Hi all! ^^ New to the thread and very, very sad to have missed my chance at the newest iMda Sara. I learned about the 5.2 Imda dolls while she was on sale and didn't know enough about the maker to order right away. Now, after a couple of weeks of stalking the website I am totally in love with Monika, Sara, as well as so many iMda tinies! Can't believe I missed my chance at such a beautiful sculpt. I will proceed to go through this entire thread now~ ^^ And hopefully, I will one day become the owner of one of these beauties. Has anyone ordered Sara (or even, won the lottery to the one-off Sara?) Anyone willing to spam me some pictures of their iMdas? ^^ See you around!
Here's another pic of my girl . I've seen a custom imda Monika on the marketplace if you are really looking for one~
Your girl is absolutely gorgeous @marci12! And yes, I did see that baby girl on the marketplace and I am eyeing her really hard. It's especially hard on me since the Canadian dollar value is extra low at the moment... But I am crossing my fingers! She's a beautiful Monika custom; very much my type. I love the pouty look of your girl, and her red-wig is perfect on her. Thanks for the beautiful picture! ^^
I hope you will find your perfect iMda girl (or boy) soon, @Dayme ! :-) These infrequent releases are keeping me on my toes. I was on the fence about both 5.2 Sara and 2.2 Amellia. I have decided to wait for a 3.0 because I think it's a good size. Am keeping my fingers crossed that the next one will be a sculpt that I like. Well, based on my stalking of aicoda on instagram, quite a few of the sculpts will fit the bill. Omg that Monika looks wonderful! I'm tempted. Is it just me, or are iMdas generally are hard to find on the 2nd hand market?
Just realised the Monika's been on sale for quite some time! I didn't find her earlier when I searched for imdas. DoA confuses me sometimes ;-)
The new board is harder to search. I find I need to search within the right forum to get good results.
Is that instagram you linked that of the official sculptor for iMda dolls, @eva_h? I'm seeing a mixture of Switch, Volks, and iMdas on there. So lovely. That Monika is gorgeous, isn't she. I'm surprised she's been on the marketplace for so long. And as Nancy said, I usually go into the "large dolls" marketplace forum before searching for anything. I get better results that way.
@Dayme She designs and sews clothes, and she's a faceup and wig artist. She has done a few collabs with iMda. Her designer name is Camellia. Here she is on Flickr, too Thank you for the advice on searching, @Dayme and @nancy_schroeder_ca :-)
@eva_h Thank you for the link! I'm following her right away. (I also followed your Flickr; lovely pictures by the way.) There are quite a few 3.0 iMdas on the marketplace. Not so many 5.2s. Same with Flickr pictures; not so many owner pictures of the SD iMdas. As you said earlier, 3.0 and 5.2 are the better sizes for me. My all time favourite is Mabelle but I'm starting to think they'll never rerelease her. We have good chances Sara will be rereleased, since all the other 5.2 sculpts have multiple selling periods. Let's cross our fingers~
Hi guys, iMda just announced a new 3.0 on Instagram, a limited edition of 3. I'm hope they will also offer a blank version. Looks like this might be the one for me. (my first iMda)
Thanks for the heads up! She looks very cute, can't wait to see more pictures. I hope the limited edition is only for the fullset; good luck on getting her @eva_h!
Thanks @Dayme ! :-) @nancy_schroeder_ca I noticed! I was going to claim that Nicole isn't a boy name, but google tells me otherwise. Is there much difference between the girl and boy bodies?
There's very little difference. There are picture on Gian's listing the SOOM emporium and the 2.6 body listings. There is a 3.0 discussion here: IMda Modigli 30.5cm discussion part 2
Thanks @nancy_schroeder_ca :-D It's hardly noticeable - makes me wonder why they have two different bodies at all.
Hey all! ^^ The past month I've been working on a new project; customizing my new iMDA Monika I got from the marketplace! She's a gorgeous sculpt and I'm really in love with her right now. Last weekend I went to a meetup and I was lucky enough to get her some shoes and eyes; her look is pretty much finished for now. Here is my Romy! ^^
Thank you @eva_h! She does have a very sad expression. The sewing machine was a prop from the meetup location! ^^
@pixidance, She is adorable! She looks a bit worried. Maybe she's wondering how much you will show when she doesn't have clothes. I like the green eye, but I frequently favor green eyes!
