Obitsu General Discussion - Part Two (60cm, 55cm, 50cm and 47cm)

Apr 12, 2012

    1. Does anyone have the 60-303 head? I can't find the wig and eye measurement anywhere. Would it look good on the 50cm body or would it be too big? It doesn't seem to be very popular. The kitty mouth is really cute. :kitty2

      edit: apparently it's a 7/8

    2. I believe the current part number for this head is 60HD-F03-E.

It's one of Obitsu's older heads listed for their 60cm bodies. It probably takes 16mm eyes (most Obitsu 7-8 sized heads do). Being an older head I don't think it has eye pockets so larger eyes would probably fit. Other 7-8 sized Obitsu heads (Haruka, Gretel) look good on the 50cm body. I would expect this one to look good (size-wise) as well.

    4. I just revamped my Luna's style.. (she's due for a new name and character, but for now at least she's looking much better!) So I thought I should show her off :)

    5. Nice color combo!

    6. Quick goofy kind of questions as I know the measurements are listed on the parabox site, but what is the actual measurement around the top of the neck, base of neck, and shoulder to ground on the obitsu male 55cm body? I know things can sometimes vary from the official measurements.

    7. I haven't had an unmodified 55cm in many years, so I can't help you. Sorry.
Maybe someone else will answer the call...

    8. Thanks to those who answered some of my questions! My Komugi/vmf50 girl is home! I haven't had time to take proper pictures of her though..:pout: I hope to post pictures of her soon! Also the struggle is real when it comes to clothes but I managed to throw on an outfit that looks half decent. :XD:

    9. I was wondering if you can use DD hands & feet on an Obitsu 60cm body? I would really like to change her hands out at the very least. Shes already and Obitsu with DDH-07 Head. :)
Thanks for the help! I just dont want to buy them if they won't work.

    10. The short answer is yes. It will require a little bit of fudging.

DD hands are overall larger than Obitsu hands. More importantly the skeleton part on DDs are a lot larger than the same part on Obitsus. So DD hands will fit on Obitsus, you just have to stuff the DD hands with clay or Fimo or some such material to hold the hand on and keep it from wobbling around.

Obitsu and DD feet are vastly different. You will not be able to swap the foot vinyls without a ton of cutting and fudging. But if you leave the ankle joint in the DD feet you can make an easy swap. The DD ankle top has a tube which will slip on the "shin bone" of the Obitsu 60cm. Whereas the bottom of the DD shin is completely open and the bottom of the Obitsu shin has a small hole that fits snugly around the ankle joint. You will have to apply a lot of heat to get the ankle in place. Once it's in you will then have to decide if it looks right to you.

    11. thank you! I am not a fan of the Obitsu hands or feet--on appearance. I wanted to try and swap them out if possible. I will try it and post pictures after its complete to share! :) I appreciate the input.

    15. @XDollyLovr Thank you!
@K-2! Lol, I keep thinking Naomi or Yomi, I'm kind of stuck between the two of those names. I like both of them.

It's been hot where I live so I'm sewing the new girl a swimsuit. :blush

    16. Hi guys! this is my first post in DoA. These are my two Obitsu VisuaDolls I happen to own. Their bases are Moegi Obana and Aoki Sora. The left one is called Hazuki ่‘‰ๆœˆ (August) and the right one currently doesn't have a name yet since I just got her a couple days ago. I hope we can get along real nice.

    18. Hi everybody!

@ToRmEnT Your vmf50 is so pretty! Both Naomi and Yomi are nice names!

@K-2! He looks so suave and cool! I love his glasses with the jacket and layered hair!

@Stratocaster Hi! I can't view the link to your Hazuki and her friend as of now. Happy to know you're getting along nice with them!

This is my first custom doll named Shion. I received her December 2013 as a surprise Christmas present and didn't know heck how to do doll customs. We bought her wigs (too big) from a local wig shop then tried to make her resin eyes (which need more improvement for her to use xD). Eventually we bought her eyes and wigs from parabox, gave her a simple faceup, 2 more heads, then my mom and I made her clothes. I was too shy to post her before but would like to share her now (and more often if it's ok in the future!).

    19. Custom dolls are great fun. They can be anything you can imagine. As you've discovered there's a bit of a learning curve. We're all still figuring this doll thing out.
Thanks for posting Shion. She's very pretty along with her dress, which I assume is one of your creations. Very nice.

