Mori9 Dolls

Someone on Weibo asked if Lyra's normal will match Hayato's normal, and Mori implied that it will not. Mori did not explain how the colors were picked.
Mori also clarified in the comments on Weibo that the Universedoll white in her photos are Universedoll's beauty white (pinky white), not Universedoll's pure white.

 

It's pretty clear to me that nothing really matches save for the gray, which is the closest. >w< Swan White is closest to Universe doll's white, but USdoll's white is clearly a little darker. @Constance Thanks for pointing out that it was USdoll's beauty white. Mori's photo isn't great, so I was assuming it was their pure white when I looked at their samples.
I think at the end of the day though the easiest thing is going to be to just send the headcap off somewhere for custom matching, which is what I'm planning to do anyway if I'm lucky enough to win one. I'm not really a fan of any of the bodies Mori has him on to begin with, so I'll probably sit and wait it out in hopes that someone releases something a little better.

I've got a reminder set to send my email tomorrow morning and I'm hoping that the results will be more like the Hayato lottery and less like the Austaras and Veles bloodbath. My friend and I are both entering for WS and NS, and we're both like "oh no, I can think of far worse things to happen than accidentally getting stuck with two Lyras".
He's such a cool sculpt, I hope we can all get him

 

TBH I'm not a stickler on perfect matches since you can just have the head blushed to match for faceup and you can just edit it to match in any photos if needed, they all look pretty good to me. I'm not wild about the Universe doll body either. I know 2D partners with some independent artists who don't sell bodies to custom match for a body (but you make the order separately with 2D). It would be cool if Mori partnered with them as their standard muscle 75cm body looks pretty good too.

 

I think all of the samples shown match close enough to be blushed for a passable match, and I am a stickler for matching colors. Honestly, if your doll will be a hybrid, you just have to accept that 100% color match is basically impossible. It's just in the nature of hybrids. Anyway, I think the match between Mori's white and Soom's white looks good, but mostly I'm going with Soom because so many clothes are made to fit ID75's measurements. I like the bigger shoulders on a lot of the 75cm range bodies, but am not interested in struggling with sizing on clothes.

I really hope this lottery goes more like Hayato's, too. I imagine Mori also didn't enjoy seeing all the sad comments from people who lost out on Austaras and Veles. I would have liked to have a friend put in for Lyra on my behalf to increase my chances, but sadly I'm not in a position financially to buy two heads if we both win lol. I'm really trying hard to mentally prepare myself for losing. I've resisted buying anything for him yet to prevent getting attached, but the truth is I am SOOO attached. Gah!!! Fingers crossed it's a big batch!

 

I'm also trying not to get excited for it since my default is to assume I will lose a lottery and also assume that this will go like Austaras and Veles T_T. I just really hope it doesn't go like their lottery because OMG, their 2nd hand prices even on Xianyu


I'm prepared to have to find Lyra on the 2nd hand market but I'm really hoping he stays in the Hayato range in that regard too. Basically, please just be like Hayato's everything.

 

Same here. Lyra is beautiful, we all love Mori's works but daunting about the size.
I did ask her in person if she would release more 68-70 heads in the future, she said she prefers 75 size

I couldn't handle a size larger than 70, especially for the boy sculpts. But we still have some choices from the collaboration with other manufacturers. I own a Huayue from Universedoll, he's very beautiful.

 

Oh I know. I paid big bucks for my Austaras However he was 100% accurate to one of my characters so I HAD to get him no matter what and I regret nothing!!! I love Lyra too but not to that level. So yeah if I lose the lottery and secondhand prices skyrocket, I'm out.

Darn! I already struggle with my one 75cm, and I feel kind of silly attempting to get another one. I don't know what I'll do if Mori keeps putting out sculpts I love... maybe force them to share bodies?! I would definitely prefer smaller heads but sometimes Mori's faces are too beautiful for me to resist...

