Mature 1/6 Dolls - part 3

Mar 3, 2020

    1. A bit of Chinese new year celebration. Can't be more pleased with 1/6 size, so comfortable to take out

    3. How small she looks with them :aeyepop:

    4. A few weeks ago I got pointed to SpaceStudio, a site which represents a lot of small BJD creators (most of whom I'd never head of before). After trawling around I quickly became enamored of the 1/6-scale dolls by Element Doll. The Pitt dolls are realistically bodied dolls with oversized heads, similar to Minifees, but the one I ended up ordering was one of the Gorit Brothers in resin. They managed to get me one of the bald headcaps, too, so I can put a wig on him if I want to!

There seems to be a real trend in one corner of the BJD world for cartoony dolls, and the Gorit twins are definitely that; they're on an action-figure scale, too, so they're of a size with the old Lumedoll Lights. The Pitt dolls seem more on-topic for DoA, though.

    5. Oh I'm so curious to see him once he comes in! I haunt SpaceStudio and I really love Element Doll. Male dolls just aren't my jam, but I adore how the Gorit Brothers look!

    6. The gorit dolls are really cool. I just can't figure out how I would fit them in my crew of mature tinies with thumbnail size heads. lol

    7. I got my Gorit Bro! He arrived with a broken ankle, sadly, but I got in touch with SpaceStudio and they sent me a new leg piece right away, as well as a free pair of the molded shoes from the set, so now he's fine! Definitely not a small-head bro, though.

A few notes to go with my quick late-night phone photo:
      - He's 100% sized for 12-inch action-figure clothes. I have a very few pieces and they all fit him perfectly. His feet are even slightly small compared to the rest of him to make sure they can be jammed into action-figure shoes. (The molded shoes are hilariously oversized, in comparison.)
      - His bald headcap means that he takes a 4/5 wig. It's also a really good fit.
      - He has a neat little mechanism inside his head that holds his eyes in place. I do tend to knock them out of place a lot, but in theory I can make him look around easily!
      - He came in a cool little metal box with a handle and latches as well as a cut-out foam piece to keep him safely inside.

Anyway, I'm fascinated by him and SpaceStudio was really good about getting him to me. Now I need to see about paint and more clothes!

    8. He looks so cool! Gorit is so tempting to get but he doesn't match the rest of my crew because I have the tiniest tiny headed mature tinies unless elementdoll releases more dolls stylized like this in the future. then my wallet might be doomed xD

    9. Oh he's so cool!! He's not quite my jam for owning, so I'm so happy to see one here. Please do feel free to post a lot of pictures of him, he's really cool! I love that he's sized to fit action figure clothes, he seems really after that niche of like, "action figures" that are really just fashion dolls for streetwear/really hiphop-style looks. I love it!

I finished my first ever wig! Does anyone have tips for doing the part line? The strategy from the tutorial I was following didn’t really work for me, so I ended up winging it a bit. It turned out cute overall, but the part is all over the place haha

    11. Oh that looks very manageable, I’ll have to try that next time! Thank you for the link!!

    12. I received my Bee8, human head with the pink wig just last week after paying a STUNNING amount of tariffs and taxes on him (never had to do this before in the US so, yay thanks politicians!). I ordered him last year for a specific project but thanks to my 71 year old brain I had forgotten my plan for him by the time he arrived so will most likely just sell him. He is cute and posable but I have no idea what to do with him.

      • x 5
    13. Yes, I paid a tarif on him also. I did agree with Stacy's to mark down the value. I have not paid tariffs with anyother arrivals.

    14. Ahh, I'm jealous (although not of the tariffs, yikes bikes, thanks politics!!) of your Bee8 arrivals!! I'd love to see pictures... I wanted him really bad but I didn't have the money to swing it when the order came up.

    15. So lovely! Did you do the smocking?

      • x 1
    16. I recently received my Bee8 as well! I ordered both heads and the full assortment of hair colors. He's just darling, though after handling primarily big dolls recently, I forgot how small and lightweight the small dolls are by comparison. I ordered him directly from the creator and didn't have to pay any tariffs on him.

    17. There he is!! The little guy!! Gosh he is so cute, congratulations. I forgot until this moment there was an elf version, and UGH those ears... I look forward to seeing what you do with him, please do share!

    18. @Lauryn He is cool looking! Thanks for sharing!

    19. @MayBea: No I didnt do the smocking - it's a small Boneka dress.

