New Dollshe Sculpts and Rerelease Discussion

Mar 3, 2008

1. bah....

i was hoping the body would be better, but now seeing those new pics with the origin head on it - he looks like he was sculpted off of an insect rather than a person - which can be cool, but i was hoping for something like the old dollshe's... <is greatly regretting selling tan hound now>

it may seem harsh, but i feel there is very little "human" left in him - i think i agree with all the alien comments :sweat

well, it is a great technical work though - certainly took a lot of talent to make that!

2. That is crazy looking but now my boyfriend is going to buy one. As long as it's nowhere near 800 bucks. >_> He said he'd get one for me too and I didn't know what to say. I mean, is there anything to say? That body is...*shrugs*...I want it really badly but at the same time I seriously do not. I think I'll just play with my boyfriend's whenever it comes on sale.

He's buying it because it looks like an action figure. He's got big plans for it. He'd always thought BJD's were too marrionette-like, too androgynous and just too...well...soft. He didn't think the engineering will go anywhere exciting and he was always afraid he might break mine. But he finds this body very, very appealing.

3. head looks a little bit small for this body to me.

4. First impression is very robotic, beautiful but in a cold mechanical way. I have a hard time imagining the Saint or Bernard's faceplate on this body.

5. Will this be the definite, standard body? It's very interesting, and I'm sure the posing abilities will be amazing. The proportions are nice; it's just departed from the lanky realism that I used to so admire in Dollshe dolls. The body and the hands seem to have lost their former elegance, and gone is the thin, realistic male build that I loved. I feel sad, though I'm sure the exaggerated lines and pronounced muscles can be considered improvements. I guess I simply prefer the aesthetics of the older body.

6. Rukawagf: Thanks so much for translating~! I friggin' love you!!!! :D:D:D

7. Full body photos...

Meh...I'm still not sold. The mechanics look like they'd be fun to play with, but I wouldn't want to own it...The triple knew joint...and the whole way the torso jointing is...and still the buttock...

And like DominiqueB; I can't imagine Saint or Bernard's faceplates on the new body.

8. I'd like to see a finished one, and I hope that torso is going to be softened in the final release because it looks like he's wearing armor. That may work for the Orijean alien head but it's difficult to see it working for a normal human type doll.

Frankly, if these weren't the highly anticipated new dolls made by Mr. Dollshe, I bet their "Asian aesthetic" would be called into question.

9. I'll probably need at least 2 of them...

10. I agree! I was thinking he'd make a perfect android (or maybe a terminator?). He does seem way too cold and angular to suit the softness of Bernard and Saint.

11. I just miss the "humanness" of the original body. I'll still probably want one, that's how much I love Saints, but he'll have to be covered up all the time as the body is just too harsh and awful.:(

ETA: Will a softer lined body be made for non Origen dolls? Even a slight softening of those harsh alien lines would make all the difference to me.*crosses fingers*

12. ...toss me in with the 'looks too much like an android' crowd.
Which, if you are making an android out of him, would be all fine and dandy...I'd actually love to see someone do that!
...but as I have no plans for an android doll...the thought of giving this body to a doll being used to represent an actual living organic person just makes me all...:shudder

13. The thing that REALLY puts me off this body is the way the ribcage is sticking out. That's not natural. There's dolls out there showing the ribcage considerably less than this new body and I think THEM to look anorexic. I don't like that. I want a healthy-looking doll. The rest of the body is fine with me, if a bit thin. It's just the ribs that put me completely off getting a Dollshe in the near or distant future.

14. I am going to have to see owner pics. I am fascinated by the structure but it looks so.... eh, yes, robotic, or as Khell said, anorexic >.<
I don't understand the butt XD
I kinda want to handle one in person just to see how it all works.

15. sadly I am not a fan of the new body either, though having actual buttocks is sort of nice, and the legs are more shapely than classick Dollshe cankles, well, the jointing is just too much for me, there is a point where i will accept less poseability to have subtle jointing, and lately a few dolls have crossed it, sadly this is one...however...the lure of the Saint head.....

16. alright..
I've ask a couple of my friends.. no one seems to like Origin...
am I the only weirdo who actually like Origin's face?

by the way, his thighs looks like a grenade to me.. er.. just ways too.... 3D?

