As said, anyone still remember such things? Cynical Yugin had always been on my wish list since his release in 2009. And then I found this Yugin on marketplace in 2015, not realizing Migidoll did a Yugin rerelease in 2014. Either which way I like him. But is he actually the Yugin rerelease rather than cynical? Thanks! Little did I realize the slight variations!!! ;}
I'm still looking for early Yugin photos. Finally found a photo of Cynical & the eyes are more squinty. But this faceup by bunny forever in 2015 may be the 2014 version... Migidoll Yujin 03
I'm looking back thru old migidoll discussions & see you had the 2008 Yugin. Do you still have a photo of him? Having trouble finding photos of the first version.
Maybe he's the original version? /threads/adopted-migidoll-general-discussion.212808/page-20 SillLadyFae's photos still show hers from 2009. That's certainly the face I originally saw & loved.
Yep. Thanks! I'd found that & ruled him out. Somehow I'd always had the name Cynical Yugin in my head from the first meetup I attended & saw one. But I think I had actually seen Yujin. I finally climbed the stepstool to reach his safe spot, dusted the cobwebs & checked his head cap which says Yujin but doesn't have a date. So now I'd just like to figure out if he's the 2009 version or the 2014 rerelease. The 2019 version is different for sure plus I bought him second hand in 2015. It's not a big deal but a detail I hadn't realized to follow up on at the time. ;}
That is 100% the first Yujin. First Yujin had a wider nose, bigger eyes, thicker lips and more angular chin. Second Yujin has smaller, softer features and thinner nose and lips. First is more cute, second is more pretty, IMO and I love them both! Cynical Yujin has more lidded eyes. Sleeping Yujin, who was a free limited event head, has fully closed eyes. There was also a Vampire Yujin who has lidded eyes, pointed ears, fangs in a partially open mouth and slight frown. All of the alternate versions are based on Second Yujin. I might be something of an expert, as I own three second Yujins, four Cynical (two heavily modded) and one sleeping. I used to own the first one and regret selling him. Never owned Vampire, I don’t think I’ve even ever seen owner pics. Any version of Yujin is my favorite sculpt ever and something of an obsession of mine. If you want any pics of Second, Cynical or Sleeping, feel free to PM me! edit: The one painted by Bunny Forever is Second Yujin, the one posted by SillLadyFae is First Yujin.
New From what I understand, there are a few variations in Yujin: - first release Yujin (2009): open eyes, wider & broader nose, thicker lips (especially upper i think), squarer chin. possibly squarer jaw - re-release Yujin: a modified version of the first release, the obvious changes are slimmer nose, pointier chin compared to the first release - cynical Yujin: similar to the re-release, the main difference is eyes are in a dreaming shape To me, when I see original Yujin, I think of him as quite boyish and smiley! While the release version has a more ...neutral expression and has a more pretty boy look like some other Migidoll sculpts (Miho, Cho etc.). If I were to hazard a guess, I think the one in the photo you attached is an original Yujin. P.S. I don't know if this is accurate but I always felt like the eyeshape of the open eyed Yujins (i.e. original and re-release) are slightly different. But it's hard to tell for sure from pictures only. I think the original Yujin has a bigger eye, while the release has more resin added to the lower eyelid that makes the eye hole shorter, giving him a more... squinty look? Re-release's eyes reminds me of Cho's eyeshape, while I don't get that from the original Yujin, if that makes sense.
New Thanks @cian! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to get excited about the finer details. ;} It was the brow ridge, thicker nose & lips that attracted me to the first one I saw at a meetup. And I must have gotten the name confused because I'd always thought he was cynical Yugin until I went online to verify info for my record log. Happily I found the sculpt I originally liked & now I've learned a lot more about his alter egos.
New Haha, I was such a fan of Migidoll back in early 2010s... Kind of sad that their old website has been replaced cos it's hard to find original photos from the older releases when they first came out. Glad you've now basically confirmed you have the original Yujin. That was always my fave version of Yujin I must have skimmed over it and forgot but someone earlier mentioned headcaps and I just realised that's another way to roughly date Migidoll heads. Which is the design of the headcaps. I don't know exactly when Migidoll started doing this but when I bought Mihos in 2012 the dolls came with a long clear sticker with their serial number stuck inside the head. Older Migidoll from before this, back when Migi still operated more like a small artist didn't have this label (the Jina I had from 2009 or 2010 didn't). Much later iterations of Migidolls have a changed headcap with a hexagonal design stamped/engraved inside it (I'm guessing at the year because this was my friend's doll but probably later part of 2010s... maybe 2016??). I'm not super sure on the years of when these changes took place exactly but it gives a rough gauge at least for anyone who's tryna figure out when their Migidoll was made. Tl;dr Migidoll headcaps differences: 1) during artist cast period with blog style posts/email for ordering (start till probably 2010/2011 ish?) - sculpt name engraved in headcap. Headcap closes with one set of magnet and one small resin hook and groove (example - 2nd image of Jina on an IG post I found) 2) as a small company with full shopping site (~2012 - 201...6??) - same as above but has a clear sticker with serial number stuck above their eye wells (I still own the Miho with this style but i don't have a picture of inside his head lol) 3) mid 2010s onwards - headcap closes with 2 sets of magnets. Hexagonal Migi logo inside headcap. Stickers are still a thing (example) Sorry I got excited typing and it got long again...
New Lol @cian . Sounds like my usual sign off to most "quick'" notes. ;} I'm traveling & don't have the Migi boys with me but will be curious to look inside their head caps when I get back in June. That's all useful info. It's unfortunate that in the online age so much info is quickly available but then soon left unsupported & quickly disappears. I have the same problem with several research directions lately. And the few books written about BJDs include website links that no longer function for specific artists & companies. Good thing there's still this community with knowledge to share.
