Multiple dolls for one character?

Dec 12, 2009

1. Just image these two are twins! That may be interestingXD

2. 100% agree with you.

I have plans to make a doll of Yoru's drow form, and our current kids (Sage and Thyme) will eventually grow into teenagers, though I'm not getting rid of their child selves. I never once questioned whether it was 'weird' or not. Particularly if it gives me an excuse to add more dolls I admire to my wishlist. :D

3. I was just curious how many collectors get multiple dolls for the same character? For example, I've been contemplating picking up a particular MSD because to me the face mold looks like a young teenaged version of my Littlefee and I thought it might be fun to have her as both a child and a young adult. It just got me wondering if others did the same or similar things, and why, and how it's viewed by the rest of the community.

So...anyone else do this? ^_^.

4. That actually sounds really interesting. Having a child, MSD and SD for one character would really be amusing, but at the same time I'd feel a bit bad that all the dolls would have the same name and whatnot. Personally I don't think I'd do it simply because I wouldn't want to have the confusion of calling all the dolls by the same name, and trying to bond with them all the same way. If anything, with 'similar' dolls, I'd make them related in some way, rather then just having different ages.
But that's just my two cents. c:

5. I think what intrigues me for this specific character is that there is a world of difference in potential scenarios and interactions with other dolls between her at age 8 and age 13/14 or so. I can't imagine doing it with my other dolls, owned or planned, but with Cecile I keep going back to thinking of the personality changes and new challenges she'd have, given her personality and backstory...it's odd because normally I'd think the same way you do, that it would be too confusing having two of the same doll, but I can't shake it in this case for some reason!

6. I know that some people do this :] Have like, a YoSD and SD version of the same character. I sort of want to (and sort of am), but it's different because it's not an older/younger version of a character, but more like two~three parts of the same character |D" (If that makes any sense.)

7. I have a CH Hani who is Yo-SD sized and she is actually much older. So I plan on later getting her in her true form/size as maybe an SD Chami. I think it will be nice and fun to see the dolls in different stages of their lives since they don't actually age..@o@ <3

8. I just thaught of this today!I kinda whant to do that wit one of my characters, but I`m still contemplaining if I should spent that much money on a character, or use it to do one of my other characters, if that makes any sense...

9. Yeah, lots & lots of people do this. It's common.

If you like your character at multiple stages in life-- or even if you want multiple moods/expressions of the same face at the same age-- if you want dolls of all of them, then do it.

10. I have a teen version of my Meisa played by my Ha-Yarn Cho. As long as I don't have them in the same room too often, it's not all that weird. ;) I've even been lately considering a chibi version of my Sabik, a tiny I can carry around in my purse.

11. It would be interesting... I've thought about it. :3

12. I have a puki puki for a character (she's still in development) and plan on getting an SD sized doll who would be the same character in a different... form xD

13. I've recently done this. I have Haniel in his normal form (Cherish Chubby Demon boy) which looks like a 6 year old and Haniel in his teenaged form (FL Ruth) where he looks about 16 years old. Haniel is a demon and can change his shape at will, but he can't hold the older version for more than a few hours at a time yet. His personality/manner of speech changes along with his size as well.

I had vague "some day" ideas of getting a teen!Haniel but never thought I would until there was a great deal on the MP and I kept going back to the sales thread. I threw caution to the wind and bought him after a month of staring and I'm very happy with this alternate version.

14. When/if Bambicrony releases their Bellezza line, and it's SD girls, and they come in tan, then I'll have an adult version of at least one of my Brava Bambis for sure.

15. I'm working on kid-versions for my Fire Emblem game character dolls Ike & Soren at the moment. They will be Yo-SD size. And I also think about Puki versions of them too... (I already made their outfits and got wigs for them, but still no idea when I have the money ready to get the Pukis)

16. Hi guys, don't think a thread like this has been started before, so I thought i'd start one.

Have any of you ever had two dolls for the one character? For example, a child form and an adult form?

I'm looking at doing this for my Damian (whose child form is on the way) but I wanted to see if anyone else had done something like this before.

