I ordered a dress from Moonlight in November 2021. I just received it now, in July of 2022. Moonlight did respond to me when I asked a month ago what was going on with my order, and said that it was delayed by lockdowns in China. The thing is, I found the maker’s Taobao in the intervening months and had already received the same dress in a different color that I’d ordered in JANUARY 2021 with no issues. (And it was significantly cheaper.) I don’t see myself ordering from them again.
Oo this is really good to know. If I see something I want on Moonlight, I'll be sure to look for a Taobao for that item. I think I did that with Sin mohair wigs but didn't find one (maybe didn't look hard enough too).
I've only purchased from them once, in November of 2021, for an outfit set. It didn't get to me until around May of this year, 2022, so it was quite a long wait, but I'm not sure if it's because of covid situations or not. The quality looked fine to me, the stitching was clean, the fabric was high quality, etc. Looked exactly as shown on the website. Although after receiving it I felt like it wasn't really fully worth the $110 it cost me (before shipping). It's not as complex as other doll outfits I've purchased for smaller prices, like $60-$80. I feel like a lot of the time there will be outfits for sale on Moonlight BJD House that are listed at $100 or more but will be relatively simple in design. It's interesting to hear that the prices are cheaper on the original sellers' taobao pages. If it was easier to find them, I think it would be more cost effective to order through a taobao agent like bhiner or something instead of through Moonlight. I guess with Moonlight you pay a high markup for convenience and the fact that they find these creators for you. Here's images of the outfit set if anyone's curious. Spoiler: outfit pics
@krystina @ashefaust Unfortunately sometimes it’s not easy to find. On Moonlight’s website it says the maker of my dress is called L’s Boutique. It’s actually Funny Unicorn. So there was no way I was finding it on my own until Taobao’s algorithm kicked it up to suggest to me as something I might be interested in based on my other purchases.
Honestly I wish they'd list the makers' socials at least, since those accounts sometimes have links to the original shops. There was a clothesmaker partnered with Moonlight that I found by chance on Instagram once, but other than that I haven't really been able to find them on my own. I'd imagine it would be especially difficult with artists who have more generic/common names, like the one who made the outfit I got, "SIN". I can't imagine searching it would bring up the exact shop on Taobao, if they sell there, since this name is likely used by many sellers of various things.
Yeah, moonlight marks up their prices a fair amount. I was recently interested in an outfit that was $110 on Taobao, $160 including shipping on another agent, and around $220 without shipping on moonlight. If I include shipping, the other agent would be 20-30 more compared to Taobao direct, but moonlight cost $100 more using the slowest shipping method. Moonlight is useful for buying limited clothes/accessories, since they're one of the few agents that offers that. While Taobao direct would be the cheapest, you won't know when something new drops unless you follow the seller. A lot of Taobao sellers have a deposit period, and then the final payment. This is tricky for many buyers since you have to confirm receipt first and then wait for them to tell you when you can make the final payment. P.S. SIN taobao store 首页-SINbyanziruo-淘宝网
I got the Utopia outfit from Liebestod today, bought it from MoonlightBJD. The quality of the fabric is much poorer than it looks on the promo pictures and not all snaps are sewn into the outfit. With those prices and 8 month wait time - have to say I am quiet disappointed. But I guess I should be happy that I got it at all.
oof I’m sorry to hear that the quality is not good for that price and wait time I like that outfit as well
I have not personally found the quality to be a fair match to the price. You can often get much better, cuter clothing from a handmade, high quality Etsy maker for less than what Moonlight House asks. I do not think the price is a fair match for the quality. The quality is nice, but not to the degree it matches the asking price. I would caution against buying from them as after I received 3 dresses from them I paid $100 each for, I was disappointed to realize they were probably $40-$50 range dresses at most. I evaluate this based on the stitching and fabric selected as well as the garment closures. I like them, but have to admit I feel a little jilted paying what I paid. PLUS the expensive shipping and long waiting. I don't think I'll be patronizing them again as it left a bad taste in my mouth and seems quite greedy. I can't even imagine buying their almost $500 dresses they've been putting out lately. That's just insane. That's the price of a Dollmore Trinity fullset dress, which are huge half scale 100cm tall girls the size of toddlers or a whole ass 1/3 doll. Anyways, rant over. I won't be buying from this company again.
