Multiple dolls for one character?

Dec 12, 2009

    1. Do you think is all right to have more than one doll for the same character. i mean like having two dolls for one charcter like there past or present.... or something like that. i was wondering because i have 2 dolls but there both the same person*_* iam kinda weird and iam planning to get another one.....and just so happens its the same person againg i will be having the same character in 3 dolls.... please someone tell me if this is normal.... or iam just crazy.... :sweat or do any of you have more than one doll as the same person

    2. Why souldn't it be ok? I think it interesting having for example the past and future as dolls and now getting present. I don't do it myself but I really don't see a problem other than money. :sweat

    3. haha yeah the money is the problem

    4. I've seen some people use tinies as a chibi or child version of a character, then a larger doll as the current age of the same character. It's not unusual, and it can actually be quite interesting, especially if both selves interact with one another in photostories. :)

    5. yeah it is interesting there always together and look cute since there the same except age........ but sometimes i wonder i could buy other characters..............

    6. Nothing wrong with it... my Gabriel and Luc are actually the same character, the former being the adult version and the latter the child version.

I have a friend who has a set of Brownies to be mini-versions of some of her bigger dolls, and I've toyed with getting Brownies/Pukis/Latis to be mini-versions of some of my own.

    7. Hey, whatever works for you--there's no real right or wrong way to do things :)

    8. i guess but the other one that iam getting is also an sd sized so two sd sized and one yosd

    9. My girlfriend has two entirely different head sculpts for the same doll and she swaps them out depending on her mood. It confuses other people who happen to like one or the other version better but she's happy with him. :)

    10. idrisfynn.. haha its funny iam not the only one... it makes feel better

    11. yes i have his child self and the other one i will be getting is his demonic inner self

    12. I have considered doing this, but thankfully Dollmore hasn't released a tan Kara Klum to be my Pado's older self, so my wallet has been saved there ;) That and can't really handle another SD doll- and then I would have to update the other two, so a little too crazy for me.
But I always find it interesting when I see people with multiple versions of their doll.

    13. Yeap nothing wrong with that

I have younger and older versions of the same characters

    14. Nothing wrong with that. I think Vampireangel13 has at least 5 or 6 different versions of her Alex - they're all awesome and beautiful!

    15. You forgot to mention that you also happen to have a couple of those in Unoa form as well, and will soon have a EID version of Kon too. ;) (whyyesIdostalkyouandyourboys)

The thought has occurred to me to get a more adult version of Rachel. Or a chibi version of one of my other characters (who doesn't even have a 1st complete form yet). So, no, I see nothing wrong with multiple character embodiments. As long as it makes you happy, there really are no rules set in stone for this hobby. Just like aernath said. :)

    16. i thought about it once. i wanted a caracter who could change from girl to boy.
but then i got like : NAAAAH, too much money for nothing!

    17. i think its completely normal....muh friend does that .......:3

    18. I don't see anything wrong with that at all! I think it's awesome, honestly. :XD:

    19. I have a minimee of Seifer Almasy, and a minimee of Squall Leonhart - but I also have general iplehouse sculpts to be them too. If you have the money for it, why should it be a problem? It's your hobby, so do whatever makes you feel happy!

    20. I was actually just thinking about this today. I was looking at msd dolls and I found one that looked like she could be a younger version of my future doll. I didn't give the idea any more thoughts since I already have a list of dolls that I'm planning to buy :sweat

    21. that is so awsome that other people do this not just me....

    22. Nothing wrong with that. Just as people like multiple of the same mold, people like to have multiple dolls for the same character. I currently have 4 Snapes, 3 Lucius, all different molds. I have 3 'Voldemorts' all the same mold, but different versions of the character. It all works.

