thanks guys I have been super driven to finally finish this guy lately, i finally did the first layer of priming (the classic limbs in florist foam look) of course once that dried i couldn't wait to get back to it! since the primer is a very pale gray and his original colour is rather dark he ended up looking like a dalmatian xD i also want to sand down some smaller details that have gotten lost over time like the details of the stomach (you can see some progress in that direction here through i think i want to do a bit more) also i totally forgot to show off the back of the hair! there is a few more details i want to sand, since this was a first go over and my hands were cramping up X___X especially the hair as there is a lot of annoying crevasses that i just didn't have the patience for at the moment also the right shin turned out that the elastic channel was WAY too close to the surface and collapsed in one spot so that will need to be fixed, and there is a bunch of other minor details that could use some epoxy but i am still happy with the results of the first priming, i didn't see any huge flaws (if YOU see some do let me know !!!!!) that would need a lot of reworking to fix here is crossing my fingers to having him finished this year if you want to follow my progress in a more timely manner and for smaller updates you can find it on my doll tumblr: Evening Dreams i post everithing there first! if for no other reason then that i need to upload the images somewhere ....
Not gonna lie.... seeing the "patchy" phase of primer sanding is one of my favorite things. It's like.... watching a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. I know that must sound so weird.
He's so precious! Oh wow, it's been 5 years since you started this project. It's great to see this little guy elvolving.
You're not the only one! I love watching the creation process and there is a lot of charm in the unfinished state (although this little guy will be lovely when finished, too, of course!).
Miss_Pygmalion that's true! evie the kid thanks! i know i can't believe it's taken me this long! to be fair a lot had happened and sometimes this project had to take the back burner for months at a time... StellaMarigold thanks!
It’s so amazing to see this project’s progress. He is looking more and more amazing! I’m really excited to see what’s next! You’ve already put so much time and love into this doll, thank you for sharing the journey with us!
Only today I found this topic, but I already know that I will stay here for longer! Very detailed sculpt, I like his face... If you're planning a preorder in the future, I'll be the first to buy this guy!
second layer of primer... doing much better in the cohesiveness front! (this is after some considerable amount of sanding ) i still need to do more but they are hard to reach or sand around parts (like the palms of the hands or any of the face details tbh) and i am hoping that a drill bit i have will do the trick the parts marked pink are where i need to add epoxy, which isn't actually in a lot of places! but one one of the most noticeable is the right knee where the upper thigh is too thin around the joint x.x one of his index fingers, big toe for symmetry and a chipped ear also here is how he stands even with the heavy head of hair ! (leaning back and slouching) overall i happy with the progress he is so close i can taste it TT^TT if you want more timely posts or see him featured with miniatures head over to my tumblr thoughts? concerns? feel free to leave comments !
Oh my gosh, he is looking FANTASTIC! I love the way he stands, so cute! His hair sculpt suits him really nicely too!
LadyDove thank you i actually didn't spend that much time engineering him to stand, i first tried to get the joints to fit but once they did that standing followed up readily enough lol i am glad you like the hair, it's been quite an adventure to sculpt @3@ (what you see here is actually take 2 at least for the front bangs)
Oh my goodness he is soooo tiny and amazing! And his posing is so expressive!! I don't even know how anyone can make something so small yet still detailed and delicate like that, I am super impressed by your talents! Can't wait to see the next steps!
He is absolutely adorable..I've been watching your posts and just have to say you did an amazing job..well done
not sure if you're still around but this is one of the loveliest tiny dolls i've ever seen, he's so charming and very well sculpted! If you ever get him cast to sell I will totally buy one he's so lovely!
thank you everyone! your encouraging comments mean a lot i am still working on him, but i am stuck at the sanding stage and it's really no fun x__x and nothing much to take photos of either
Ah, sanding … the least loved stage of doll-making. I am also looking forward to seeing this adorable boy finished sometime.
He's absolutely amazing! I can't believe how much expression you were able to get on such a tiny doll. Just beautiful!!
thank you for you kind am supportive comments! it's been way too long but here is where i am at now: i did a lot of priming and restrung him to make sure the primer wasn't too bulky preventing proper posing (mock face up and some 4 mm eyes i cast my self ) (if the images are not loading you can find them here ) most of him just needs a touch up on primer except his hair which i made last so that's to be expected and much more frustratingly his legs they are kicker then i would like and worse are a bit hard to get him to stand
Just found this thread and omg, what a journey!! Your little Orchid is an absolute charmer - the facial expression, the hair, the little legs!! I'm in love with him. Very happy that you're still working on him. Push through, I believe in you!!!
he's absolutely gorgeous, i even love his name. also, obligatory comment about how small he is, lord i never thought i'd like a 1/12 doll this much (probably, bc as you said, not many mature sculpts for smaller dolls)! i love the face and he does pose very well. very excited to see how he turns out!
OMG your little one looks like he's almost done, how exciting!! He has come so far and looks just fantastic, I can't wait to see him finished and complete after so long Congrats on sticking with him and all the hard work, it will be worth it! Sorry to hear about the legs, I am having a similar problem, it's so frustrating at this late stage ;_; Making tiny dolls like this is sooo hard, especially hand sculpted, so hard... every part is so tiny and finicky.
