor doll thrown haphazardly in the box, the damage is in fact her fault for not properly protecting the box.

      • x 4
    26. Seller has blocked me on social media despite the fact we never used Twitter to communicate as the seller never replied to any DMs via Twitter. Accessing her page publicly, I can see she blocked me to try to hide the fact she is deliberatly lying on her Twitter page about the nature of the transaction. Claiming that she sent his fullset extras (she did not) and implying the damage was disclosed (it was not. And there's proof in both the sales listing and our PMs on DoA that the price reduction offered was because we were forgoing the extras, she never send those). Seller has acknowledged in these tweets that she knew about the damage prior to shipping the doll and deliberately did not disclose it. Paypal has all our conversations so I trust PayPal will rule fairly on this matter. I feel it's important to post these Tweets as it does show the seller deliberately misrepresented their sales page.

    27. For reference, on the original sales post there are two mentions of condition. No damage and "perfect condition".:

    29. Just for an update, I reached out to hayate-san on IG a final time on 1/25.

The following was discussed on my end:
-I let her know I'm sorry for whatever she is going through
-I restated my position on the discount request and that we clearly were not going to agree on the devaluation amount of the doll (considering Ringdoll currently offers a blank Morin [what I was effectively purchasing] for $449.05 and paying her more than that for a undisclosed damaged doll was what led to my devaluation calculation)
-I had repackaged the doll properly with additional materials for shipping and was willing to send it back for a refund of the doll purchase
-I let her know why the case was escalated to claim with PayPal and that she just happened to reach out to me immediately after the status changed before I had a chance to message her (I know she expressed upset in her tweets I hadn't reached out to her first, and I did explain given our conversation history and PayPal's policy my intention was to provide info to PayPal first and then immediately contact her. I honestly had no idea marking the item as "received but not as described" would auto escalate the case to a claim but as this wasn't yet resolved I couldn't close it)
-I also asked if she wanted a magic sponge to try to clean off the scuffs before attempting to resell (because I won't be altering the condition of the doll, but I do have many magic sponges and I'm happy to send her an extra)
-I also implored her to update her sales listing before attempting to resell to properly list the damage that should have been notated the first time around to avoid any new issues with a new buyer.

Her tweets imply we're in agreement to send the doll back for a full refund but she has yet to respond to my IG DM where I stated that I would be willing to do that. So at this point I'm just waiting to see what PayPal says and act accordingly.

I'm fine if she wants to post screen shots of what I said on IG, the reason I'm not posting it is I think she may be going through some personal things and it's not my place to publish that in any detail that I addressed in our DMs. Hence I'm trying to offer an overview for public documentation.

As of this time Paypal is still reviewing the claim.

    30. PayPal has decided I will receive a full refund upon returning the item. He is packaged up and I will be sending him tomorrow. Tracking number will be given to the seller once it's generated.

    31. He has been properly packaged to avoid damage on his return trip. The tracking number has been submitted via PayPal along with proof of insurance. Waiting for the seller to receive the doll. Estimated arrival date is Tuesday or Wednesday. After posting this the information will be provided directly to seller via IG and DoA PM as well.

    32. Package has been physically handed to USPS carrier. It should update with an estimated delivery date once it reaches the actual office later today.

      • x 1
    33. The tracking on the return is supposed to arrive tomorrow but it's still been stuck since the 29th in "accepted" status. This is highly unusual for mail in my area as I've never had a package not update when it reached the local hub. I've communicated with the seller about this too. USPS won't allow an insurance claim until 15 days after mailing so I'll be closely monitoring the tracking in the meanwhile. I've always reached out to my local post master to check the system in case it's still at the local post.

    34. Package has been marked as delivered by USPS. I have informed the seller via IG as well in case they are at work as the package has been labeled as left on the front porch.

    35. According to IG, seller has seen my DM but has not replied as of right now. I assume they are at work and will be anticipating a follow up tonight. Information about the delivery has also been provided to PayPal.

      • x 1
    36. Seller has reach out to me. They stated the package was routed to their parent's address and not their home address. Unfortunately, this was the address they listed in the PayPal claim which I assume is what's set as their default address which is why PayPal provided it. I've had that same problem before where a package was misrouted to me because a former address was set as my default. I did not double check this with the seller prior to shipping as this was the address PayPal told me to send it to. The documentation including the receipt and label both showing the full address were provided to the seller with the tracking number so the seller could have requested a re-route from USPS had they checked the provided documentation. However, because this wasn't double checked the package is safely in the hands of their parents but their parents live an hour from them and they're not sure when they will be able to claim the package.

      • x 1
    37. I feel this needs to be public record. House numbers and street names are edited out along with names for privacy. But there needs to be accountability showing this. The PayPal case stated the package had to be sent to this specific address. It is the responsibility of all involved parties to keep their PayPal information up to date. If you send a return package to an address that's not the default provided by PayPal, PayPal will decide the package was not properly returned and close the case. Because of this, buyers and sellers HAVE to use the default address to be protected by PayPal's Buyer and Seller Support. And while it would have been good courtesy for me to check with the seller so they could update PayPal accordingly, as far as PayPal is concerned, it's the seller's responsibility to ensure their information is kept up to date. I am a bit upset that the seller accused this of being the "wrong" address on this basis. The seller opened the IG messages with the documented photos before the package was delivered in that 4-day time span according to IG's tracking of DMs via the mobile app. Had they checked this documentation, they could have contacted USPS to re-route the package to their new address. However, they did not do this.

The seller is fully aware based on conversations and previous public Tweets they made about me that I intend to repurchase this doll directly from Ringdoll. Seller seems to be tying up the funds and delaying this refund to make it harder for this purchase to be made during Ringdoll's Chinese New Year Sale which would actually make the brand new blank body on par with what I paid for the damaged doll from them. They are aware I'm trying to repurchase during the Chinese New Year Sale as I mentioned that several times in our conversations when we were discussing the devaluation amount of the damaged doll they sent vs the doll's current cost blank as well as my initial offer when I first purchased the doll. I believe the seller's not updating their address was an accidental oversight and not an intentional ploy. However, this promise of a refund that hasn't been sent yet is distressing. While my sympathies do go out to the seller for this frustrating oversight, I have done my part of this deal correctly at every step.

Documentation has been submitted to PayPal as well showing PayPal that this was the e-mail I relied on with the address stated as well as the documentation that the label was correct and the tracking was corrected. Uncensored versions were provided to PayPal. At this point if the seller does not issue a refund on their own, I have no doubt that PayPal will force a refund based on the tracking information properly showing the relevant information (which is why shipping to the provided addresses by PayPal is so important per their Buyer and Seller protection terms and conditions).

As of this time the seller has stated they will issue a refund though they won't be able to pick the doll up for a while. As of this time they have not issued a refund.

Note, the red censor bars in the IG message were uncensored in the DM to the seller. I censored them here because they show the address.

    38. Seller has indicated they have not yet had a chance to check with their parents yet on the receipt of the package (I misunderstood in a previous post). However they will check soon with their parents to ensure everything is in good order and have offered a refund tomorrow. I am appreciative of them for this. I know this has been an ongoing stress case for both of us and while it is an incredibly frustrating situation, this does seem to have been an honest mistake and the seller is making a good faith effort to meet half way on this.

    40. A final remark too. I assume the package has been looked over but I have encouraged the seller to thoroughly examine the doll or have their parents look it over and about the time frame for an insurance claim with USPS if it comes down to it.
