[Adopted] Mirodoll Discussion - Part V !

Mar 3, 2016

    1. Does anyone know anything about the supposed new 70cm they have coming? the original 70cm just looks...bad. but I want my floating head to be as tall as
On that topic, do we know when their new 70cm boy will be available? I want his body bc it looked amazing in the preview.

That doesn't sound weird at all....

    2. Not in this community, it doesn't ;)

    3. True. Do we have any way of finding out when he's due for release?

    4. I thought the oval wrist joints were hella weird, but I like my Rain's hands themselves. I was wondering how hard it would be to mod the joint round .. anybody try that and live to tell the tale? :?

    5. The only way to mod wrists, and ankles anyway, is just to add apoxie/milliput/modelling paste and re-shape wrists using the hand ball joint to shape the socket, at least this is what i did with my huge modding project. I can confess that sincerely i never understood why Miro came to such strange choice in matter of shape of wrists and ankles.

    6. I mean, it wouldn't be so bad if the forearm could rotate more freely. I'll eventually have to get over it or mod it (I have epoxy sculpt around here somewhere...)

    7. Has anyone ever tried to mod the thigh joint to be more mobile too?

    8. I also initially thought it was strange that my Rain had oval wrists, but I had nothing to compare him to so I didn't think about it again. I can see why circular wrists would make more sense though.

Speaking of my Rain, here's Dax wearing the ridiculous zebra hat I bought him yesterday:

I haven't posted in this new thread yet, so I thought I'd pop by and share a photo. ;)

    9. I ended up to fix it completely, i've added again modelling paste to make the thigh as one piece, i've read somewhere that now thighs joints are better, but i don't know for sure.

      • x 1
    10. I heard they had a locking mechanism in them that prevented them from rotating. I assume it wouldn't be too hard to sand down if that was the case.

    11. That's true, infact the movements are impossible due to joint mechanism, but i'm not sure if now Miro changed the joints in that case upper thighs could rotate/move :sweat

    12. Since I plan to get the 65cm body at some point down the line, I'll find out!

    13. If you want to see about wrists and ankles i can take some piccies of the modding i've done myself :)

    14. Ooh that would be awesome!!

    15. I will see to take some in the next days then :)

    16. Hey so... it's been a while but I finally got a decent picture of my Annie in her outfit (which took forever to come! And then I was busy with school so I'm barely home...).

Here she is! I'd had the wig and shoes for a while. Luckily the shoes work pretty well for this outfit, and I love the wig. Maybe it was all the Star Wars fever a couple months ago, but I was really getting a Carrie-Fisher-as-Princess-Leia vibe from the face.

The other sad thing is she has to sit for now because I have notttt had the time to restring her and she definitely needs it. She's all out of sorts  So here she is on top of my printer.

    17. I like her, sadly stringing back Miro bjds is a must do it, they strings dolls in such weird way, don't know if now they provide finally hooks for feet and hands.

    18. There are hooks for feet and hands, but like. Ugh. Her extremities (feet, hands, head) are too tight to move, basically. I couldn't even get both her feet off to swap to heel parts. Meanwhile, her body is sort of floppy? She can barely even sit up. I just know this is going to be a project, haha. My oldYID needs restringing too and the whole thing is daunting.

But they didn't used to provide hand and foot hooks? Yikes.

      • x 1
    19. :sweat basicly no! I got several Miro bodies, mostly male bodies, and just two female bodies and company started to provide hooks since a year or even less..i remember the first time i saw a Miro body that a huge knot was stuck in the neck hole and that knot basicly was made of arms string and body string

    20. Hi, I'm thinking about getting a mirodoll body for my migidoll head and was wondering how well clothes fit the 60/65cm boy body? The body looks very muscular so I'm a little worried clothes will be tight on it.

Also does anyone know how well the normal skin matches migidoll normal skin? I know they do resin matching but I don't have the head yet and I don't mind it not being 100%.

    21. Try to ask in the comparison thread, i cannot help that much cause i got Miro normal skin a long time ago, more over i really have no clue of what is the color of Migidoll :sweat

    22. I may have impulse bought the body.... xD
I have seen the odd migidoll hybrid, it's just confusing when companies are constantly updating their resin colours. The head I'm getting is going to be sent off for a faceup when it arrives so if the match is bad I can just ask them to blush it to match. :)

Very excited to get this body! The body I was originally looking at was over twice the price and I wouldn't of been able to get it for a while so now my Ryu is gonna have a body around the same time he arrives! ^_^

    23. To answer an old question you asked, yes, Miro yellow matched Doll Family yellow. In fact, that is what it's based on. It's a good general yellow skin tone, matches most yellows out there. yay!

Also, yes, I have modded several boys' thighs to move more easily. It's not overly hard, you just need a dremmel and you'll need to sand down both the upper and lower locking mechanisms. If you're careful, you'll even leave juuuuust enough of one or both to actually keep the lock ability without losing the mobility. I usually manage that only one thigh. *L* The other gets filed down to move completely freely. Not a hard mod at all. I think I have pics somewhere showing it.

