Southeast Florida Meetups 2025 Where: TBA When: TBA Time: TBA Masks: Optional Theme: TBA Attending: TBA Additional Information: TBA Last Meetup: November 18th, 2025 at Otaku Comics & Games in Cutler Bay, FL. Previous Meetup: October 18, 2025 at MiraiCon in Ft. Lauderdale, held at the Ft. Lauderdale Marriott Coral Springs Hotel & Convention Center Please let us know if you're planning to attend the meetup in the thread, so that I can update the attending list. Original thread post below line --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay, I've been tooling around and doing some thinking. There's a place in Sunset Place mall called Tea & Poets that might be a good place for a small meet. Just hang out, order some tea, so on and so forth. I'm going to pay them a visit soon and see if this is the sort of thing they allow. From the looks of their Facebook page, this looks to be very much in the green considering that they regularly host game nights, open mic nights, video game tournaments, and suchlike. Would there be any interest in this? I know Sunset Place is a rapidly dying mall and not as picturesque as it used to be back in its heyday, but it is an option. I'm also open to suggestions of other places in the southeast florida area within Miami-Dade county. Perhaps if this works out, we can make it a regular monthly meetup?
I checked with Tea & Poets yesterday, looks like I'm going to have to go through their event coordinator. I've yet to reach out, but I'm pretty sure they're open to us hosting meetups there. I don't know if we'll have to pay in advance. I'll ask the event coordinator when I shoot them an email. I did get a good look at the space, and it's super cool. They serve drinks there, they have a little market with trinkets and crystals and such. It's very new age good vibes chic in a good way. I didn't get a bad feeling about the place at all. The employees I met yesterday also had really good vibes as well. There's lots of seating and tables, and they apparently have open mic nights on Wednesdays, and game nights on Thursdays. So, I'll get an email out to the event coordinator soon, see what needs doing, and then we can go forward with setting days and stuff like that. @Lady Sai Inu : I know you're in the area close to the place, so I recommend you give the place a look too if you haven't already, if you can. Let me know what you think of it. I honestly really trust your judgement, and having a second opinion would be a good idea.
Hey there, I did check out the place. I really like the place. I've never been to that mall, but yeah, it is super dead. Do you know if it'll be in a separate room or not.
I'll be honest, I haven't emailed the event coordinator yet. I haven't been feeling well lately, but I'm on the mend so that'll be done soon. I didn't see that they had a separate room, so I'm gonna say that it'd be held in that big main room. I'll ask the event coordinator when I get that email out if there's a separate room. Outside of this place, I was also thinking of maybe renting out a room at a library. I know some have meeting rooms specifically for things like this, they're just not very picturesque, I don't think.
I just moved back to the area after getting out of a domestic abuse situation and I would really love to catch up with people (and also just, yknow, spend time with other human beings in general). I'm up for pretty much anything. It's a bit far south for most, but back in the day (like the 2006-2007 era) we had a lunch meetup in the event room at the Cauley Square Tea Room, it was lovely and the stories from walking around afterward were legendary. Might be a fun idea for further in the fall when the humidity is more bearable with cooler temps?
Welcome back, @Mamo ! I definitely thought about the Cauley Square Tea Room at one point. I was at that meetup, I think! Definitely one to consider for the cooler temperatures. (This just reminds me that I still need to send out that email. Life has been a handful and a half, y'all. I'm so sorry. I will do better.) Since there's so few of us responding in this area, maybe we could all plan to get together in a house? It feels a little silly to coordinate an entire event that might ultimately end up being only three people, lol. A small meeting room in a library could potentially seat up to 10 people, for a reasonable fee.
Sure! And we could always just meet up for coffee and dolls or something, keep it simple like you said.
Hi! I’ve been hoping for an event like this for ages, and meeting somewhere like Tea & Poets would be awesome. I think a library meet-up might also be a good option! Would love to meet with some local doll friends, if y’all are still coordinating and looking for more attendees.
At the risk of sounding like I'm suggesting we party-crash, what do we think about showing up for a board game night and just bringing dolls along? We could have a table of us and still participate in the regular event while doing our own, second thing? I love board games so I'm biased lol, but it could be a painless way to see how we like it while supporting their regular/existing programming.
Truth be told, I'm leaning a little more toward meeting up at a house before we do something like Tea & Poets, or somewhere where we'd have to pay for a venue. Just to get to know one another first before committing to paying a fee for a location. Especially if it's not going to be too many of us in the first place. Just a small meetup at a house, get some coffees and teas and snacks together and get to know one another again.
While I'm not totally opposed to a small meetup, I'm a little nervous about going to someone's house--while y'all seem like lovely people and I'd love to meet new doll friends, I'm always just wary of the idea of going to the house of an Internet person. I think meeting up somewhere free/where we won't have to necessarily pay for anything is a great idea, but are there any other neutral areas/alternatives to someone's house?
