I purchased a 1/6 doll that was $200 bucks and she was super freaking cute! But her mouse ears and tail didn’t really work because of how heavy they were. So I decided to sand large magnet holes into her lower back and headcap to glue in stronger magnets so they would work with and without clothing and wigs. It was my first mod experience and it was pretty successful and I justified it that it was pretty inexpensive. Never have I ever purchased a doll I didn’t want to buy.
I’ve purchased dolls that I’ve ended up not loving as much as I thought I would but never ended up buying a doll I didn’t want to. The closest I maybe came was buying a full doll with a head I didn’t really want just because I wanted the body Never have I ever owned a pet doll.
I've never owned a pet doll either... in fact, I've permanently banned myself from ever getting any because they are exceedingly cute and lethal temptations. I get the terrible feeling that if I buy one pet doll, I'll be opening up a Pandora's box and end up with a horde of them and never play with my beloved 1/3 dolls anymore. So I'm not gonna tempt fate! Never have I ever used a doll stand.
I'm using a doll stand for my old Lati Green Coco who has weak ankles (restringing might help) because I like to display her standing. Never have I ever bought clothes for my dolls besides those that have sometimes come with full sets.
I've bought doll clothes here and there. Hmm... Let's think of something... Never have I ever loved a hardcap wig
I had one hardcap wig but I didn’t love it… Monique wigs are my favorite wigs by far, nearly all my dolls have their wigs and I sort of collect them! Never have I ever dyed a doll.
I have! I gifted my sister two pukifees so far. She's always liked baby dolls Never have I ever made my own doll eyes.
I never sanded a doll to change their features, but did little mini mods like boiling the hands to change the position of their fingers, reduced nipple size and little bits like that. Never have I ever owned a fantasy doll (fairy, centaur etc)
I have a few elves and vampires here but I’ve never owned a doll with other fantasy parts like a centaur body, mermaid tail etc Never have I ever given a doll a tattoo
I've never bought a doll over 12 inches, to be honest. Never have I ever bought an anthropomorphic animal doll.
I have! Just once, a Dearmine Classic Lupin and zero regrets. This cute little bat stole my heart from the start. Never have I ever owned a doll with... special parts, if you know what I mean xD
I have a doll with “special parts” Wolf, my Dollshe Grown Bermann. What a pain. It’s not squishy, whirls all over the place. Probably should glue suede it but I haven’t had time. Finding pants is difficult. Yeah, I could swap out for the cover, but I don’t want to emasculate him. Never have I ever commissioned a faceup.
Neither have I. Feels like a gamble. I also feel the faceups I do have taken on a certain 'look' (for better or worse lol) and at this point a doll done by somebody else probably wouldn't blend in. Never have I ever bought another of a sculpt I previously sold.
I've bought a same-ish sculpt of a doll I already own but never of a doll I've previously sold. Never have I ever bought a doll on layaway/too expensive to pay in full.
I have two layaways – one finished one from Loongsoul and one in progress from Dollzone, both because the expected wait times were around 6 months anyway. Never have I ever had a doll draw blood from me during restringing...
I have. Very painful. It was who I expected though. She used to flip me off every time she came out of her bag (jointed hands). If I remember right, her s hook caught under my nail? No permanent damage, just blood. Never have I ever stained my doll.
Technically the stains were soot from a housefire (everyone was fine!) but she was indisputably stained. Never have I ever made doll shoes.
Neither have I! I really want to try, though! Never have I ever tried to make wigs. Is that really hard???
I've attempted a doll wig once so far, but I didn't like the end result...that just means I need to try again! It's one of my goals to be able to make my own doll wigs. Never have I ever bought a doll, but then lose interest in it when I received it in person...(definitely one of my fears!)
^that has definitely happened to me. Well more like they really did not match my expectations and I tried very hard to make it work but probably I could have saved myself the energy with my heart not being in it. Hm, never have I ever had a lace front wig for a doll! (I know they've become quite popular)
Neither have I! I think at my preferred scale the lace would be too visible for me to fully enjoy the look, though. Never have I ever tried out jointed hands.
^I have! But I really don't enjoy them. Never have I ever had a doll with exchangeable penis parts (Ok I'll leave now)
^ Neither have I, but I've always kind of wanted one because they make me laugh. Never have I ever.... done a faceup (thankfully, my friend is awesome at it).
Neither have I! But there are so many amazing artists in this community that I've never felt disappointed with their work. Never have I ever bought the same doll item (clothes, props...) twice so I could have it in other color.
I have for shoes! If I really like a pair I usually buy more than one color for different outfits! Never have I ever used the same head on more than one body...yet.