17. I like Origin! :D He's sort of a more fierce looking version of a doll I already own, though. :sweat

18. WOW!It's very interesting。HE IS VERY COOL~

19. I also like Origin. However, it is a very extreme sculpt and I would think not that versatile. I agree with others that the stylised, harsh body suits Origin's similar style, but will look just plain odd with a Saint or Bernard head perched on top of it. It is a shame that the first of the recent photos looked as though the final body was going to be softer. Now we have the additional photos I have to say I don't like it. The legs are even longer and stringier than on the original body and that torso is just too harsh. He would probably look amazing with clothes on, but I don't like to be limited to having my dolls fully-dressed all the time.

Good luck to Mr Kim and kudos to him for having the courage to buck the current trend for bulkier, more muscular sculpts, but I'm sticking to my Akando thanks!

20. I must admit I first reaction was "ALIEN!!!! D:"
As much as I have always adored the dollshe dolls there is no way I would ever want a Bernard on that body. I wish I had bought one of the old ones when I had the oportunity but there is always something right?
Anyway I agree with Maumau on this, kudos for trying something new, but not my style at all.

21. Cool！！！！！！:D

22. the body is cool!!

23. Interesting suggestion about the Asian aesthetics. The body is very stylised, but is it too stylised for DoAs standards? I am interested in knowing this, but I guess I'll find out if I just wait.

I like the inhuman look. It works well with android, doll, alien, demon and similar ideas that are milling in my head, but I'd have to think twice before getting this body for a human character. I am, however, very interested in how the new girl will look like.
Will she have the same stylised look or will she be another super sexy, big breasted girl?

24. i want to see him in action ^^

25. I am really falling in love with this body - I am, however, concerned about the proportions of the head : body ratio. They look similar to the current body with the Bernard or Saint heads - the head is too small to be completely aesthetically pleasing and looks odd if the doll is nude and bald. Wigs make up for much of the disproportionate look and probably most non-Dollshe keepers aren't even aware of how truly tiny the head is when they are looking at Gallery pics. :( The Bermann/Hound head : body ratio is exquisitely perfect!

I am also wondering if those abs are "final". Hmmm....

With the alien head, the doll looks so insect-like.

The original dollshe bodies were, also, supposed to be built for posing and they fall short in that regards - I hope the engineering on this new body will prove as breakthrough as the articulation is making it look. It will be near impossible to top the engineering perfection that is the Volks SD17.

What on Earth are the knock-off companies going to do with this???? Will we see armies of bug-like action figures????? ;)

26. I like the genral shape of the body -nice and elegant. But at the moment he looks a bit funny as he is - I think it would look less weird with those abs and ribs sanded down though

27. Oh, I so did not see the pictures of him all put together before. Orijean (Origin?) had best come home to mamma... :mwahaha He may be insect or reptilian like, but I rather like that. I think I'd have to get two. One to paint crazy and one to mod the heck out of.

I want to see him MOVE! I'd have him splayed out doing as many wild poses as I could think of if I were them. I can see his first meetup now. He'd have to show up naked because he'd be stripped in a nano second. Probably flayed apart and in pieces to check him all out as well.

Does he kind of remind anybody else of a Ghayrog?

28. I also do not like the new body. I agree with the "alien" and "insect" comments. I keep going back to look at the body pictures, but they make me cringe in a creepy way. :( I really, really hope that that's just for that particular head. I hope the other, more human heads get a softer, more human body. *sigh* Though I'm guessing that he'd look okay with clothes on, but I like looking at the bodies themselves. Like works of art.

29. I've alwaysbeen more about posing than aesthetics, when it comes to bodies, so I will likely be overlooking the weirdness of the sculpt as soon as I see action-pics. But I can't help but say I'm dissappointed. When I saw the anatomically gorgeous process pics, I guess I just got way too excited. From those pics, I envisioned and expected a longer, thinner, slouchy Soom body, I guess. And that would have likely done me in. T_T This one just makes me **** my head sideways and go 'urrrmmmm.' But again, the posing capability may kick my everlovin ass into buying this bod anyway.

