Aesthetics My Second Faceup !

May 25, 2016

    1. So! Now that I had time, I decided to redo the faceup on my IslandDoll Karl head ! Here's the thread for my first faceup for comparison ! Critiques are very much wanted ~

      Without eyes or wig:

      And the whole look:

    2. Not bad at all. The lips and freckles look great. With a bit more practice I see you becoming a rather good face up artist indeed. :whee:

    3. Hm.. It looks almost like your hand wasn't super steady while painting. I would suggest taking it slower and really focusing on consistent, smooth lines. I looked at your first faceup and actually really enjoyed the softer look! It's so great that you are experimenting though and I know you will be doing faceups like a pro pronto! :3nodding::hug:

    4. @Logan Ross thank you very much! i am definitely trying to practice more !

@Sakora Yea ! I do naturally have pretty shaky hands, which is kinda funny for me being an artist, and it definitely shows on faceups. And thank you so much for the encouragement !

    5. Of course!! I am also an artist with a shaky hand lol.. One of the two reasons I haven't tried doing faceups

    6. This looks lovely! The shape of his bros are especially wonderful.

Have you tried watercolor pencil for drawing in the eyebrows and lashes before? I find that they're a lot easier to work with than acrylic paint if you have shaky hands (I do, too).

    7. @obscuredlittlekyo Thank you haha! I'm a little self consicious about his brows because I feel like they aren't too good haha. On my first faceup I actually did use watercolor pencils! I am definitely working through figuring out mediums for good eyebrows :^)

    8. Really? I think their shape is gorgeous! Not only that, but they're a lot more symmetrical than the brows I did when I was first repainting dolls.

    9. What I find is really useful for eyebrows is using chalk pastel as the base and then layering as I go and adding the hairs in after. It gives it a more realistic eyebrow look I think, but for a second faceup I think you're on your way to getting better :)

    10. @orangetarts ah, thank you for the advice ! I will definitely be redoing the brows, but keeping the other parts of the faceup, I will keep this post updated on it ! haha

    11. It looks good! One of the hardest things (for me anyway) is getting eyebrows symmetrical and even and you did this wonderfully! I'm definitely no pro, but the two things that I think I'd do if this were my faceup would be to add some lighter colored strokes into the eyebrows to give them more dimension and also add some more blushing to his chin and maybe also his forehead.