As for the wrists, I have never used apoxy to fit the wrists, only very hot/almost boiling water. Not a hard process, takes about 30 mins each wrist, and you'll want to submerge the wrist hole into the water, leave it there about a minute, then use the wrist ball on the hands you want to use instead to kind of shape it by rolling it around in the oval. This will help make it rounder. Just keep doing that until it works. I can show pics of that too.

And as an announcement, Miro has resized the Hector and Apollo heads and fixed the eyewells on both the original sized and smaller sized. So now Hector and Apollo can look good on the Under-72cm Miro bodies!

      http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/wunderbex/aerek/SL370703_zpsushuoh52.jpg

I can do a guide on this later if someone is interested. It's a super easy mod.

AND.... what new 70cm Miro boy? Oh oh, that new leaner 60cm body? The one they can make into any size as requested, 65cm and 70cm? I am so happy for that body! YAY! I can use that!

    24. Oh wow thank you for the answer that's so helpful!! I'll probably get a 65cm body in that case! Idk if I'll need to buy an s-hook or how big said s-hook will have to be though.

    25. Happy to help! And no, I think they're hooking everything now. They always had an S hook for the head, tho, if you're worried about that. The 65cm is PERFECT in my opinion! Very good choice!

      • x 1
    26. thank you! I was debating which I wanted, 65cm or 68cm as my head was originally for a 70cm body, but I think the 65cm one is known to stand the best and I feel like the 68cm one has too-long thighs for what I want.

    27. I agree. 70cm heads look pretty darn good on the 65cm body unless they're unusually large heads, which happens. It works well because most Uncle/70cm bodies out there are actually at the measurements of a Miro buff body anyway in the chest, waist and shoulders. The 65cm is just at a great balance.

@Supernova, Sicktress has an awesome Migidoll/Miro hybrid and it looks fantastic. As long as you want a muscular body, it'll look good. Miro normal is a neutral light pink/peach color.

    28. It was actually their hybrid that sold me on the body! The match may not look as good as that one though as I have the newest migidoll skintone x.x I'm sure it will match well though. I went with the 65cm for a little more height. ^_^

    29. blushing can do miracles :3nodding:

    30. Boy howdy, yes it can! Especially if your head is lighter than your body. Blushing evens the playing field!

    31. Also @Supernova if you're very worried Mirodoll offers color matching!

    32. Yes I will blush the head if it's not a good match but I have a feeling I'll be happy with the match. :)

    33. @Kara.Boo Your Annie is so pretty! I love her cardigan too.

I probably also need to restring my Rain at some point. He's pretty floppy and difficult to pose. I just don't have the guts to take him apart (not to mention the fact that I'm too lazy).

    34. I just restrang mine (and did some hot glue sueding) but when he first came in, I didn't want to unstring him right away, so I just tightened him up. The way they strung him, all the cords went out of his head, so I just had to untie and pull through the head to get his limbs tighter. I got him to stand on his own a couple of times after that... Very carefully and briefly. If you're afraid to restring I'd recommend trying that (just make sure you have someone help you if you don't have forceps to hold loose elastic  )

    35. Oh, that's such good advice! I'll definitely have to try that. Thanks so much! :)

    36. I'm very very curious about new MiroDoll male body, seems promising but i will wait for real pics!

    37. I am just surprised at how many people are having a hard time getting their Miro dolls to stand. Mine stand on their own all the time for months on end. I never knew it was such an issue except in rare cases. :aeyepop: That is disconcerting. You may want to suede those ankles more for stability. Or is the knees? I restring my Miros with 4mm string at the thinnest. The boys you can get away with 5mm and it makes a very big difference. With the female dolls, 4mm is enough.

@$avage, so am I! I wrote and asked about them, and I'll happily share info when I get it. I could use a couple, or even several!

    38. Great news about the eye sockets having been fixed with Hector and Apollo and I totally excited about the prospect of the smaller sized heads. Here's a little differently edited teaser of one of Hector's promo photos, that Miro hasn't been uploaded on their site yet. ;) I confess, I'm pretty taken by this sculpt, it's very charismatic and is a joy to photograph for me. I will absolutely want it in the smaller version.

Yeah, I've had no problems with my 60 or 68cm bodies standing either, or any of my Miros for that matter. I've usually re-strung them immediately when they come in, because I find the ends of the strings in the head distracting and it's hard to change the eyes when the knot in there. I've done like Chalyss as well and used thicker string, 4,5mm usually. My 60cm Thunder still has the original strings. I only re-did the stringing for him to move the knot to the torso piece and he has always stood like a trooper. I hope everyone gets their boys sorted out and standing properly!!

Oooh, your Annie is such a pretty girl, Kara.Boo!! Love her stylish outfit as well! Really lovely look for her and those shoes are so fine too.
Great to see Dax with his cute hat here Amy!!! :)

    39. That really is such an amazing photo of your Hector, Marika. <3 I'm excited to see the rest of the promo pics. I hope Mirodoll uploads them soon!