I wish, yet again, that Mr. Dollshe would reconsider converting some of the other old headsculpts for use on this body. I have a dream that one day I'll have my SA Husky.... And this body would work wonderfully for his character because he is sort of a prudish Victorian.... meaning clothed impeccably from chin to toes, at all times. But I might not want to use this body for another character/headmold because there would be too much skin involved.

I suppose I could always mod the bod, though. *sigh* I'm so sick of having to fix all the 'mistakes' of my dolls' sculpts. *lesigh* XD

30. Hm... those are some interesting joints to say the least. But he looks...just... he's not human. If I wanted a robotic doll, or one of those anatomical models for biology, but really, he just sort of freaks me out.

And his head looks too small for his body. All I can think of when I see him is "mantis". I don't know that he'd work at all for stop motion, because of his size and the fact that the movements have to be in such small increments, but he'd probably take some really interesting photographs. Definitely a step in a different direction for doll engineering, but I'm just so glad I got my hound when I had the chance.

31. I think the new bodies are taller, which would explain the head size difference.

32. OOMMMGGGG!!!!!
Dollshe, what have you done?!!! *faints*

THANK GOD I bought a dollshe before they died. It's one decision I'll never regret.

33. D= omg...*hugs Caspian*

I'm so glad i got him when i did

the new body may be posable (guess we can hope?)
But...urgh...its all so defined..unhuman..and slightly scary D=

34. I have to admit the first thing that popped up in my shocked mind was "alien stick insect", too... which is fine, if you need that kind of aesthetic for a fantasy character.

To me it's not so much the in-human, or anatomically incorrect look the body has, it's more its totally inorganic appearance. Like an exo-skeleton maybe...

If Mr. Dollshe wanted to rouse us out of our dolly routine, as he has done before, he has succeeded! But me, I am really glad I have my older Dollshe boys with me...^^

35. I like the body more from the back than the front. The back seems way more human. The front is not quite what I was looking for or expecting though. I'm still excited though to see it in action first.

36. Now looking at the other pictures... i think it's actually amazing, anatomically speaking. It's a step forward, original. I'm not sure it will work for more realistic heads, but for Origin, looks perfect. If the body stands on it's own like that, i'll kiss Mr Dollshe's feet XD

37. I really don't like the shoulder blades. All the extra joint pieces are cool though. I wonder how well he poses.

38. This is GREAT. But I can't stop imaging wire and cyber parts. He doesn't look a slightest bit human to me. But I like him. Very much. Mr. Dollshe is genious.

39. I smoothed him down and even with my not-so-great photoshop skills I think he looks alot better. Still very thin, but you know, that's okay - it's a look.

40. The neck looks a tad long and the head a little small, I definitely want to see him with a faceup and hair before I could commit to him.

41. He does looks alien but a gorgeous alien that is lol
Being abducted? Fine by me :P just a joke lol
No seriously, I'm sure he's gonna look great once finished, I never like any doll not painted or customized in any way, so I'll try to remain positive...*sigh*

42. +1

I also thought he looks some sort of alien....
I am sure the body will pose really nicely, but the overall looking is just ways over for my taste..:...(

43. Now that he's nearly finished, I like the new body very much. It's strange and too big for the rest of my doll collection, but the design and jointing systems are intriguing. He's not at the top of my wishlist, but I might want one at some point.

44. Now that I look at it more. I think it's that head that looks really alien. The body is skinny and a bit strange but not all that much more so than some other bodies. But that head combigned with the body looks pretty alien.

45. oh, he looks so much better in your photoshopped picture! i wonder if it would be possible then to sand down those ribs and abs.... (probably not in the tan which is what i'd want :sweat )

46. i guess that's an improvement, but he still looks like a giant bug.

47. Does anyone know if they'll still offer the old body style. The new one is nice [with the jointing] but I feel like it takes away from the whole 'ball jointed' part of BJD. D:
I like the original body better.

48. I hope this gorgeous creation is going to be affordable!

I do not think his head is too small at all. I freaking hate big heads so Origins proportions suits me just fine.
And if all those joints are not just for show then... Hodelalli!!!! *fanboy moment* I will totally be bringing this guy home!

Gaaaargh!! I just cannot get over how beautiful he is!

49. I LOL'd when I read this.

My reaction exactly. A big Praying Mantis is what it reminds me of.

