Misty Blue Bambicrony elves discussion!

Jan 29, 2007

    1. OMG, those are awesome!
      They're so cute and adorable!

    2. Almost forgot to note here something that I followed up on - I had a thought and discussed it with a Korean friend. In Japan, a ton of the culture is directly traceable to Korea, particulary the language.

So... in Japanese, the word Midori means green, but is fairly specific to a range that does *not* match the range we think of as green. It is the word for sharp, clear greens that move from (very green, argh, this is difficult to specify and you will see why in a moment) emerald into the yellow range. The word Ao is blue, and the range that it covers is not only everything Americans and Northern Europeans think of as "blue" but also anything as green as one of the milder-colored green street lights that Americans totally think of as green. Juniper greens are blue. My misty blue is really aqua if I were to try to think of a good American word for her color, and as such, I completely think of her as blue, but I realize this is much further into the green range than Americans usually go with "blue" - and looking at her body she is a good match for the color on the original images from the BC site. The original images have some blue tint in the blushing that makes the faces more blue, but the bodies are where I compared to mine.

So I wondered, is this something that Japanese culture shares with Korean, and if so is the whole "misty blue" issue simply a color concept translation problem. Katieya took a look at my girl and agrees with me, she says in Korean culture it's exactly the same. This would not be a color that would be included in the range of "green," it has a clear shading of blue so it is "blue." As some folks' resin yellows, it will probably be further into the range that Americans/Europeans consider green, but I do think that the base problem in expectations came from a translation issue.

It's kind of funny because I "blink my eyes and see differently." Japanese eyes: Oh, it's very blue, misty blue is a perfect graceful term. American eyes: Oh, it's green! What were they thinking? Japanese eyes: Oh, it's totally blue. American eyes: Scrubs green!!! LOL

But - kind of important because colors like Peach vs. Pink could also be a problem - the color Japanese call "peach" is *very* pink, so I'll keep an eye out as they release more of these to see if the same sort of thing looks likely, and kibitz with Katieya on Korean likelihoods of color as more come out.

Now, the purple slate grey ones, I can not explain other than resiny weirdness. *grin*

My .02... rather behind the times....
      B

    3. bekka_alice--Interesting point... People DO think of colors differently. I actually don't think the MBs look green at all. I think they do look slightly aqua-blue or turquoise blue--blue towards the green spectrum... but definitely more blue than green. Although I do see that they don't look pure blue, as most people would think of blue...

      Other news!

      My LSG Pepe Arrived.

Nice things: I got a free gift... BOOTS! Wow!

And an envelope of 9 photoprints and three pieces of candy or something--
      [IMG]

I received all the pieces--cloud wings, flame wings, two pairs of hands, elastic, light violet glass eyes (which is what I asked for... although I think I will swap them out for purple souldoll eyes which are a brighter purple).

Other good thing--the color is pretty even, and more the grey (not berry purple) color of the later LSG batches, which is OK with me (even-ness being the most important).

However, there are some little odd things going on... He's got spots. The sort of look like light scratches in the resin, but they are not rough, but smooth and flat and can't be scraped or lightly sanded off (maybe deeper sanding, but I haven't tried that and probably won't--it doesn't bother me THAT much). Here are some photos, but they don't show up well in photos--
      [IMG]

And his right foot is super-shiny! Same color, but shiny. Ah, well...

... he's got nice boots to cover that up! Hehehe.

Just thought the marks were weird. They aren't patches of fading, like what has been reported. It's almost like bubbles in the resin, but the surface is smooth. Or maybe as if the resin is cracking or flaking, but it's smooth... Very strange. Or maybe a badly cleaned mold? I have no idea!

Luckily, clothes should cover up most of it. And they really don't show up that much in photos... And I still like the faceup, so I'll live with it.

I'll need to take "official" photos later (what a poor way to introduce my poor Nightshade!). *_*

Just thought I'd post in case anyone has an idea of what the marks could be--and because I'm curious if anyone else has seen something like that on their dolls.

