Narae/Narin 43/44cm Mini Discussion Part 7

Apr 9, 2018

    1. @malvinas wow, I'm in love with her makeup details!

    2. I managed to snag the Narin 45 boy and I'm crying. I had been stalking him since August and I couldn't stop thinking about it, and it actually happened. It will be my first Bimong. I planned on trying to put a minifee boy head on it, but it might be too big xD Either way, I love him. and I have no idea what fits lol.

    3. Congratulations! I love Bimong's dolls!

    4. Lucky you. He's a handsome fellow and I hope he gets to you safely and quickly.

I'm in a bit of a quandary. I love the 38cm fusion body and the 38cm Chuu's are still in stock in the colour I want but I'm not super into the face sculpt. I don't know when the next lot of 38cm fusion Narae - which is the headsculpt I do want - will come out. So do I wait or do I get the set with a headsculpt I don't care for and just sell that?

    5. Why not DM Bimong on Instagram? He might even have a Narae head or could tell you when he'll release on with a Narae head.

    6. I don't really Instagram so I didn't know I could do that

    7. I don't post on Instagram. I follow a number of artists and use the DM feature.

    8. Most of my bimong dolls were purchased from him via Instagram DM. I've contacted him on a few occasions asking when a specific doll or part will be in stock and almost every time he says something along the lines of "hold on let me check" and a few minutes later I get a list of what options he has available. That doesn't ALWAYS work. Sometimes he doesn't have what I ask about available but 3 out of 4 times he has. He's super friendly always though!

    9. Hello! I wasn't able to locate this information so I was hoping someone reading this forum might know. Does Dollzone's pink or pink white match (or semi-match) Bimong's New Normal or Classic Normal resin? I have some Narae heads and I'm trying to obtain bodies for them. Minifee and Luts Normal resins are yellow based but Bimong's resin is more pink based. I was hoping to find bodies that leaned more pink. Thanks for your time!

    10. Supia normal is a good match to Classic Normal. I'm not sure if Supia has changed their resin color recently. Here is Supis Sujin on a Narae body
      [IMG]

Doll Family H is also a good match to Classic Normal. I'll try to get a picture later. I think Doll Family A uses the same resin as DFH.

    11. Thank you for posting the photo! I'll have to look into Supia and Doll Family H.

    12. I had the exact same feeling: loving the 38cm body but really not liking the Chuu head, so I just messaged him on insta asking if he planned to have the N40S head or fullset back in stock sometime in the future, since that's the head I wanted. He came back like ten minutes later saying, "I've got one in stock, and it has the fullset option." It was in new normal and my absolute preference would have been tan or milk choco, but I love the body and sculpt so much I figured I'd just go for it rather than miss out lol. This was maybe a week ago. So yeah, definitely just contact him! Super friendly and painless.

I don't know about DZ pink but I do have a pink white DZ pink bear and I don't think it really lines up with NS skintones--it really is a pink-tinted white skin. I don't physically have any naraes so I can't say anything for sure about their resin, but I'd be kind of surprised if DZ pink white matched, since Narae normal/new normal seems like a much more natural skin tone whereas pink white is very pale.

    13. Congratulations! I had made an order for Narin 45 Neo full doll earlier when Bimong first mentioned about pre-order thing. :) I paid final layaway part before Christmas so I hope he will be shipped out at January. I still have some room for a Bimong doll, I want one in tan with upper and middle joint and maybe .. few more. :XD:

    14. Thank you, Beldam, for your input on pink resin. Supia changed their "normal" resin tone in April so that won't work either as a match. Someday I'll uncover a decent hybrid. Until then I'll have a lot of heads floating around

    15. [IMG]

Took my 401, Key, out for photos the other day. He's just so gorgeous, there's something about Narins that is so hypnotic.

    16. Bimong just confirmed address for my doll, so I'm thinking she'll probably ship between tomorrow and Monday:D. Straight up vibrating with excitement. Hopefully she won't be embroiled in any shipping turmoil lol

    17. Omfg here at last....i'm in love, lads.

I ordered two heads, the N40s and the N404 14mm SM, but the SM got switcharood with the regular lol, so we'll see how that resolves. But aside from that she's seriously perfect :love

    18. Bimong asked me to check out the filled EMS form but does he send a message after it's been shipped out? Kinda... waiting for it as he asked about checking the information in the filled form on 21st. And it's not been added into any systems yet. If it would be shipped out I'd get some sort of notice. So far all EMS parcels has made me either text message from our local post or notice from UPS.

    19. I know in my case I wasnt alerted in any way when it was shipped, but if he sent you a photo of the whole ems label the tracking number is on it, so I just plugged it into 17track and obsessively refreshed it until it finally updated lol.

