@eldi I would also recommend the review video. I watched it before I got my Bettina and their review covers everything that I could think to say. I don't really have the most varied experience with different brands of bjd, but I feel like myou set the bar high with how well she poses! Edit: I just checked the link @ResinRapture posted and it wasn't the review I was thinking of, although theirs is good too! If you want a female body review, junkyspot has a good video on YouTube showcasing both the two part and three part body
@ResinRapture @paintmeblue Thank you both so much, I'll check those out! Editing to add this question (copied from the mature 1/8 thread because it's equally relevant here)- Are there faceup artists who specialize in/are known for work on mature tinies? I figure it might be something that not everyone who works on SD and MSD is into, necessarily. Would you choose an artist based on their work on larger dolls alone?
@eldi I would look for artists who also do monster high repaints. It's basically the same scale, and they are obviously comfortable with the size.
I just got a secondhand Myou Alan and he's so gosh darn pretty that I don't know what to do with him yet! I had thought he looked like a good size match to pal around with my planetdoll Charlie, but LOL, he's so DANG gorgeous that Charlie doesn't want to be near him! meanwhile I'm finding myself lacking in pretty things for my pretty boy who is too pretty Someone had to try out the wings! by daisydayes, on Flickr far too pretty for old Ken shoes and Barbie Jeans, the handmade sweatshirt I think might be the reason he keeps kicking me and collapsing into a graceful heap (kidding, I need to suede him fast! his dramatics are adorable but...)
riiiight? He's the kind of gorgeous that I remember from when I first found BJDs (so long ago now!) I was captivated by the pretty boy dolls I kept seeing and so frustrated at how BIG they were! Past me is super excited about finding a tiny boy who's the kind of pretty I fell in love with, I just need her to remember what she wanted them for now...
your Alan is gorgeous! i have his cousin Rod and i describe him as pretty too. i joke that he must be a leo, because he's gorgeous, knows it, and loves to flaunt it! are you sticking with the name Alan or are you thinking on something else?
Where do you get shoes for your dolls, especially those with feet bigger than Blythes? I really don't feel like making my own
I've dug out my Soom fairy Metato head and done a couple quick practice face-up on him while painting other things (because the more distractions the more fun?) and I'm really....having a hard time making him look like he has a personality beyond a doorknob or a wet sock....even when I have him hilariously exaggerated eyebrow expression, he just...I don't know, maybe it's his open mouth that's making him look like a hungover frat boy? the eye shape? I can't seem to infuse any spark into him and it's making me crazy! this is why his head's been in the box and he's been living life as the Headless Horseman since summer! How do I make this gormless little man look like he says more than 'huh?' oh I don't know about names yet, he's definitely not staying as an Alan though, I had thought Ben after the first BJD I got, but....nothing's sticking to him yet! names are hard! *flop* I Used to recommend Newlineminiatures shoes, but they sadly closed last year in January! they were the VERY!BEST! of the best of the Boys Shoes! other than that I search etsy for 1/6 shoes and just obsess over the measurements in the descriptions before I buy anything (sometimes taking a chance!) is there a size foot you're looking to shoe? or a style?
@DaisyDayes I find fussing with the eyebrows in the most subtle ways really helps with that problem! (Although it does sound as if you've tried that...) Some dolls are harder than others with that though... Good luck! Metato is a beautiful face, but it's certainly very... serene? As for shoes @Viridiansummer , DaisyDayes' method is what I do too, haha. Measure the foot, cross your fingers, hope for the best. Some dolls are easier than others, depending on what you want. We might be able to help you source some shoes in here too! Never hurts to ask.
'Serene' is a much nicer term for his face, thank you! I'll try looking at him that way while he's in process of finding a personality!
My tiny guys tend to wear nice action figure shoes or plastic Mattel Ken ones. I've bought the action figure ones through Cotswold Collectables online.
I have DC small dolls, Wanda and Mini Bella, who are about the same size. Facets by Marcia has some shoes that fit, flat foot Tonner New Mood, and a couple of other dolls. An EBay seller has that same size. Also the 12' Tonner Marly shoes fit.