    4. Definitely have to agree with that. It's amusing how frustrated my somewhat more ignorant friends get when talking with my japanese friends about things. They no longer mention colours xD. There was a huge argument about traffic lights and the colour of the sky. It was quite funny and, being the devil I am, I did not intervene until some rather crude words started flying.

Back on topic, misty blue elves are, in the East-Asian view, just that - BLUE XD

    5. bekka alice, I never thought of it before but you make a valid point. It IS the same in Korean. We say 'parang' as a color, which would literally translate as blue, but for us the sky is parang, the grass is parang, the sea is parang, and traffic lights are parang. Although there is a separate word for green, it normally indicates true green and is not used in a broad, traditional sense.

And april, my MB Pepe has the same 'spots' speckled here and there but unless you take a close-up shot, it really isn't that visible so I just take it as what it is. Doesn't bother me either. Oh, and that 'candy' is eat-it-like-candy vitamin C, btw.

    6. April your Pepe is gorgeous, I hope the spots don't bother you. Maybe they're birthmarks on her planet?

    7. No, I'm not bothered much by the spots, just curious!

Oh... and I replaced the eyes and discovered that Viya signed and dated the inside --and also put "For April" in there! That was so sweet! (although I guess they had to make sure the proper head got to me!) Still, a nice touch! :)

And I so love the boots!!! My boy can be as spotty as he wants if they Make Nice like that! (I'm easy!) :D

(although... just tried putting the boots on... had to lace the boots and buckle them up, since the buckles are on top of the back zipper... grrr... although... have to admit, I've had that problem with more buckles on big SD-sized boots, too... *sigh* )

    8. April I think the spots are indeed scratches. The misty colored resin looks white when it gets a surface scratch. Also at least with Aisling she had dark and light areas of resin I think it's due to non homogeneity of the resin mix. not a disturbing thing to me. Adds a bit to uniqueness.

I'm thinking some parts of the colored elves are coated and the non shiny foot was not coated. They don't say they coat parts with msc but some dolls are and some dols are not.

Congrats on your new Pepe elf

    9. Oh April he's great. Good job on the boots also, and all of the little pictures of the new girls. OH, I CAN'T WAIT TILL THE NEW GIRLS START SHIPPING. :) :) :). I want my Pepe. :)

    10. April, my MR girls have those type spots on them and one of them has uncoated feet too so you see a difference between the girls. I too just think of them as things that make my dolls unique, though.

    11. Yeah, my un-face-upped pepe finally arrived on Saturday. :)

    12. So my LSG has some interesting spots too... They were there when I got him, but I gave him a bath and they got worse! They are actually part of the resin. Some of it kind of scratched off the surface without problem, but when I tried sanding the rest off I found it went really deep...

He was extremely shiney when I got him, so I wanted to give him a bath and clean off the white stuff... While I was at it I sanded down his seams nicely.

Anyways, here's a picture of some of his birthmarks that I can't get off... I won't post all of them, it would just take too long...

Also here's one that shows how different his colors are... When I got him all of the hands matched, but his forearm that is supporting his head did not match his upper arm and rest of the body, it is darker. That particular hand had been in the box for most of the time I had him, so it is even darker than his dark forearm, the gradient makes it hard to see, but there is definately a change in resin color... This part probably should go in the LSG yellowing forum, but I put it here while I put up the other picture...

    13. Wow, you got free $50 boots? *_* Gawdamn. Lucky.

Is there any way you'd be willing to part with the postcard/photo/whatever of the Mistyrose Pepe with the feather? :sweat I just love that image! Pwease?

    14. First off, congratulations on Nightshade coming home :)

My Kageru turned up yesterday evening as well!!

I didn't get boots but they included 2 cute wigs (as well as the postcards) which was very sweet of them :)

My Pepe seems to have the same resin peculiarities as your Pepe. Small white scratches & super shiney feet!!