    21. How can I buy obitsu 60 or 65 cm boy body?

    22. I finally got the 55cm boy body for Magnus, my one and only. I found a few of my SD and MSD clothes fit him so I can show him off now. He will need his own set of clothes but I'm working on it.

    24. Overall I like it. It is a nice size when placed with Obitsu's 60 and 50cm bodies. It uses the same jointing types as the tried and true Obitsu 60cm ball joint body. It has a nice masculine body sculpt without looking like an overly muscled weightlifter. It is very light and posable for its size. There were some problems with arm joint breakage in early production runs, probably due to the increased torque generated by the greater leverage of the longer limbs, but that seems to have been sorted out. I have two right now. One is the Shade character in MADh Vinyl and the other played Malvek in the Escape from Tatsukura story arc.
I guess my only complaint would be that the neck is a little too long for my tastes but that's an easy fix.

    25. wow cool projects! Is the SD clothes fits on him?

    26. Because of the vagaries of "SD size" I would have to answer, "Sort of..."
I try to match up circumference measurements (chest/waist/hips) as much as possible when clothes shopping. These are the measurements that are hard to alter in clothing. As an example, Shade's suit was from a seller on YJA. It was listed as being for a 70cm, but the chest and waist measurements were right. I had to have a friend hem the sleeves and pant legs, which were 2-3cm too long. Malvek's outfit has a base made from a "loose and baggy" SD size temple priest type outfit. So it was very forgiving as far as fit.

    27. Ah this is my problem with obitsus.. so hard to dress them up. Maybe I will put 55 body on the 60 legs? Did you try that?

    28. Yes, I've done that and the other way around, 55cm legs on a 60cm torso.
The 55cm torso is about the same size as the 60cm torso so you'll pretty much have a regular 60cm.

Given, the only place you'll find clothing labeled, "Will fit Obitsu 55cm," etc. is Parabox. But I have found other companies that make clothes that will fit them just by looking at their published measurements. I should probably start a list...
      Luts....XYZ body....fits Obitsu 50cm
      Luts....ABC body...fits Obitsu 60cm, 55cm-sleeves are long
      Dollmore....123 body....fits Obitsu 50cm, snug
      etc...

    29. I hope it's okay to say this, but I've found clothing for my 50cm at the Thrift Mart before. ^^; Sometimes they sell really beaten-up large dolls whose clothes are still good. I found an entire set recently, including shoes, for $5 (the doll was half-off that day.)

It only works if you like Victorian, though.

It was a vast improvement, money-wise, over those $50+ sets I was eyeing online!

The shoes are a bit tight, but other than that it fits pretty much perfectly. It just needed a good wash and some tlc.

    30. Oh my god yes please do. Buying anything that isn't specifically for my 40-50cm bodies is an absolute crapshot sometimes. I've found that MDD stuff fits the 40cm body but can be a bit tight if it's a close fit and/or intimate article. Finding cute underwear is a challenge sometimes. I'd like to know exactly how loose DDS/DD underwear is on a 50cm body, but I'm not prepared to hand over money on something that is only a maybe any more - too many disappointments.

And don't even get me started on crap labelled "fits MSD". Bullshit. If it actually was sized for an Mini Super Dollfie it wouldn't be an issue but no.

    31. ooo please do a list. I am thinking not to buy more obitsu just because the clothes problem.

    32. I hope nobody minds, but I did actually make a list to this effect a while back for Obitsu 60cm, 48cm, and 40-45cm girls :) I only have a 60cm, but we had originally been planning to get more and still might sometime. Most of these are going off of measurements, but I CAN verify that Obitsu 60cm fits most SD13 girl clothing (it might be a little bit big, but it depends.. I've had lots of luck with Dollmore, Nine9Style and Luts SD13 girl clothes on my girl).