    20. My Bee8 arrived today (in Canada, no tariffs) and he's stunning! So tiny, so cute, especially compared to my usual 70-75cm boys lolol. Love him. I only have a jacket for him so far though for clothes. I think I read he fits Blythe clothes. I got him with pink and green hair, human head only. Need to put in the eyes once I find my putty!

Not sure how to post photos in thread. :)

ETA: I've ordered the poor guy some clothes today ahaha

    22. Does anyone know what body might fit little Bee8? My partner got an extra head for me when ordering and I thought I'd put him on one of my other 1/6 bodies, but now that he's here I can see it won't work. That head is so small it makes my granado heads look big...

    23. I tried Bee8 in a Ken doll overshirt. It looks like a romper! Love the look, though I should probably sew him some shorts. :D I also added his eyes.

    24. Congratulations on the new arrival!! He's SO cute... He's swimming in that Ken shirt, but not in a bad way.

Also, here's the instructions on how to add a photo to a post: /faq/how-do-i-add-an-image-to-a-post.59/ But with Imgur, if you click on the ... that appear when you hover over the image and then click "get share links", you can copy the bbcode version for forums and just paste that into your post.

    26. I was looking at the elfinstore site last night, and they announced that the business may close or go on hiatus:

新年挨拶と拠点移転のお知らせ。 | EnS powered by BASE

"We have received a lot of support so far, and we have done our best not to cause any trouble for everyone.

We are struggling with three choices: whether to continue as a side business, take a break for a while to prepare for more proper management, or close down." (DeepL translation)

I only know the company exists through second hand listings on Dollyteria. I couldn't find much discussion of them beyond a tiny handful of reddit posts and a brief mention on DoA. (They are cast resin strung with elastic so they are on topic...) It's a shame because not only do they offer a lot of choice (fantasy parts, anime heads as well as real heads, tan & grey skintones) - elfinstore 23cm dolls are one of the elusive few which answer the refrain "Can it fit Blythe clothes?" with a resounding yes! I feel they deserve more attention.

      I don't have the funds to purchase one of their dolls right now, but I want to in the future, so fingers crossed they don't close for good... Sorry if this post was too strident. ^_^;;

    27. Oh! I recognize those - but I never knew where to buy one before. I only ever saw them for resale on Mandarake. 1/7 scale is such an odd and memorable size listing.

They really are cute little guys, though!

    28. I know this is from forever ago but I just wanted to say thank you SO MUCH - this is exactly the comparison I needed to see and was coming here to ask if anyone could post! Right down to the sculpt being Cordelia! Thank you!!!! (Am delighted to see that they do indeed look great together too!)

    29. Hiii! Is there anyone that has a nude or a normal face-up Xagadoll Ash (32 cm) and can show a few pictures?
      Thank you in advance! ♥

    30. The new Xaga conjoined Shadea and Luxen doll is intriguing. I would love to see a mature slim-ish, but athletic male from them. Not that I am looking for more resin to hoard. I wouldn't mind Shadea on that non-conjoined body, if there was a male version (I prefer male dolls, of this kind), but taller and broader. 25cm is too short/tiny to me to sew or customize. I always wanted their Cyrus but never got one, sadly (I prefer more muscular builds but sometimes I just get what is "available"). (:

      • x 1
    31. I feel for you on the "get what's available" @Enzyme . I collect only males and it's sometimes frustrating to see females in sizes/styles I'd like to have for dudes but they're nowhere to be found. Or I see the type I'm looking for only to find that said doll/sculpt was discontinued or the company folded ages ago.

Forever ago there was a doll released (I forget what company, possibly a single artist?) that had an embossed peacock on the torso of the doll. I love peacocks and would've considered purchasing it and having a FtM mod done, but the head of the peacock went over the breast and a boob job wouldn't have been possible. I still think of that sculpt to this day.

    32. I don't really want conjoined twins, but I want the glitter legs.

25cm is really short compared to my crew though. but it is a much more childish sculpt than my 29-33cm crew of adult men.

    33. I like the concept of the new dolls (sparklyyyyyy) but they don't really fit with my collection either. What I really want is the resin wigs. I wish more dolls had a resin wig option, particularly tiny ones - getting a decent-looking wig at 3-4 size is not easy!

