Mystic Kids 1/6 discussion

Nov 2, 2013

    1. I have Cris and a Nelly, and they are both adorable. But, the hands are making me kind of crazy! I guess I am not fond of the "mitten" look. :ablah:

Has anyone had any success replacing the Mystic Kids hands with another company's hands?

    2. I just ordered my mystic kid yesterday from alice collections. I chose the julien head with faceup and the girl body. Not sure how long shipping will be. While waiting i was hoping to find a name for her and make clothes but i havent found any patterns for her size. Can anyone help with that or share? Im a first time bjd mommy.

    3. Yes, another Julien owner! My little one fits most YoSD clothes, so if you search for any patterns that are for YoSD you should be right. There's some cute ones on Etsy, though make sure they say YoSD not Littlefee, 'cause Littlefees are a smaller YoSD and the pattern may be a tad too small.

Edit - I just remembered that this Etsy store has a bunch of cute dresses and patterns that should fit your girl

    4. is your Julien a boy or girl?

    5. My little one is a boy with the default faceup, but the Julien sculpt looks pretty as a girl too. This is an old pic of him when I was trying to decide if I wanted him to have short hair or use this long wig for him.

    6. oh my gosh hes so adorable!!!!! I'm looking for patterns out the wazoo. my dad is buying her I'm 26 and I knew I didn't have money for the hobby but I couldn't resist her. so handmade it is. although I'm screwed on shoes.

    7. Hee hee, thank you. I've had this little one for a couple years now <3 I've seen some patterns for shoes on etsy as well, and some shops have some cute ones that aren't too expensive. eBay could be worth a look too.

    8. I spend $10 usd on myself making it hard to justify that to myself for my little girl. ha ha

    9. Sylph, your little Julien is adorable! I love his little outfit!

HunnyBunny, congrats on your first doll! The Julien sculpt will make a cute girl. I have a Cris I made into a girl. That sculpt is just perfect for a girl character I had in mind.

About shoes, I agree with Sylph, Ebay has some great deals on tiny shoes. I buy a lot of YOSD-sized shoes from Mimiwoo on Ebay, and she has very reasonable prices, and sometimes even has sales.

    10. oh I love mimiwoo. she delivers quickly too and I ordered a pair of shoes from her for a friends doll that fit perfectly. I guess its just hard buying online cause I cant examine them. I may just go to ebay and search lowest price + shipping and stay on the first page. itll do for now until I accept I have to spend more. thank you!

    11. Yay my julien girl is being shipped as of this morning. Exactly a month later. Does anyone know what the actual time it takes from china to usa is using ems?

    12. Just wondering HunnyBunny, did your Julien arrive yet? Would love to see a picture of her.

      • x 1
    13. Yes she did arrive but i dont know how to upload pictures in the posts.

    14. She is my avatar!

    15. Congrats on getting her! She's very cute!

About posting pictures, I copied this from the Frequently Asked Question Thread. Maybe this will help.

"Den of Angels does not host images, so you are not able to upload an image with your post. You will need to post the images to an external account like Flickr, Photobucket or your own website.

Once you've uploaded your photos, copy the URL of your image. The URL should end in jpg, gif or png. Some sites, like Etsy and Facebook, may have image URLS that will not work on DoA.

    16. Thank you so much! So far ive made her wig and all her clothes making my own patterns. Was hoping i get on the adopt a newbie train but i wasnt matched. Currently working on a blonde wig. It looks nice so far.and thanks for the info. Ill do that tomorrow.

      • x 1
    17. Wow! For a newbie you certainly sound like you've accomplished a lot for your new girl! I've never even dreamed of attempting to make a wig, and I don't know how to sew, much less make a pattern! You go girl! :cheer Your Julien is a very lucky girl!

    18. I didnt know the first thing about patterns 2 weeks ago but i get determined and research. The wig is yarn and fabric i found it on youtube. Also learned a few trucks with the sewing machine and smallmouth clothes. I would have been happily if all i got was scrap fabric and old tshirts. So the fabric doesn't change much but the style does.

    19. Thought I'd share a little drive by spam of my Mystic Kids tinies: Nelly (Cordelia) and Cris girl (Willow).

And, I finally got new hands for them! I found Doll Love hands for sale on Ebay, and bought two pair immediately. The resin match is not perfect; the Mystic Kids are a tad bit pinker, but it's close enough for me, and I'm ecstatically happy with the exchange. Yay! New hands! :dance

    20. They are both just too cute @Rabbit-moon ! And those new hands look great too, tbh I'm not fond of the mitten hands that MK has going on either :T I'm a bad dolly mom lol, I keep meaning to track down some new ones but haven't had the time/money >.<

    21. Thank you Sylph!

I hate to say it, but I hated the "mitten" hands on these dolls so much. I'm one of those people who has a thing about hands and I have even avoided lovely dolls when the hands were poorly sculpted. So, I was definitely on a mission to find my girls new hands.

