Large On the lakes coast: travel photos (Bimong Narin68)

Spoiler: Notes on travelling with a BJD

I did a lot of drive-sightseeing and day walks and hikes. Driving, I kept Hayk in a doll carrier; hiking, I put him into my backpack and carried my DSLR camera in a separate bag. At all times, I wrapped the doll in a sleeping bag-type cover so he's all contained. I made it a point to have him in a simple outfit so nothing is easily lost or damaged.

Weather conditions were good and calm half of the time. The other half was unideal: too much sunlight, or blustery wind (not friendly to free-standing dolls). A couple of locations defeated me and I couldn't set up for doll pics. But most of the time, I kept a YOLO attitude and made the effort, and the photos turned out wonderful. No regrets whatsoever.

I didn't really want to deal with onlookers so I tried to take pics in secluded places, at less busy times of the day (if possible), and work quickly, but I couldn't avoid all people. I did get one insensitive comment, but onlookers mostly left me alone -- though it's entirely possible that I was in a flow state and didn't hear or notice anyone. The big camera in front of my face was a good shield, and it's easy to tune out the world once I get hyperfocused.

Hayk is very light (about 1.6 kg when dressed) for a 68cm BJD, so he was easy to carry in my backpack with other gear. But his light weight and structure makes him a little bit fragile. He's not very trustworthy at freestanding, but we managed if the wind conditions were still. We'll see what happens in future, but I may not take him on this kind of intensive travel again.

@PoppyVengeance Thanks, that mural was wonderful and I had to take doll pics with it. Yes, the onlookers I've met are usually polite and curious when they ask questions or make comments about my dolls. But this time I got one comment about me that insinuated something about my state of mind, which was a bit annoying. No big deal though - you take these things in stride.

@cobaltconduct Thank you! ahah, summer goth wasn't on my mind, but that's a fitting desc since Hayk is always in black clothes. He's coming along very nicely and I'm fond of him

 

@Littlebirdzoom Thanks! I love taking pics of my dolls and I have many ideas for Hayk, so there will be more pics of him in future. He's excellent at posing but there are some things he doesn't do as well as other dolls (like free standing). I'm encouraged to see that Bimong is making progress on orders including Narin68, so I hope you'll get your dolls in good time!

 

@lutke Thanks! Oh, I will definitely bring Hayk for outdoor photoshoots at local places around my city. He probably won't go on extended travelling again, but I'm still glad I took him for this road trip.
