    1. I've searched for it, but haven't found a thread to discuss minimee dolls, so I am curious if there are other people out here who would love to talk about minimee dolls- from all manufacturers.

    6. Me too. So great, that there are some other minimee lovers :aheartbea. So far all my minimee heads have been from private sellers on doll boards. I'm so sad, that DIM had closed their doors for minimee services. They had the best minimees. I will do a minimee group order through Magical Angel by end of the year., Moi dix Mois Mana. I hope that they will do good work. As far as I heard offers Nobiltiydoll their service from time to time, but you have to take 10 heads at least. If they will do great work, I will commission them for all my plans. I hope to get some of my wishlist dolls through the marketplace, but some had never been made or are very hard to get, so I really hope Magical Angel will do great work.

      Through one my sales, I`ve heard from someone in Finland, who is offering to sculpt heads, I haven't had the time yet to contact him, but I will do soon.

      I love your hide, he is sooo super cute. Yes I´ve found the Tom Hiddlestone thread as well, so sad that the other minimees hadn`t had that much attention.

    7. I do like Minimee as well, but not J-Rocker ones :sweat
      I do own a Daniel Craig minimee and also a Brandon Lee minimee. While Daniel Craig was made by DIM, Brandon Lee was made by Angelsdoll company. Both dolls are fully assembled and painted.
      Daniel Craig head is using a Mirodoll body while Brandon Lee is using the Angelsdoll slim male body V0.1

      I'd really like to see more MNMs on DoA. Strangely enough, they have never been so popular, while other realistic looking dolls have. However, I've seen lots of great photos on Flickr.
      I have 3 DIM Minimees (SE hide, Shou of Alice Nine and Kamijo) and Murph by Namonaki Workshop (no Asian company). hide is on a heavily modified Doll family A body, Shou on a modified Mirodoll 60cm body and Kamijo on a Demon Garden body. hide is the only MNM I created after the original - or rather created himself. It wasn't planned at all …

      I'm also interested to see the new Minimees not made by Doll in Mind and what bodies everyone is using for their heads.

I'm kinda surprised too that not so many minimee are around, i guess that heads are too much different in terms of easthetics to fits to regular BJD body, is completely different now cause Mirodoll company really axed the prices and also easthetics of the bodies for sale are pretty much in western/realistic easthetic.

      I guess that DIM made a good job in past, but you know i'm not to fond about Nobility Doll..i've read some complaints about quality of the manifacturing and resin thinness issues..

    10. Oh Evie, your Hide is simply awesome, he looks alive. *__*

      Probably minimees are not that popular because of their huge size and problems with finding a proper body/skintone for the vast majority of them. Moreover, such characters usually don't match the rest of the dolls in the house well, as they are significantly bigger.
      Right now I'm very pleased only with Namonaki Workshop minimees - as they are SD-size and look nicely among my other realistic dolls, such as Nabarro, LLDT or Unidoll.

      I'm joining this thread and discussion as I'm also a proud owner of 2 minimees. They are Namonaki Workshop Mikkel (as Hannibal Lecter from the show Hannibal) and DIM Misha Collins (as angel Castiel from Supernatural series).
      That's my Cas - he definitely needs a bigger body.

      I agree that new companies are around and that's quite good. Namonaki Workshop made interesting heads, sadly none of them interesting me but hey never say ever!
      I agree also with Reya: usually minimee bjd doesn't fit nicely into the regular bjd collection, again i think that it's merely an easthetic issue *minimee tends to be pretty much realistic while usually bjd are stylized*

    12. Oooh I just found this thread. I love minimees and i'm one of the DIM Hiddles/Loki owners. I love seeing MNMs but you don't see them around enough. I love that they are so different to the normal bjd aesthetic and they often have the most amazing features. I would be interested to see other companies MNMs. I know Natrume on etsy makes some amazingly realistic ones.
      Brandon Lee looks great $abbatha and James Hetfield would be awesome! Please don't get me started on wanting to create my fav bands.
      Reya I love your Misha Collins/Cas he just looks like he needs a big hug:)

      I fully understand the aesthetic thing- when I started BJD I had Luts, Dollzone and Soom dolls- and I weren't satisfied as they had so different aesthetic and I'm very picky with that- so in the end I only kept the Soom dolls. Now I only have Minimee dolls. I'm planning on getting some Iplehouse dolls - especially ladies, at a later time- and hope that my minimees will look ok with the Iplehouse YID ladies ;).