Sadly, there's not much out there, but the Doll Love hands were a lucky find. And, I'm so happy they worked out.

As I said before, the Doll Love hands are a paler pink than Mystic Kids' pink, but I can live with that. Actually, it's even less noticeable to the naked eye. My Cris girl is about a year old and her pink skin has mellowed a bit, so the hands match her really well. Nelly is new, so she's still very pink. I'm hoping as she mellows, the hands will match better.

Here's Cordelia showing off her new hands. (She's such a drama queen!)

    22. :bump. Would love to see some pictures of other MK tinies! :aheartbea

Here's another happy picture of MK Nelly (Cordelia) and Cris (Willow).

As you can see, Cordelia is very prissy and lady-like; while Willow is a loveable little nerd. (Nerds rule! 8-))

    23. She looks nice with blue eyes

    24. Does any one else have the Mytsic Kids Chris? I love my boy, but his eyes are weird! The eye wells are shaped funny, so when I move his eyes to the side, there is a lot of gapping! Do you know how to fix this?

    25. I don't have a Mystic Kids doll, unfortunately, but I have to ask: are you sure it's the eyewells and not the eyes themselves causing the gapping? High domed eyes will likely cause gapping when they're moved side to side because the irises stick up too much to fit comfortably under the eyelid.

This could be totally wrong, but I thought I'd ask just in case! :3nodding:

    26. Honestly, I don't know! I always assumed it way the eye wells as I've had more than one pair of eyes in him, but they both might be high-domed!

    27. I'd check that just in case! I've been having some trouble with high domes in one of my guys with shallow eyewells, so it's on my mind. :XD: If it is the eyes, the irises of most acrylics and urethanes are flush with the sclera; it's usually just glass that have high domes (and some urethanes). I doubt the eyewells are actually messed up in any way, you probably just have to find the right kind of eyes to fit your guy's eyewell shape. :3nodding:

    28. A lot of people recommend silicone or 'soft glass' eyes for dolls with gapping issues. Apparently the eyes are slightly squishy so they will mold into the eye shape better.

    29. Thank you! His eyes are glass so that may be the problem!

I've never heard to soft eyes before! I'll definitely be checking it out!

    30. My Julian arrived a few days so and she's lovely but I have a question for all of you fellow Mystic Kids owners. When I went to put her head on, the resin is so soft that the s hook put multiple dents all around the top of the neck. I have dolls from two other companies and I haven't had this experience before so I'm wondering if MK resin is just much softer than other companies or if I got a bad batch perhaps and should bring this issue to their attention. Here's a photo from her first photoshoot btw!

    31. Does anyone here have a Cavell? I have him, but currently don't have any male clothing and he won't let me put dresses on him, so I'd love to see some other pictures of him. I haven't had my boy long and he's currently my only male bjd. I'm thinking about naming him either Angus or Hamish. ^^

    32. Sorry for double posting but it's been a while since anyone else posted here and I just wanted to show off my little Cavell named Angus. Eventually he'll get a shorter wig and blushing on his feet to look like dirt. He has a company faceup but I removed the eyelashes.

    33. Wow! Cap'n, your Cavell is so cute! I had no idea that sculpt was so cute! :fangirl:

      Congrats on getting him! :thumbup

    34. What clothes fit these dolls best??

    35. These dolls are 1/6 or YoSD sized. Most YoSD clothing should fir them. Sometimes YoSD are labeled as "slim" and my MK 1/6 has fit all of the clothes I bought him. ^^

    36. He's really cute! <3 Love his little overalls.

I have a Cavell too, whose name is now Ben. I just love the little guy. As cute as his company face-up is, I wanted more of a shy little boy look for him. His new face-up was done by Jay Searle and she really captured the look I was hoping for.

So here is Ben, dressed in his pyjamas and snuggled up with his teddy bear.

    37. Rosehollow, your Cavell is darling! He looks so sweet in his jammies and little stuffed bear! :fangirl:

Wow! All these super cute Cavells are making me want one!

      Thanks for sharing!

    38. Thank you for the lovely comment! <3

That's what happened to me after seeing an adorable photo of Cavell in the Gallery, I couldn't resist that little face. My advice... give in and get one too:3nodding:, you'll love the little guy!

    39. She is so cute!!! Her sweet little smile and rosy cheeks are adorable and I love how you have styled her :love
The only trouble is that now I want her too!

