Minimee Discussion

Sep 13, 2014

1. Hi! I own a minimee of David Tennant (made by Owl), but my guy doesn't represent any of Tennant's roles (although I adore Tennant!!! :love ). He is just one of the characters of my own story. His name is Ole, he is a taleteller and a little bit magician. And, oh yes, he is blonde

2. Hello,

A couple days ago I have bought the head of Snape by Ebay. The seller was not able to say which company has made this head. Could anybody help me to find it out? Thank you!

3. (As far as I know) DiM did 2 runs of Snape and Nobility doll did one. I have one of DiMs versions and it's not the same one you have there,

Here's an odd request;l please photograph the inside of the head and also the headcap sitting on the bold head. These things will do a lot in identifying the head. If there is any marking in the resin or even a pencil mark inside, it could all help.

4. Thank you for your helpfulness! There are no marks inside at all. I will take photos and post on WE.

5. Here is the inside of the head and the headcap:[IMG]

6. This looks very much like the head construction of the DIM Minimees.

7. I am so excited. I bought Buff's Prince Nuada from Hellboy so he will be my second DIM minimee :)

8. @Kavarr I'm so happy for you! Congrats!

9. Thank you!
May be you know as well which one of two versions? On the first page of this thread one can read: "Alan Rickman (at least 2 different versions, both by DiM, one for DoA , one for Russian doll forum. The DoA version was made by DiM China)".

10. No, sorry, I don't know which version. I don't think I've seen your version of the head before …

11. I just wonder, why in such a exciting thead as minimee there are so few images of the dolls...:(

12. [IMG]

Not quite a MNM per say, but a quarter scale Stark to join the hoard of Tony's and Sherlock's on here!

(One issue I'm having with all of my actual MNMs, finding bodies big enough that their huge noggins aren't ridiculously oversized... My Venitu may have been partly purchased with MNM body borrowing in mind! )

13. Thank you for posting! What kind of wig it is?
My Snape is on Dollshe 28M body. I find it fits!

14. The movie „Alice Through the Looking Glass“ runs now, and I suggest to post our Minimee of Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter. Please meet my Mad Hatter

15. :blush Sorry! He's not actually wearing a wig, everything you see there hair wise is plastic. His eyes/hair are both built into the sculpt - as I confusingly (sorry!) said, he's not really a MNM. (He's actually a quarter scale action figure.)

Thanks for the Dollshe suggestion - actually I'm using/am going to use the DSAM35 body for my Bowie MNM, I just need to get around to sanding down the neck!

16.
Thanks for the Dollshe suggestion - actually I'm using/am going to use the DSAM35 body for my Bowie MNM, I just need to get around to sanding down the neck!
Hopfully the head of Bowie is not as huge as my Snape's head. I have tried DSAM32 for him, it doesn't work.

17. Nuada is home and he is creepy and wonderful and I love him :)

18. He really is the coolest and creepiest, I love everything about him. :shudder

19. OMG I just saw your profile of your Nuada on the site's home page and I was like WHERE CAN I GET THIS HEAD. Seems like it's not really available anywhere though. So does minimee mean that the head was comissioned? And Doll in Mind just happened to be the primary offerrer of this service? (Also OMG there's a Pan head too from Pan's Labyrinth)

20. Thanks! He is something of an acquired taste with those looks but I love him :)

Glad you like him! Minimees (of characters, actors etc..) are usually made in a group order and a company will cast only a limited number. DIM did 10 of these heads some years ago and they no longer do minimees. You never know though another might get sold second hand but as they are really rare it may be difficult to get one. There are other companies that will cast minimees. I know Mirodoll do and Natrume on etsy casts with mdoll. Also you can print a 3D head (I don't know how to do that) and then send it to the company to cast in resin. .

21. I am waiting for a Minimee of Thranduil (Lee Pace) from Modoll!!!:love
Could you please show your Thranduils? Thank you!

22. Hello! I have a DiM custom minimee head that I got years ago (well, two actually... since I couldn't get one by itself. But that suited me fine). And a minimee of Thane Krios from the Mass Effect video games (I think he might be DiM too, was part of a group order of them). Neither of them are painted or on bodies or anything. Actually that's how I found this thread.

The heads are quite large so I'm looking for a body that is a nice fit for them (my two custom ones, Thane I'm happy to leave as he is, maybe make him into a bust). I'm not terribly concerned about the resin matching as for one of my custom ones I have plans to err... Try and paint the whole thing a dark navy blue if I can XD What I mainly want is for the head to look proportional and not too huge on whatever body I get for it.