I have, my DollGa Noella tried out a couple of bodies before she found one! Never have I ever taken an actually GOOD photo of a doll. I'm a terrible photographer.
I have taken good photos (I hope ) Though there is always place for improvement. Never have I ever had a doll near me and uncovered (on an open shelf, table or otherwise on display) for more than several hours. They inhabit a closed bookcase and boxes and show themselves only when it is play or craft time.
My crew are free range! I like posing them around my home and generally leave them where I last played with them - this gives me the most hobby enjoyment. It helps that I live by myself and have no pets, so the dolls don't get in the way and stay put where I left them. On that note... never have I ever stored my dolls in a cabinet.
Me neither. I also live on my own and don't have any free-roaming pets, so they get to just hand out wherever. My first girl, Fawn, is currently sitting on the computer desk next to my keyboard, probably judging me for not getting up and doing the dishes I said I was going to do twenty minutes ago. But never have I ever ordered anything from Taobao. I wouldn't even know where to begin.
Neither have I. I have purchased from a few Taobao resellers, though. I did the math and with shopping services and all that it worked out to about the same cost and a lot less hassle. Never have I ever felt a BJD was complete. There is always thing to add and improve.
I don't count clothes/wigs towards completeness because I like changing them but I do count all of mine who are on bodies I like with eyes and faceups I like "complete". Never have I ever travelled out of town with a doll.
I take mine everywhere, and I've taken mine overseas, on 10km hikes and in caves! Never have I ever bought a doll stand.
i've also never bought a doll stand! even for the dolls i had as a kid never have i ever made my own wig! i've been tempted with aome left over yarn lately…but not yet
I've made my own wigs, they are okay, but I much prefer to by them. Never have I ever, been to a doll meet. I'd really like to but the closest one that happens regularly is over three hours away.
I used to regularly go to doll meets, and I’d like to start doing so again once my group gets less busy! Never have I ever taken a doll to another country?
I've never taken my dolls to another country, but I have taken them to another state when I went to college. I've never actually been outside of the country at all! Never have I ever bought the same sculpt twice. (I have considered it though!)
Gestures to the Twigling horde… we have 5 ingenues, one SP Ingenue, and 2 more heads that aren’t yet characters. We have 5 gamines as well, but one of them was a gift from the artist, so really I can only be blamed for 4 . I also have two Eloy’s, and a third that is the smaller Eloy renewal head. The only non-Twigling that I have a duplicate of is MDR Zuri, but the characters are twins, so that’s fine, right? Never have I ever bought clothes for a doll I didn’t yet have.
Haha, I have. I've also sewn for dolls I don't have. But, they are dolls I am planning on getting. I just want them to have clothes for when they arrive. I also have an unused outfit, wig, shoes, and all wrapped up for an eventual and last msd boy doll. I haven't even decided on him who I will eventually get. But everything is waiting for him. Never have I ever successfully made a BJD wig. I have a whole lot of failed attempts, but apparently I am bad at making BJD wigs.
Oooooh! I have!!! My successful wigs are all yarn wigs. I have some okay angora wigs with bad parting lines, and I made an epic fail wig out of frayed ribbon because I thought it would be cool. It matted into fluffy, human finger sized dreadlocks, that also lost their colour and ended up whiteish. And if you tired to break it up into even more doll-sized locs, you absolutely could not. The fluffy stuff could not be tamed. Never have I ever bought a doll so I could use an accessory I had (a wig, eyes, a prop, an outfit, anything like that)
Oh, I've partially done that. I have a beautiful little 1/4-size bicycle that I'd love to give to a doll, but I haven't found one in the perfect scale yet. I purchased a Minifee (I later sold it) in part because I wanted to see that size next to the bicycle (and I also just wanted to see one in person). I don't know if that counts! Never have I ever taken a commission related to dolls (no faceups, sewing, etc. - although I take commissions as an artist and embroider, so I may do something doll-related in the future!)
I've done that! Back in 2016 or so my mum and I started making and selling simple little patterned quilts, pillows and cushions doll-sized and we got to do a custom one with a dog face that was absolutely cute! Never have I ever punished a doll for misbehaving (for example, for pinching me with its joints) by keeping it in its box for a while.
I haven't done that, but I have verbally scolded a doll before for misbehaving. She kicked my light over while I was restringing her! Never have I ever modified a doll by replacing their arms or legs with another company's limbs.
Just recently did I start doing this. I added extensions to the legs of Damian (Resinsoul Gang) I added 1cm to his ankles and 1.5cm to his upper thigh, he now stands just above 62cm which is the height I wanted to get him to. It worked out so well, I am going to want to do more on other dolls as well. So many possibilities. Never have I ever put a doll on a long layaway. (I've paid to have a doll held for a week, but that's about it.)