Completely understandable! Just brainstorming a few ideas: perhaps a park of some sort? Something with a shelter that we could probably take over for a little bit. We'd be at the mercy of the weather, but seeing as it's been getting nicer out, this could be a possibility. Does anyone else have any other ideas?
I like that idea, and if we'd rather start indoors I'd be happy to reserve us a meeting room at one of the local library branches. The South Dade Regional branch is closest to me, but I'm open to others. Here's the map of all the branches, if anybody needs it!
I spend a good majority of my time in the Falls and West Kendall regions of the city, but I'm willing to go just about anywhere.
Currently working on checking out the West Kendall Regional branch, gonna see what the setup is like and how convenient/practical the space would be for a meetup. Otakufest is having a one-day holiday event Saturday December 16th in Pembroke Pines, anybody interested in going and hanging out for a while?
Pembroke Pines is a wee bit too far away for me to venture out, as I don't drive. I'm willing to go if someone's willing to swing by and pick me up, though.
Pembroke Pines is far for me. I also need advanced date so I'm able to ask off for work, especially if we meet on a weekend.
Whenever we decide on where or when, I'll update the first post and the thread title to reflect what's been decided on. I'm excited about the prospect of getting together and growing this community once more!
I got sick with a bad bronchitis, haven't been able to do much but the WK Regional branch seemed like a lovely space when I checked it out! I didn't get a chance to ask the front desk if they have study/meeting rooms but the space in front of the creativity lab has a nice long table that would be good for a nice group of dolls. Didn't check out the upstairs as there was an activity going on at the time, but if this is a reasonable location for everybody I can make my way over there again and ask more specific questions.
This is a good location I can travel to. I am going out of town the 9th thru the 16th, but as long as a date is set I can ask that day off from work.
I can also easily get to the West Kendall Regional branch! I am, however, going to be out of town January 17 - January 23. So, any time after that would probably be ideal.
Okay so I blinked and February was over. I have a job interview on Monday so hopefully my schedule will be changing soon but idk how yet (wish me luck!). I have a lot on my IRL plate but it would be lovely to hang out with dolly people. WK Regional still work for everybody? If so we can start thinking about dates, and if we might want to do something like get a bite to eat at one of the restaurants in the shopping center/nearby or something. I'll pop back in with more when I know more about what my real availability is gonna look like.
Good luck on Monday. I'm still good on WK Regional. I have my my schedule up to the second week of March and I get the third week on Sunday. Most of my off days on the weekdays. I can always ask for a Saturday if we decide on a date later on.
Good luck, Mamo! I'm still good for WK Regional, and I'm free with the exception of Sunday next week. I'm going to be attending the Renaissance Festival with my sister. :3
I just got my schedule. I'm off on the 23rd. Though I do have sick time that don't use if there's another day.
I've gotten several rejection emails/calls but that interview, my first choice, hasn't contacted me yet so fingers crossed for the job I want lol, so far I could also do the 23rd! What time works best for you guys? I do elder care for family in the mornings so after 10:30am works best for me
I'm sorry about you rejection emails. I actually have new plan with family on the 23 unless it's late afternoon or evening maybe but the 24 is also available for me. And if you need dates on when I have days off let me know and I can tell you.
The 23rd works for me! I'm sorry to hear about the rejection emails, but fingers crossed for your first choice! As for time, any time works for me.
The library closes at 6pm, would a 4:30 meet time be late enough to not interfere with your plans @Lady Sai Inu ?
I think so, I'm so sorry cause i'll be in Ft. Laureldale and it'll be at least an hour to get back. If you and Fango DeMaria still want to meet, we can meet another time.
I'm still okay for the 23rd, but the week after there may or may not be some jury duty type shenanigans on my schedule. I can keep y'all posted on that. I'm so excited for this that I bought a doll sofa, lmao. Granted, I've been eyeballing it for some time, but shhhhhh. Special doll meet doll sofa.
God I'm so sorry, I got sick again and everything from like before the week of the 17th absolutely left my brain. That's my bad, I hope you didn't go only to get stood up @Fango DeMaria !!
@Mamo No worries! I hadn't heard anything, and it was raining absolute cats and dogs, so I didn't go. Maybe we should try again soon?
I'm down! The West Kendall Regional is closed on Sundays, so if we wanted to squeeze something in this Sunday if you're still available, @Lady Sai Inu , we'd have to pick a different spot
Okay, so I've edited the first post with the information we have so far. We just have to settle on a specific-ish time! I've added in a spot for masking options. I've left it as optional, but if we want to make masking mandatory, we can do that too. I've been masking a little more often when I'm out in crowded areas just in case, since there have been surges of the plague lately. I'm fully vaccinated but one can never be too careful. I will also update the attending list as we go. So far, it looks like it's just the three of us, lmao.
I know, I meant time of day. I know that the morning works best for you, but should there be a specific time, for example 10 AM, that I should put down as when we're meeting on the 5th.
lmao, I can be cute or smart but not both because I don't have enough room in my brain for it and clearly today I chose adorable. Good eye, thank you for correcting me! I fixed the post.