      Ereskigal I think IH girls are a great choice to go with your crew. The IH sculpts are more realistic and on a larger scale than many other bjds so they are more likely to fit with the MNMs. I have IH SID boys and they look fine with my Loki.

      You know i'm still lusting about getting James Hetfield, but i will not create a band. Usually i create an original side character based onto celebrities features *that happens everytime infact BL is actually used for another character*
      I agree that easthetics is an issue, Minimee are pretty much real while BJD are stylized which is nothing bad anyway.
      I could suggest to all of you to give to Mirodoll body a try cause my HUGE Daniel Craig head looks pretty fine onto that body. If you wish to see some piccies let me know, i will post it here.

      I definitely love the more realistic aesthetics of these sculpts. I wish DIM was still making MNM, I would definitely get more video game/anime male sculpts from them if they were.
      Their 1:6 scale work is amazingly accurate, it makes me regret not requesting to have their Korean team sculpt my custom Sephiroth years ago... oh well.

    20. Enzyme, some of the MNMs based on real persons are masterpieces, they are very detailed and quite accurate. The only thing that bugs me that their heads vary so much in size. Some look quite good on smaller bodies, others need 70+ bodies - even some of the female molds.

      I wonder what has happened to the tons of MNM heads that have been made by DIM over the years. I also remember, DIM made a Brad Pitt event head years ago - haven't seen any of these for ages …

      BTW How did you feel when you first came across realistic molds? The first Minimees I ever saw were a guy made to look like someone's husband and the other a girl sculpted after someone's daughter. I thought they looked quite creepy. I believed I'd never own one - I didn't even want to paint them as commissions first. But … I changed my mind.:XD:

    21. That's what I am asking myself all the time. There must have been hundreds of minimee heads out there, but you barely find some pictures or someone, who owns them. So sad- my guess is, that many of them are stored in some boxes and not to be finished.

      The first minimee I saw had been the Mana from Ashemanu and the Toshiya head from Sabriell. I stared at them like this :o- I immediately wanted similar dolls. Years later I got that Mana ;). I had an Luts El Mana during the time I came across the minimee Mana, and well it sounds harsh, but I didn't have any fun in him anymore, as he seemed so imperfect compared to the minimee Mana, so he had been sold soon afterwards.
      First I didn't planned on getting many minimee, but well end of that idea is, that atm I have 18 minimees and that's for sure not the end of the story ;).

      I am so happy that you've changed your mind about minimee comissions. Would have been a great loss.

    22. I'm a big supporter of Evie, i must confess that Minimee heads to me were too strange, i was a newbie into BJD hobby anyway. But after browsing the pictures of Evie face up i changed my mind about it. My first head made by DIM was Sakurai, he's still a floating head sadly, then i got Daniel Craig and the last one is Brandon Lee, which is pretty different cause he's pretty stylized.
      I'm not fond anyway of the work of 1/6 heads that Denny made so far :sweat i found again these molds too much in comparison with other 1/6 sculpt head, believe the 1/6 scale is amazing and there are a lot of talented artists into the hobby.

Could be very helpful, especially when you aren't sure whether the minimee you are searching have ever been made or not. Hope you like the idea. :)

    24. The first MNM I saw was of a lady who had one custom made based on her likeness; I believe that was the point of the Minimee service DIM had created back then.
      It was interesting to see but I didn't have any intentions of owning a portrait doll of myself. When people started organizing group orders for famous characters/people,
      that's when I was actually interested. I never thought that some companies within this hobby would move towards realism, it was refreshing to see.
      Now, if only companies were making a broader range of realistic bodies (seriously doubt it's going to happen anytime soon)...

      Note: I've added DiM as 'DiM china' and 'DiM korea' because for most of the minimees DiM made, they had them sculpted and cast in China, not Korea. Only at the very end were the sculpts made in-house at DiM in korea. This in important information because the Korea cast heads WILL match DiM resin and the China cast heads will not.

    29. Since DiM stopped making Minimees, what companies out there do custom heads? I'm looking to have a specific head made, so I'm not looking for a company that only has pre-made celebrity heads, like Namonaki Workshop, though their work is gorgeous. I also don't want to have to buy 10 heads. I want just one, just for me. Who still does just one, just the way you want?

