Forgot to mention: I've updated the first post to reflect our meeting time. If we should get anyone else wanting to join us, I will update the attending list accordingly.
I've got my little attendees all packed and ready to go! I was having a lot of trouble deciding who to bring, but I decided to start with "dolls who've never been to a meetup" and narrowed down from there lol.
I'll be a few minutes late, had some unexpected phone calls and paperwork this morning - but the good kind, finally got a job down here in my field!!
So, I have a potential idea for the next meet that came to me before my post-meetup death nap: movie meetup! More than likely, this would happen at someone's home rather than going to a theater. If we do decide on this as an idea, I do have a space available for movie viewing, as well as a few movie options ready to go. We can also perhaps fudge the movie idea a little as I do have a copy of the first season of The Last of Us.
I have the 30th anniversary blu ray box set of Yu Yu Hakusho that has the new released ova if anime is an option
You and I both know that anime is always an option. I'd be open to having it in the house in West Kendall where I split my time at if we do go through with this, and one of the people who lives here is one of my best friends and he has an impressive anime and movie library, if I do say so myself. He's even got some bootleg J-dramas on DVD that we might be able to borrow if we decide to go that route. Snacks are a definite yes! I do have a dietary restriction in the form of a rather serious pork allergy, so as long as nothing pork or pork derived ends up in me or on me, we're good. Don't let that stop either of you from bringing your favorite snacks, just a little warning beforehand would be nice, and if it needs to be cooked, cook it before coming over and wash your hands after eating it.
So I suppose now we just need to nail down when this is gonna happen next month, lmao. I'm preparing to table at a convention in May, specifically May 24th-26th.
I got word I'm starting my new job next week! Idk what my schedule is gonna be like yet, I'll check back in when I have a better idea!
Okay, my schedule until the end of the fiscal year is gonna be Fri-Sat-Sun, bummer for traditional weekend hangout activities but the rest of my schedule is very free until they get a new FY's worth of budget and have enough to pay me for more hours lol
Good to know! I can work with basically any schedule, so it's honestly up to you guys! The only thing I will say is that I'm basically booked until after the 26th. It's fun to be your own boss! 8D [Insert lighthearted sarcasm here]
tbh that works for me because i'm still adjusting to working 10 hour days and prepping for a pattern drop for my crochet shop. Alsooooooooo anybody going to the RHRN movie premier in June? I bought a ticket for the 7:10 showing on Thursday June 20th since i, yknow, am working weekends now, and I'm down to bring a doll or something and have a goth/metal/Ghost themed doll meet slash theater premiere watch party lmao!
I know I'm off this weekend to go to Otakufest. As of now, the only really major plan is at the end of June to visit my parents. Like usual have to constantly check my work schedule for when I'm free. Boo retail.
I'm always down for a movie meet! I might not bring a doll for that, but it'd be fun to just hang out. Good luck on your pattern drop, by the way! Lucky! Otakufest is so much fun. I got waitlisted this year for the artist alley but in the past few years, at least from an artist alley standpoint, it's been an amazing con. Have fun at that! And yeah, retail tends to want to eat up a lot of your spare time. I feel you on that one, lol.
Hello! We keep meaning (Or at least I do lmao) to continue planning the next meet up. I'd be delighted to have you there!
Hi there, I'd like another meeting. I'll be starting a new position at work at the middle of next month so will have to see how my schedule will be
Sorry y'all I disappeared off the face of the earth because I was accepted to a market for my crochet business lol and I've been putting doll stuff on hold for now. I'm game for a meet! I just can't do September 14th, since that's the day I'll be boothing at HomesteadCon at South Dade SHS lol
Hi everyone- hope you're all well. Congrats Mamo on your crochet business + Sad, I just started a new job as well- my best days are Tuesdays/Wednesdays. I'm busy on the 24th/25th though. Where did you all meet last time? I was thinking we could go to a park or garden to take pictures of our dolls.