Cavell is my only Mystic Kid and his resin was fine, no dents around the top of his neck despite his being VERY tightly strung (it actually took two of us to get his head back on).

    40. Here are a few pictures of my Charlie from the past few years. Charlie is the sturdiest bjd I have ever owned, and I think she poses just amazingly.

    41. She is adorable! :D I love how you have her dressed and posed. These little cuties really steal your heart with their sweet faces!

    42. I do have a funny story about their "mitten hands." I had knitted a little fingerless muffler for her and got half way through the second one before realizing that.... her thumb was molded to her hand on the other side and she would probably pop a thumb-hole-less muffler off her hand if I bothered making one.

    43. Blue_wysteria, your Charlie is adorable? I love her outfits! :aheartbea

(And, I agree, they are good little posers!)

    44. I took Ben (Cavell) outdoors for the first time today. Actually it was my first time taking photos outdoors, so it was an adventure for both of us. Here he is perched in the notch of a tree feeling like he is on top of the world.

He looks like quite the explorer in the middle of that tree. ;)

    46. Sorry for the late response blue_wisteria! How's your darling little Charlie doing?

Yeah, those little "mitten hands" are a bit of an issue. (Okay, l gotta be honest, I hate the mitten hands!) But, sewing actual mittens for their mitten-hands would probably be exercise in futility since the little buggers don't have separated fingers. :doh But, still, the sculpts are so cute they sort of make up for it.

    47. Anyone have an idea for the current wait time is for MK? I'm heavily considering ordering a Cris with my next paycheck as a twin to my Vanetta. :)

      • x 1
    48. Don't know if this is any help, but I ordered my Ben(Cavell) on July 25, 2020 and he was shipped October 15, 2020.
Cris looks like a real cutie, I hope you decide to get her :3nodding:

    50. This thread is pretty old but I hope it's ok to still post here?

I finally have an outfit for my Nelly that I like so I'm confident to show her here
Only the eyes need to be switched I guess

Oh and anyone else having the issue that the hands won't "turn"? I try to turn them for some posing and they just go back to how they are in the Pic

I have a Nelly (Cordelia). I think the Nelly sculpt is so pretty.

….“Oh and anyone else having the issue that the hands won't "turn"?”….

OMG! Don’t get get me started on the hands! Sorry… a few pages/years back I went on a rant about the hands, but that was some time ago. Do the Mystic Kids still have “mitten” hands?

Rosehollow, what a sweet picture!:kitty2 Beautifully photographed.

Your Cavell is darling. Looks like big brother is really watching over him.

What sculpt is his big brother? (Love the dog, too!)

    57. I'm not sure about "mitten" hands? This is the best Pic of her hands I have right now (there was some bluetac on it when I got her, I've removed it since the Pic ofc)
But she's older, I'm at least the 2nd owner, she's also very yellowed, kinda butter colored now

      by Hikari, auf Flickr

I've already tried looking for new hands since the palm won't let itself be moved into another position but the colormatching to her yellowing and her wrist having a very specific size makes it difficult
For moving the hands I mean... "standard" her palm is facing her body, if I wanna make her wave and have the palm face outwards... It just "snaps" back to facing her body, it won't stay turned outwards

    58. Hi Hikari-chanXx, I’m so sorry the hands on your doll are having issues.

Yes, from your photo, it does look like the old mitten hands, where the fingers are molded with hardly any space/separation between the fingers. (Actually, it’s the other hand that is worse.) Like you, I also found the hands hard to pose. Because of these issues, and the fact that I’m OCD about doll hands, I got my dolls new hands. I was lucky; there were doll companies around at the time that sold hands for tinies. Unfortunately, both of those companies are defunct now: Doll Love, and Doll Legend.

I wish I could be more help; It's been a long time since I needed hands for a tiny. The Legend Doll site has a category for hands and feet from different companies. I see DollFamily-H sells hands for 1/6 dolls. DF-H has a normal yellow resin that might match the aged resin of your doll. It might be worth a shot to take a look. Good luck in your research!

    59. Thank you, I will check out DF-H! I was at a friend's recently and we checked with some of her tiny hands but had no match... The issue wasn't even really the color but the size of the wrist and S-hook
Tbh I'm not sure if other hands would make moving them better since I figure that's an issue with her stringing maybe? But it might be worth to try out if the hands aren't too expensive

    60. Thanks so much, Rabbit-Moon, for your lovely comments! <3 Your Nelly is very pretty with those beautiful big eyes :3nodding:<3

Ben's big brother Dylan is an Iplehouse KID boy Peach. Ben's sad little face called out for a big brother to look after him, and Dylan seemed perfect for the role.

Ben doesn't have "mitten" hands, although they are a bit on the "chubby" side.