Oof I’m glad I haven’t splurged on the Metallized Butterflies outfit I cannot access Sin’s Taobao shop to see the actual price. One day when I’m not lazy I’ll look up how to use Taobao shopping services
If it helps anyone, I happened to find the social media of another one of the artists that Moonlight frequently sells items from, Desers. They go by DesersDesign on Instagram, and their profile lists their email. I also found this shop on Taobao that seems to be Desers, but I can't really confirm it because the site is hard for me to navigate without a translator. The prices for outfits on the Taobao shop are listed only as deposits so I can't really accurately tell how much the price is in comparison to on Moonlight. The deposits are around $120-$130 USD when I use google to convert Yuan to USD, and I think deposits are usually 30-50% of the full price in most places? So the full prices should be something like $250 to $350 probably, maybe a little more if you're using a shopping service like Bhiner. One dress with a $125 USD deposit on Taobao is $415 total on Moonlight. If the Taobao deposit price is 50% of the total, the full price would be $250; if the deposit is closer to 30%, then the full price would be closer to $400. I'm not sure how much of the full price the deposits cover, sorry.
Using BJD-Bhiner to check the listing on Sin's Taobao shop, the highest price seems to be $63 USD. I think it might be for a 1/3 option but I can't read the options. There seems to be another option for the 1/4 version (from what I can tell anyways) for $59 USD. If you want the Bhiner page its this link. Compared to the $99 on Moonlight, it's a little cheaper, and I think other members on the forum have used Bhiner before? I can't personally vouch for the site though as I've only used it to check Taobao listings and haven't actually bought through them.
I found VanillaAnn's weibo... does anyone know how to contact them directly? Do they have a taobao shop? I unfortunately haven't been able to find one!
Does anyone have a taobao link or any other info for the seamstress "Cherry"? Moonlight has sold a bunch of stuff from them but I've never been able to find their Taobao store.
I feel like moonlight is only if you get in stock items,as they ship super fast and since it’s coming from Canada,it gets here way quicker then it from China. But they do mark up prices. But the wigs and clothing I’ve got were really nice. But pre order stuff can be crazy slow, and they take forever to reply to messages
I feel like they are good only if you get in stock item,as they ship super fast and since it’s coming from CanaSo you don’t have ugh, yeah that’s way too long. I got my in stock wigs in less then a week.
I emailed them Monday and they got back to me saying they will mail my order this week. Anyone who’s ordered from Moonlight- do you get a tracking number or does your order show up to your house?
I've only ordered once, but I received an email with my tracking number! Looked like an automated email that some shops send that included the order number, address, and tracking number. I hope your order arrives to you soon!
I’ve ordered a few times, and I always get a tracking number…and it usually arrives pretty quickly to the US within 7-10 days.
Thank you I checked my account (I thought it wouldn’t be on there because I created my account after I purchased I think) and it says my wig should get here by March 1st I’m very excited, I just got a doll back from faceups and I haven’t posted any pics yet because I have no good wig yet
I received my wig today and I’m beyond disappointed. They sent me a 7.5- 8 sized wig, not the 8-9 I payed for. I’m so upset. I’ll have to see if they can partially refund me because the bigger sized wig was more. EDIT: I think I ordered the wrong 1/3 sized That’s what I get for not reading. If I can’t find a doll to wear it, maybe I can trade or sell.
Nooo, especially after waiting so long I’ve done that before. They sometimes have small 1/3 and 1/3…and I don’t always pay enough Attention
Yeah I’m over it now I’m thinking I’ll can trade it with someone or sell it … possibly keep it. I ordered another mohair a couple weeks ago thru BjdBhiner and they had 1/3 sizes that are 22-24 cm. I’m hoping this one will fit my doll It arrived at Bhiner this morning so it will get to me sooner- I hope the quality is just as good as Sin- it’s a pretty cream color
Hello, just wondering if anyone has any problems receiving orders from Moonlight BJD? I ordered a custom made wig By a Chinese artist in August last year and they told me to ship this week on Monday. I didn't realize that it's already Chinese New year now.
They’ll get you your item in the end, but they take a very long time to do so. If you can find and order directly from makers it’s a lot faster (and cheaper).
I ordered a Sin wig from Moonlight and it took about 9 months to get to me. I had to email them 3 times for updates but it seemed like they would only do anything if I had asked for an update. Like if i didn’t email, my waiting would go on for a whole year. I won’t order from them again- I ordered 3 Sin wigs from Bhiner BJD and got them in 2-3 months and for half the price of each. Didn’t have to email for updates either.
Thank you very much for your follow up. 9 Months..., it looks like we need to contact them often and remind them of our order, otherwise, it will take even longer. In the meantime they shipped the wig for me, it's on the way. The wig I ordered was not available on the wig maker's Taobao shop for some reason.
Yep...they are SUPER slow, and I've had to send them like 5 emails to get them to actually ship my stuff. You will get it,just might be 9-12 months
In meanwhile I have received my wig, which was directly sent from China. I'm still waiting for an another wig ordered in September via Bhiner BJD now. Those made to order wigs will take at least 5-6 months.
