Moggie61 transaction [Moggie's Toyshop]

Jun 4, 2008

    1. I've heard someone on the Australian groups mailing list talk about visiting Moggie at his house before. I've emailed her to see if she's heard anything from him. From what she said in her post awhile back, it sounds like there's no actual store and it's more a work from home thing.

The Australians involved in the transactions might want to ask on the Angels AU Mailing List and on LJ community dollie_cafe (since I think he's based in Victoria?) if anyone could contact him personally. I'm not actually involved in any transactions with him, so it might be a little strange for me to page him on communities.

    2. There are a LOT of us who still haven't received refunds or merchandise and I think everyone who has posted here with complaints have done so legitimately. Would you be able to go ahead and post the contact information you have? I know some time ago, you contacted the Warburton police and they were going to send you a packet of information...whatever came of that? Was there anything that might be helpful to us?

    3. I've received a reply from the lady on the mailing list. This is her reply:

I cannot confirm the story as true or not. Are there any questions any of you would like to ask her? I am reluctant to release her email address without her permission (though, if I can find her, it's not obscure).

I'm asking if she can confirm that the address on his website is his home.

    4. ...convenient.

    5. I checked out Moggie's profile on fetlife and he explains what happened in detail so I think he is actually telling the truth.

    6. Has anyone tried looking up the address on the website to see if there are any newspaper articles or anything of the sort to see if his house really burned down? If it made the news it would be accessible via internet or austrailian news sites. Other than that keep hounding him guys and hang in there, this has become ridiculous and I believe he should be banned from this site. I ordered from him some time ago on ebay and luckily everything went smoothly I hate to discover he's screwed so many people over and is now living on stolen money...what a bastard.

    7. In the post on fetlife begging for clothes, toys, money, furniture, shoes, bedding, silverware, a new car, all of the essential things :|
they list his bank account. Surely that will help track him down?

    8. That was me :) My room-mate from way back did a trip out to the address supplied on the website at my request, there was no-one there at the time and Claire said there was junk mail stuffed/hanging out of the mailbox which led her to believe (in HER opinion) that no-one had been there for a bit. I didn't see it myself so I can only post what she told me.,

As for what the "package" the Victorian police sent me was just pamphlets and nothing truly specific or helpful...

I have to wait untill I go to work tomorrow and I'll post all the information I have here for contacting the Warburton Police.

I thought EXACTLY the same thing so I had a fairly thorough search of the internet and have turned nothing up -I'm going to make a couple of calls and see what I find out...

edit: This is the phone number for Warburton Police 03)59669000 No-one is there today (Friday 17th) but they have my details and I called again asking fro information on a "house-fire" in the area. Warburton is a small town so its very unlikely anything as serious as a house burning down would go unnoticed. I tried ringing the Country Fire Association with no-luck it appears all of the numbers in the white pages are either inccorrect or disconnected...?

Mods: For the record I have no outstanding funds owing from Moggie I did a charge-back on my CC. However I would sincerely like to help others who were not so fortunate, hence my continued involvement.

    9. whitewings: That's excellent your looking into it! I'll do the same. ;)

pureanathema: Are you telling me he's actually asking for all those things?! Is there a number or contact address to reach him? If so post it! As for the bank account I wouldn't see any way for that to be of service, but who knows.

    10. I PMed you with a screencap

    11. You know what it sounds like...another scam...seriously it basically reads: If you'd like to donate here's our bank accounts with our hands held out wide open suckers! They claim that the Red Cross Foundation is helping them, sounds like the RCF in their area needs to be notified...

Would you mind if I or yourself pureanathema posted the link you pm'ed me? As they posted it on a public site it shouldn't be a problem.

    12. Ah, there was someone else who went to his house before and sounded like they were friends with him. She was the one I emailed and who replied with the explanation that the house burned down.

As far as I can find (very quick search since I don't have time), there has been a small fire reported on the same street in the same suburb that is supplied on his website. It does not state the exact address and I do not know if the website's address is his house so again, it cannot be confirmed:

      http://209.85.173.104/search?q=cach...ent+street+warburton&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=au

What was stated on the website:
13 WARBURTON KENT ST 05/10/2008 20:18:00 STRUCTURE CONTROLLED SMALL 6

It occured on the 5th Oct, so it doesn't really explain why refunds weren't made before then, if it is his house.