 

Ah, same... I bought a JR Shick Vadim (and a Hyperon, though I'd been wanting one for over a decade ;; so that's something I'd sort of planned for, unlike Vadim), and now I'm vying for Lyra and wondering what I'm going to do with this sudden influx of heads that go on 75cm bodies, none of which I even particularly like so far. So I guess I get to wait it out a bit and hope for better, more varied bodies to come out.

I'm also hoping to get Doma once the details about his rerelease come out. 4 75cm dolls, likely all in different skintones... where do they even go?

 

Me and a local doll pre order shop I asked them to help entering the lottery just got an email from Mori. Both of us won Lyra so it looks like I end up with 2 Lyra heads instead of 1

I think now Mori is generous in giving out W to her lottery pre order application so I expect a lot of winners for Lyra!

I’m really excited. I accidentally bought a large 1/3 bust stand for a LUTS sdf head that ended up getting a body of his own ANYWAY, so… Lyra will go live on the bust stand when he gets here. I’m so excited to do his face because he looks SO different to the rest of my collection :3!!!!

 

Interestinggg, I had thought there must be ~100 winners, but all of ours are between 80 and 120. Maybe the invoice numbers continued from Mori's last lottery! :0

Not that it matters! I've just always been curious about how many heads are made

 

I also got to order! Coincidentally, my invoice was 105 which is also in the 80-120 range

 

I'm in too, invoice 117 got a grey and a white... me and my twins.... I'm so glad, he has such a beautiful face.

 

I also got Lyra! Mori missed a color on my first invoice (115), and my second invoice to correct it was 122!

 

I saw some people say they didn't get Hayato but haven't seen any of that this time around with Lyra. Thats awesome! I wonder if the demand was less or she increased capacity? She didn't have an order limit on this time (Hayato was 2 per person) and offered more colors so I assume more people this time got more than 1 too. Perhaps she still had a hard cap (but just didn't hit it this time around) so Lottery was the safest bet?

I just checked my invoice number for Hayato was 0014 but I also timed an email to send exactly when the lottery opened lol. This time with Lyra I waited until the next day during normal PST hours. I imagine the lower numbers are domestic orders since it released GMT.

 

I think there were losers on the CN/Weibo side of things, but so far I haven't seen anyone in the English speaking side of the hobby say they lost, which is really refreshing that we won't to have to go through multiple hoops to grab them off Xianyu.

I do think her "lottery" (at least this time) is more of a cover to just check entrants to make sure they aren't resellers/recast owners, etc, since she asks for your SNS.

 

Yes, I have a Weibo account and I did see a handful of people under the comment section saying that they didn’t get selected.

Mainland domestic orders use WW/zfb to pay so I doubt they use paypal invoices I was so close on entering the lottery on Weibo instead of Insta since I have heard that getting selected is easier if you order from mainland; but looks like it’s the opposite this time

 

That was my assumption too. It's kind of the only line of defense at this point.

 

I dunno. My socials don’t have a super ton of doll stuff on them and I don’t have any BJD terminology at all in my about (do I even have an about on insta?). I still got a spot. Maybe it’s just watching for like any obvious tells (like wonky looking dolls)?

 

Yeah I also figured she was using socials to confirm. I feel like as long as you weren't overtly sketchy you could still get a spot. Having an active or long standing account, even if not really about doll stuff would be better than one with nothing at all or a bunch of recent spammy like posts.

But the invoice numbers are not generated from Paypal, those have a completely different invoice number/transaction ID. I would guess they are more likely her internal system to keep track of orders.

Also quite a few people ordered multiples of heads as well so even with around 120 invoices I imagine theres probably at least 200 heads being made. So even those who missed out should be able to get one at a reasonable price later. I know for Hayato there were lots of order transfer up until shipping and WTS once they did ship on xianyu.

 

Paypal invoices have their own numbers that are separate from the transaction ID, which is only for payments. The invoice number is automatically generated by Paypal, but you can customize it yourself and then Paypal will automatically continue what you made. So if you typed in DOLL01, Paypal would autofill the next invoice with DOLL02. I believe Paypal's default is something like INV-001, so yeah Mori is probably using the invoice numbers to keep track of things. I think the numbers are a continuation from the Hayato orders, though, and like @lynox said the mainland buyers wouldn't use Paypal so there may be a whole different set of numbers associated with those orders... hmm!