I have a Cyrus and he's a musclebound little fellow with a total baby face on top. Sometimes I have trouble with that - it's hard to reconcile a macho muscle adult body with a face that looks like it belongs on a slim teenaged boy. I guess I'm getting fussier as I age.

      • x 2
    34. My Batchix Clever Littles are 2 7/8" for wigs. Even a dead on 3" wig will tend to slide a little on their tiny noggins. I attempted to make them wigs (again) a little while back but neither of us liked the results. I put them away for now because I was kinda mad about the wigs and didn't like their judgy eyes staring at me accusingly from the kitchen table.

I recently got a 1/12 scale spider-taur and if he's going to have hair, making him a wig is the only way that's going to happen as his head is even smaller than my Granado15 boy and his head is insanely small.

    35. @zekarmisama the "Special" version of Shadea and Luxen come with the single head version of the torso. I wish they had photos of it on the sales page, or at least blank photos of the body. The body looks androgenous to me, not distinctly male of female. I had this character idea for an androgenous ink black mature tiny ages ago, but I now own 13 mature tinies. Yikes! And a number of smaller child-like dolls. Still I'm hoping others get them so I can live vicariously!

    36. That peacock doll sounds fascinating. I tend to collect boring humanoid dolls, although there are so many stylistically varieties now, it's really cool to admire from afar. Some are tempting.

I collect too many OT dolls and because the true target market for those still remains little girls, the bulk of those are female. So, I only collect males outside of mass-produced fashion dolls and the random female mystery boxed ones that really catch my eye (I didn't mind androgynous ones there, but I prefer my male dolls to be and look male in the body, even if the faces are feminine or just female hybrid onto male bodies). (:

I love Cyrus's face as it reminds me of SoulDoll Kimmy, whom I always wanted but was a broke college student when he was available to justify getting him. I feel the body he's on is a little stubby-looking for my liking. That's one of the reasons I did get my MYou male, despite his giant noggin and slenderness beyond my preference. He has a long torso and limbs in a way that looks well balanced to me. This new Xaga body also appears to have a decent (for me) balance in torso to leg ratio. Which is not often the case with BJD, let alone tinier sized ones.

    37. My wallet is pleased (sort of) that the only dolls I collect are bjd. And only collecting boys does narrow the field. Now I do tend to lean heavily into the fantasy as well as weird/unusual. And rarely seen/known. I also have some that are 3D printed because that's the only format they come in.

      • x 1
    38. Ah, yeah, the wording is clearer on ACBJD than Legenddoll's listings for them, but yeah the photos being conjoined twins for every product is kind of annoying

though I think it's weird the accessory bag is also including a torso for the single version. I only want normal feet in case I want to stand him.

though I also need to decide what on earth I need an all black doll for. lol the normal skin variants don't make my heart flutter.

    39. FYI, there are photos of the single head body version (in normal skin) on XAGA's Taobao front page rn.

      • x 1
    40. I gotta admit that the single head version in black with those galaxy legs is wildly tempting because it hits all my buttons of weird/unusual and coloured resin. My wallet is now giving me serious side stink eye for having gone and looked.

      • x 1
    41. I'm glad to have found discussion of Shadea and Luxen. I'm tempted by their human version full set. It looks to me like there is no option to get a single-headed doll as a full set? I see Legend Doll has the outfit listed separately but I don't see any option to get the resin wig. I suppose I could order the conjoined full set and add on the pack with the single torso. But then I'd have extra calves and feet. And I like the conjoined twin thing, I'd just like the option of having them on a single-head body sometimes. Don't know if that idea is worth over $400 to me though.

I don't have a mature tiny bjd at all yet, so maybe I'll go for single-head Shadea. Dunno!

    42. Yeah I kind of wish there was a way to get the resin wig without the conjoined twins fullset, but after contemplating everything I am not sure I crave the doll enough to pull the trigger and order. I will enjoy vicariously.

    43. My wallet is very glad I can't justify getting him (single head, galaxy flow legs, black resin).

    44. Alice's Collections has an option to add the wig with the single head doll (no clothes, though). Tbh you could probably just email your preferred dealer and tell them which options you want from Taobao, or ask them to contact Xagadoll for you for a certain configuration. I'm like 75% sure you can switch the heads/wigs around at will, it just requires an order note on Taobao.

    45. I'm making goobly eyes over The Engineer from Bardo Research, myself - lately I've been drifting in the direction of 'cartoony'-looking dolls with simple, bold, graphic lines to them, just like this. (I still need to paint my Gorit Bro. Urgh, effort.)