Hopefully, a more comprehensive search and calls might yield more details. Good luck guys.

    13. Yeah...I'm a little dubious, not to mention if you were desperate for thousands of dollars that you owed people that you could not pay back, might you not consider claiming insurance on your house?

If the money owed were just for Moggie's own creations and it had been due to some circumstances that had caused him and Inanna to have to stop work for a while, thus delaying shipment and putting them into debt...that would be one thing. But to take hundreds of dollars on multiple dolls that were then never bought from DZ and shipped...well, you just don't pay off your debts with and/or spend money that IS NOT YOURS, is not FOR YOUR PRODUCT.

If he truly is having this happen, well, I am truly sorry, but I feel like he has been discovered all over the internet (ebay, here, Resinality, etc) as a scammer, and it's hard for me to just trust openly that someone who has taken money from so many others is taking real donations that will be used for only necessary items.

    14. When searching on google with: "warburton" + "kent st" + "house fire" I found this:

      18:35:49, 05-10-08, @@ALERT F081001842 WARB1 STRUC1 HOUSE FIRE 20 KENT ST WARBURTON /SUSSEX ST //SUSSEX ST M 289 J2 (833216) WARB WBRN [WARB]

This was an old posting on a site that records emergency calls. Clicking the link leads to the updated page that only goes to the 15th. The house fire is real it seems, but I think I would have to agree with wildefae that he and his wife may be trying to get insurance monies. You may want to contact the authorities in the area because he may be trying to commit fraud on top of all his other scams.

    15. Good grief.

This is looking more and more insurmountable as time goes on.

    16. I'm really sad to hear that most of you guys haven't gotten a refund yet... When I first got into the hobby, I was going to buy my first doll from his shop online. I'm glad I didn't.

Also, he should have more than enough money to get a new place to live, seeing as how much money he's stolen from you guys. *_*

    17. I was about to post to say that Ian had lost his house and the majority of his possessions in a fire. He hasn't forgotten you guys, he's just trying to find a place to live.

    18. That happened 10 days ago.
He said he was giving refunds in July.
      Seriously?

    19. *shrugs* I don't know anything about refunds, mainly because I'm not involved. I just know that a friend of mine is having a really hard time right now and having everything in his life burnt isn't the greatest help.

    20. Pandagirl, considering no one has heard from him since September 8th, I'm pretty sure that the fire doesn't have to do with his previous lack of communication.

I do, however, feel awful for their loss. My house burned down last year, and it was a very hard thing to go through, and I am especially sad to hear about their pets...

    21. hrm well he said my dolls were in the fire too....

yes i am baffled on this.... like seriously WT*

now i really need to go and cry somewhere....

    22. This is what really ticks me off above all else; Kagari; Moggie posted back in August that he'd get your dolls back ASAP. If he had time/money to issue refunds, why on earth didn't he send back your dolls?!

His behavior has been inexcusable and I do urge everyone who has not been refunded to get some sort of formal complaint together as a group and contact the authorities. It is difficult with an international case such as this, but the law will only allow formal action to be taken for a certain amount of time. Moggie used his good reputation to scam you; it's gone on too long for me to believe otherwise and this house fire seems suspicious to me as well.

I wish the best for all of you that have lost on this, but urge you to take action as soon as possible. There are no friends in business and Moggie will look out for Moggie first.

    23. well he did msn me to tell me, and i been like away from DoA for a abit and stuff, but still i guess i cannot try to start to comprehend it yet....

right now i am feeling abit sad and numb....

he did ask me to tell him the i want as compensation, but somehow to me ATM the things that was burned is somewhat irreplacable.... so yeah

the delay in shipping was becos of some stuff which i cannot remember but yes he did promise to ship them out ASAP... :(

    24. OK, to end the speculation that seems to be going on here............

I have net access at the moment as someone has given us an old laptop and the house we are staying at has a live internet connection. The house belongs to a friend of a friend who is overseas at the moment so we have a roof over our heads for the next few weeks.

Yes, the house burned down. Yes, it was my fault, i was cooking and left fat on the stove.

No, we didn't do it for the insurance. A little hard when there was no insurance. It was one of those bills that put aside while we cleared up other things like refunds.