    30. Bishounen_Hideto, having one head made has always been very expensive and companies have always been ubwilling to do all that custom work for just 1 head. Even DiM, back in the day made no less than two and it cost $300+ per head.
      The problem is that of a base price that must be paid before even a single head is cast.

      The costs for a Minimee consists of:
      Base cost:
      1x sculpting fees (this is set by the artist and will include all cost of making the base sculpt).
      1x a set of molds. (Molds made for casting resin can only last a max of 30 pieces (20 if there resin is darker colored))
      per head: the cost of the resin and the cost of labor for the actual casting
      per head: the aftercare of the product (I know that Dollshe has this as a separate cost, most other companies includes this in the cost of casting)

      So a cost calculation of a minimee may look like this:
      sculpting fee: $400
      mold making: $150
      price per head cast (incl. aftercare) $70.

      That would mean that casting only one head would cost: $620.
      Two: $690 total = $345 per head
      Three: $760 total = $254 per head
      ...
      Ten: $1250 total = $125 per head.

      And that is why people do group orders for Minimees.

      And as to your question, as long as you are willing to pay the sculpting fee, some sculptor will be interested in sculpting your head. And there are enough companies that are willing to cast what ever you send them (barring reproducing some other companies work). I know Dollshe will cast, and Magical Angel and Mirodoll and Fdoll. Nobility doll too, most probably.

    31. Hideto every company could make just one head, but cost are about 900usd if not more. I know cause i've asked to Mirodoll and also to Namonaki for a head based onto a celebrity and both gave me this quote, i believe that also Magical Angel offers this service but quoting price is basicly the same, the best route is a group order.

    40. I actually purchased one of the DBSK/JYJ Junsu heads and it's on its way to me :) I can't wait to get him even if I need a body and a million other things for him. I had several jrock Minimees but ended up selling them due to circumstances - it'll be nice to have one again!

      To add to the list, I'm pretty sure there was also a head made for DBSK's Yunho.

Man, there are still no words for how utterly ecstatic I was/am that Dollshe did the unthinkable and started to cast their bodies in not one, but three shades of gray.... ;w;;;

    45. I actually plan on making several outfits for him, including his Elisabeth and Mozart! outfits :) I really enjoy his musical roles along with his regular singing.

      Haha, the jrock heads I had were Toshiya and Shinya! We have similar tastes.

    46. Can't wait to see him with the outfits. :aheartbea I will start an outfit for Ruki (The GazettE) once the bodies are here. I have two Toshiyas so far, one is finished, and the other one (who is currently on vacation at a friend's place) is one of my floating heads, who need a body and face-up. I still need a Shinya, I had one some years ago, but he wasn't so good in my opinion, so I sold him. But I'm confident that I will find one or two sooner or later at the MP- the Dir en grey heads seems to be often for sale with a bit of patience. So far I have all members of Dir en grey but Shinya ;).

      Yes, there are some new ones (but three went to new homes as well- Shou, hide and Yoshiki, luckily, otherwise I couldn't afford the new ones- I've sold them before, not because I wanted the others). Tomorrow the parcel from the Netherlands should arrive and next week I will pay of Reita. Sooner or later you will get heads for painting. But nevertheless should we do a Dollmeet soon.

This balance between a real person and a cartoon character is a rare trait in minimees, so he literally stole my heart. :daisy You must be very proud of him!

      Enzyme, wow, your boys are super gorgeous! :D I can imagine them on the screen, playing in a Final Fantasy movie! They are absolutely unbelievable. *__* Do you like Elfdoll girls? Some of them could look nice together with your boys. But of course I support Iplehouse too, especially their new pirate line.

      evie the kid, Castiel is on Spiritdoll Proud (2nd version) - they share it together with my Nabarro Wally. The neck is too thin for his massive head, so I'm thinking of switching him to Herculean body one day. Though I like how the Proud body stoops.
      I think you are one of the best minimee-painters I've known for years in the BJD-hobby, so it could be marvellous to see your other works! :) Could you bring your Namonaki Murph here too?

      Also, dear Ereskigal - do you think it could be a good idea to add all Namonaki sculpts to the minimee-list we are completing here? I don't think anyone else did Mads Mikkelsen, or Michael Fassbender, or Elijah Wood. They simpy deserve it!