Seems like it must be a nice big batch of Lyras. We have months to wait but I'm already excited to see everybody's Lyras painted and styled up!!! I saw someone on IG made an inspiration board for theirs and now I wanna make one too! I feel kinda bad, but... one of the main reasons I rationalized getting Lyra was because of all the 75cm clothes I love that would be out of character for my Austaras Sooo the entire basis for my Lyra's character is that he's very extra and will wear anything. I always feel guilty when one of my dolls only exists because of another doll but here I am doing it again! Oh my god and I need to think of a name for him. Aaaarrgghh

 

I suspect I'll be waiting at least a year until I do anything with my Lyra, but my inspiration for him is 90s visual kei/probably just sending a few photos of Atsushi Sakurai from that era to a faceup artist and having them to have fun with it. I ordered NS and WS, and I suspect I'm going to end up keeping the WS one, and that it might be easier to find a preexisting resin color to match to since the NS looks so peachy. I couldn't decide which one I liked better though since Mori's photos weren't that great, so I guess I'll pick which one I prefer when they arrive.

I also found out that the DF-H 75cm body that I was thinking of getting for him is uh, much larger than 75cm? I'm not sure how much that would affect clothing options. That was the only 75cm body from a company that offers color matching that I was willing to settle for, so now I'm back to waiting and hoping that Vings releases their 75cm and that I don't hate it and that it comes in a wide variety of colors like their smaller bodies have been available in T_T

I think most people I know wound up with at least 2 Lyras, so that's a lot of Lyras for me locally, at least!

 

Hehe I know I've seen comments on Mori's posts saying they were reminded of Atsushi Sakurai I really liked the Amano vibes a lot of Mori's photos had, so that's the direction I'm going in with my Lyra! I got white skin he will probably have dark eyes and lipstick with light hair. I've also been playing a lot of Zelda lately so I might do some Fierce Deity inspired facepaint/tattoos I like the thin eyebrows Mori usually paints on him but... I don't know if I can help myself and might give him big eyebrows. lol His lips are kind of interesting because sometimes they look serious but other times a little smirky. I might try for a smirk since my Austaras is so serious.

 

I agree! He's reminiscent Amano art x Atsushi and I'm here for it! I'd been wanting to make a 90s VK inspired doll for years now so I guess Lyra gets to be the one. I also really like the thin eyebrows Mori has been painting on her Lyra samples, and was planning to do a mockup to see how he'd look with those thin, half eyebrows that Atsushi has too >w<. I honestly don't think Lyra's face is all that similar to Atsushi's, but the vibes are just right to where I think using photos of Atsushi for inspiration works really well?

I'm really excited to see how they all end up looking! I know we're a long ways off so I'm going to be chomping at my bit until they start arriving.

 

Ah I see what you mean. I've worked supply chain before so I was assuming she was using a system on her end to keep track overall orders rather than have a different set of ones for domestic and international. It's usually what even small businesses would do to maintain efficiency as all the orders would be placed to the supplier or caster in this case as one order so going between two different invoicing systems to would be extra work. But I have to remember these are small artists who probably are likely doing it all out of excel and probably aren't using even basic business software lol.

 

My Lyra is going to get done up like Gwi from Scholar Who Walks the Night and then probably live on a bust stand until they start making 75cm doll bodies that I vibe with and complete my office renovation. Lol

I was poking around on DF-H's Taobao and the listing for that body actually says it's 78cm with a head (why is he a 75, then?!), so you were close. I think most of the extra height is in its legs, but the torso looks like it might be bigger. I asked Steppencat if they'd tried dressing him up yet and how badly 75cm clothes fit, so hopefully they'll be able to answer me.
The feet look real big too. It's so far my favorite of the existing 75cm* bodies though, but it's bigger than what I'd wanted to put Lyra on I wish there were slimmer 75cm bodies, but for the shoulders to balance out the head size of most dolls meant for 75cm bodies, you'd probably have to scale it up to 80cm anyway.
So far the Bodies-for-Lyra situation is so dire that I can't believe I'm actually considering hunting down a cream white ID75 and hoping for the best.