Just about everything went up in flames. A few dolls survived as they were with friends and two were in our car at the time. We got out with the dogs and the clothes we were wearing at the time. One cat died in the fire, two more are missing.

I'll address a couple of comments here.......

We haven't done any begging on Fetlife. That is all being organised by people in the local community and we have not asked for anything ourselves. Our involvement has been to the extent of offering thanks, we did not start it. We are accepting the help that has been offered because we basically have no choice. Silverware? I don't think so unless you are listing stuff that has been offered and kitchen/cutlery counts as silverware. A new car? No, I damaged a door on the car getting it out of the way of the fire and someone asked if it might be fixed by a panelbeater if someone knew one.

The bank account was listed as people were asking if they could donate cash through an account to help. The cash I listed came from donation tins at a local BDSM club and I was thanking people and letting them know what was raised.

Do you really think that the Red Cross is that naive that they wouldn't check out someones story? Their assistance was organised through the social worker at the local hospital where I was taken for smoke inhalation. The Red Cross provided accomodation for two nights and bought us a set of clothes, a hairbrush each, and some toiletries.

We have also receivd some more clothes from another charity, some cash from a government agency and the Salvation Army and what we have been given is all that we have in the world at the moment, apart from the car and surviving dolls/dogs.

Well, we do have a block of land which will now be sold to pay off all our debts and that should include everyone on here. The local council have scraped the remains of the house off it by now.

For the moment, any further refunds are on hold. I have stopped all sales of items which are normally made by us. We are meeting current orders from companies which I detailed way earlier in this thread as we can have these delivered to whereever we happen to be at the time.

Once we have found somewhere to live, then we can recommence refunds to those that are supposed to be getting them. As you can imagine, finding a more permanent roof to put over our heads is sort of a priority at the moment.

Please don't bother with false expressions of sympathy now, we know where we stand with the members of DOA. If you are going to comment then get your facts straight and don't bother blowings claims up to make us look worse.

For the record, we don't want any help from anyone on here nor do we want any PM's unless they relate to business.

    25. WTH? Why'd my post get deleted? I'm a party to this issue!

    26. Please keep this thread on topic and only post actual updates. Any other post will be deleted going forward.

    27. Moggie, I have sent you a PM concerning an order via your site.

    28. Are there any updates regarding payment, Moggie?

    29. No update on when payments will start again.

We have found a house to rent and will be moving in on the 21st.

    30. Thank you for stopping by here, Moggie. I'm glad you've found a place to live.

Might I suggest that, starting at the front of the list, payments be done in installments to a few people at a time? I feel that it'll be easier for you guys in your current state to come up with 5, 10, or 20 dollars at a time than to ever find hundreds of free dollars to pay back to someone.

    31. i have an update to this thread. i received some of my order today from Moggies. the items are beautiful, and were shipped well. my order status says that the rest of the order will ship when the items have been made. i want to thank Ian for making the effort to send my order during this difficult time.
he truly is making an effort to make this situation right. my best wishes.

    32. Has anyone noticed that Mogie's website is not only still taking orders, but has been updated to reflect holiday promotions, and states they are doing preorders, etc?

    33. .... Yeah.. I just looked and that makes me really irritated and mad.

Moggie, there better be a good reason for that.

    34. He pointed out in his reply:

If you check the website, they aren't selling anything but stuff for which they're the agents: none of their own work.

I think whether or not this is the RIGHT thing to do is a moot point - it is consistent with what he CLAIMS to be doing.

    35. The problem with that is he was/is an agent for DollZone but was not placing orders with them. That is how he stole my money. He never ordered my doll. So how does anyone know he is not doing the same thing again? He should shut down and get a job even if its flipping burgers until he pay us back!
Can some one check to see if he is placing orders with the companies he agents for?
      Whatever he has not learned yet. Think on this;
Moggie stole from us, then his house burned down(IF that is true, I aint sure). It looks to me like the Universe/karma/whatever was trying to teach him right from wrong. If it were me I would listen, he said everyone made it out alive. What will the Universe/karma/whatever have to take from him next to get its point across if he is up to his old tricks again?
I still don't like my odds of getting my money back, or if he is still an agent of DollZone a doll either.
JUST STAY AWAY! Don't even try shopping with him!
I still want my money back!!!! try PMing me with info if you can Moggie

    36. I hate to say this hun, but we already know all this and people can tell from reading through the thread.

Yes his house did burn, but we're not positive if he did it himself or not. Only the fire department can determine the cause of the blaze.