17. Different dolls for the same character?

Personally I haven't, but I would. My FCS MSD girl could use an adult version. Just waiting for Volks to offer FCS for the SD16 or the not-yet-released SDGr G bodies. So that's likely years away, if ever. :P

18. I haven't, but it's not uncommon either. I've sort of kicked around the idea a little bit in the past, but never seriously. I'm not sure if it's something that would work for me.

19. Ahhh darn there was another thread ><

Well i guess it depends on their storylines? For example Damian goes through a lot as a child, and then a lot as an adult - so it may be easier (although definitely not cheaper!) to have the two separate dolls.

20. I had never even considered it before, but I find it fascinating (especially since I'm a Sci Fi fan with an obsession for time travel and this would allow a lot of craziness with paradox fun). While more expensive, it does allow you to do more with your character's story.

21. Yes, I have more than one doll for a character -- child versions of the SDs, an excuse to buy MSDs and Yos! A few of my characters have more than two; for example, my Volks Megu (whose character is age 13) has a 20-year-old self (Volks SD16 Kira), a 7-year-old self (Volks MSD Yuni), and a 4-year-old self (Volks Yo-SD Megu). Due to a Spatial Anomaly under my house (so goes my storyline), they can all coexist.

22. I swear there's another thread around for this but I can't find it.

Anyway, yes I have child and adult forms of two of my dolls, and I'm planning it for another two. I have their parents as well, so I like having those two forms to play around with. That and my house is one whole time paradox with story timelines. XD

23. XD thats what i'm thinking of doing for my Damian. I've ordered his child form (Littlefee El) and planned his adult form (Senior Delf Frey), and I'm planning to own his mother (Feeple Chloe) in a while xD a friend of mine owns his father and his love interest (she has the child form, but i believe shes going to get an older form. not sure about that though).

Yay for heaps of timelines!

24. I will, eventually. 1 will have a baby form, and a pre-teen/early teen form. I already have the pre/early teen version of her. I just need to get her baby self. And another has a good and evil/shadow form. It'll be fun to have both versions of them, as they're so different from one another, which will add some serious mystery to the photostory they're from, once I have the characters all together and completed enough to go into actually DOING the photostory! Some of my others will wind up with 2 heads. 1 head for their 'younger' selves, another for their 'older' selves. That way I can do both photostory time lines I want to do (the first focuses on the characters that will have 2 ages, themselves, the second will focus on the 'next generation' group with appearances of the original story's characters, so they need 'older' heads for those times)

Assuming that whole thing made sense. ^-^

25. I have 9 dolls for one character...He exists at ages 2-4, 10, 13-15, 24-186, 187-497, 498-500 and 500 and up plus two plus two pukis that are the chibi version and the chibi ID who was kind of an accident. and I have an extra head. For me it started out more as a way to have all these dolls than wanting so many versions of one character...I had an extra head, I wanted the Pado...I got an extra Leeke D head, the WS version was released...the extra head got a body of his own...and before I knew it I had 9 dolls named Alex. And the head.

I actually think it's fabulous for character development. It makes you really think how this person was at different periods of their lives. How they've changed and grown, how they dress and what they like. I just finished giving my first one a new faceup so that he better matches all the "younger" dolls and I think they all look great together! lol the universe has probably imploded several times over here, since all of them sit on the same shelf together XDD

26. I have a couple of wigs so our LTF can dress up as child forms of two of my older characters when I want to do "The way we were" photoshoots, but I can't keep two permanent forms of my characters around. Gives me too much cognitive dissonance—I'd never know which one to play with!

27. One day I plan on having one head and two bodies. My Character Alan is actually a woman and I want him to have a male body so he can dress up in mens cloths, then a woman's body so he can have girly moments. I think that kinda counts ^,^ also when Alan is on his female body he can also play his identical twin sister... now I need to get the body.... *goes to the web and starts looking* damn you Alan...

28. I was just thinking about this. : D I have a character that I'd like to get in doll form, but it's going to take some planning... I'm currently gearing up to order his father as a MNF Boy Marcia, so it'd be weird to order another MNF or mini sized doll, but at the same time... i dunno. It would make sense to order him as a YOSD first and just make Deskri seem like he never ages. XD (Which is prolly true... I haven't put much thought into it.)

