Body Comparison New Iplehouse Model SIDM Body Review (New Pics Added!)

Sep 20, 2017

    1. A review of the new Model SIDM body, starring Felix in Glow RS.
This is all done with a doll fresh out of the box - no sueding, kips, modifications, restringing, or hidden supports. At no point was the doll touching the backdrop (except the one time he fell into it).
I did, however, temporarily turn certain joints around as noted below.

Note that I used the knee joints differently in the first two photos - I think the joint itself looks better this way...

...but technically, the length ratios of thigh to calf look better when you use the lower joint alone.

Obviously the mobility joint is not attractive, but useful.

Unfortunately, his upper body is too heavy to hold itself up in this position without a little support from behind.

The new knee and ankle joints are more cooperative than the previous ones when kneeling.

This is as far as the legs wanted to stay spread.

*This pose required turning the thigh of the back leg backwards so the mobility joint could be used.

*And this pose required turning his elbow pieces around backwards so they wouldn't collapse on him. Obviously, the wrists are out of joint anyway.

    2. [IMG]
This one just required turning the back foot sideways for added stability.

No, the arms are not adding any stability here. (I should have put them on his hips or something.)

This is the pose he fell on, because both of the knees were slightly bent.

All the one-foot poses took about a minute to get him balanced, and I wouldn't call them very stable.
However, he did manage to hold each one for at least five minutes while I was taking the photos.

The "trick" to these is to hold the foot flat on the floor with one hand while gently adjusting the angle of his weight with the other.

Edit - A few new ones:

The way the shoulders are designed doesn't really allow the arms to go straight up.
But you can rotate the elbow joints in their upper sockets to bring the hands over the head.

He's not really designed to bend to the side, or at least not while standing.

And finally, rotating the shoulder joints upward a quarter turn makes them stay put better.

In all, I would say the functionality of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle joints have all improved somewhat from the muscle version, but the shoulders and ankles in particular could probably still be even better with a little hot glue. I do think the lower arms and calves are a bit thinner than necessary in comparison to the rest of the body, but then there probably are models who look like this. And besides, my characters usually stay fully clothed.

Keep in mind I'm not claiming all of these poses are easy to do, but they should all be possible with a little patience.

      Hope that helps some people!

Edit: A few clothed photos added in response below!

Edit 2: A couple comparison photos with IH females now on the second page!

    3. Thanks so much for this review!:XD:

It does appear that he poses very well indeed! And I think I he will not look so slim if he has clothes on.
A nice option for those who need a slim bodied character who can pose.

    4. This settles it, I need one. Seriously though, thank you so much for the review! :thumbup

    5. Fantastic review, thank you. I'm on the fence with the new slim SID female body myself but leaning towards it more now

    6. Thank you very much for this review! Poseability is really good. In clothes he definitely will look very natural =)

    7. Wow! Other then him standing on one foot reminds me of the Dollshe DSAM32 body. May have to get him one day.

    8. This is Iplehouse? Wow, I guess they took all those comments about terrible posing to heart.

    9. Looks awesome!

    10. Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to do this @Sianserais ....brilliant!:thumbup:abow:

Your review has made me way more confident about ordering Rachel on the nSID body....and will now even consider an nSID guy too:aeyepop:

    11. Oh wow, thanks for this review. It's so weird seeing an IH actually posing XD -- do the old SID Clothes fit the new body?

    12. You did a great job at doing all those posing.

      Thanks for sharing them.

    13. Thank you for the body review!

    14. Thank you for this! It was informative and so helpful.

    15. damn .... I may need this body lol i am so marking this for references

    16. hey hey hey thats so cool. Now I look to get my girl home even more- ordered Wendy to be one of my characters :-) that looks really amazing

    17. Well, but the females have usually been better posers than the males. The sheer weight of the EIDM and SIDM bodies was always one of their worst problems.

As for clothing, yes and no. Iplehouse pants tend to be tight, so they fit the new body pretty well. The SID shirts on the other hand tend to be too big. However, the shirts marked nYID/SID can fit quite well, since they have adequate room/stretch to get them on. The Freedom Teller SID-size clothing I tried on him was all somewhat loose, but workable, and the two SD17 jackets were closest to perfect (though sleeves riding up is always a problem).

Iplehouse SID jeans and shirt. This one was designed to be loose anyway, though.

Iplehouse nYID/SID shirt and Freedom Teller SID jeans.

Freedom Teller SID jean jacket and pants.

Freedom Teller SD17 'leather' jacket, Iplehouse nYID/SID shirt, SID jeans.

Nine9 Style SD17 jacket over previous shirt and pants and Freedom Teller SID shoes.

Yeah, I skipped shoes on most of these because I didn't feel like wrestling with them too. These FT ones are a perfect fit, though!

    18. I really wish my EID had those joints!! He looks so manageable!

    19. Well, don't let him fool you, he's still a bit fiddly. I forgot to say I had a temporary issue with him yesterday after he fell where the "hook" parts in his hips weren't catching properly, because they'd been knocked a bit too far out of position. I got them back out pretty quickly, but obviously that requires getting any clothing out of the way, which could be a nuisance in some circumstances.

I've owned (and sold) dolls that posed better, still, but I would say it's definitely enough of an improvement that I'm not disappointed. ^_^

    20. Thank you very much for this great review. What a bendy guy :). The only drawback is: He doesn't look like a man. One can't have everything, I suppose.

    21. Question ... I couldn't find the new SID's height anywhere on the page, although I'm positive I've read it somewhere. How tall is he next to the ladies?

    22. Well, according to the LE pages for the first few, they're 66cm, but I could check that for you. Is there a size in particular you want to see him with?

    23. :doh the LE pages! Of course. Didn't think to check those.

An EID girl would be perfection, but if you could put him next to any of the Iple girls that would be awesome. I have nYID through EID, so I could get an idea of how he'd fit in with the crew. :daisy

    24. So in bare feet I got 66cm on the dot as far as I could tell. Hope this helps!

    25. PERFECT. :aheartbea If I could I'd shower those pics in "likes". Thank you so so so much, that helps loads! :dance

    26. You're welcome! I'm actually quite pleased with this version for Jai - he's supposed to be in the late-teens/early adult range, and while he does work, he's not supposed to have a blacksmith's build. My Eva is his adoptive older sister Joraya, and I'm liking how their heights look together here (even if she is in heels). I feel like my Scarlet might be wanting an HID body, though. Or... I might just replace her with an Elle, even though I'd be losing that smirk. ...because Elle is amazing, and still has enough attitude for the character.

    27. This is the SID model body? sorry, I've been out of the hobby for a long time and I came back when I saw these news of a new IH body because Claude has been my dream doll, I got him a long time ago and I didn't like the body, it was too bulky for me so he went to a new home. This new body looks fine and I might get Claude again ....can he wear SD17 pants? can you take a picture of the old body and new body together? please, if you have them :) or the measurements of the new body (I can't find them, I only the see the measurements for the old body). I just want to see how much difference there is from the old body, I don't want to buy Claude again if the difference is not that much. Thank you in advance <3

    28. Yes, it is. ^_^ All their SID men can be bought on it now. As I posted with the additional photos farther down on the first page, some SD17 clothing does fit, but chances are the pants will not (unless they were designed to be loose/adjustable in the waist and groin in some cases). You still will want to look for specific SID-size pants, I'm afraid, though there are a few more sources for them out there now. Iplehouse did some comparison photos in their Body Review section (though you need to be logged in to view them), and you can get the basic measurements on the pages for the last few LE SIDM dolls, like Ray. If you still need something specific not covered by those, let me know.