How long is long? I have a 6 month layaway right now, but my longest was a 10 month layaway for a doll who was super outside my budget, that I just desperately wanted bring him home (I was in High School, working 16 hours a week). Ironically I sold him about 4 years later. Also Oh my godddd congrats on the mod being successful! I'm so glad you took the plunge and tried it out!!!!! never have I ever modeled a doll to look like a celebrity, or a musician, or any other "real" person.
Nope, never. I like my dolls to my original characters, even if I based my initial story off of a manga, it was only the storyline. All the characters and names are very unique to me. Thank you! That was such an excellent idea that you gave me. I am going to want to experiment a lot more with additive mods. I've done subtractive modding before, but this was the first time ever adding to a doll. Never Have I Ever... stored a doll in a box. (All my dolls are always on display.)
I have, but I only do it with dolls sold on layaway! That way I don’t get tempted to keep them around. I currently have one doll and one body boxed up like this. But dolls I’m keeping, big nope, despite the sheer numbers of them, and the tiny room I live in, everyone is on display. You will see how bonkers this is if you look at the length of the doll list on my profile. That’s so cool!! I got into additive mods before subtractive mods, because I could buy apoxie more easily than I could figure out cutting resin (granted, some subtractive mods are minor sanding, and that would have been easy-ish.) I have plans for a lot more additive and subtractive mods, because I can’t keep my hands (and my dremel and my apoxie) off my dolls. your next doll mod goes flawlessly. When people look at your doll, they assume it came that way—was it an additive, or a subtractive mod?
I've never done a mod on any doll, and have no interest in doing so. But years ago I did commission a modder to do a breast reduction on a female body that didn't have a bust option. I think it was well done and I love that my girl is flat-chested now, but when I look at it it's definitely a mod. Never have I gotten a doll to stand on one foot. It's true! I love posing my dolls and I can get all of them to balance on one foot with the other in tiptoe, but I've never succeeded in completely standing any of them on one foot ... yet! Tell me the secret to doing this please XD
I got Michi to stand on one foot in a specific pair of shoes! Her legs are wired, though, so maybe that helped. Never have I ever ventured out of 1/4 scale.
I have just a few times! I have two vinyl 1/6 dolls, and one resin SD. I'm waiting on a body for a second SD, but MSD is definitely the scale I feel most comfortable with! Never have I ever coordinated an outfit with a doll.
I have matching t-shirts if that counts? American girl sells girl and doll clothes that match and I got me and my Smart Doll Amity, who goes on vacation with the family, a matching shirt. Never have I ever submerged a doll in water for a photograph.
Never have but I did take pictures of a doll behind a glass of water to try and get a neat effect. It wasn’t super successful but I enjoyed trying. Never have I ever made eyes for my dolls.
Not really unless you count painting green and black on two white beads for temporary eyes? I bought a faceplate to try my hand at an eye opening mod, succeeded, then realise I didn't have eyes for the small eye openings I've modded when I wanted to take photos... but I did have beads for making jewelry so... xD Never have I ever won a doll (head/full) from a doll event's lottery.
I have never won a doll, but I did win an outfit once. I think it was partially a thank you, because I was the only person that whispered the host to tell them the link to their shop was broken after a bunch of people had already entered the giveaway and never even bothered to click the link and look at the doll clothing shop. The other two winners were probably chosen by a draw. No person that won was famous. I like that. I like to see non famous people win in giveaways. Never have I ever went on a vacation with a resin BJD.
I've taken my dolls on vacations. 2 have already gone on flights (one of them was overseas), 2 on driving road trips, and I'm planning to bring another one on a trip later this year. I've enjoyed it so far and the doll photography has yielded wonderful pics (especially the road trips). I want to keep doing it! Never have I bought a doll in person from the seller.
Ooooo I have!!! There’s another local doll person I’ve bought from in person before—she met me at a mall, and I sent her the money f&f cause I got to look at the doll before I took her home. Really nice sale—I don’t still have the doll, but I’d buy from her again!! Never have I ever bought an outfit for a doll I hadn’t yet ordered.
I've never either aha Almost did- but I kept finding inconsistent measurements for the dolls so I didn't want to risk getting the wrong size. Never have I ever unstrung any dolls larger than yosd sized! I have three msd's and it's been incredibly intimidating thinking about restringing them- never mind I've dismantled and frankensteined smaller dolls dozens of times.
I don't have anything smaller than msd and I've restrung almost all of them. I even took my first doll apart straight from the box since most of my collection is second hand, it's usually necessary maintenance and I've never really seen unstringing dolls as an intimidating thing. Never have I ever told about my dolls to anyone I don't live with.