Anyways, if I were to do this, it would only be for special characters. ; w ;'' I can't afford to get little/big versions of everyone!

29. I was actually going to do this three times - one adult/child form for riven my flame elf.the child one fell through because i lost interest in the sculpt i was going to get for her. the second time was for karst (rivens sister) which i regretfully ended up selling both her adult and child forms.(the younger version im trying to get back now.)

Third time - this ones really not adult/kid versions, but rather adult forms of the same character three times, which is Raziel.

i'm forever keeping his vampire version and i dropped the idea of owning him in human and wraith forms entirely.

man this hobby is not easy on the brain i tell you....

30. I wouldn't go so far as a whole entire doll, but for what it's worth, one of my dolls has two distinctly different heads for him.

31. Am actually considering this at the moment o_o The character Floyd was entirely based on the way Koji looked, but over time the way I envision him has changed a lot... And then I saw Iplehouse Felix which seems to fit him so perfectly o_o But now I don't know what to do, haha... I though about having two dolls for the same character, but that seems a waste of money to me, because they're the exact same character (no age difference as people have described above).

32. I was toying with the idea of having a larger and a mini version of one of my OCs, simply because I thought it would be fun to have her argue with herself and that the mini one would always win, but then I decided I had too many dolls on my list already that I really shouldn't be making one into two.
I still like the idea, though, maybe someday I'll get the space and money to get a larger doll for my OC (the one I'm originally going to get is a Minifee, for awesome posing and the fact I want her desk-sized)

33. im considering doing this since i bought an msd sized doll to be my dariel but now i cant find an msd sized doll to be his partner gaku so im considering just keeping him and getting another sd-sized form of him to be gaku's partner but ill give the sd sized on a different name!

34. I could see myself doing this for certain characters. I have some characters which grow with me and do not have their entire lives planned out. I would not have more than one doll for them as I like them to age and change as naturally as characters embodies in dolls can. However, I have another set of characters whose lives and deaths I already have written out, for the most part, in my head. For them, I could see getting two or even more dolls for different stages in their lives. There are a few I could see getting different versions of (not different ages or life stages, but versions as in parallel universe pairs); however, I have not decided if I want to do this or not.

35. I do have one character over here in two very different dolly "incarnations"...

Palrah (my favorite City of Heroes MMO toon-) exists in resin form as both a LittleFee Elf Shiwoo "chibi" version of himself and as a very "grown up" EID Akando. ^_^

36. I currently have 5 version of Voldemort. Child/1st year Tom Riddle, Teenage/6th Year Tom Riddle, Adult/sexy darklord Tom Riddle, Reborn Creepy Voldemort, Chibi Voldemort, and I still have in progress a Quirrel which will have Voldemort on the back of his head. I have 3 Lucius, and 4 Snapes, 2 Bellatrix, and that's it for doubles. I'm tempted to get MSD sized Lucius & Snape, or a Yo-sized Voldemort, but still deciding. (shrugs). I have a concept I'm happy with, and dolls I'm happy with, I don't care how many of a character I have.

37. I did ^^ For some reason my fav character got more than one doll. I have him in chibi LTF form, in SD and i want one in puki >W<
I just love him too much~

38. I havent had one yet, but I am thinking of having an adult form and a Jr. (child) form for a character that I have it mind. It's a very interesting idea and I feel that it'd also make for an interesting project. ^^

39. I'm planning something sort of like that. I'm planning a character that's very emotional so she'll have multiple heads with the same basic faceup for one body. So I can cover everything for different photoshoots and whatnot. xD Not exactly what you're talking about but it's something similar.
Although having a different doll for her childhood, teenagerhood, and adulthood would be neat too... expensive but neat xD

40. I am considering this, actually. Originally I thought it would just be a waste of money, but then I remembered how much I love drawing Zin as a midgie little chibi, I realized how much fun it would be to have him as a Puki with really wild hair like a little Troll doll (Zin as a character has been called a troll many times, so it only makes sense!) :V

I realize I probably just offended seven million people by saying that but I don't care, IT'S CUTE. The real trouble comes with offending seven million MORE people when/if I DO get a Zin Puki and... he starts dressing like Rob Halford...

