Hello, The Pale Empress, Absolutely you are allowed to come to the meet ups. We would be excited to meet you. The NJ groups are fun. I have been to a few of those meets over the years. Most of us will wrap our dolls in some sort of small blanket or towel. I picked up a few baby blankets at the outgrown shops. They are very soft. Then place them into a doll bag. You will see a very wide range of dolls. I come into NYC to the PABT bus terminal from Pennsylvania. I know of 1 other person that comes into PABT from NJ. If you would like to meet at the PABT and walk up or take the subway to the meet together. Also, we usually go to a local restaurant and have some dinner before heading our separate ways for the night. The initial post in this thread has all the information about where we meet. Hope to see you there. The "E" train stops just below the building we meet at. You go out the exit next to the Dunkin Donuts and go up the escalator.
Hi @scorpion thank you very much for the kind words!!! I’m seriously hoping I can make it in next time! I’m kind of shy in person but I can’t wait to talk to other people even though I’m kinda rusty when it comes to the hobby haha ^_^; *edit* I have a unique taste in dolls, mainly horror/DollChateau types but if they are too scary or triggering I can leave them at home and just bring my main classic crew :3 *edit 2* to clarify, none of them are explicit, just maybe a little bloody and skeletal….lol
Hello! I think I remember you. You came to the Central NJ meet once or twice, right? I was the organizer. Nice to see you here again. For packing, I like doing this with a duffel bag: ABJD Packing Guide I only bring one doll with me to NYC. It's not too much to handle. The two additional things I've begun doing since taking these photos is removing heels and doing a little extra to protect the hands. I'll pack high heels separately so they don't have pressure on them and then maybe breaking while on the feet. I also protect the hands by using pipe insulation or pool noodle, a sock, and a rubber band or something. Slice the foam circle thing so you can get a doll hand and arm inside it. Pop it inside a sock. Put the hand and arm inside the slot you sliced in the foam. Wrap the excess sock so the hand is even more protected. Secure it with the rubber band.
You will fit right in. We have a few that have some horror style dolls. And some dolls that are quite weird too. Bring the dolls you would like. The only thing to keep in mind is that we are in a public area. I'm usually on the shy side myself. However, it is a necessary evil to talk to other people. You will quickly make friends at the meet.
I don’t think I have been to a NYC meet in over a decade… I’ll give it a go! Probably my SD 16 in tow for this round.
Good to see you again. Make sure to check the first page of this thread. We are in a different location since your last rendezvous.
Hi my name is Geov ( pronounced like Jove ) and I'll be attending the June 14th meet up. I started getting into BJDs in 2010 but ended up falling out of the hobby for about a decade. I'm getting back into it in a very limited way, so I have a lot of old clothes and doll parts to sell. My question is: it common for people to bring big fullset dolls to this event to sell? Or should I leave those for the online sales? Any suggestions would be helpful ^^
Welcome back to the BJD world. Please keep in mind we are not to directly use the words of "sale". You can however say that you have some extra items you are bringing with you. I think that it has something to do with composition with the marketplace. Any of the items that you have listed is acceptable at the meet. What you are talking about does happen.
i might be in the city again this weekend, can i drop by with no dolls with me. my boys are either naked or just a head right now
Hello again all, As I prepare to transport my dolls, I was just wondering how many dolls do people often bring? And is it alright if I bring an unfinished doll? Thank you ahead of time.
Less so competition with the marketplace than noticeable sales being something that's likely to get us permanently kicked out of the space. In that sense, nothing obviously for sale- no signs, no prices. Usually 1-2 'big' dolls, but people get ambitious sometimes. As long as your doll has all their bits covered, a-ok to display.
I usually bring at least 4 to the meet. Some bring more and some bring less. There is usually a few heads floating around.
I run a tiny Discord for NingyoBINGO, and there is a different discord for "Philly Area BJD meets". I'd be happy to make a channel for the NYC meets on NingyoBINGO if people wanted to use that for communication. I'm trying to convince myself to go... this is the best time it will line up in my schedule until fall, but I took a good fall on Tuesday while in-line skating, and I haven't planned out parking or anything yet. @_@ Feeling a bit tired and overwhelmed... but I don't what to miss the schedule aligning either? I remembered why I went to so many NYC meets before... I took the train from Pt. Pleasant to the city when I lived near there during college! That certainly made things easier than a 2.5 hour drive. Edit: After verifying posting the link wouldn't go against DoA rules: Join the Ningyo BINGO Discord Server! Never expires, but only good for 25 new users. Should be good for this thread. Some people on mobile had issues with getting through the "I'm not a bot" process, but most joining while on a PC had no issues.
Everyone was so lovely, thank you so much for being so welcoming, I had a wonderful time! If my schedule permits, I would love to attend the next one!
lol I think I lost an earring, if anyone saw it please let me know. It looks like the photo https://imgur.com/a/QeCulJc
Thank you for looking me up and saying hi. I enjoyed finally getting to meet you. I enjoy meeting and talking to people that share the same interests.
They usually are slated to start about 1 pm, however people start to arrive about noon. They are usually finished between 4 - 5 pm. Looking forward to seeing everybody once again.
I've only been to the meetup once when it was taking place at the old location, I hope to make it to the July meetup with some new dolls. I had a great time last time but life got in the way, I hope to be making these meetups a monthly thing!
Got my dolls ready for tomorrow. I'll be checking in on this thread because I've never been to this location before and I don't want to get lost lol
I will be coming in the NYC via bus into PABT. If you would like to meet and go up together. It would be an honor.
I get into NYC about 1130. Then I grab a bit to eat near the PABT. If you would like to meet I can wait for you. From there we just hop into the E train and it is just a few stops away.
Hmmm okay! I'll leave a bit earlier then so you won't have to wait too long, its no trouble. Where should we meet at?
I'm guessing that you are coming across on a subway line. I will be in the PABT I could be at the subway entrance there.
OK, I will be in front of PABT between 40th and 41st street on 8th avenue. I'll have a large doll backpack and a small rolling case.
On my way! Edit: there seems to be an issue with the E train, ig anyone's transferring from Port Authority, you might have to get the 6?
Hello again! Is there still a meetup happening this Saturday, Aug 2nd ? I wasn't able to make the last one but I'd love to come to this one if it's happening ^^
Oy vey, I'm going to miss the meet today. The company summer party was yesterday. The food is notorious for getting people sick every year. I think it hit me this year. Everyone have fun.