In my case he gave me my tracking info on the 13th but it didnt actually ship until around a week later, so it's possible he's trying to get a bunch of packages ready at once and ship them at the same time. Since it's been about a week, if it hasn't shipped yet I'm sure it will very soon.

    20. Finally my boy was shipped out on 7th as I tested the tracking yesterday. I'm exited to see how will he look in the end. Haven't decided his face up yet and I'm a bit nervous about that too. ^^; But yay, definitely exited to waiting to see him. :)

    21. Out of curiosity, has anyone ever taken out the kips that come with their doll and replaced them with hot glue sueding? One of the kips in my narae's legs seems to make it harder for her to stand, but I'm not sure if it's worth it to replace them

    22. Got my girl back from Tonocha! She wound up just like I wanted her--what a cutie! :D

    23. Hello! I used to love Narae dolls back in the day when they were French resin, and I'm back in the hobby after ten years away and wow they've changed so much! No more French resin it seems like, and different bodies, but same face sculpts? I always wanted a dandelion, and I'm a bit confused at the website and the naming of the MSD heads.

      art BIMONG

this one looks most like what I remember the old dandelion looking like, but the one that actually says dandelion in the name is the smiling face?

would love any insight on this! I'm also curious how the 26cm cocoro look next to the 40cm ish dolls :)

love seeing everyone's Bimong dolls, I'm especially tempted with this new fusion body! I loved the glow of the French resin but I remember it yellowing quite quickly

    24. @spacemachine - Bimong's selling system is a little bit complicated, but he is so nice (I have talked to him many times on Instagram and he is always so kind and patient with me) and it's worth trying to keep up.

Basically, he is not using the website at the moment. To really stay up to date with pre-orders you need to follow his Instagram account: Login • Instagram

About a month ago he had a preorder for a 53cm-sized Dandelion (updated 53cm body, head, etc.). I am not sure if that one is still open - I recommend writing him if you are interested though - there might be space left. He also periodically sells in-stock or pre-order dolls in the 1/4 Fusion size (usually with Narae heads, on a few occasions with other heads, such as Dandelion and Cocoro). But you can't select specific sculpts to purchase. You have to wait and see what is available.

Many of the sculpts pictured on the website have not come up for order again. He loves to experiment and re-work previously designed dolls, but sometimes these new sculpts are only available for a very short amount of time. The latest version of Dandelion (the 53cm one) didn't have a smiling face option, for example, but did have a sleeping face option.

I have purchased several dolls or parts from him and they seem to be all standard resin - smooth, opaque, not at all like French resin (although to be fair I've never handled French resin). It seemed like high quality material to me, not something that would yellow more than other resins.

To make a long story short X) - follow his Instagram account to keep track of what is going on and talk to him if you have questions (he really is lovely to work with). At one time he thought he would have to leave doll-making entirely because he was getting overwhelmed, but now he has help (although I believe he still does at least some of the finishing work himself) and because of that he was able to stay. So even though the system is a bit confusing, we can be happy he is still making dolls!

Edited to add: I owned one of the Fusion bodies for a while and it was so nice! Very flexible, beautifully designed. I only sold it because I decided to change to a different color (if it becomes available again).

    25. this is so helpful, thank you! I just followed his Instagram and I'll keep an eye out to see what gets released in the future :)

    26. I just got my fusion Narae, and biking is THE NICEST person to deal with. He was so kind when DMing on IG to make my order and answered all my questions. He even sent me some snacks and masks from Korea. ^_^

I’m new to the bjd scene, and when I got her in the mail I was in love. I’d never felt a doll quite like her and I love her so much. She’ll be getting a rakeru faceup this summer.

    27. Oh she's gorgeous. I love the Narae fusion body.

    28. anyone who hybrid a Minifee head with the Narae fusion body, did you find a way to make the head sit higher on the neck?

    29. Did you keep in the bumper she came with? That adds some height

    30. @reeology Do you mean the thick silicone that goes under the head? One of those came with my 2018 Narae, but maybe because I only ordered the fusion body and not a full doll, there is only a normal thin silicone kip you can find anywhere. Maybe I could ask Bimong if he has any spares... Otherwise if you mean the MNF neck adapter, it hasn't helped unfortunately.

    31. I meant the thick silicone thing! I checked my newer Narae and I see you’re right, he totally changed them. Darn, I thought that would help.

    32. Waiting for Narae 402 (artists run out of legs, I know it sounds funny, but i have to wait for him to order a new body).
Would Monique wigs 5-6 fit her head at all?
By the way, he said the new resin is pinkier, so I would have head and body of a different shade:pout:

    33. Not sure about Monique wigs in particular, but their heads are 6.5.

I’ve been looking for a good 6-7 wig but right now my girl has 7-8 on with a silicone cap. To me their heads are so tiny!