    23. AmyAngel ~ you know i love you, right? *hugs*

:D i do have 5! and i love every one of them! (tho the first is still my favorite XD) Having 3 adult versions of him rocks because i dont have to change his clothes as often XD *lazy*

and like everyone has more or less said so far, do what you want and what makes you happy with your dolls^^

    24. I don't see anything wrong with it; it's an interesting concept.

    25. that is so awsome 5 versions for one character.... how cool

    26. i like it :3
and if Dollmore releases more Kara Klum versions in the future, i'll probably have more =_=

as it is i keep eying the WS Thinking one that is still available...

    27. wow i also want to add more to be the same character.... that wil be awsome... you dont have to change there clothes that often haha

    28. I don't think it's weird either. I've considered getting a JID to be a "travel size" version of my EID, just 'cause the EID is such a pain to lug around.

    29. I don't see any issues with having multiple dolls representing a character. I've pondered getting the child version of my SD girl since that's what she was when I first made her. If I had the money and there were moulds that suited more of my characters, I'd probably do that for atleast one of them.

    30. *raises hand* I have two versions of my very first doll - one is her sassy adult version, the other is her shy child version. I find it helps me develop their characters and track the changes from childhood to adulthood. :)

    31. wow so many people not just me

    32. I have two versions of my werewolf, King. I have his 5 year old self and his adult self. I want to do the same with my vampire, Mike. Fairyland just released a Littlefee Shiwoo first and not the El!

    33. I also have two versions of the same character--one of Hikaru when he's 15 years old, and another as his 24-year old self, and I'm happy to have them both. :)

    34. I have no fewer than five versions of my 'Tigerbaby' character:
      http://www.flickr.com/photos/tigerbaby/4157401072/sizes/o/
...and a sixth (LittleFee 'Big' PukiSha) on my worktable, half 'Tibbified'. I also have two dolls that represent Tigerbaby in his 'human' secret identity, and am working on a 'Tibbified' version of the 60cm one, using his extra 'event' hed.

      ...obsessed? who, me? nah...
welllll...maybe a little. But I find it really rewarding and interesting, to keep the same core character and explore various embodiments; by keeping a known set of variables consistent, it gives me a freer rein to experiment with skills and techniques. When I do 'normal' faceups, I put down my brushes and look around puzzled...'that's it?'

Having multiple dolls to represent the same character also opens up potentially interesting storylines and concepts for photoshoots, if that is your 'thang'. I love it in manga when the artist uses a 'chibi' representation to express strong emotions or for comic relief - when it's done well, it's so visually striking!

Would Doctor Who be the same if they'd never had any other Doctor than William Hartnell? I think not.

Don't worry about whether someone would say it's 'wrong' - they are your dolls, and you should do with them what you find most interesting and rewarding.

    35. Oh yea. I think that is totaly normal! My character Metal will have 2 dolls, one being her female self, the other being her male self (she can switch genders at will<3) And I will probably have them interact with eachother, as inner conflict. Also after I get all my OC dolls I want to get Severus Snape from harry potter, I want to get a Leeke Kyou for a younger Snape, and a Unidoll Jace for an older Snape

    36. it is interesting when you have more than one doll to be one character you can have different faceups and different clothing on each doll because in the end its still the same character

    37. If had the money to, I would buy another head and body for my boy when he goes into his "homicidal rampage mode." Then he could have different physical features (bulging viens, different faceup, etc...). I think it's completely normal :)

    38. It is a fun excuse to get yourself a few tinies. Sometimes the rationale behind getting another doll can be quite inventive!

    39. I dont have a need for it myself with my family but i dont think it is weird at all.. i actually think it is a pretty neat idea.

    40. I think it's fine if you have the money for it. If your character's storyline had the character going back/forward and meeting themselves.

    41. No, I don' think there is anything wrong with that. Your expanding on her story which is cool.

    42. yeah even tho they are the same person they do intereact because they have changed a little

    43. Like everyone else I agree. It's your hobby, so do with it what you will. ^__^
      I personally have 5 of the same character. ^_^;;

    44. Whatever suits you XD I only have different faceplates for my tinies, but I'd love to get a dreaming/sleeping head for two of my boys...

