Had a sewing jam with a friend and tested out some patterns from the first official GSC book! Still need to finish the bottom hem, but the kimono pattern was easy to follow and came out really cutely. I have the second book preordered and will probably get the third as well for all the holiday outfits.
@Autumnfallen very cute! We’re the patterns easy to follow? Your Kimono is perfect. The pattern is really nice too. I will have to check out those books!
Thank you! My friend had some nice fabric with smaller-scaled prints and patterns so I got lucky there. I think the book assumes you already have some sewing experience so there may be a learning curve for total beginners, but each step is shown and they generally aren't hard to follow. My main gripe is that some bits are tough to see because a number of photos use white fabric on a light yellow backdrop.
I got tired of futzing around and bought the book too. It's on its way to my place right now. It should be waiting for me by the time I get back from my parents.
The Chibi Chop Shop just got the almond bodies in stock and now I am sorely tempted to get that and yet another cinnamon body to make two more characters. Bad self! Don't do it!
My Nendoroid Doll collections just keeps growing! Now that I've gotten the idea to add girls with animal ears, ha ha. I found some pretty floral fabrics to sew more Yukatas. Two of the girls still need bodies, which I will be getting soon. Sewing for the girls by SD Hampton, on Flickr The Chibi Chop Shop is just too much fun! I need to limit my visit to once a month.
Nice fabric, the patterns are small and cute. I have too many of these little critters running around also. I need to cut back on the figures, they are cutting into my BJD space and they .
We don't have Walmart here unfortunately. Off to Spotlight for me I guess. Perhaps they'll have some smaller prints in the quilting section...
Yeah, quilting material is a great source for small prints. I haven't completed a single garment from the book of patterns I bought I need to get to work. I have undressed Nendo dolls and all my BJDs are clothed.
Do share with us when you start! I've started a little project. Fiance loves my little custom Nendo so much that I've decided to make him one of his own. Good Smile has put the female body in Cream back on preorder so I've jumping in and snagging one for him. I'll keep an eye out on Chibi Chop Shop and a few other places to see if the right face plates and hair pop up while I wait for the body.
Can any of you experienced Nendoroid owners please tell me how to tell what color one of these little guys is? Does it say somewhere on the box, or is there a chart somewhere? I like the outfit on one that I am eyeing, but I'd like to buy a new body for him so that he can wear cloth clothing, too.
@celga from my own personal experience, I prefer the cream colored body as it matches most of the face plates the closest. I have not seen the almond milk in person, and the peach color can be used, but it is darker than most of the face plates. I have a few of the peach color and if you have the right clothes, it isn’t as noticeable. None of the Nendoroid bodies match the Nendoroid face plates perfectly, which is odd as they are made by the same company. I hope this helps! Edited to add that The Chibi Chop Shop has some Nendoroid boy bodies in stock, and I’ve found some sold on Amazon by The Good Smile Company, but they are a little more than pre order cost.
Thank you, then I will go for the cream! Other than impatience, is there any reason not to preorder directly from Good Smile US?
Hey all, I've been wanting to make a Nendoroid Doll (or Obitsuroid) of one of my favorite characters, Mabel Pines from Gravity Falls, after seeing one user on Instagram's amazing fandom dolls of Chara and Frisk from Undertale. The problem is I'm not sure where to find a proper hair piece or if I'm better off trying to get one sculpted somehow. I imagine it's easier to browse chibi chop shop if you don't have a specific character in mind, but I can't even find an official Nendoroid with the kind of hair I need. However, there are a lot of them to look through, and I could see if I could find one with the right hair shape to paint... but seriously, for anyone who's had a specific look in mind, is it better to look for parts or a specific Nendo with the right looks if it's affordable enough, or is it more likely that I'll have to find something custom? I'm completely new to this and the selection is overwhelming, so if there is some general knowledge or advice I'm missing, I'd love to hear it. BTW, the Insta user with the Undertale dolls is @kamiiiedolls • Instagram photos and videos
I have the boy bodies in all 3 colors and for my collection, almond milk has been a better match overall. Peach is quite dark and orange-toned in person while cream is a tad too pink-toned. Like kurogane said, none of the colors have been as good a match as one would hope. I can take comparison photos if anyone’s interested. @Cattya: GSC has an image gallery of all nendos here: Nendoroid Listing: #1201 ~ #1300 | GOOD SMILE COMPANY. You can browse them 100 at a time by going to the Sort By: Nendoroid Number dropdown to the left. I skimmed through them just out of curiosity and there actually weren't many with a clear part to their right like Mabel's. The ones that looked the best to me were #337 Irine, #757 Mei, and #1115 Kizuna AI. Kizuna was the only one with parts currently available on the chop shop though.