    40. Oh I agree! There's something about Hector! I want a resized head now so I can make him a character! I can't get over how awesome yours looks, @Blankqueen!!

    41. Oh nothing like being late to the party! I was wondering why I wasn't seeing any new Mirodoll posts. I missed the move to a new thread.:doh
I wanted to show the Akagi Ban head on the 65cm body both white, his face has been blushed with grey (my goth/crow boy) the two match very well. I will probably put his brother (my second, Akagi Ban) on the body for a photoshoot later in the week. They have very large heads, they need a 9" wig. Most 8-9 are too small.

    42. Hey all, very new to BJD's had some, sold them, got too intimidated with faceups and cost. But I've decided to get Miro Dolls Wind on the 62cm body, does anyone know what size eyes and wig she wears? Couldn't find that info on their site.

    43. I bet if you emailed them they'd tell you. They were really good about getting back to me when I was thinking about ordering.

Eye size is always tricky for me and I don't really want to give any recommendations. But my Annie's been wearing 8/9 wigs pretty well.

    44. Thanks, I'll do that. Just ordered her tonight! Got an extra head and ordered the small bust piece too so I'll more have options for clothing.

    45. Wind takes 16mm eyes and 8-9 wigs the best. Those are at least the sizes I prefer for mine. ;) Congrats on ordering her!!

Thanks on my Hector, Amy and Chalyss!! I just took some new pics of him yesterday, just need to edit them some.

Fine hybrid fellow you've got there, Steamwitch! He's got a very cool look (always loved the Crow!). I'm really hoping I'll have the guts to do a proper fantasy face-up on one of my resin darlings of these fine days too.

    46. @SteamWitch, the same thing happened to me! I was wondering why the thread seemed so dead- not dead, just not invited to the party! Your boy looks GREAT!! Can't go wrong with the Crow! (I was always partial to the Akando Circus Nocturna makeup myself, looked so similar to the Crow, and like a buff, sexy Eric Draven. *L*)

@Blankqueen, piiiiiccsss!!! Hector pics!!! I wanna see what magic you've worked!

    47. Ooh, I'm very much looking forward to seeing more Hector pics, Marika! :D

    48. Thank you @Blankqueen I'm sure you would do a wonderful faceup.
@chalyss I got this particular Ban head on impulse. I bought one and two of my GO partners got one also (cheap practice heads from AC) but when they arrived one said they decided not to keep it, so I bought it from him. I'd always wanted to do a crow faceup so it was a perfect opportunity. I wanted him to look like he did it to himself so it is a little sloppy on purpose, especially the eyebrows. His natural coloring is mid-blonde so he wanted to cover that all up. We are in the same BJD group so we have triplets and have made up a whole story about them. I want to take a few more photos of Dag then give Dylan who is the youngest of triplets, a turn.

    49. Doubles of heads sounds like the perfect excuse to do something a bit more creative! I have a couple of ideas for fantasy face-ups, but haven't found suitable candidates for them yet. :)

Here's a new pic of Hector sporting a casual look. ;) I'm loving how the Mirodoll resin photographs with my lamps/camera, particularly the normal skin. Very few of my dolls get this creamy smooth looking "skin" when I take pics of them. Hector's got one charismatic face and I find his rugged looks so much fun to photograph. Most of my boys are such pretty princes, but this guy is a man. I'm liking the more realistic features!

    50. Eek! Marika, those Hector pics are AMAZING! You're right, his skin looks so smooth and flawless, and he has a very handsome adult face. He's gorgeous! I also adore his shirt and scarf. <3

    51. Thank you so much, I want her to have eyes and hair when she gets here...haha. Hector is pretty awesome and your pics are fantastic.

    52. I have tge new 70cm boy body. I will post pictures as soon as I figure out how!

    53. @ViciousVixxen, love your avatar!!! Black Wind? Very cool!!

@Blankqueen, I wish MY skin would do that for pictures! I do love how smooth and velvety his looks in your photos!

    54. I think I'll add Dylan here too since Dag made his debut.

I think these are Soom hands not Mirodoll, they are a touch pink but not that obvious. I bought them at a meet.

    55. LOVE HIM!!!! And MAAAAAAAN, different hands make a HUGE difference don't they?

    56. Yes they do, these are so expressive which is why I bought them.

    57. @SteamWitch Dylan is ADORABLE! <3 I love his hat too!

Since Saint Patrick's Day is just around the corner, I thought I'd share this festive pic of Dax:

    58. *LOLOL* Dax is adorable!!!!

    59. So I decided to get 60cm and 65cm boy body during their March event. I want to order the elastic strings as well just in case. Does anyone know which size I should get? Mirodoll has 3.00mm, 3.50mm and 4.00mm. I think 3.00mm is for 1/4 doll so should I get 3.5 and 4.00..? Somebody pls enlighten me :kitty1