Yes he did steal from us, and we can either: A. Hope he pays us back after he gets his life back on track, B. Contact Authorities with as many people whom have been stolen from and hope that it will do something, C. Anything else we can think of.

That is why we created this thread, to warn others and other forums are warning people as well.. We are just wondering why he is even bothering to keep his store up after all this.. We all know not to buy from him and we spread the word as best as we can.

And Dollzone and any other company can be contacted by just an email to ask if he is ordering.. Which I HIGHLY DOUBT that he is.

You aren't the only one wanting their money back, I'm still out over a hundred bucks and some people are well over that amount. You have to be Patient like the rest of us, some have been waiting for refunds for a very long time.

    37. FFS! Yes his house burnt down. It was a freaking kitchen fire.

He is currently in the process OF MOVING TO A RENTAL HOUSE and getting important things, like clothes and well, everything he owned really.

He is doing what he can to refund people what he can. But that's generally hard WHEN YOU HAVE NOTHING!

Yes, I understand people are upset and need their refunds, but seriously what happened to human kindness and empathy?

Would he still be accused of burning his house down if it was a bushfire? Or an earthquake? I mean I know Moggie is the all powerful but I've yet to see him start an earthquake.

    38. I know what you mean, and I do feel bad for him~ He seems like a nice guy that has bad things happen to him.

    39. ....I think at this point there aren't many people questioning that the fire actually happened. And I AM genuinely sorry that he's going through such a shit time right now. No one deserves to lose everything.

Since he's come here I'm much more willing to believe what he says. Before now it seemed like he seriously didn't care. And I think that's part of the problem.

But the fact of the matter is, this is not the beginning of the problem. People have been owed dolls, merchandise, etc -- and hundreds of dollars - for months. They've been promised refunds since long before the fire, and owed them since before that. So the fire doesn't explainwhy the refunds haven't been delivered. Especially in the case of dolls and merchandise that weren't made by him, there's no reason that should have gotten off schedule. And if there was a problem with any of it he should have been in contact.

So if people were skeptical at first, that's why. You have to understand, it's simply baffling why he's been AWOL for all this time and why it's taken so long to get any money back when he could have taken steps immediately to stop the problem.

I don't think just because someone has horrible things happen to them it means they're a good person and I think Moggie has to earn that trust back from us. It doesn't mean I'm not sympathetic to the tragedy - it's awful - but in no way does it explain the situation, it merely prolongs it unfortunately for both parties.

    40. i don't know if anyone noticed my earlier post, but i "did" receive some of the goods that i ordered months ago! it was everything except the items that they make themselves, so they "are" making an effort to do the right thing during this most difficult time.

    41. I hadn't seen that post - that's really good to know!! I'm glad :)

    42. I know bad things happen to good people - heck I had a house fire back in 01. So I know what it is like. And because I have been there I know its hard to bounce back.
But that does not excusse Moggie from his bad acts.

Here is something you might not know this post was up and going when I ordered my doll from Moggies on EBay. The only way I found DOA is becouse I had trouble getting my doll and could not contact Moggie.

So he was already haveing trouble by the time he took my order.
If he cared he would have stopped taking orders. I am out $399.79, and was promised a refund by the end of Oct.
The only reason I know Moggie is not dead is cause every so often he pops up here. Or someone else posts about him. He has my email address, and home address, can 't he bother to contact me? No apperently not. I have done all that I can. And I am waiting, but it should not have taken this long anyway.

      Has anyone gatten a refund?
Can anyone vouch that this has happened? Or is this all smoke and mirrors? Is Moggie even trying to pay us back? That would be a start - to get a few answers.

    43. Miss Ally has confirmed that she did receive a refund.

    44. Yes, Moggie has paid several people back - most of them should be catalogued in this thread. And yes, his house did burn down, and that's been backed up by other people on another forum, and there was also some sort of notice in the local area website or something.