    34. Oh, thank you for replying, I was pretty sure this Bimong thread seem dead. Artist said the same about the size. I chose 41cm body as they seemed bubble-heads on 38cm body in images. I like how flexible 38cm body is but Narae's head looks out of place. Still don't have her, will try all the Moniques wigs I have stashed when they were closing:sweat

Wonder if the image would work.
      Just got my Narae.
Couple of questions. She has different shape of her left eye. So when I put her eyeballs in it looks odd and mismatched. Asked artist, he said that's what handmade means. Ok. Then there is a gap between her head cap and faceplate. Wonder if it's an artistic approach as well....
I am generally so unlucky when vi buy directly from artists, I got deformed joint, mismatched resin, mistakes and faulty parts, little blobs of resin sticking out, the list goes on, I guess I should focus on second hand exclusively.

    36. Bimong is usually good. Which Narae did you get? Your image isn't working.

    37. Well, then he just probably hates me .
402 if I remember correctly, she has been put behind all other dolls quickly . Her posing is ways worse than of a cheap Conarium. Plus no clothes I have suit her. Just too much trouble.

    38. Poor posing? May I ask what body you purchased? I have two of the fusion bodies and their posing is pretty hard to beat. It sounds like you ordered a much older body, going off the legs thing from an earlier post, which, if that's the case, it wouldnt be surprising for the engineering to be not quite there.

In any case, as far as I can tell, Bimong hasn't done new castings of the 402 sculpt in a long time, so its deficiencies probably have to do partly with age. Did you ask for photos from him of the doll before you purchased it?

I think Bimong is basically correct that something that is sculpted by hand isnt going to be perfectly symmetrical, in the way a computer modeled sculpt might be. You can mitigate that pretty easily with a good faceup though. The Lan sculpt from doll leaves is a great example--the eyes are known to be different sizes on earlier castings, but you dont even notice with the right faceup. A guess modding could help too, if you want to put in that degree of effort.

As for other superficial deficiencies, think of them as just that: superficial. My first Narae has a small chip in her shoulder from where I think a resin bubble popped, and I think it's kind of cute, something unique to her, like a birthmark haha.

      • x 2
    39. I very much doubt he hates you. Bimong is very friendly in my experience, but I think sometimes translation problems can make the true intention of a message a little hard to understand so any feeling of dislike you interpreted could just be that.

Unfortunately, without your image working, it is hard to know what exactly is going on with your doll. In my experience, bimong's fusion bodies pose beautifully. If the kips are what you are having trouble with as far as posing, removing them is easy with restringing. They aren't everyone's cup of tea but they aren't a defect really.

My 402 girl's eyes are also not perfectly the same. She is an older Narae but with a faceup you don't even notice (in my opinion at least). Plus people in reality rarely have symmetrical eyes. My eyes certainly aren't identical to each other.

You can see in the above picture her one eye is slightly smaller than the other. This is normal and not a flaw. It is simply how she was sculpted.

    40. No, it was freshly casted as the one that was meant to come to me suddenly gone to someone else and I was told to wait and that head and body will be of different shade now. A bit miffed as other artists take a better care of quality check. Gap between head plate and cap will be covered with wig. Will find an artist for face up and will get used to her eventually.
On posing, it feels like one leg is a bit longer, overall she is not balanced. Definitely better poser than Lillycat, but I can't sit her straight, she falls backwards. When standing I have to spend some time balancing her
Where do you buy her clothes? I have several bags of clothes and nothing suits her (((( Sitting on TaoBao now trying to find what might suit her massive type of figure...

    41. The standing thing I had trouble with too at first! Make sure the ball/mobility joint that connects to her hips is properly aligned (the cut through the top should face you directly--if its spun to either side, the legs will be out of whack.) Making sure her kips are in the right place also helps. Once you get used to manipulating the mobility joint for the pose you want, I've found her to be an extremely versatile and stable poser haha

Getting her mobility joint aligned properly also makes her a more stable sitter. Is your body one or two parts? Having her slouch slightly looks natural and also stabilizes her sitting down. If you have the 3 part torso, slouch the central piece forward, but have the uppermost piece slouch backward, and she sits rock solid.

As for clothes, I dress mine in minifee stuff! The only thing I've had problems with is pants--minifee skirts, dresses, shirts, and (so far) shoes all fit her. I'll post some etsy stores I like for her if its helpful.

If you have questions you feel would be answered best with pictures, let me know and I'll snap a few.

I hope your experience so far doesnt sour you on narae--theyre genuinely great dolls, but they're definitely doing their own thing haha

    42. Thank you!
I was browsing on Instagram (hashtag Bimong Narae) to get some inspiration to see what might suit her and in what style i should dress mine. Didn't like anything. Just got stuck. I don't have any slim msds to share clothes, unfortunately. She fit into 1/6 sleeveless t-shirt and boys military pants:aeyepop: , shoes are still a problem. Right now trying to sew for her. She'll be next in line for knitting (doing a pain in all parts Christmas jumper for SD).
Should you have any shops suggestions, please do share with me))
      Thank you.

