Shopping NYC doll store?

Nov 24, 2022

    1. Any BJD stores (ik unlikely) or doll stores that may have clothes/furniture suitable for BJDs in NYC? I'm traveling and figured if there is such a place in the states, it's probably there

    2. Physical stores are very rare to non-existent, sadly :sweat
Japan is a rare exception, or at least the Tokyo area. Mandarake has physical locations, some other second-hand places sell them as well, and there are of course the official Volks stores too. Korea has some stores/cafés as well, not sure if China does. Outside from that you are pretty much out of luck, you can maaaaaaybe be lucky that a local dealer has a place that can be visited. As far as I know though, none of the US dealers are in that area.

    3. What Ara said. The closest physical retailer to NYC for specifically BJD stuff that I know of is Fabric Friends & Dolls allll the way down in MD.

However, as far as your other request, “doll stores that may have clothes/furniture suitable for BJDs”…maybe you could check the American Girl store for props? I there are threads here about what props and furniture work (only certain ones) from their lines for 1/4 and 1/3 BJDs. Clothes are not going to be suitable, though.

    4. Oh cool, I'll check that out! Yeah, I figured there wouldn't be a specific bjd one but I'm in need of furniture for my 1/4s and 1/3 so maybe I'll get lucky at the American Girl store. Thank you!

Yeah, I wasn't too hopeful lol. Thank you for your input!

    5. Seconding the American Girl store in NYC! I got some great accessories for my dolls the last time I was there^^

    6. If your dolls have a more classical vibe, then I'd recommend antique shops and thrift stores as well. Larger porcelain doll furniture seems to fit 1:4 and 1:3 scale dolls in my experience, though I'd recommend either bringing a doll with you, or at least a measuring tape. For instance, I brought my Felicity (SD Victorique) out to a few antique stores, when eyeing this bench I actually thought it was too large... but it turned out to be a tad on the small side. Looks are deceiving!

    7. Oh yeah thrift stores are awesome, I have several wonderful BJD-appropriate chairs from local thrift stores. I don’t think you particularly need to stop at one in NYC or during a special trip there though.

    8. See if there are any outlets selling MyTwinn stuff too. I don't know about much, but the MyTwinn wheelchairs fit 1/3 guys fine.

    9. Sweet, thank you! I hadn't been aware of MyTwinn!

    10. First of all, she is beautiful! Thank you for sharing :) and that's a fantastic idea! I actually just bought one of those bubble cat backpacks so I can take my SD Crobidoll with me

    11. Some WellieWishers clothes can actually work for MSDs. :) They're not exactly the same proportions, but they're close enough that looser fitting items do work well

    12. Can confirm! Ruby Red Fashion Friends clothes fit too. They actually fit Volks style MSDs fairly well.