@idrisfynn that will depend on how fast I can decide on a body and faceup artist for them, haha! I'm not making any decisions until I have them in hand

I did get a few of my 70+ bodies back from blushing so I can try my Hayato on them! That should give me a better idea of how Mori's 75 heads fit on various bodies, but that's assuming Lyra will be similar to Hayato... I don't know how much variation there is in size and neck hole shape between their various releases

Perhaps we should have a big body testing party when all our blank Lyras arrive! I think between all of us, we have a big variety of bodies covered @Grimalkin is local, too!

That's Mori's photo that inspires me the most, too! I'm sure my faceup will be clearly inspired by it, kind of unusual for me since I think most of my dolls look nothing like how their makers styled them

I'm not even going to say how many need faceup much less everything else (what are shoes anyway), so I probably had no business doing what I just did either. at least they can share bodies but I'm still so excited to be able to get them and to see how you all style them

 

YEAH EXACTLY. Plus I think the drapey/floaty robes will be easiest to mock up for a bust stand until I go absolutely bananas and get him a proper body…

I will probably wait until I see the head on some other bodies too if nothing particularly “perfect” is in the cards by the time he arrives, but he’s supposed to come by like… the fall so I’m not too worried about it for now.

 

That black lips photo is also my biggest inspiration for what I want to do with him. He just looks so good like that!

I've got a Mori/DF-H LuXian as well, but since his body was bought for another head that's never coming off that body, I'm not sure if I want to keep him now since I much prefer Lyra (to the point where I'm more likely to keep both Lyras >w<) and am looking for the future for what to do with a Doma as well too, whenever we find out more about his and Luke's rerelease through better channels.

 

Mori announced their new collaboration with SartoriaJ on Weibo. The heads Hu and Xi will be sold on SartoriaJ's new 75 EX body, which has added thigh mobility joints.

The release is time limited and ends 7/2.

Hu: LIMITED HU_75 EX / 75 ZEUS

Xi: LIMITED XI_75 EX / 75 ZEUS

I think I'm safe from this release, but if Doma and Luke end up moving to SJ, I would be quite ok with that

Edited to add that there's a 20% discount for this release. Mori's post says it's for the 75 EX body, but I don't see a difference adding that to my cart vs 75 ZEUS so idk

 

Not a big fan of SJ bodies, IDK why cause I do like beefy boys, can't put my finger on it lol. I will say I do appreciate the fact SJ does custom faceups, long layaway and the body and the hand tattoos look great for both of them. The clothes too actually! I'd love to buy the clothes especially Xi's but looks like Xi's clothes are sold out for non fullset orders and tbh Hu set doesn't look worth the price tag to me considering what $200 for a set can get you on Taobao.

As for the sculpts Hu is cute! I can definitely see Mori in him but Xi, while beautiful, reminds me more of a Soom boy. I am leaning more towards Xi if I had to choose one though. It's still a pass for me but I hope to see what others do with these sculpts.

 

Hmm, I like SartoriaJ's other boy bodies but not this one as much. Anyway, Hu is so cute!! To me he looks like a mix of Austaras and Hayato. And I agree that Xi has Soom vibes (not a bad thing of course). The only reason I'd be disappointed if there were more Mori/SJ collabs is that SJ doesn't seem to do special resin colors very often.

 

What do I have to do to get profile shots of doll heads 8( these sculpts are gorgeous but what do they look like from the side!! Tell me, website!!!

 

After struggling to get custom eyes that actually fit or were the right color, I literally learned how to make eyes just so I could make one for Andras. I've finally made one that's just right! Also he looks amazing in this Saphar leather jacket!!