41. I've got 2 versions of Haniel. One is his regular form (that of an approximate 6 year old) and one of the other form he can assume (that of a teenager). I hadn't planned on doing that though. It just worked out that way due to trolling through the MP and seeing awesome deals on the sculpts that were perfect for him.

I also have twin characters. I'm going to get the YO-SD sized ones but I've also seen the perfect sculpts for them as young adults. I'm resisting that like mad though.

42. I had considered that for Lily
(child Lily, Teen Lily, Lily Demonic)
but I don't think the last one would work

43. I could have sworn I saw a discussion about this before, but I couldn't find it again.
EDIT: Thank you to whoever relocated me! I knew a thread like this was out there! XD

This answers my question about different dolls for different ages, but does anyone have multiple dolls of the "same age" for one character? (Two or more adult versions, etc.)

Right now I have a Littlefee and a Delf that I'm currently working on that are both the "same person" at different ages. However, I have put serious thought into getting another SD sized doll to be a version 2.0 of my El. XD; I like the idea of re-shelling him to look taller, more manly, and maybe less stylized... but I don't think I'd have the heart to sell the original if I could help it. :aheartbea

44. Do any of you have more than one doll/sculpt to represent one character?
nope, but i do see a few people having a few dolls for the same character. mostly it's different sized dolls (e.g. SD and tiny for the same character). i might, though, if i actually have the money, haha.

Would any of you consider doing something like this? For those that already have, are the different dolls meant to represent the character at different ages? Did you have any particular reason for shelling the character into multiple dolls?
as i said, i might consider, if i actually have the money. the thing is, it can represent the doll with different expressions. even if it's the same sculpt (well, i kind of grouped dreaming eyes or sleeping heads etc under the same sculpt here to simplify expression), i think it'll be fun to do different faceup for different expressions or for a different look as they mature. alternatively, the same doll on different bodies or a similar one on another body, like what i think you're considering for your EL is also quite interesting.

on another note, yes, i think there's a similar thread somewhere about this. and i think part of the reason why some people have a few dolls for the same character is cos they can't bear to part with the er, older one. yeah.

45. I don't think it's a bad idea ^^ Though I haven't done that, I've been caressing the idea of having two dolls for one character... Heck, even three dolls. Two "grown up" ones (one grumpy, one happy), and the teenager version. BUT ALAS, I'm not that rich.

I'd also love to have children version for some of my adult dolls. Cute MSDs that would represent the younger version of their 70cm counterparts. That'd be so friggin' cute.

46. I do have multiple dolls for two of my characters.

I have a male and a female version for my Hijiri (which so happens to be a unisex name!) who's based on Hijiri from the manga/anime Yami no Matsuei who I RP.

I have a younger version of my Labrador (who I also RP and who's based on the character of the same name in 07-Ghost). I just had to have his younger version after his backstory was revealed in the manga! His younger version is a lot shyer and has a different name, Ilyusha. In 07-Ghost, Lab is the current vessel for one of the seven 'Ghosts' and after it was revealed that his predecessor was a woman, I just had to have a doll version of her too! And since I do also RP a genderblended version of Lab, I just might have to get a female version of him as well... I just love him so much! o(>_<)o

47. Yep. My MSD and SD boys may have different names, but they are the same character. When I started out, I feel in love with a doll that was the perfect 11-year-old incarnation of my Gawain. I didn't expect to find a perfect adult incarnation as well, but I did... So now I have a child and adult version of the same character - not exactly what I planned, but why not? :D

48. Well, I've got a couple of characters that are represented by more than one doll each, AND I also have a couple of dolls that represent more than one character each. It works both ways ^^

49. I have MSD and SD versions of Amir. (AoD Chen and Gu) Chen was my first doll and I still love the character, just decided to upgrade, but can't part with the Chen.