@pixidance Thank you! ^^ And your Sophia is adorable~ I love her lips What eye size is your girl wearing?
Thank you I believe these are 18mm I made her an outfit yesterday. She now has bloomers, socks, a dress and a pinafore. ldoll by pixidance, on Flickr
Oh she is so pretty! I m recently thinking of Imda 5.2 Can anyone advise me how their body size compare to other dolls? Like what doll size clothes does 5.2 wear? Many thanks!
O Oh I m as regretted! I saw Sara was for up last yr I didn't like that they don't offer makeup option and so have not ordered her I just realized that it seems 5.2 only release once a year and with a different sculpt! I hope the next sculpt is sth I like! @_@
Hey all! Just a heads up; it seems like iMda will be selling all their 5.2 models from June 8th to 21st. I'm not sure about this, I was just browsing the site today and spotted the "YC (your choice)" option popped up on the main page. Anyone thinking of getting one of the girls? :3
Anyone have one what do you think of the 5.2 body? from what I see they created on body the first one and it was not very good at sitting up without falling back? or standing? and they never improved the body is that correct for the later dolls sold? It would be very cool to have a your choice if they have all past molds! looks like five types including Sara. The body puts me off a bit. Also can the 5.2 wear normal SD clothing? I would like a doll that can at least sit up ? No Laureen.
@TreeLore the 5.2 body is shaky and unstable. It doesn't stand very well, nor does it sit very well. My girl cannot sit up straight without falling back or forward, and standing is just as stressful although she does stand with a lot of patience and fiddling with the knee/hips joints extensively. Although the body is quite beautiful it was very poorly engineered. I thought of restringing her more tightly but that's a whole other story. Nonetheless, I don't think it would be possible to hybrid the iMda girls with any other body because they are extremely unique/the proportions are hard to match with any other BJD maker. Although I'm sure some people have been successful (I spotted a Doll Chateau hybrid on flickr). The 5.2s are a really unique size as well, right in between SD and MSD! Finding shoes for my girl was difficult but not impossible; and for clothing, I ended up custom making her entire outfit because I was too nervous to order anything online. These dolls are definitely a challenge meant for the crafty/courageous collector! But they are a joy to own. Any other owner's opinions?
I've never restrung my 5.2 Monika and she stands and sits very well--no falling over for my girl at any rate. She is single-jointed though, so you'll in no way have the same range of motion as with some other dolls. But I find her to be unique and great for those not looking for a lot of posing. More pics of her are in my Flickr folder of her if you want to see more.
Thanks for the heads-up @Dayme! I have sort of decided to stay away from anything larger than MSD but it's interesting to see that they're doing a "Your choice" release. I wonder if they need to do this to get a large enough volume on the order. Anyway: With my self-imposed MSD max limit I am very excited about my incoming 4.3. I know at least one person received hers; did anybody else? I don't have my shipping notice yet. Would love to see some photos :-D
@marci12 Wow is your Monika really able to sit? I wonder what happened to mine... Did you get her straight from iMda or secondhand? Mine was secondhand and I keep thinking maybe she's way more loose than she's suppose to... Maybe I should try to restring her when I get the chance. @eva_h Oh did you get the 4.3 Manon? How exciting! I am so late to the party in knowing that iMda made an MSD. But I'm not sure people can post their MSD photos on here; would probably have to make a new MSD thread in the mini doll discussion forum. Probably doesn't exist yet.
Hi, no, I ordered Monika directly from iMda. She's not loose at all, and yep, sits and stands just fine. I only use a stand because I prefer it for all my dolls if they aren't sitting/laying for safety . Yeah...you may want to try restringing yours then.
Thanks @Dayme and @nancy_schroeder_ca ! I forgot this is the large dolls section. @Dayme: Best of luck with the restringing, I hope it will have the desired effect!