I just couldn’t stop myself from doing some anxiety buying and got a couple more girls from Chibi Chop Shop. I’m up to six now. They are just so darn adorable and make me happy when I see them. So that means two more yukatas to sew. Yay, for projects!
Well there could be worse things to spend your money on! They are super cute. I've been keeping my little Monster on my bedside table and he's been very comforting.
I've been unusually financially stable, and without much else to do I've been fussing over my Nendos. I broke my promise like I kind of knew I would and started buying parts for the last two characters I want to shell. Have you seen the new Man and Woman body? The former is perfect for one of them. But he needs slicked back hair, so I've been stalking CCS. Also, I've been buying clothes. And one guitar. One Nendo (the main character) has only shoes, and the others have shorts. I just made them the shirt equivalent of a sack dress, but they are clothed. Well, except for the spoilt main, who requires a suit, but he has many clothes incoming that "will do". That reminds me, the newbies will need clothes, if I ever get the chance to get all the parts together. Should I even bother to buy now? Decisions, decisions...
@iamkathybrown nice that you’ve had the time (and finances) to work on your Nendo crew. I’ve noticed there are a lot more choices for clothing lately. Hope you can find the hair piece you are looking for. CCP stuff goes quickly!
Yay!! Good Smile Shop has reopened preorders for their blank heads and I snagged two. One for me to play with, and the other to turn into a (very late) gift for a friend. Hopefully they resume shipping to Australia soon. They have the Nendo body I order for the same project. Plus I'm waiting on a few other things from Japan to come through.
Welp, they aren't perfect (I need to redo those crappy fabric glue tank tops) but they finally look like their characters, correct hair colors and all. Hopefully their hair doesn't stain again, I was unable to fully remove the last stains. Next stop, shoes! If I can find/make what I need in the right size...
Aww, they all look so cute! I got an email last week saying that Good Smile was going to go ahead and post the orders they couldn't post due to restrictions with their normal shipping carrier. So fingers crossed I get my confirmation notice soon!
Looking great! I need to take more photos of my little crew too. Picco Neemo shoes fit them if you are wanting ideas.
Newbie Nendo owner here (sort of). I just got the two Nendo boys I preordered and I want to kitbash them. I was hoping to use something bigger than the Obitsu 11. Has anyone seen people hybriding them onto other body types? I'm wondering if anyone has used Pure Neemo or something similar? Or am I going off into weird territory?
I have seen Nendoroid heads on PiccoNeemo, but don't know if they'll fit on PureNeemo bodies as well. I own a few of character Nendoroids and a few of the blank head, but I haven't unboxed any (I'm a weirdo). Here's a photo of a few character Nendoroid heads on a few different bodies, including a Volks CFK body. Hope it helps. (:
I too have seen a Nendoroid Azone PureNeemo hybrid while doing a ‘custom Nendoroid doll’ search. The head attachments are completely different for the Nendoroid and the Azone. The Nendoroid has a tiny peg with a ball joint at the neck, while Azone has a triangular shaped peg that is pushed into the Azone vinyl heads. I think it is possible...but a lot of work. Probably why there aren’t very many.
I need to fill the holes in Inuyasha's head, to make his human version. I will be painting his hair black. Anyone have a suggestion on what to use, or want me to experiment with? I have paperclay, Apoxy, UV resin, and regular resin. I suppose I could try to make pegs with Sculpy and bake it before using it on the head. I'll need to sand whatever I use anyway. Inuyasha ears removed by SteamWitch, on Flickr
@SteamWitch I personally would use the Apoxie just to save some finishing steps (no shrinking, cracking, and non porous so it will take paint about the same as the hair’s plastic). Technically all your items work, it just depends on what you are most comfortable with. I, personally have not great results with resin, lol. I’ve painted some Nendoroid hair with spray paint and it worked wonderfully!