Zack has three forms...baby, toddler and preteen. The preteen was Loki's head before his upgrade (DZ Mo ---> DZ Mo-B) I can't part with Loki's head either, but becoming Zack works, since Zack is his son who looks like him.

50. I will be buying a 'future' version of my character Neykon. Neykon is over 700 years old so he's had lots of personas over the years, so I guess it would make sense.
Also, when I first bought Neykon (a Souldoll Vito Sharics) I was very new to the BJD World (he was my first doll) and I only knew of three or four companies. With my limited knowledge (I didn't have access to DOA), I didn't do as much searching for the perfect doll as I would have had I known better. I will never sell my Sharics for sentimental reasons, but in a way I regret not buying the perfect doll in the perfect size for me. So I'll have a couple of Neykons floating around eventually :D

51. I think I have the inverse of this idea, where my doll can be different characters... Though I guess that all dolls can actually do that. Hmm.

52. I consider getting some characters both as SDs and YoSDs. I just love the idea of children versions of my characters. :D

53. I dont have two DOLLS, but I have three heads. Evil version, good version, and a sleeping head for the dead version. [dont ask.]

I've considered getting a separate body though, only to make things easier. But I don't think there would be anything wrong with it ^.^

54. I have lots of dolls that are duplicates of the same character (I posted early in the thread several years ago).

I have a puki Snape, a 60cm Snape, a 70cm Snape, and a Alan Rickman head that is just a 'bust'. They are almost all identical for their characters. I see the 70cm as a few years older then the 60cm version. But a lot of the duplication is that it's nice to have a 70cm Snape to go with a bunch of 60cm students.

I also have '6' voldemorts. 1 chibi Voldie, 1 MSD that is child Tom Riddle. 1 that is older 7th year school version of Tom, then another that is out of school Evil Dark lord (pre nose loss), then the reborn Voldemort with no nose, and lastly a work in project of a Voldemort/Quirrel. All the SD sized Tom Riddles/voldemorts use the same mold even (different skin tones, but same mold). I think I'm at my limit for the character/mold. But I've thought about having other versions because I like the one mold so much. It just happens.

55. I have two this way. Littlefee El and Shiwoo as the kid versions of the Delf El and Shiwoo. They're five, while the adult version is in their 20s.

56. I think that's lots of fun ... especially if you're into photostories :D
If i were rich (lol..) I'd have a couple evil/good but same person, one very angelic and dreamy faceup and the other one somber and gloomy... haha... maybe one day...

57. I haven't done this yet but I imagine I will! I have second dolls for two of my characters on my wishlist...not particularly an older or younger version of them, just them in different forms I suppose. I will probably also eventually have older and younger versions of a few characters though.

58. I have none that are the same character at the same age, unless I'm counting the sleeping heads (and I don't). But I've done it several times with different ages. The young and older versions have different names so it's easier for me to distinguish which one I'm talking about, but they're usually nicknames of their actual names.

I have a Dolkot Kiss playing the older version of my Kid Delf Ttori. I have my IP Gentle Cocori playing the older version of my Dollmore Momo and I have a DOB Libra playing my DOC Si as younger child. I also have used my Kid Delf and DOC in photostories, playing my Elfdoll Red and Unidoll, but they aren't permanently those characters. I've also got a young and old version of my Elfdoll K, but only as an option head. And three more blank heads in waiting that will be younger or older versions of my other Elfdolls. Their faceups aren't priority, but I'm hoping to get my Lydia redone and have the young head done at the same time at some time this year.

One of these days, I think it would be fun to "downsize" all my crew, keeping both versions. I've already found mini sized dolls to fit about three of my SD-range dolls, and a tiny for one of the minis. But this would be something that would only happen if I won the lottery. I just think it's fun to look for the sculpts when I'm bored.

By the way, this conversation might seem familiar because there's a thread in the Picture Requests section here: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...Grown-Up-Upgrading-to-an-quot-older-doll-quot

59. I was thinking of making 2 girls from the anime Rosario and Vampire - one with pink hair and the other one with white, she also looks more mature and with larger bust. Or, it could be one character, but in different ages of his life.