@PrettySatisfied last time we met up at the West Kendall Regional Library and chilled at a table! I like the park/garden idea! Cauley Square tends to be quiet on weekdays, lots of shady nooks along their garden paths and it's free parking and no admission fee. Anybody else know of spots to recommend?
I love cauley square!! Elaine I could get us free tickets at places like Vizcaya, Deering Estate, Morikami Japanese Museum...!
@Lady Sai Inu @Fango DeMaria @PrettySatisfied anybody have any preferences? I'm down for anything, and I can probably give rides if anybody needs a pickup (just know there's pet hair in my car whether I like it or not lol the cross-country move I did last year has embedded it )
I can also do an upcoming Friday! @Mamo I think I'm a bit out of your way for a pickup, but if you're willing to swing by and get me, I won't mind at all! (I can pay in cornbread or cookies, lmao) I also don't mind pet hair. I have four cats. I'm familiar with Vizcaya and Morikami, but I have never been to the Deering Estate.
@Fango DeMaria I could do a pickup! After checking the weather there's currently a 76% chance of rain on Friday. I know it's early in the week still, but it pays to think about our weather plan. Should we save a garden meet for better weather and do something indoors this week, or play it by ear until next Friday? Honestly I think the West Kendall ladies would love to have us back lol, they invited us to make it our HQ for regular meetings of "our club" So if all else fails, we've got one spot we know we're welcome! For now our garden/outdoor vibe list looks like: Cauley Square Vizcaya Museum and Gardens Deering Estate (their virtual tour linked there has better photos) Morikami Museum and Gardens As far as Tuesdays/Wednesdays go, I'm available then too (quit my state parks job for safety reasons, what a mess that place was lmfao ).
Hey @Fango DeMaria can the next time we meet can you restring a littlefee I go a while back. I got to go to the hardware store to see about getting an s hooks.
I can absolutely do that for you! You're an angel! Morikami is hella far away. Vizcaya is closer, but she is expensive. Deering Estate is also close, and has cheaper admission. Cauley Square is doable, but dining can get pricey as hell. Honestly, Deering Estate is winning for me. Also, sorry to hear about the parks job not working out. I hope you find something that works for you!
I hope so too, I have an interview Thursday! Deering works fine for me, it's not too far and I've been meaning to visit anyway. I haven't been since doing Baynanzas there as a kid!
Deering Estate looks like it's winning out. @Lady Sai Inu @Mamo @PrettySatisfied Does this sound good? If we're in agreement, we can then start deciding on a day and time.
Update for me on October 19th I'm off that day which is a Saturday but not on Friday that week. This is the newest schedule that got posted. The previous weeks are I'm still off on Friday
I'm working an event that weekend, so I'm unavailable. I'll be at Nightmare Weekend Miami in the artist alley.
Okay, so now we're in November. What days are you all available for? Do we still want to do Deering Estate, or do we want to rent out a room at the library? I'm still up for having a double feature movie meet at the house I split time with, but I do understand that not everyone is up for going to a strange person's home. It's just an option that's available to us. (Also, I got a spanky new library card, so I will now be able to do things like reserve rooms at libraries and suchlike.) @Lady Sai Inu @Mamo @PrettySatisfied
Down for whatever, sorry I've been less active. My dad's in the hospital again, diagnosed w congestive heart failure. I am available lol I just need to know when
Completely understandable! November 16 or 17 would be good for me. Do either of you want to still do the Deering Estate, or is the library again a better choice?
Library works fine for me, hopefully we'll have another cool winter to enjoy the outdoor meetup spots in lol
I currently don't have the funds to secure a private room at the library, unfortunately. Maybe we can go back to that idea I was kicking around of hosting a meet at the house I spend part of my time at in West Kendall?
With the amount of times we had staff stop to let us know about booking a private room last time, I don't think it would be a great idea. I do have ample room for us at the house, and it seems to be just us, so I don't mind hosting. I'm not very far in location from the library, either.
