Osaka Dolpa 5 (8/3)

Do we know how much they're going to cost? I'm mostly interested in the price of the SDC, I have a good idea for the others.

If I figured it out correctly, the SDC Ryu is under $550. That is a big IF as I know the last one, the adorable Renee, was $616, but it's likely more for exchange rates.

 

Oh okay thank you! Yeah, and Renee was super limited...is it possible she cost more because of that?

 

All of the SDC boys Volks released costed 56,000 yen or more.
Arashi - 58,800 w/ tax (guessing $616 on US site)
Miko - 59,850 w/ tax ($627 on US site)
Kurt - 61,950 w/ tax ($649 on US site)

All of the SDC girls went for less with the exception of Renee who matched Arashi in price.

So I'm guessing Ryu is going to be as expensive or more than Kurt - but I may be wrong! It seems as though all the SDC releases are a little more expensive than the last...

I calculated Ryu to be about 565$, because on his superdollfie.net page it says he's 59,850 yen. Does that sound anywhere close to right?

 

I used Yen2Dollars and got under $550. We'll find out soon for sure.

 

The dolls Volks offers on the US website are always a little higher in price than the straight conversion of Yen to dollar. They may uses a different exchange rate with a larger buffer in it to protect themselves. Also it may include some money for the shippment from Japan to California.It is not a huge difference but noticeable - close to $100 on the larger dolls.

 

Yeah, I figured they padded it since the exchange rates varies daily.

The close-ups of Kun make her seem cuter to me now,but I'm still not a big fan.

I wonder when Volks USA will come up with the lottery info and whatnot?It's two weeks till the event,but I'm not sure how close to the events till VolksUSA updates their website. (Anyone know from the past Dolpas?)

This is what happens when I half-read this place for so long. I remember when the previous Yo-kids came out saying "Wouldn't it be cute if they came out with Kun?"

Volks, you naughty NAUGHTY dollymakers...you made one and JUST at what could be the right time.

I'm playing zen on this. I figure that if weeKun is meant to join the family, then a weeKun will join the family with only moderate difficulty.

Let's hope it doesn't interfere TOO much with my wedding payoffs

Me too! I can't wait to find out if Yo-SD Kun will be available in the USA lottery! And I am really falling for Yui and Ryu also. I definitely agree that Yui looks like the SWD version of the MSD F-18. I got my F-18 to be Kurumi's little sister, and she fits the role perfectly. It would be so cute to have the SWD version too -- especially in that adorable h.Naoto outfit and wig!

Now to decide if Kun is the first Yo-SD I want to try to bring home...
Also, I read the 'story' for Ryu - it seems curious that he is a messenger from Tenshi-no-Sato. What could it mean (if anything)? My guess is that maybe (MAYBE!) they're giving a hint that SDC might be available via FSC soon.

 

Is it just me, or did the YoSDs get about $40 more expensive?

I thought the last ones cost under $400... *confused*

 

My guess is that they're figuring in a higher exchange rate. That plus the underwear sets could count as an outfit (most - if not all - previous releases seem to have been sold without clothes).

Still, I'm wishing that they could have hit the under $400 mark


edit: I should clarify that calculating the Japanese price of 38,850 to US dollars in the current approximate exchange rate ($1=106 yen) gets the total somewhere around $367. I find it irritating that US purchasers will have to pay so much more (unless they take their chances on there being an after-event on the International site, which is even more iffy). But! The after-market price for Yo-SDs are usually $500+, so all in all I suppose $407 is still an ok price after doing a cost-benefit analysis (figuring in shipping, the plus of being the first owner, and one's own personal time saved not having to deal with alternative buying methods).

edit again: I just poked around and found the prices for the Dolpa-only Yo-SDs (the four sisters), who also were sold with underwears. They were $428+ tax & shipping. So these new releases are $21 less than the last Yo-SDs available in the US.

 

I bet the exchange rate does have something to do with it. Plus they do come with some clothes. Hina was over $500.00 if I remember right and she came with a full outfit and plush toy. They may also just be raising the prices of the dolls in general. The standards are more now then when I started collecting as are the SDC.

Overall I am not too upset about it. I expect steep prices in this hobby and volks is worth every penny imho. With overseas shipping prices and after market prices, I think it is a pretty good deal. ^_^

 

Wow the Yos are going to be available? I thought someone had said they read that they were going to be Dolpa only like the Four Sisters Yos. Anyway I'm happy cause my Mom can try for her Ryo's little brother. XD

The 4 sisters at Dolpa was $428. These Yos also come with underwear like the 4 sisters and optional parts order form.

 

Ahh, I missed that they came with clothes, since the other ones generally haven't I didn't even pay attention to that.... that would explain the price increase.