I admire his sculpting skills and the thought put into the mechanics but the style does nothing to make me want one.

Ah the good old days of floppy mid sections is starting to look better and better.
I wish I had kept mine now.

and man....all this time waiting and the knee joint still looks too low on the leg to me.

50. =/ His thighs are way too long. Legs in general, actually, and maybe the torso too. The weird thing for me is that his head actually looks fine in relation to his shoulders-- it's everything else that's off.

But.. yeah. I'm interested in seeing how one poses with all those extra joints, and the engineering that probably went into them if they're all functional is pretty impressive, but it just looks too... strange for me to ever want one.

51. I want a tan too and was thinking the same, but if it can't be sanded down the hopefully those "abs" can be filled in a bit (like when people make sleepy versions of open eyed dolls). That or hopefully an optional toned down mid section would be lovely :D

52. My thoughts precisely, and that knee joint....that drives me insane, i have no idea how often I consider actually lengthening the calf of my hound by about 1 CM to try to fix this, and had hoped the new sculpt would, sadly, nope, still disproportionate in my book.

53. I'm wondering if this body is finished... It's almost as if it's missing it's skin ^^;

54. ... oh my. :sweat

Looking at that torso, I'm reminded of the suit Batman wears in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. It looks to me like armor plates instead of musculature. Stylistically not my thing, but that's not enough for me to give it a thumbs-down. I also agree with the alien/cyborg comments, and the criticisms of the proportions of the doll; again, though, maybe not enough for me to pooh-pooh the new sculpt.

What does bother me is his thighs. Way too slender, and bowed to boot. Pretty much everything else I can take as style, but those thighs just look wrong to me.

55. I'm betting that a mesh or thin knit shirt would show off the contours wonderfully, while also toning them down. A muscle shirt, as it were.;) I've got some silk knit stuff that doesn't fit. The turtleneck was like lingerie.

My goodness, but I am theorizing ahead of the potential release date and my bank account.

Ann in CT
still considering

56. ...... yeah. Major mantis-bug reaction over here too. For a specific, nonhuman character, I think he'd be a blast to have. The mechanics make me giddy with anticipation, but the look of his torso is a little much for me.

Ohhh, I bet he poses like a DREAM though!

57. I'm starting to like it xD; but i still love that head *_* i just HOPE they can be taken off of the body D:

58. Ohhh wow.. I had felt there was something wrong with his legs but when you pointed out the knee's I saw it.. D:

I am a big fan of flexability, MNF A-line is my favorite because it can litterally bend anyway you like, but I fear that where the a-line shines this doesnt. I just feel like there is way to many parts here, and all so visable.
As much as I hate to admit it, not buying a Bernard when I had the chance will be my big dolly regret definetly, and thats coming from me who cant really bond with anything bigger then the mnf's.

Ohhh wanted to say though for all its faults, the arms kinda look nice, a tad on the long side but definetly not bad. I am currious to see how the shoulder and elbow joints work cause they seem well made and full of movement.

I do believe he will probably pose like a crazy ninja on fire! If with all those extra joints he still wont pose I will seriously doupt the sanity of it all.

59. OMG
Has anybody an idea about when they will open their site FOR REAL?? ;__________;

60. If he had put the knees where that....weird...joint thing is and that weird joint thing where the knee was, the leg would have looked much better... The odd... '(' and ')' shape of the thighs...um...meh...>< Maybe it could be hidden with pants or perhaps...sanded slightly into a more natural shape? Even filled in with something... But it may ruin the mobility... :?

When everything is smoothed down in Darkmothflame's photoshopped picture, the body isn't AS bad... At least the torso.

I wonder if he made the hands less....club like like the prototype photos Mr. Kim had up... That was yet another thing... The old bodies had such...graceful, beautiful hands. And when the new body's hands were posted from those prototype photos... I was really sad ;_;

EDIT: Mr. Kim is nice....I wonder if we all bat our eyelashes and give puppy faces if he'll decide to still cast and sell the Ver. 2 bodies.... Just switch the head mechanism to match the new one (I'm thinking you should just be able to restring the body with the hook-up for the new heads, like the CP type 2 neck mechanism).