    43. Sure!

You should be able to find shoes for her from hemeife on ebay or guluUp on etsy, and as for other clothes, on instagram I know: @balljointedsoulmates, @mobinj0, @hauteplastic, @curious_raven, @tiandto_, @rumpleclothing, @meicoshhouse, @redribboneddolls, @clairetronicbjd, @stellarevolutiondesigns, @doll_carousel, @aliona_tailor, @deadliciousdesign

Hopefully that'll help get you started!

    44. I am hoping this is the correct thread - I have just purchased a Cocoro full set on a 38cm fusion body with a sleeping head.
It has been my dream since entering the hobby to have a Bimong doll and his current special offers and generous layaway system has now made it possible.
So excited to get her next year!

    46. Hey everyone, popping in to see what size eyes everyone is using? I want to get new eyes for my narae 404 but I’m leaning towards small iris. Though, I’d like input on what everyone else is doing!

    47. Your link worked for me! Wow, those are actually very very similar to what I was going to purchase! Though, I found some on Etsy (with quite a price tag haha) maybe TaoBao is a better place to look, completely forgot the site existed. The standard iris 14mm I found just looks *too big* on the classic 404. I’ve never tried small iris before, so fingers crossed I like the look. Do you happen to have any photos of your narae/narin with those TaoBao eyes? :o I’d love to see, if so

    48. 6mm iris isn't actually small for 404. Mine wears 12mm ED eyes for which the iris size is 6.2mm. 12mm is the recommended eye size for the original 404 and 6mm is the standard iris size for that size (14mm eyes usually have a 7mm iris and Bimong made the 14mm 404 head recently to accomodate that size), so the irises are fairly big on her. I think most people use smaller than 6mm irises on their Naraes. Here's my girl with the 12mm ED, which I prefer for her:

    49. Sure, DoA does not work well with me re images upload so here is the link to my Insta. This is mostly image of the dungarees, but her face is more clearly visible without filters:
      O. M. G. on Instagram: "Finished dungarees for Narae. Pattern based on Smartdoll jeans. . . . #sewfordolls #bjdsdclothes #bjdinstagram #bjdcharacter #bjdfashion #bjdnarae #artbimong"

      Here is her face closer:
      O. M. G. on Instagram: "I tried this amazing coat pattern and guess what, I have screwed in my own unique way again. Lining colour bled on collar. Soaking the whole thing in vinegar and epsom salts. I know this is a minor nuisance compared to, but that is what always happens to me. No matter how hard I will try - tiny stupid thing will come up causing bigger problems. And I am not only about sewing here. . . . #sewfordolls #tirinandkatten #tirinandkattenpattern #bimong #bimongnarae #bjdsdclothes #bjdinstagram #whydoesitalwaysrainonme #athome"

    50. Really like the faceup of your girl. Very gentle. Mine has a similar style, but much rougher (her personality is)))

    51. Ooooh, oooh, I get to join in this thread now because I managed to get a 38cm fusion body (with a Chuu head but I was going to change the head anyways) who should be with me before the new year.

      • x 1
    52. Oh, congrats! I want Chuu one day, wasn't lucky with giveaway this time((
Actually on your Wanting section, I am thinking of re-homing my Iplehouse FID Yur in normal skin/curvy/small bust/mobility joint.

    53. Barring me utterly falling in love with the Chuu head, I have no plans for it and if I get Marketplace access I intend to sell it onward to offset the (reasonable but unexpected) cost of the body.

    54. Hi everyone.
I am new in the narae world, I've read the classic ns was a really good match for fairyland but how is it with the new ns ? I have been searching for a comparison picture with the new ns and fairyland ns but couldn't find anything. Or if anyone had a picture of a classic ns head on new ns body to give an idea ?
Thank you for reading me ^_^

    55. @Sjota I think new normal match better with fairyland. classic is more yellowish. here is from his instagram and someone asked in the comment link
You can always aks him :)

    56. @marxwyn Thank you very much, that´s great to know. I thought classic normal was the perfect match for fairyland. Do you know if classic normal and new normal works together ?

    57. I have received the doll from Bimong with head in New Normal and body in classic normal and the difference is quite dramatic. New normal is much more pink.

    58. Yes, I am pretty sure "New Normal" was meant to match Fairyland "Normal/Natural."

"Classic Normal" is lighter and less pink in my experience - however, I have seen two different versions, an older one (from 2019 or so) that was lighter, and one from 2020 that was darker/pinker.

But if you want to match Fairyland, New Normal ought to be the best bet.

Edited to add: Just as "New Tan" is meant to match Fairyland tan, and is actually quite close. I have samples of New Tan and Fairyland and they are just a bit different, depending on the light.