I used the brown Apoxie sculpt I had.I sanded it down a bit then painted it and sanded it again until it was smooth. It turned out well. Nendo Inuyasha mod to human by SteamWitch, on Flickr Nendo Inuyasha mod to human by SteamWitch, on Flickr
Anyone else have any of the Harry Potter Nendoroid dolls? I just got Hermione and think she's adorable. I'm guessing the regular Nendoroid face plates will fit on the doll bodies? I have regular Hermione as well, but haven't tried using her face plates on doll Hermione. Cloth Clothes by wizgerg3, on Flickr
I bought the regular Harry Potter Nendos for my granddaughter. But I have used the regular Nendo heads on my nendo dolls. She is really adorable!
Say... Does anyone here have both a cinnamon Nendo and Island Doll tan? I just bought a head in GSC cinnamon and I want to make a hybrid, but I am not sure if the tan is too dark.
Welp, I finally gave up. I bought a whole expensive fullset just to finally get the hair I want. Hopefully I can sell the rest to CCS.
@iamkathybrown I’ve resorted to doing that. Just for the hair... I’d love to see your Nendoroid doll once you get it finished and I will share mine.
I'm happy with my Nendos the way they are, but that's mainly because mine are limited editions: the deluxe versions of Majora's Mask Link and Wonder Woman. I also have an off-brand figure that looks like a Nendo; it's an Asuna from Sword Art Online with a talking base. (Season 1 Asuna, when she was still an interesting character.)
I finally ordered my first actual Nendoroid Dolls as opposed to regular nendos, but I just could not resist my Scum Villain Self Saving System boys. Luo Binghe comes with a way too cute crying faceplate. For people that do customs, I have a hair piece I need to take from blonde to black. I have the black Tamiya Color for Plastics spray paint. Would you still put down a layer of primer before using it?
@Kim that’s an interesting question. I would think going from blond to black wouldn’t need a primer, as it’s easier to go darker than lighter, but I guess it depends if you want to play it safe and use a primer to guarantee an even color. I had a black hair piece I needed to go white, so I used 100% acetone nail polish remover and it took the Nendoroid paint off easily. The hair base color was skin tone and I used white spray paint over it and it only took a couple light coats to cover.
@Kim I used regular acrylic paint on my Inuyasha to make his white hair black. I used several thin layers to hide most of the brush strokes but if you're spraying it there is no need to prime it first
I suddenly got a strong hankering for a tiny Deku and found one still in stock. Now I want to get him every body, including hopefully a school uniform someday. Or maybe just a doll body??? And now I want Aizawa as well. Send help, lol.
@iamkathybrown I have a Deku, I can say he’s worth it, and extra cute as a Nendoroid doll. So, yeah, no help from me either!
These little guys are a hole with no bottom... *laughing* After a good year of waffling, I finally got around to ordering a doll body for my one and only nendo. (L has been hanging around on my office bookshelf for quite a few years now, keeping a suspicious eye on the other residents... Two POPs, a soot sprite, a LEGO Yellow Submarine, a Doctor Doom minifig and a die-cast tachikoma- ) ... Which lead to my finding and buying the pattern books, 'cause dude's gotta have his floppy white shirt and jeans, right? ... Which lead to my looking at GSC's site, just out of pure "I wonder what else they've done since 2009?"-curiosity. ... And now I'm waiting on a pre-order. Because Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe were both adorable.
Oh wow I didn't know there was a Nendoroid thread here!! I just got my first one to tide me over until my BJDs come in lol I got an Osamu Dazai doll and immediately did a lil photoshoot with him here. Now I want to get his regular Nendoroid figure so I can switch out his faceplates for photos lol
@CranberriArts Dazai is a great character, whether you watch the anime or not, but watching his antics is enjoyable. I fought long and hard not to get one, so far my other boys are keeping me busy and broke.
@SteamWitch Lol I feel that Bungo Stray Dogs is on the list of anime I want to watch but just never have the time for. I used to be big into it but now I'm just on the sidelines these days lol. Dazai might be the only Nendoroid doll I get, unless and only unless, they release a Link or Zelda Nendoroid Doll. I've debated on getting their regular Nendoroids cuz they're so cute, but I'm happy with lil' Dazai for now