I plan on sanding him sometime this weekend & then giving him a coat of Mr Super Clear. I'm hoping that'll take care of some of it...

Doesn't make me love him any less!! He's seriously cute :fangirl:

    15. Geesh, well, FINALLY! I wonder what took them so long? They can't blame the delay on ViYa, since it didn't have a faceup!!! Hmmm...! But, at least it arrived...!!!

I put a big THANK you message up on the Q&A board after I saw the photo of the faceup posted in the Gallery. They answered, saying they were putting in a Gift!

I guess, since I had already bought the extra hands and extra wings, they had to put in something else! But I thought it would be just something like the photos! The boots were super-nice of them!!! (I do wonder why, though? Just random gifts? Hmm? Guess I shouldn't look a Gift Horse in the Mouth, though!) ;)

Oh, so yours had the light specks, too? I guess it's just something with their manufacturing process, then... Interesting.

I'm glad yours got to you! I guess they all arrived at about the same time!

Celesse--Yeah, very lucky to get the boots! Particularly since I really liked that style and color. I might have ordered them if they'd been on sale when I made my doll order.

That MR with the feather is the only colored elf in the packet--and is a super-cute photo! If you want it, I can probably send it off to you... PM me with your addy.

FunnyLori--Hmmm... Yeah, some things washed off of mine, too--but I think that might have just been mold-release or something like that! I had some ridges along the head-cap and at the heels of his feet that washed off.

Too bad about parts getting worse, though!!! *_*

I only tried to lightly wipe mine with a damp cloth... but nothing happened. Didn't do a big wash, though!

And I was definitely checking for different colored parts! Mine looked pretty much the same color, at least...

Do you think that your marks are different from those people are reporting in the Yellowing Thread? I wasn't sure, myself, although I don't think they were saying there were distinct marks, just soft fading in parts. Hmmm...! I wasn't sure which thread to put my photos in... And I hadn't heard of the little scratch-like marks before... Just made me curious to know if others were like that!

AreeElf--Hmmm... Shiny means not coated? Interesting to know! Thanks!

Heheh... well, BC needs a bit work on the Quality Control... But their dolls are still too cute for words!

Thanks for all the comments and info, everyone! :)

    16. Ohh YAYYY thank you! :) PM'ing you~ :aheartbea

    17. I have some yellowing going on. But the majority of the markings that are on the doll were there from the beginning. Or they weren't visible until I tried giving him a bath. I think part of it was mold release and part of it is actually a difference in the resin. Like it marbled or something.

    18. I checked my MR Pepe over and I don't see any sign of the "scratches" or the difference in shininess. I got mine very early in the ordering process, so is it possible that it could be something wears out on the mould and causes them?

    19. I actually think mine was just a difference in the resin. Like an incomplete mix or something. Maybe there was a thickening of the mold release, but then I'd expect it to wash off.

I got mine about 2 weeks after I ordered. I ordered early in March. *shrug*

    20. I got my FARORE TODAY TOO!!!!!!!!

      Finally!!

thank you so much for posting the pictures april, seriously
I have a terrible exam tomorrow , hence no time for piccies so now I can explain my situation using yours as an example

mine has those scratches too, but EVERYWHERE!!!!!
neck, arms, chest, thighs, ankles, shoulderblades, everywhere!!! also there seems to be a part of the headcap that looks like it was stuck there later

it´s not that it bothers me so much but I am thinking about writing to bambicrony about it, after all, we paid for a doll with a mint body and we have been longing for our childs for three months!