      Obitsu 60cm FITS:
Iplehouse JID Girl (unless specifies that it does not fit glamour bust)
Volks SD13 Girl (too big in the waist, good fit at bust and okay at hips)
Luts SDF Type 1 Girl (too big at hips, okay at waist)
Luts SDF Type 2 Girl (too big at hips)
Luts Delf Girl (too big at hips)
      Dollmore Youth Eve (almost perfect)
Fairyland Feeple60 (slightly big in the hips)

      Obitsu 48cm FITS:
      Iplehouse JID Girl (perfectly)
      Volks MSD Girl (perfectly)
Luts KDF Girl (slightly bigger in bust)
Luts Model Delf Girl (large bust only, slightly smaller in waist so must be stretchy)
Dollmore Kid Girl (slightly smaller in hips)

      Obitsu 40-45cm FITS:
      Iplehouse KID (if stretchy)
Volks MSD Girl (a little big at bust/waist)
Luts Model Delf Girl (PERFECT FIT)
Narsha Doll (slightly smaller in bust and hips)

But pretty much that gives you something to go on... like, if you know XYZ clothing brand fits, say, a Luts Delf girl, you know what kind of fit it would have on your Obitsu girl. :) and several of these companies sell clothing, too.

    35. Hello! I'm new at vinyl doll hobby but i really want 60cm body with Mafuyu head, i asked Parabox and they said Mafuyu head wont work on 60cm body :(:(
Is it really wont work at all? Because when i saw the comparison of many heads on Parabox site its pretty close to Gretel which she can use 60cm or 50cm body... oh and 60cm body is out of stock:...(:...( im so sad i really want to buy my first vinyl doll asap:...(:...(

    36. The people at Parabox have very definite opinions on what head works with what body. This is all based on the relative size of the head as compared to the height /girth of the body. There are cases where heads they don't recommend for a certain body actually look fine. In the end it's all a matter of personal tastes. Since vinyl heads aren't that expensive (about $15-$25 each) the best way to tell is to buy one and check for yourself.

The Mafuyu head sculpt (50HD-F04W-E) 50-04 first appeared on a limited production complete doll made by Obitsu.
      ใ‚ฏใ‚ชใƒชใƒ†ใ‚ฃ : ใ‚ชใƒ“ใƒ„่ฃฝไฝœๆ‰€

Right now even the Obitsu online shop is out of stock on 60cm bodies. Try looking on Yahoo Japan Auctions.

    37. And that for reason, this head is too childish as for me, and putting it on full sized mature body can work not very well. Why not to use it with 50 cm body, as Obitsu itself does?
And this body easier to get.

      • x 3
    38. aah i see. i really like Mafuyu cause i love her childish look (all of my dolls have that type of look lol) :D:D and 50cm is too small for my reference since i have 2 MSD
i have online shop clothing for BJD so i dont need 50cm, i only need 60cm since its almost the same size as Dollfie Dream.:lol:

oh i found 60cm body on Mandarake, hope i can buy it im waiting for my agent since i cant buy it by myself :dance:dance

    39. Yap, her childish look just awesome! But I always thought that MSD is about 42-43 cm, how can 50 cm doll be too small then?

Aha, I see. God luck then! :chibi
And what's good about Obitsu, you can always get body of another size and put the head on in just split of a second, without dealing with those strained strings that trying to escape if you just lose your attention just a bit!:thumbup

    40. Good for you! We'll be expecting pictures once she's finished.

    41. I bought the body yay!! Now i just have to buy the head, hands parts, and eyes! :dance:dance:D thank you for helping me! I will post her pictures when she's complete!!:D:D

    45. Hi, is it normal for Parabox to be so late at shipping the package? Its been 3 days since i bought a head and they havent send me the tracking number:(

    46. It is normal, Parabox took something like a week to ship my dolls when I ordered last. I guess sometimes it takes some time to find stuff and get it together to go out :p

    47. Hello,

are here people who have a lot of obitsu 1/3 dolls?
I searched the whole day and watched videos on youtube, but it still seems unclear.

Things I would like to know are:
      - What are all the 1/3 sizes? Seems that there is female in 48 and 50, male in 50 and 55, and some in 65. I never found a list with all.

      - It seems the 48 girl is more poseable than the 55 male. Does aynone know if that is true? I only found posings and reviews of the female one. What are their most poseable bodies?
This is a 48 female, and I would like the males to do that too:

      - Is it possible to match a obitsu body in 48 or 55 with some jointed hands? I want to buy a obitsu but I need one with jointed hands.

      Greetings

    48. I have owned the 50cm girl, 55cm boy and a 60cm boy (yearrrrs ago when the only way to get a boy was to buy a girl and a boy chest piece then swap it out).

It's been awhile since I owned any of them and I never owned them at the same times, so I can't really compare the posing. They all decent posing.