I was thinking a Soom Super Gem at first, but I just got a Heliot and his head is way smaller than the minimee. So then I was considering a 70cm Dollzone, but the bodies look quite thin. Looked up Iplehouse EID, but saw someone mention having to seriously shave down the neck for the head to even fit. Maybe Iplehouse SID instead?

It did just occur to me that I do have a few existing dolls that I could swap heads on to see how the minimees look on them. So I might do that, but what bodies in general seem to suit these heads best?

It's probably important to note that my head/s isn't based on a celebrity, though the drawings I provided were in a realistic style. Hm I should probably take a photo.

23. Great news: Dollshe has started his own minimee projekt!

24. I just can recommend Dollshe 28M body, it fits perfectly for a huge Snape head (s. page 11 of this thread).

25. Got some photos :D

http://orig10.deviantart.net/51f7/f/2016/256/d/e/img_8345a_by_shadesofnight-dahhrud.jpg

They are: Thane Minimee DiM, Seri Minimee DiM, ??? Raurencio Studio, Heliot Soom (for size comparison).

I tried my Seri head on an Iplehouse SID but the neck would definitely need to be altered for it to fit on properly. Just from looking (because I don't want to dismantle my doll display yet) I think the Dollshe DS28M 32s that I have has a neck about the same thickness as the Iplehouse SID. The Dollzone and Dream Realm dolls I have appear to have necks that are thinner than those two (though again this is just from looking).

Unfortunately the picture on the previous page doesn't let me see the whole doll with the head on to figure out how the proportions look ^^; But from a quick google search I think I found a minimee head on a Dollshe body, it appears very long-necked and odd (I guess this depends on what size body is used? the photo doesn't say)... Reminds me a bit of a snake actually. I still kinda like the idea of an iplehouse to give a slightly more realistic build. It's just a matter of the work involved to get it to fit... hmm...

26. That Thane one is awesome!!!! Thank you for sharing!

27. Now I see that your heads are quite different, not sure yet about Dollshe DS28M. DSAM ist anyway too thin, IMHO.
The best way to find it out is to ask a collector at your environment for a test.

28. @Shae Have you considered a Mirodoll body for your Minimee? The 68 cm body works quite well with those heads. It has a bit of muscle and its neck isn't too thick … Have a look at Akagidoll, too. I have the 70 cm body for my Simply Divine Harlequin head which is quite big.

29. Oh! Thank you! :D I had a look at both (I actually have a Simply Divine Harlequin head too, couldn't resist something so pretty when I saw it) and I think I like the Mirodoll one best (that, and they currently have a sale) I did some photoshop meddling and measuring to get an idea of how my head will look on it and it doesn't seem too bad.

... if only they would do a 68cm (or near) version of their 60cm small chest female body too, their 70cm female has an oddly long torso (since I have two heads I want one female, one male ^^; ). Hmm... Any suggestions for female bodies taller than 60cm, shorter than 68cm that don't have a huge chest?

Edit: Oh and Mirodoll offer black, blue and colour matching for resin! I'm absolutely sold if I can get my dark navy blue and not go through the hassle of trying to paint the doll myself XD

30. (Hehe, who could resist Harlequin? ) I have 3 Mirodoll bodies for my minimee-like heads, and I'm very satisfied with them. They need a little rstringing and maybe sueding when you get them, but otherwise they work fine.
I think Mirodoll will cast the body in any color if you ask them. :)

For the female version, have a look at the Spiritdoll Proud body. It is 66 cm and you can choose the size of the bust.

31. That's very good to know :D I'm not very active with my dolls so as long as they can sit properly I'm usually fine, but I do pose them for photos sometimes. I'm just so glad I probably won't have to paint the entire body, just the head is a much less daunting task.

And thank you again! That proud body looks like it will suit what I want <3 And I can probably do the same as I'll be doing for the other one: Paint the head to match the body if the resin difference seems too jarring. At last, my poor floating minimee heads will be getting bodies! XD

32. Can I put my Atelier Cynamon Havok-ba here in minimee? He is a Argonian lizard/dragon from Skyrim so he is basically a minimee character, just not a human. If not is there somewhere he belongs and I can show him off? Mine is shipping right now. He is in white resin and his name is InnoRar.

33. Here's mine since I've never gotten around to it until now :doh

Roxas (Kingdom Hearts II) and Reno [Final Fantasy VII Advent Children] (even though he's an Axel :3nodding:)

Lighting (Final Fantasy XIII) [I'm getting rid of her]

Leon (Resident Evil 4)[I'm getting rid of him too. I mean look at those eyes! I'm no modder so yeah]

34. Haruka, I'm totally crazy for your Alucard. Need to see it finished! Congratulation!

My Raziel MiniMee from Legacy of Kain game still need a body. I'm afraid to buy small one. Does anyone know if Proud Male Body (Spirit Doll) is 70cm with or without head?