    45. I was planing on doing that once...For my soom amber boy...But soom has yet to release a tiny that has goat ears....yet...

I think it would be cute to have a child version and an older version...but i dont got the money...

    46. I have only one doll currently and someday I hope to upgrade but make the same doll better... if that makes sense.

But I think that would be awesome to have the doll in different stages of life. Wow, *muses* that would be interesting to see the evolution of the character that way!

    47. Whatever floats your boat. If that makes you happy then its pretty darn cool. :)

    48. I don't myself and probably won't (not that I'm ruling it out entirely, though xD), but a friend and I are doing something similar.

She lives in Australia and I live in the United States. We have dolls that are married in our role-playing game and they have a child together. She has a "toddler" version of their son and I'll be getting a "tweenaged" version of their son. (So each parent will have a version of their child, at least. xD) We're planning on funny photoshoots when we get the family together in September. ;)

    49. I think thats a really neat concept - I hadn't considered doing anything like that. Props for neat idea-ry!

    50. That's an interesting idea. I don't personally have something like this, but I think it's be cool to have two dolls, with one being the inner persona.

    51. I have four dolls to representate 2 different timephases of 2 characters represented by these dolls.
      Nothing wrong on it.
I just have to be careful to not mix up two dolls correspondent to the characters in different timephases, or it may look odd and time-paradoxal, but that's just in my head although.

    52. Don't see anything wrong with it, as a matter of fact, I'm considering eventually creating a teenage version of my Anna (Soom Meisa). So, if anyone has any thoughts on which sculpt in the 45-50cm range would work as a younger version of Meisa - I'm open to suggestions! :)

    53. Well I have a character with multiple personalities and I want a doll to represent most of his personalities ('cause I love them so much and there needs to be introspective photoshoots).

I would consider getting 'chibi/child' versions of some of my characters, if I found a little doll that suited them and I had the money, but I don't know If that would work for me or not. Maybe I'll find out some day.

I don't have any plans to but it is a possibility I may 'age-up' a doll. But I might be so attached to the original I don't want to sell them. So again, I guess I'll see...

    54. I have 4 Alice/Alyce dolls, although three are off topic for this forum.

But I have plans in the future to get at least two more Alice/Alyce bjds. One as her Queen of Heart's form and one as Alice. I'm also tempted to do her child, also named Alice/Alyce (I haven't decided on spelling for the child yet), who is really Alyce (very long story). And then there is the fact that I want to get the Queen of Heart's that Alyce fights in my story, who is really Alyce's mother/Alice (like I said, long story involving circular time) and you've got not only another Alice/Alyce but another Queen.

Which means I'll end up with 5 Alice/Alyce's. At least two of which will be the exact same mold in the same skin tone. So yeah, I've got no problem with it at all.

    55. I sure hope there's nothing wrong with it! I've got 4 dolls, and they are all both the same and different characters. XD I suppose if I ever need to downsize, it'll make it easy, the remaining dolls will just absorb the character of whomever moves out.

    56. I personally don't see anything wrong with any way that anyone chooses to enjoy their dolls.

I'm the exact opposite though. I have multiple characters I plan to embody in single dolls.
Twins for instance. I don't want to actually spend the money owning multiple dolls, if all I really need to do is change a pair of eyes, and the clothes, and maybe do a bit of photo editing.

    57. It's not strange at all! I know for the storyline that I have with my roommates, we've got plans at some point to make child versions of three of ours. I'm not sure if we'll make other age versions at any point or not, but it's not something that would be completely out of the question. c:

    58. I'm planning to have 2 girls who technically are the same, (well half a spirit inside them both). Not quite the same as having a character as such but, I dont think its too much of a bad thing.

    59. I wish people would stop asking permission to play with their own dolls in the way they want to play with them. It makes Baby Jesus cry.