About the hands. Obitsu hands attach with a peg system and resin jointed hands attach with s-hooks. Because Obitsu is not a strung doll, I don't think you could put jointed hands on them. It might be possible with a lot of modding, but it won't work as a simple switching out. Even if you do mod your doll, due to vinyl and resin having different textures, consistency and colors, it won't match perfectly, though you can get it close with blushing. As far as I'm aware, there aren't jointed hands made for vinyl dolls. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

    49. I've got one or two...
There are two Dollfie Dreams in there, the rest are Obitsus bodies, 40cm to 65cm from Obitsu, Yamato, Angel Philia, Visuadoll, and Parabox.

Obitsu Plastic Manufacturing Company, Ltd. makes 1/3 scale vinyl dolls for many different companies including Azone, Visuadoll, Angel Philia, and Parabox. These companies all use the Obitsu 50cm and 60cm bodies along with custom body parts and heads made to their specifications. To find the full spectrum of Obitsu manufactured bodies you would have to shop several of these companies. In 1/3 scale from smallest to largest, we would start with Parabox and their 40cm, 45cm and 47cm bodies. Next would be the 48cm and the 50cm bodies, which can be found from Obitsu, Angel Philia, Visuadoll, and Azone. Next would be the 55cm from Obitsu, Parabox, and Visuadoll. Then the 60cm body from Obitsu, Parabox, and Azone. And finally the largest, the 65cm body from Obitsu. There is an excellent comparison picture on the Parabox site.
Obitsu body - Parabox original bodies
Note at the bottom of the picture the light blue and pink bars stating the type of internal body structure of the various bodies. Basically there are two types of internal skeletons used in Obitsu bodies, the older "60cm" type and the newer, smaller "50cm" type. Many of the parts are interchangeable within each of these two skeleton types but not between the two skeleton types.

The short answer is "yes", the 48/50cm body is more poseable than the 55/60cm.
The long answer is that first off, all Obitsu bodies are extremely poseable. Where the 55/60cm falls behind the 48/50cm is in range of motion. The double pivot points in the elbows and knees of the 48/50cm yield a greater range of motion than the single ball joint of the 55/60cm. The 55cm body is also slightly hampered by some of the vinyl parts, which overlap some ball joints decreasing the range of motion of these joints. The 60cm body has fewer such overlaps.

The 48/50cm bodies are overall the most poseable.

With all doll bodies, physics rules what poses a body can accomplish. Most doll bodies are hampered by the fact that two objects can not occupy the same place at the same time. Doll bodies, unlike flesh and blood bodies, do not compress as much when limbs are folded back on one another. Doll bodies try to get around this by adding more joints, often where none exist in reality. Vinyl dolls can get around some of this because the soft vinyl parts of the body (most notably the chest and abdomen) will compress. The pose shown in your picture is accomplished by compression of the soft vinyl torso. You can see the large fold/buckle in the abdomen vinyl just above and behind the elbow joint. The 55/60cm bodies won't quite make that pose. The abdomen is molded such that bringing the legs up to the chest won't compress the abdomen vinyl above the leg/hip joint. Also the ball style knee joints in the 55/60cm body don't fold back on themselves as much as the 48/50cm's knees.

Jointed resin hands can be mated to an Obitsu body. Here is a tutorial for the necessary modifications.
      http://www.junkyspot.com/OBITSU/forums/index.php?showtopic=26214
While this tutorial is for the 55/60cm body, the principle would be the same for the 48/50cm body. You would need to take some measurements to find the right diameter and length of tubing. When looking for your jointed hands, look for a color match to "Volks Normal". Most Obitsu bodies come in Obitsu white skin (sometimes translated as "whitey"), which is a close match to Volks Normal.

    52. @K-2!, We've started 5 years ago with decision to get just two dolls - one small with kid body (Yellow Lati have been selected), and one middle sized with grown up body (Minifee Ryeon). That was idea of my better half, if it can be excuse for me in any way. And that should be all, all at all, I'm serious!.. But next year we have got PukiPuki Sugar and P-chan by Obitsu/Parabox. And I have to confess - the last one was fully my idea. :doh

    57. They're a bit loose, but if you aren't too picky about sizing the Journey Girls outfits from Toys'R'Us can be made to fit big obitsus...

The shoes won't work unless you really, REALLY heavily mod them beyond repair, however.