Raziel will be upgraded with an Amadiz Studio doll cosplay custom wig soon. This head is the only minimee I will have in life then I want the biggest, coolest and creepest best color/size match for him. And I can keep dressing junk as ever. :mwahaha

36. How nice to see a Final Fantasy VIII character in your collection! I can't wait to see your Seifer ready! Please share pictures of him!!! May I ask where did you bought him? I've always dreamt about having a BJD of Squall! :)

37. Thanks. He is still a floating head though. I got him from DIM when they still had their Minimee services. So yeah he is a custom order. Good luck with finding another company to make Squall.

38. Thank you very much!

39. Hello everyone!I had this head for years, but only today i became happy with how he looks)
This is Fenris from Dragon Age 2 videogame by BioWare, minimee by DIM nearly 2012, my harders game character crush
[IMG]

I still think about repainting him and about changing eyes, and my longlist includes his armor made from leather, but i'm really satisfied for now.

40. I was luck and found a Cloud and a Squall head! Ended up buying the Cloud head (to me, Cloud's head looks more like Squall than the actual Squall's head).
I am curious, how does this DIM minimee services used to work? They just decided to cast FFVIII characters head? Or the FFVIII fans placed a group order? Or are these heads unique? Did they had COA and a box? Sorry to ask so many questions, I just started buying BJDs a couple months ago

41. DIM Minimee heads were done by a group order of 20 people and the heads were $120-$150 depending on open eyes or sleep eyes. Example Cloud open eye heads of 20 were unpainted, came in a small box, NO COA. Once the molds for open eye heads were done NO more were made, Sleep eyed version had the same limit of 20 heads and came in NS or WS. You had to find very good photos of the character from all angles and when the clay mold was done a picture was sent for approval to be cast in resin. For 2 custom heads for a 1 person order was expensive, price for that was $400 I think, some members wanted just for themselves and not to be shared with anyone. Search for MiniMee and you will find characters from Anime to Real Life. I only have 1 MiniMee and he ain't going no where.

44. I was thinking that it would be awesome to have a Kim Hyun Joong minimee. Is there a place here on DOA where people post about minimee order/group order, to see if other people would want one too? Because to order only one would be expensive, right? Thank you! :)

45. Oooh! Thank you! <3

46. What an amazing mnms of Avatars! Will wait for face-up, very interesting to see final image.

47. This is not an active thread so not sure anyone will check this to help me identify a head but worth a try:
Anyone know what head...TY

48. he looks kind of like Sean Connery from his James Bond days. But I don't know if there was a go for that or not.

Nope, the mustache shouldn't be there for that.

My next though t is Ret Butler from Gone With the Wind.

49. I don't think there were Minimees made for either Rhet or Sean...
It does look like one of DiM's minimees. Can you take a few more pictures? The side and the interior would be helpful. We'll at least be able to tell if it is one by DiM.

50. Here we go with a larger photo - 3 views. I think this is an older head - I have had it for awhile and purchased off DoA a long time ago. The head has yellowed and looking at these photos - think I need to clean him up a bit. He has spent too long in the box.

Thanks to all who help me with this identity problem. ;)

51. Okay, it's definitely a DiM minimee; I can tell from the inside.
He really looks like Rhet Butler.
I'm assuming the '2010' mark was left by the face-up artist, since DiM never put dates inside the minimee heads. (The '38' could be a mark left by DiM; not unusual.) So we can assume the head is from 2010 or earlier. I'd go looking for a 2009/2010 minimee group order with DiM.

52. My gosh ikke777 - Thank you! I appreciate all this help. Jo

53. Another vote for Clark Gable. You could also try contacting the artist whose name is inside the head (PamSD) to see if she remembers. She's a member here and at Zone of Zen.

54. I just started a conversation with her. Thank you alewife - why did I not think of that??? Jo

55. PamSD wrote me back and this sculpt was Dr Strange and she thought it was from the Jeremy Northam sculpt. Someone removed some of her face-up on him (that is why he looks a bit dirty... and she said he makes a great Tom Selleck too.
Now I don't think I can sell him with the face-up messed about? I looked at him as Pam's Sam Elliot and thought he looked a bit like Burt Reynolds. Many faces to this sculpt.
OOAK Jeremy Northam as Sam Elliot hand painted Doll in Mind DIM minimee head

56. It's still a nice faceup though, even if it was changed.