The return 5.2s have been release for sale! Also, I really don't remember. If your order is "Before Shipping" is that any indication it's close to shipping, or does that just mean any time before it's shipped? And, if you did layaway, do they still start preparing the doll when you make the first payment, or only after all payments are completed? Thanks!
"Before Shipping" simply means the order is fully paid. It's best to assume they start making your doll when it is fully paid. They order resin in batches, so sometimes they already have the resin in-stock or on-order and then it's quicker
Thanks! Aww...just finished paying off my layaway. So, probably another few months before I get Manon then....But fingers crossed it's sooner, lol!
Not me this time, I have A Natassa with a face up and a Laureen head with a face up, and two girls with out face ups. I don't need another girl who needs a face up! I am very glad I got the Laureen head!
I'm late checking this thread but wanted to comment on the posing and clothes -- My iMda girl sits and stands (with a stand and even without for a pic) and I think she's quite graceful looking. I have a kip in her neck to help hold her head in position, which make a huge difference. That said, she's not a doll who can do extensive posing, but she sits and stands. Clothes -- Clothes (and patterns) for the Dollstown elf and Kaye Wiggs Nelly bodies seem to work well, though you have to watch out for the sleeves. the iMda has longer arms.
Does anyone have a picture of Sara? I would love to see an owner picture of the doll. I think the sculpt is beautiful. Of course I didn't see the ordering notice until today.
So pretty!! I love the custom clothes, it's in my favorite style and so far I've only seen them done by Japanese seamstresses. Where did you order the wig? It fits the 5.2 so well! I'm thinking of ordering a 5.2 myself secondhand, either Sara, Monika or Sophia. I heard that they're releasing a Sophia (boy ver.) in 4.3 next year so maybe I'll skip her 5.2... Now it's down to Sara or Monika, hard to decide, they're both so lovely
Thank you! And I totally agree; I've only seen that level of detailed creativity and seam work in Japanese artists... The blue wig is a Lullaby Poem wig . And yay, can't wait to see a bigger sized boy!
Does anyone else have problems with the 5.2 body? I cant get it to pose, its very floppy and I'm just not sure what to do with it..... any suggestions?
Hi . My 5.2 came well strung, but I know others have mentioned floppiness in the older 5.2s--I haven't heard anything with the newer releases: Monika, Sara, Sophia, or Agatha. Is yours a newer release? I know others have mentioned restringing and/or sueding.
Mine is brand new from the last release. Its just very hard to pose... wondering if I am just used to volks
I'll definitely say the 5.2 is my worst overall poser! There's a clear difference between her single-jointing and even my newer 4.2 Manon, let alone my other dolls from other companies that are double jointed. I was surprised by how well and how much better my 4.2 posed than my 5.2 when I got her. The 5.2 doesn't have groves that help the arms and legs click into positions that help with posing like the 4.2. But I still love my 5.2; Monika just isn't super versatile, and it seems yours is the same as far as I can tell, lol. But sueding or restring might definitely help with creating more tension for your girl .
I have been reading here on D.O.A. some older posts about how the imda 5.2 dolls will not pose well, how loose the stringing is and how they are hard to get to sit down. The posts I read are from 2011. I am thinking of getting one of these girls whenever they come out again. Are they better now?
My stringing i would say is a little loose, but the body itself is hard to work with. I received agathe from the last current release. It is floppy, the legs and hips twist all over the place and doesn't stand up well. I haven't sueded it or anything as I've been waiting for Agathe's head to return home, but its not my favorite body I own... prob the hardest body to pose that i currently have.... Speaking of Agathe, here is a pic from Eludy's.... Pics to come once i receive her home. Here she is ... arrived home today
What a beautiful girl and the dress is so romantic looking! I am disappointed that Soom has not improved these dolls!
A kip is a silicone disk. Volks named them kips for Keep In Place. They used to be available from a number of places. Here are some at Volks: Advanced search :: Search results Alice's Collections calls them rubber joint pads! Other : Alice's Collections
This size for IMDA is my next project! I bought a blank girl. Anyone have advice on clothing for them?
