Aesthetics New Face-Up

Nov 4, 2016

    1. Wanting to get some critique on my most recent face-up. I feel like there's pretty marked improvement over face-ups I did last March. (clearer photography too. Though I didn't realize his eyes were in a little wall-eyed until after it got darker outside. oTL)

I learned acrylic inks help a lot for doing thin lines and I finally got him to look mad instead of slightly worried.

    2. Amazing! :D The improvement is great, but even before your work was still awesome!
      He seems really intense!

    3. I love his intense expression! And it's a very well done faceup. I only have 2 criticisms, and they are pretty minor. One is that I find his eyelids somewhat distracting because of how light they are compared to all the shading you did around the rest of his eye area. He has dark eyelashes, and dark shading under his eyebrows, but the eyelid is so bright. I think if they had a little bit of shading on the outer edges, they would blend in more and not draw as much attention. :3 And though I love the freckles, I find it distracting that his face is covered with them but his neck isn't. The two ways to fix that aren't very appealing (freckle his whole body... so much work... or have less freckles on the face, but they are so cute!) but I did notice it. Your technique and colors are spot on so there's nothing to critique there.

Looks like you also color matched the head? Seriously great job on that, the color is so good and smooth! Did you use an airbrush? :o

    4. @Foxxi Thank you!

      @overlordu
I might get to freckling the body. I want to see how freckles look without doing a ton of shading. I tried body blushing before but scraped the pink shading off my boy's shoulder not 5 minutes after finishing. :...( But if I do only freckles, it will be easy to redo them because freckles are randomly placed so I can just dot in a couple new ones whenever it's necessary.

Yeah the head is color matched. I don't use an airbrush though. It's just like a few layers of thin paint brushed on and daubed with a sponge to even out the lumps and bumps. It's not as smooth as airbrush work but lol I keep buying dolls instead of airbrush supplies.

    5. I think if you just shade around the neck area and just a few 'basic' spots, nothing too major, and doing freckles everywhere, it'd blend great! :3

    6. Freckled up his body this afternoon and darkened the edges of his eyelids a little.

    7. Pretty good job you did there :D
And it's not easy to "freckle out" a doll ^^

Your brush strokes are clear and confident, and the blushed areas are well defined.
The reddish in the inside corner of the eyes makes the green eyes stand out a lot and the skin textures around them gives them life.

The only piece of advice I could add on such a great job is to allow big beauty mark a bit more transparency.
They are never really just a solid color, but a subtle variant of shades of brown.
You can achieve this by going slowly layers by layers, until you have the effect you want.
It's what differentiate them from, ...mud splatters ;)

Beside this, wow, I never saw your other face ups, but this one sure rocks!
      =^.^=

    8. Ooooh, he looks so good!! I love those freckles everywhere, ahh *___* And I think the eye area looks perfect now!
I'm so jealous you were able to make brush-on color matching look so good!? I tried it once and it turned out horrible... haha... XD

    9. Congratulations on your very, very talented work. Personally I think sometimes a little less of everything could be more, I always have the tendency to "overdo" in creative jobs but then again, that depends on the effect you want to achieve. Thank you for sharing. I should come here more often, forgot how inspiring it is!

    10. @Lawrichai Yeah. Will definitely go a little lighter next round on the beauty marks.

@overlordu I love freckles. He has a freckled booty too hehe :D

    11. Beautiful! he has a very intense look in his eyes. I love how you did his eyebrows, too!