I just got in a pair of brown workboots from HelloCoolCat on Etsy Taeyang Doll Boots TY06 series | Etsy they are....good, they are solidly good but I will forever be in love with and praise the detail and scale work of Newline shoes Allow me to post a picture to show how very good the HelloCoolCat shoes are, and how flipping AMAZING the Newline Shoes are (HelloCoolCat in brown, Newline in Black) Shoe comparisons by daisydayes, on Flickr the Newline shoes have in scale eyelets (grommets? what are the things) and the double row of stitching, there's a very clear left/right orientation that the HCC shoes don't have, and ...now I'm once again sad that Newline is gone! *dramatic goblin fit* one pair feels like Doll Shoes...the other feels very much like a pair of real boots that was shrunk down by some wonderful magic that I would like to wield @Leo Pheonix I would love to see/hear more about the Cotswold shoes!!! (I have a few vintage Ken shoes that I love, too! my favorites are a blue and white sneaker set)
And an overdue introduction for Tyche, a HeartStrung Ruse, who I was lucky enough to get in late January- Tyche Arrives (apologies for the mess in the background)
It took literally four and a half months for his wig to work its way through the postal system, yeesh, but finally my Compassion Doll Flynn is somewhere close to done! I guess it's no surprise that such a rare and weird doll would also cause me such pain in any other way it could.
I made some purple eyes for Gray, since some one is borrowing his body he is borrowing another one. Gray Mitra 323 by SteamWitch, on Flickr
Hi, guys. Does anyone have granado tiny head and Dream valley or Myou bodies? I am curious how granado head would look on these bodies. Do, you think such hybrid could work?
I think it would look okay. Granado heads are small and would look fine on the narrower shoulders of the Myou myou and granado tiny by SteamWitch, on Flickr
My Granado Ninth head looks amazing on my mature Myou body! My Myou Rod head fits really well on the Granado Adagio body but I think looks really...baby-faced? The resin match is super good in my opinion, and both heads move really well on the other body. Let me know if you want more pictures (sorry the light is horrible in my apartment). (Hmm, Imgur is currently acting up...if you click on it you can view it, but right now it is refusing to embed. If you'd prefer to go to Google Drive, I've posted the image there too: Comparison.)
@Rakonto That swap looks really good! The Rod head on there makes me think of Inosuke from demon slayer
I bought him from Junky Spot, and they listed him as normal skin. I actually really, really like this combination and am strongly considering keeping him that way, hmm...
Does anyone know of a resource comparing doll shoe sizes? Either for specific BJD lines or for different types of small play dolls (The doll I'm struggling with at the moment has flat feet 7/8" long and 3/8" wide, just in case someone here has something similar) This was a nice resource for the dolls listed, if there's more like this I'd love to see it! What Size Wig Does this Doll Wear? And What About Shoe Sizes? — Doll Project
7/8 " is 2.2 cm. It's very easy to get 2.4, 2.5, and 2.8 cm flat foot shoes. Lots of small dolls wear that size, Lati yellow, PKF, Blythe and more. If you want something masculine looking, Cool Cat has Taeyang boy boots. You can look on Etsy and EBay, or various doll shops, such as Facets by Marcia or Denver Doll Emporium.
Thanks so much for the suggestions! I wasn't sure how much bigger would be "too" big. I did get her one pair of allegedly blythe sized shoes which kind of-sort of worked, so I think I'll keep trying along those lines
I'm betting she would be fun to sew for! The smaller scale doesn't take up as much time, but she's not too spindly either Btw, did you get the hands and feet blushed by myou, or somewhere else?
By Myou — I have a Silvia that I love dearly, and Myou did a beautiful faceup and blush for her, so I felt secure getting them to do the same for Vieruodis (gotta find a better name for her though).
It looks really nice! I never considered to ask for hand and feet blushing only instead of the whole body
Thank you! Not every company offers this service, and this is something I can’t do. Myou does a lovely job, I think, and it’s so nice to get a doll that is “done up” already, so that I can begin wigging and dressing her right away. And this is affordable, compared to some of the faceup artists whose work I love.