    45. Is he still repaying people? I have a friend from another group who is still waiting to hear from Moggie regarding her order. She is owed approx $130 and Moggie won't contact her. She hasn't heard from him since July. She even contacted Dollzone and they responded that he is still ordering from them and had recently placed a big order.

    46. I ordered shoes and 3 pairs of eyes from moggie this summer. Never got them. They never answered my emails. By the time I waited the 30 days for the "preorder", and then the additional days for ebays waiting period for a response, it was too late to do a chargeback. A super bad experience for me, and nothing to show for it.

    47. Leopards don't change their spots.
Hopefuly he's not ripping anymore people off.
He also seems to have dropped off the net compleatly.
Does anyone know how to reach him to ask when we are going to get our money back?

    48. I've asked Moggie to post an update here

    49. OK, an update. We have moved into our rental accomodation. Net access is restored. The refund side of things will be able to begin again in the new year. I should be able to access some of the funds held in my superannuation account just after the new year as there were certain criteria which had to be met before I could do that. Seems that losing your house and everything in a fire doesn't count as financial hardship.

We are also going to be selling the land that the house stood on but that may take a bit longer.

It will be a help if those who are still owed money or have received partial refunds, can let me know the date of the transaction and the amounts as all the records I melted with the computer. I can recontruct some but Paypal really have a bizarre way of recording things that is almost impossible to wade through.

As far as the store being updated, I said ages ago in this thread that current orders are being met and any funds left over from them will be used to make refunds which is why the store remains open. Things that we made ourselves are on hold indefinitely as we need to replace machines and tools before we can produce them.

Can we put this whole idea that I burned my house down for fun and profit to bed. I repeat...... no insurance takes all the motivation out of the idea of burning the house down deliberately. Furthermore, if I was going to burn it down on purpose, do you really think I wouldn't remove the most valuable stuff out first?

I'm in the wrong here but I'll be damned if I'll let people speculate about me starting fires..........

    50. Thanks Moggie for letting us know what's happening, and all the best for selling that land. I'll PM you my transaction details now (if I can find them...)

    51. I am not involved in this but someone mentioned a really good idea and I thought it best to post it here.

One of you involved parties should take the responsibility to keep a list in one post of everyone here missing money/goods/date/status so that it is a matter of public record who is owed. The post could be updated ( much like a G.O. thread) and edited as need be to reflect any refunds, etc. given to individuals. That way you wouldn't all have to wonder and at least it would give you something concrete to go by to see if any progress is being made in this matter.

      Best of luck

    52. That's a pretty good idea. I'm happy to do the job. I'll start compiling the list now, and if anyone would like to add to it, just reply to this thread.

Sorry if the list is a bit messy. All of this information was catalogued by searching through the thread. If you don't want your name up here - sorry, but this list is for the public record so I won't take your name down, though I will take off what you ordered if you'd prefer.

    53. Thanks for doing that Chizzie, it will help me out as well as far as reconstructing things.

    54. Thanks Moggie, hopefully this new year will bring some new luck. And thanks Chizzie for all that hard work.

    55. My gf (who does not have DOA access) ordered several large items through moggie and they were destroyed in the fire. However, they were re ordered and received recently in a very timely fashion. We never doubted that we would get our goods, and certainly didn't expect them to be replaced so quickly

The service and communication were great, we have no complaints at all, and are very happy to order from them again. In fact, we both placed another large order immediately and will continue to order through moggies.

We both wish them well in getting things settled and sorted. They are good people, to whom bad things have happened..... now they are setting things straight and deserve a bit of compassion.

    56. Thanks, Chizzie, for putting that post together. It will be big help to Moggie, I'm sure.

And I want to second Moggie's request. The house fire topic should be off-limits and I'm glad that he's getting back on his feet for his own sake, not ours.

    57. Just posting some feedback. I ordered a wig, Dollzone head, Dollzone hands and eyes from Moggie. They arrived exactly when their website said they would and Ian answered my emails in a prompt manner. Thanks.

    58. Post #293 updated. I hope you all have a wonderful new year, especially you Moggie.

    59. It's really good to hear that people are receiving their shop orders as expected! It's definitely making me feel more confident that all will be set right.

Hopefully this will help everyone involved: those feeling scammed by reassuring them; Moggie and family with money to help their current situation, and to set things right with those who need refunds; those who are out money; and those who, y'know, like shiny objects ;)