I bought 16/6 eyes for mine from ABO and they fit really well! I would link you the TB but it looks like there store isn't their anymore which is strange. This is their Weibo though, they haven't posted in a minute since May so hope everything is OK, maybe they rebranded? Not sure. They make really great eyes. But looks like you don't even need it anyway cause you made him such a great pair of eyes.

 

@RebelViva Thank you!! 16/6 is thankfully becoming a more common size, but my most favorite eye maker got the color wrong, and all my other favorite eye makers don't do irises that small or don't do custom eyes I've always wanted to get ABO eyes, they're so beautiful! But yeah, now with my newfound power I'm not sure how often I'll be buying eyes anymore

 

I finally re-assembled my LLT Ballerino body that came back from body blushing and tried out Hayato on it.

Hayato is slightly big on the body, but I think with clothes and a wig, it'd be passable. For those of you who'd like a 70 body for your Mori9 heads, this could be an option if you're not too picky.

While I was at it, I also tried Hayato on the Dollstown 18 body (officially, 73cm) as well as the Studio Naiko Prometheus 75 body (which I'd bought specifically for Hayato months ago but didn't get around to looking at until now )

I personally like Hayato on the Studio Naiko 75 body the most. The neck on the Dollstown 18 body is a little too short for me. Strangely, even though Dollstown lists the 18 body as 73cm it looks to be close in height to the Naiko 75. Perhaps there'd be a height difference if both bodies had heads on them...

My finger slipped...twice...recently so I have a couple more Mori9 boys coming that I'll likely try on various bodies as well If anyone would like any reference photos, feel free to let me know! Other 70-ish+ bodies I have in my possession are the Dollshe Mystic (70), Dollshe Arsene (69), Dollshe Super Model Classic (70), Pygmalion Doll TEIA V2 (71), Angell Studio 74cm, and Fifth Motif Timeless (70).

 

Hey guys, I was eyeballing Dollzone's new 75cm body for Lyra, but decided against it because his gigantic 21cm shoulders wouldn't fit into Idealian sized clothing. (Idealian 75 shoulders are 17cm). But I think some of Mori's heads might look really good on this body! So I thought I'd share for your consideration

I don't remember when Lyras are supposed to ship, but I am doing my best to be patient.

 

Oooh yeah that 21cm shoulder is the same shoulder as The Voice boy sizing. I quite like my Hayato on The Voice body so should look good on DZ as well!

I have more thicc boys on the way (I am personally liking the Dika doll or 2d thicc bodies) but I did want my Lyra to fit into ID75 so I am thinking of the Miracle Doll 72cm which close to ID75 measurements on the upper body. The shoulder width and arm length is the same (17 & 23cm respectively) and the chest and waist are only 1cm smaller. The neck is .5cm smaller which shouldn't be a huge issue either. Only thing is Miracle legs are a few cm thinner/danitier but still a masculine body overall. I can deal with loose pants but its usually the tops that are the bigger issue on fit so looking pretty good here unless you needed those extra cm of height.

 

Oooh I don't think I've seen that Miracle Doll body before? Unless I forgot It might work for my Lyra, because most importantly I want him to fit Idealian clothes, but also I personally always wished the Idealian body had a smaller waist. And I love my Austaras on the Idealian 72 body so the height should be good (I was actually hoping to not go any taller than him, because 72cm is enough of a juggernaut for me omg). My only concern is Miracle Doll's big feet! 10.5cm! Will have to research shoes.

 

I've been following this creator for a while now, but I don't know whether they ever sell the same sculpts after they've closed the preorders. I really wish to get some of this creator's art to my hands, but I don't know whether they sell each sculpt only once.

 

To my knowledge, the heads that Mori sells direct have never been rereleased. Maybe they could be in the future, but so far they haven't been. As for collabs (like with Universedoll), I'm not sure.

 

I emailed Mori9 about a year ago, they confirmed they don't rerelease sculpts, at least sculpts they produce themselves.

But my Ciel just got to my agent! Hopefully others come soon too!