I´ll try to take some pics tomorrow but the scratches look the same and also have that weird smooth surface not expected on a scrath

I tried washing it with the mr super clear sponge but I knew it would not work.. just had to try... but it´s a resin issue

if I had been given an explanation during the process I would feel different but when I asked about the order status all they said was "your doll came out perfectly! she´s beautiful and totally worth the waiting!! (and I was asking about shipping)

anyway april if you don´t mind I´ll quote your pics and make a separate post so people get to see it. It is just to give an example until I have time to take my own pictures I hope you do´nt mind I use yours until then^^

oh and by the way... I got the boots too^^ (and postcards, but different ones and no candyXD)
I did not have any shoes and they are perfect for my little troublemaker, all dressed in fluffy lacey lilac fairy stuff and with strong tomboy boots to stomp around in all the puddles she wantsXD

aaargh gotta get back to studying some more (or at least pretendingXD)

    21. Wow, there is more of this than I expected. I don't mind the color variability myself, but scratches in the color/discolorations on one doll would bug me.
      -_-;;

    22. Thank you! It's always good to have more than one fluent speaker to confirm. ^_^ I really think of it the same way, but when I talk to Americans about color, I kind of lay out comparative color bars in my head, LOL... ^_^
I was thinking about naming my girl Maris, but maybe Parang instead. ^_^

    23. I really hope april does´nt feel bad because I used her pics, as said in my previous post in this thread, tomorrow when I have time I´ll takes some pics and remove them but please if they bother you and want me to edit the other post about the stains right now just tell me ok?

dunno but since the PM did not get through (would not let me send it) and I just asked you permission on the previous page on this thread I don´t feel totally right about it

I just thought pepople would see it that way and maybe they could give us some advice

    24. No problem! :)

I would be curious to see what marks your Pepe has... so your photos would be good to post.

As I'm obviously interested in what the marks are, whatever answers you in your other thread would be helpful to me, too. 'Glad my photos could be of use...

    25. thnx april^^

I´m still down at colege, can´t wait to get home and on with those pics

I really hope this all gets solved as soon as possbile so I can stop thinking about it and start enjoying my girl soon

    26. My U-noa Sist headback has this. It seems to be resin color mixing problems. Seeing as it's just the headback, I never have minded. But hands and even ankles would have been much worse. :(

    27. I got a reply to my message on the BC Q&A board today, and I hope this means that Bambicrony is going to replace damaged parts. Here is the message:

      Hi, Susan!
      >
      >I know you're concerned about us and I really appreciate it.
      >
      >We couldn't say sorry to other customers who are probably sad right now because we couldn't cope with tasks during weekends.
      >
      >We're admitting our big mistake and preparing clean new bodies for some of our customers starting today.
      >
      >We're going to keep providing better service with higher reliability to make you proud to be owners of our doll.
      >
      >We're always welcome your advice.
      >
      >Thanks & best regards,
      >
      >Yoon,
      >

    28. Here's a picture of my LSG Pepe BOY, Nightshade... all dressed. You can see why I am not too bothered by the marks, since he's pretty covered and there are none showing on his chest and neck!

I have a photo-Thread of him in the Gallery if anyone wants to see more!
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145171

    29. This is great news...I'm so happy that Bambicrony is going to replace bodies and parts. I know they must care about their customers and the quality of their products, so this is nice to see. Good luck!

    30. No they did not ask me to

I told them I would, or at least the head , just for resin matching but they said no

They said they had samples from the same period when my girl was cast..
Then on the next one they said she was finished also said she would ship (well just the body) in 10 days (june 12th or so)

Then they came up with the rainy season thing

WHY ON EARTH DO THEY ALWAYS HAVE TO LIE FIRST!!!!
      LIES LIES AND MORE LIES

Now on their last notice they ask me to mail the body

iI answered I won´t until I get the new one...do´nt want my girl to be bodyless for god knows how long (as I can´t trust them)

I have been nothing but nice, patient and understanding with them..but I have a limit and that is when I feel like now they´re just laughing at me and trying to make me give up and just forget it.

as I said on my thread..if by the second week of september my girl is not home and perfect they will hear from my lawyer in 24 hours, he already knows about this.