Yeah that's really nice to have her good to go! I ordered mine blank cause I had a hard time visualizing how it would look on the coffee color, I regret it a little cause she looks really great with the company faceup but now I have a different look in mind for mine
I got a new boy. He is a Storm Sprite Auber from 2011. I'm trying out some eyes I made but he may get his other ones back. Kolby new guy old Auber by SteamWitch, on Flickr
I made some new eyes for my old guy, 2011 Storm Sprite Auber, and gave him a name. This is Kolby in the new garden diorama I made for my mature tiny guys. Kolby 051221 by SteamWitch, on Flickr My Granado tiny Shadow arrived also!!! Spoiler: Shadow in a box 20210512_153043 by SteamWitch, on Flickr
Thank you @Idoru. I'm a bit worried how I'll do on Shadow's faceup, but I can always redo it until I get it right.
Can someone please list the mature tinies that are still available to order now 2021? Ive read that most mature tinies are limited.
Xaga is always available. If you want an anthro type Vita Magica has some mature tinies although I'm not sure if they're OT for DoA or not. You can purchase through her Etsy shop or Instagram. Obitsu has mature tinies but they are OT for DoA due to not being strung (they have an internal skeleton). Miracle Doll has (I think) 2 mature tinies available right now. These are all mature boys, BTW. I'm not up on what mature girls are available as I don't collect girls. However, it seems like there's more offerings for them than boys.
Theoretically the Limhwa ToYou girls are still available. You're supposed to email the company to place your order, and it sounds like they only accept bank transfers - it might be worth emailing the company and asking about your options, though. I suppose JunkySpot is technically a Limhwa/EOS dealer, too, so they might be able to order something for you. (I don't know how they work.) eosdoll Also, while the dolls are not currently available, Granado is still actively pursuing their tiny line and releases new dolls regularly. Mostly boys, but there's at least one girl. GRANADO
Miracle Doll has one tiny sculpt, available as a full human or with a dragon tail Myou Doll has a bunch of tinies, male and female, which can pose very well. Full sets available for all of them, I think (and if you email them, the fullsets can also be purchased separately) Xaga Doll has some male and female, but wait times are apparently long (I'm currently waiting on one anyway because they do look nice) GRANADO has a mature tiny line, mostly men. On their website they operate through pre-orders, but on Legend Dolls their tinies seem to be permanently available (I vaguely remember reading that they're also permanently available on taobao, but don't quote me on that) Maskat has some very lovely girls. I think they're on the smaller end of the 1/6th spectrum, but since they do look young it's fitting. They also sell on their own website I think, and on etsy Dollmore has a Kidult line, female only I think, but I really don't know anything about those I can try to edit this post later on. I know I'm forgetting some... (also, sorry most of the links are to alice's collection, that's where I most often go to cry over everything I want)
I did this comparison a while ago and should redo it . I need to do one of the girls! Some boys only but it may help:
Thank you @nancy_schroeder_ca This is helpful so I thought I'd add my two other boys to the comparison stack. tiny boy Comparison by SteamWitch, on Flickr
I should get off my butt and add my guys into the comparison shots. Might need to see about doing that this week.
Here is my tiny hoard of tiny boys. Granado Shadow is eyeless and faceupless (and ugly wig) sitting on an Obitsu body for this photo. He is front and center. mature tiny boys by SteamWitch, on Flickr
@SteamWitch Thanks for the comparison, that was quite helpful. New dress for my Ancient Tales Rachel..
It's so nice to see so many dolls! And this comparison is very useful! @ResinRapture, great suit, I like the patchwork style. Willow looks like a little garden elf. "Ancient Tales" is one of my favorite doll lines! I have not played mine for a long time, she urgently needs a re-stringing and she is sad in the box. @SteamWitch, I'm impressed by this huge collection of dolls! However I managed to make a new look of Yesenia inspired by the noble family estates (Toka dolls, 35 cm)
I'd like to get my D.I.M. Alana different hands. The ones she came with are undersized and flat looking. Anyone know of a company that sells them separately that would be a decent resin match? Granado's NS is significantly darker then my pale girl. Here's an old pic of her in a white dress.
Hi everyone! I'm popping in because I got an email from Asleep Eidolon that they released a new limited mature tiny. Cordelia 21cm I'm not sure if I will order her because I already have an order in with them for some mature tinies already.
@Celestila: AE Cordelia 21cm is cute! Her body is similar to the Maskcat dolls which are no longer made in that size. I also saw a Ringdoll girl this size recently. I like the 7-8 inch dolls a lot! https://www.aedoll.com/product-page/1-6-21cm-girl-body-x-f-21