I wonder if they'll do Yos of all the standards? I hope hope hope they do a Yo version of Syo someday.

 

The impression I got was that the Yos are Dolpa-only in the sense that they are not going to be available for either the Japanese or the International After Events. Glad to see they'll be available for the US lottery, though.

 

The timing is both good and bad. I promised "no dollies until after the wedding", but I have to play an exception on this one (and by technicality, I won't find out if I get weeKun until after the wedding...so I am not totally breaking my promise XD).

C'mon, lil' Alyss...*fingers crossed!* (somehow, having a name in place sometimes helps my luck *LOL*)

 

I'll be applying for Ryu as well. Arashi is my dream boy, but WOW! Ryu just did it for me too. I'm so impressed, and if I have a chance, I'll take it. ^^

*hyperventilates* Omg...omg...if they did a Tsukasa or Cecile Yo I would just DIE. Imagine if the Cecile was a chibi scarface! XD

 

When I saw that they made a YO version of Ryo, I thought to myself "It's about time!!" From looking at all of the Dolpas that have passed, it looks like the Ryo doll is sort of the black sheep.
Every other mold has had sleeping heads or other special things done to it but the Ryo had only 3 changes (normal first edition, Christmas and Pure Skin). I know he's not a popular but I love this doll. I would definatly buy the Yo version...but my money is being saved on an apartment.
But when I finally get more money I hope they make a mature 13 version of him.

 

After being in this hobby for a little more than a year, I've realized that I like SD and SD13 sizes the most. I'm partially glad that there is only one SD13 size doll for this Dolpa, and that is Eden, which I don't care for. But at the same time, I am easily tempted by both Yui and Ryu. I may put in for both of them, since I like every detail about Yui and want the SDC boy body from Ryu.

Is it a lottery too or do they just get a certain amount?

Not sure, but I -think- happens is that they are informed they can sell X amount of each doll before the event. Then, orders are taken during the time frame allotted.

If the demand is over what supply they have been granted, they start drawing from those who applied to get one, so that it's fair to all.

If the demand is lower, well, obviously everyone gets one, and then the rest probably either go on the site or perhaps even a store display? That part I was never quite clear on.

I had already emailed them to ask if they knew if they were getting them
and they said they weren't sure yet but I forgot to ask how it works if they do.

 

I believe they take requests in the order they are received for the dolls. Then closer to the lottery date Volks tells each store how many of each doll they are getting and Debra and Rochelle email those lucky enough to get their dolls. They generally have more requests than what they receive from Volks. But there's also the VolksUSA lottery if you aren't able to get a pre-order through the USA distributors. Good luck getting the dolls you want

 

I'm so glad that they're available on VolksUSA,coz it was just plain annoying when the Four Sisters wasn't.

I want Volks to make a YoSD Okita Souji. XDDDD

 

I will have to go for Kun. I've been obsessed with her for years and a small version is fantastic since I don't have room right now. Although I'm not sure it will cure the desire for a BW SD13 version. I have no luck at the lottery though so I am not overly hopeful.

 

I found my American SuggaMomma and she's gonna try and get her for me XD I did good!!
Her only condition was that she gets to play with her before she send her to me XD hahaha.

WLD is We Love Dolls, they are one of the US stores that carries Volks dolls. I think the other one is Kerbey Lane...

 

Yep, We Love Dolls and Kerbey Lane Doll Shoppe are Volks' two US dealers. ^^

tsukishiro are you aware if they will be able to get these limited dolls, or..? Will that be strictly through lottery at first?

 

hahah yesss! I thought I told you that the other day.

 

Both dealers are (usually!) able to get a small quantity of each of the limiteds, but they never know how many beforehand -- they usually take names and make a list of who wants what. When they find out how many of each limited they're getting from Volks, they fill orders on a first-come, first-serve basis.

If you're interested in ordering through either dealer, I would email them to find out when they're going to start taking orders -- I know that Kerbey Lane has a mailing list they'll put you on, and you have to wait until they send out the Dolpa notice to give them your request. WLD seems to be less formal. Both dealers usually take orders before the official VolksUSA lottery opens -- that way if you end up not getting a doll through them, you can enter the lottery, or vice versa. ^^

Eep! I really shouldn't have looked at the Dolpa dolls . . . Yo-SD Ryo is just TOO cute. He's so much like Nono and she's my favorite mold. Hmm, maybe I should just wait and see if they release a Yo-SD Nono. XD

I'm really impressed with Ryu (his outfit, not so much) and I love his stylized look! He'd go so perfectly with my Hewitt, too. Poor little guy is my only mini.*tempted*