I'm not sure if I'm going to spring for this guy yet, but he immediately made my short list.

      • x 2
    46. Ah, ok. Thanks so much for the tip. I haven't figured out how to even view Taobao so that's good to know.

    47. Shadea is so pretty, I'm really into the human version... I probably won't get one, but man. They are calling to me... Hard to dress, but so pretty! It's very rude of them to be so cute, really.

      • x 1
    48. Yes, Shadea is so cool. I'm thinking I also probably won't get them. There's another doll I've about decided to order and there would go my budget. Love human Shadea though. I was thinking maybe Shadea in peony white resin would keep the ethereal vibes of the promo photos.

    49. My order from elfinstore arrived and I'll record my experience here in case anyone else is interested. :)

First, I asked whether they accepted orders from outside Japan/Korea via the contact form on the elfinstore website. I also wanted to order a tan doll, which requires you to send them a message requesting it specifically - it's not in the dropdown on the normal order page.

In their response, they explained that they usually decline such requests, but offered me the opportunity to order a doll over email, with payment via bank transfer.

After some back and forth, I paid for a full female doll in tan plus an extra dreaming head. Throughout the conversation they were transparent about the progress of the order. Shipping was through EMS from Korea; it arrived quickly and safely.

A quick review of the doll itself:

      • All heads come with magnetic animal ear parts. I ended up with three heads and six ears :kitty2
      • The hands attach to the wrist ball using magnets, which I find convenient. The wrist joint has a great range of motion. Extra hand parts aren't being sold currently, which is a shame because they looked cute in promo pics.
      • The elbows and knees are fully double jointed. She can do seiza (kneeling with lower legs folded under) and suwarikko (W-sitting).
      • The doll was strung with the right amount of tension; no kicking or snapping back to default when joints were 'in between' extremes, so she is very poseable.
      • There is a mobility joint which allows the thigh to rotate inwards, but not outwards. The lower legs/feet are positioned close together in the doll's default pose so I had some difficulty getting her to stand on her own.
      • The company faceup I was gifted is great quality. I have no idea how artists paint on such a tiny head. (For some reason the photos I took weren't reacting well to being uploaded, so they are not included in my post...)

      • x 9
    50. Here's some more photos! Here's an external link to the gallery in case the forum is doing that thing where embedded photos don't load.

First, the face up. I like that the ears had stripes painted on them as part of the face up - I wasn't expecting it. The stripes are made up of tiny strokes to give the impression of hair, and the inner ear is blushed. These photos were taken with flash to make sure the camera captured all the detail.

Here are some more photos of the body. I was particularly intrigued by the doll's ability to kneel seiza style. It's a difficult pose even with double joints. It took some fiddling to get the doll to hold the pose, but it seemed stable once I had put it in the right configuration.

    51. Thanks for all the beautiful new dolls shared on here. The ones that I can see are so tempting, good thing I have stopped purchasing resin, or I'd be in big trouble. (:

I got two capsules of the MGA's Make It Mini Sneakers, hoping they would work on my mature tiny MYou Bettina male, and I feel like they are a good fit so far. I own a UV pen, but I feel that, that's not going to work to cure the resin for the soles. I'll have to get a larger UV light source, to cure that before I can truly 'try" them on him. However, seen how they fit unassembled, I want to believe they'll work. Not sure if they'll work on other mature tiny dolls, but they should also work on the MYou mature tiny females, since they have a slimmer foot, that's the same length as the males.

I was too lazy to remove the socks; he has full-body blushing, so I keep him nude with a stocking as a protector, between his hard case and his blushed surface. I also keep socks that fit on his feet, because he has black nails and those chip like crazy without the extra protection.

Got the Doodle Crew Red and the Kawaii Pink versions. I really wanted the GS Collab Happy Sun Creamery ones, but I am glad I didn't get super wild colored ones. As an old-fart, I prefer more boring color options, but I also wanted to have at least one pair with the low-top versions of the sneakers. I got these on sale from Target, but I don't know that I'll try to get the one I wanted now, because they are kind of expensive if we consider how much action figure shoes cost, and they'll probably fit MYou as well. Not the male ones for sure, as they are too large from my own personal 1:6 male shoe collection, but I sadly don't own any female ones yet, that don't have the sculpted foot.

      Hope that helps anyone. (:
