Are any of you guys familliar with Guard Love tinies? I was scrolling around Legend Doll the other day and came across the Elder Sister body. Provided that I can find a good sized head, how do you people think she would look next to a Masckat girl? I have a Joy and several off topic dolls in the same general size and scale, but I am a little bit bored with the same body type over and over. My hunch is that the elder sister body could potentially read as a stockier girl in the same scale. What do you think?
I think it would really depend on the head, but my instinct is probably not...? The Guard Love 1/6s are definitely more in the YoSD (or maybe like Blythe-esque) mode, especially in the face. I'm not sure if there are heads that would fit on the neck and not look absolutely tiny. But if they're out there... maybe??
Thanks for your reply! I'm, not too worried about finding a head. Worst case scenario I'll make my own. I am thinking more about the body itself. Even acounting for a smaller head, she would probably end up slightly taller than Joy and I don't want them to look like adult and child. I style Joy to be a young adult and her props and sets are scaled with that in mind. I agree that the default look that Guard Love use the body for is more Blythe-esque, but so is the Maskcat body when sold with the bigger heads (like Klara and Gladys), so that in itself doesn't rule it out as a candidate. If anything it's a good example of how one body can look with different sized heads. That's my reasoning, anyway. I could be way off.
I unfortunately don't have anything to add to the ongoing converstation. However, I did find a set of erasers at Walmart for Valentine's day, that work for tiny BJD. I know food erasers were very popular in the earlier years of the hobby. I sadly never got any, because I live in the middle of nowhere and was always stingy with s/h. DX The only one that seems a bit oversized in the set is the hotdog, the others particularly the burger seems well-sized for my MYou Bettina male's hand. I also got a few BanDai Japanese bath-bombs with figures inside, and those also seem to work rather well as toys for dolls. Probably would work for most dolls, but I was a bit surprised at how tiny they are IRL. I never seem to pay attention to OT figure's actual sizes. ^-^;; BanDai Bikkura Tamago Naruto Shippuden Koronto Up Mascot bath-bomb toys: Spoiler: The Whole Set Spoiler: Walmart Valentine's Day Food erasers Spoiler: BanDai Bikkura Tamago Sanrio Characters Kamatkyun & Funyumaru This might be old news, but Elf on The Shelf clothes seem to work on MYou mature males as well. This one I got for my 1:6 action figures, but it probably looks better on this dude. ^.^;; Spoiler: A bit chunky but fits well enough
@Enzyme Oh those toys do look the perfect scale for the MYou dolls. And I like how the jacket looks - it works well for a puffy coat for that scale.
Werepuppy, it's a puffer or quilted jacket, so it's supposed to look puffy. However, it's a little wide for the super slim, willowy MYou mature tiny male body. Other EOTS clothes would probably not work, but other coats and jackets might fit okay. I found that one on sale a few years ago; I find their branded stuff too expensive to just randomly try for dolls/figures. (: If only shoes were as simple, even if pricey...DX
I bought the ILY Forever Bambi outfit for my Myou tiny, everything except the shoes fit well, though she does have a modified chest- I would guess the tops would only fit small busted dolls. I also had to remove her hands to get the top on. The shoes were only a couple of mms off, I didn't want to keep pushing her feet, in case I couldn't get them back off! Anyway, here's a pic:
That's such a fun outfit! I really wish they would release the newer series of fashion packs/dolls from this line in europe, they're really cool for mature tinies. I particularly want to get the boy versions, since it's kinda hard to get fun male fashion in that scale.
It is really strange that we don't seem to be getting the painted-eyes Jakks versions over here! For the most part, the fashion packs are genuinely really good, probably some of the highest quality fashion packs in a decade (as... sad as that kind of is!).
Isn’t it just? Here in Australia we only get the Jakks versions with the painted eyes in store, but I think we can buy the fashion packs and inset eye dolls from the Disney Asia website? I wonder if you can use Disney Uk? I agree, it is strange the way they are distributed. And I like the fact that the painted eye version of the ILY doll comes with two outfits, I’m thinking I may try cutting the slits on the shoes further down to see if I can get her feet in.
I just wish they would restock some outfits and dolls...so I can steal their outfits. I really don't want to go to ebay to get more outfits.
@Saba Your girl looks adorable! The pink Bambi outfit suits her so well. I have to echo wishing the that Jakks Disney ILY 4Ever dolls were available in the UK. The outfits are so cute, and they work so well for this size of doll. I've been using the Disney Store ones for my Atelier Momoni Pitusas. Oh, and my Maskcat doll Joy. Though she's my little emo girl, so it's a little harder for her. (I need to work out how to share photos...)
Thank you! I would love to see pics of your dolls, this link might be helpful with posting pics /faq/how-do-i-add-an-image-to-a-post.59/
Question for my fellow mature mini collectors. Does anyone have the Granado Rime doll? I am weak to fairies/elves and I am wondering how she compares to Soom Mini Gem or Myou 1/6.
I do have Rime. I am planning some comparison pictures. Real life has interfered but I hope to get some by tomorrow.
Thank you so much @nancy_schroeder_ca No rush of course! Just figured I'd ask my fellow collectors before I make any purchasing decisions.
I purchased a new-to-me 30cm boy this weekend. He's OT for DoA as he's 3D printed but I'm more than likely going to need to find him a partner in the not-so-distant-future. Do we have a list somewhere for mature dudes? Am I correct in thinking that currently only Xaga and Granado have mature 30cm(ish) always available? These are the ones I can think of off the top of my head: Xaga Red Obsidion Granado 30/31/32 Line Soom Faeries (limited releases, hasn't been a new/re-release in years) Akhmel Nathan, Tomoe (limited release) Youpla Vaeron (discontinued) Obitsu (OT for DoA) Lume Light (discontinued) Vita Magica (various sculpts, discontinued) Batchix Clever Littles (discontinued?)
Unoa has the Quluts, there's both a boy and girl one of those (though I don't know if the currently-offered version are On Topic for DoA. I know the original versions were straight up BJDs, so they're fine, and the ones made in collaboration with Sekiguchi are Off Topic)
@Iron_Dog There is also Myou Doll 1/6 such as Alan, Gina, Reid, Vieruodis, Rod, and Bettina. They are very similar to the Soom Mini Gems but possibly younger looking.
@Iron_Dog There's also 白零 WHITE, who makes a range of sizes and has a number of male 1/6 dolls available at this point. Dolly Planet is an official agent.
Excellent! Thanks guys. I'm making a list to keep on hand since this is most likely going to be something I'll need to reference at a later date.
Compassiondoll, which is obviously not available, can be added to the list... There's some more that are OT for DoA I can think of (Daisy makes a few but they're OT because they're not resin). Shinedoll makes bodies but no heads. Peachdaydreams (OT, 3D printed)... I'm sure there are others I'm not remembering right now... Also, for the record: nope, the new Unoa Lights (Aki and Hal) are not on-topic for DoA. They have resin faceplates with interchangeable eyes, etc but they go on the Sekiguchi ABS bodies. Super cute though (I have one!).
3D printed or cast doesn't matter to me, lol. The incoming boy will be my 2nd 3D printed doll. And I have an Obitsu boy as well because of course I do. Thank you for the additional companies @Idoru They're going on my compilation list for later.
There were also the Souldoll Littles, now very discontinued, with one boy option in the list. And, yeah, the very first Unoa Lights (Azurite and Fluorite) were on-topic here, with their funky engineering and resin bodies; there are newer plastic Azurites and Fluorites, by Sekiguchi, which are off-topic but definitely cute dolls. Aki and Hal are Alchemic Labo plastic dolls. Also in that size range (but equally off-topic) are the new-ish Petworks Boys, Eight and Nine. That's the same company that makes Momoko dolls.
Question for my fellow mature tiny collectors: Do the Ruby Red In-Motion shoes fit our Myou/Soom Mini Gem feet? Or are they too small?
Ruby Red lists the feet as 3.9 by 1.8 cm. Myou Reid's feet are 3.5 by 1.3 cm Myou Ver feet are 3.4 by 1.2 Soom Minigem girl feet are 2.5 by 1.0 cm Som Minigem boy feet are 3.3 by 1.3 cm It's more likely that they will be too large.
@nancy_schroeder_ca ah...well phooie then. My Azur shall remain barefoot then. Oh did you take photos of your Rime yet?
He should be able to fit normal 1/6 shoes! I've put my Rick in Ken shoes before, even (Ken shoes are slightly small vs action figure 1/6). The only thing that's given me trouble is super narrow toe boxes, but I've only tried like one particularly stiff plastic pair for that anyway.
No, not in my experience. They've got a bit of flex, even more so if you warm them up first (I usually use hot water). I've never forced any that are super stiff, so the use of common sense helps here, but no scratches so far. My doll isn't blushed, though, so I don't know about any blushing.
I never have anything useful to add to the ongoing conversation. I do own Ken shoes, but I don't unbox my mass-produced fashion dolls, nor their accessories (I hoard, but in my defense, it all started as a young child! Lol!). I have yet to slice my doubles of the Real Little's sneakers, to check if that'll make them work on the male MYou mature tinies, as that's the only "mature" tiny I own (Probably not?). I did however, recently modified my MYou Bettina to have smaller eyes. I originally wanted Alan, because he reminded me of their mini-sized Carr, and I always loved his face sculpt. However, I wanted fuller lips and smaller eyes. From their promo photos, it appeared as though Bettina had smaller eyes, not as small as Alan's, but not as huge as they were IRL (personal preference, a me problem, not the sculpt's fault). Long story longer, I wanted to modify my Bettina's eys smaller since I got him, but I keep putting it off, because I don't want to spend money on a clay I won't use and will just go to waste. Now, I've found an inexpensive product, that's available in a tiny bottle and not meant for modifications that require sculpting, but kind of worked for me well enough. TL;DR: I got my smaller eyed Bettina, that I always wanted! The mods still need a lot of polishing, but I'll be practicing on other dolls before I decide to rework on this guy's eye mods! (: The photo shows default unmodified Bettina, with 1st crappy face up I gave him, then second face up making his eyes look ridiculously large for no reason (no mods, just my suckiness at repainting tiny heads!), and the version with the newer tinier modified eyes! It was only a few millimeters I added, but I feel like they make a world of difference. The eyes he's wearing in the 1st photo are Bettina's default, that have irises twice as big as the ones he's wearing in the second and last photo. Which are Alan's default eyes.
I put Cian (Myou Alan) aside for a while and brought him back to a new look. I like it better than the blond hair he had earlier. Cian new look. by SteamWitch, on Flickr
@Enzyme Your mods look fantastic! There's something about the expression now that is giving attitude in the best sense! @SteamWitch That is a fantastic look. Love the wig colour!
werepuppy, thank you so much! I feel my dolls all have a ton of attitude to spare, because I keep giving them angry eyebrows (my personal preference!). This tiny dude however, already oozed attitude before I even painted him! lol (probably just all in my mind, because I wanted him to be my Ken Kaneki, so badly!) SteamWitch, your Cian (Alan) looks great in that new wig! Red hair really suits him, and his warm tone! (:
Moderation Note~ Only On Topic dolls can be discussed in this thread. In going over a different forum issue, I've come across first mentions of brands that have not been declared On Topic in this discussion thread. Finding a new brand on a dealer site that sells other on topic dolls doesn't mean everything they sell will be on topic. Finding a new brand on other social media doesn't mean it has made it's way to DoA. The forum staff cannot be everywhere at all times, so we do not always see when new brands are brought up for the first time. We ask that forum members, upon discovering a new doll, do a quick search for any mention of it here. If the only reference you see is in this thread, or you only find one other mention, it's pretty safe to assume it has not been approved yet. We then ask you to take the next step, come to Ask the Mods and tell us everything you can about the sculpt and/or brand. Provide any links you can. Then we can do a quick assessment. 3D printed dolls are Off Topic. Do not talk about them outside of Brigadoon. I will close this thread for a short period so everyone can take time to read this. Thank you~
I finished the faceup on this tiny guy yesterday. Granado Shadow, tan resin. Shadow with faceup by SteamWitch, on Flickr
@SteamWitch He looks great! I have a lot of Granado guys but I haven't gotten a tan one yet. It doesn't look very dark. I may have to try a tan one.
Oh he looks BEAUTIFUL! I still haven't painted my Shadow... oops. I keep waffling on what to do with him. Luckily he's small so I'm not pressed for space, at least.
Whitedoll is on-topic! The only thing stopping me from having more is Dolly Planet telling me the whitedoll girl one didn't reach minimum viable orders Also money The only thing bad about mature tinies is that I am often zoomed in so much it makes me realize how dusty my room is. My gaming computer with a window also getting full of dust every other week is I need to get one of those air purifiers. Everyone is kind of a WIP. Tiny wigmaking and wanting custom eyes is slow going. Left to right: Whitedoll 31CM 1.0 (dyed, with male-to-female chest mod, using granado hands), Granado Adagio 2 in windfresh with my self-sculpted head at the moment he's normally a Granado Abel, Whitedoll 29cm (dyed), Whitedoll Mini Tree with 31CM 2.0 Body (milk tea skin), Asleep Eidolon DingDang (dyed), Whitedoll 31cm 4.0 (milk tea skin, modded head) My handsome gremlin Some color comparisons of whitedoll tan to granado skin tones Whitedoll's milk tea tan doesn't match any of the granado colors I've got. Granado's tan matches Whitedoll tan in a very "depends on the lighting" kind of way. How light/dark it looks really varies.
Can anyone help me with a shoe search? This girl has 3.1cm feet, a real challenge. (Missmiandolls/WhisperingGarden Ling)
Action figure girl boots should work! And some shoes for flat feet as well, if the toe box isn't too narrow.
Not sure about tops, but I just bought some YOSD underwear from nine9 style for her and they fit perfectly! There's also some clothing specifically for her available on Luladoll right now, though it's a bit limited in terms of different styles. EDIT: I have a Luludao girl who seemed to be a similar size, so I tried the dress I bought for her (from the Luludao website) on Ling. It fits well, except for the length (the dress has a mini skirt, and Ling seems to have a slightly longer torso, so her bottom half was a bit visible) so I think that the longer dresses and tops from the Luludaodoll website would also work. I would attach pics but when I tried earlier they weren't working T.T If I can figure it out I'll do another edit with comparison pics if that would be helpful
@prophet I have Ling and I can't imagine YOSD undies fitting her. Do you have the link to the ones you ordered?
For anyone who is waiting to get an order home: I was told, that the current wait time is around 5-6 months. I ordered during the event: body + free gift head (Bettina) Just thought to share it here.
I bought them in person at the store in Seoul, not online, so I don't have a link; I'm sorry. The person at checkout confirmed the sizes of everything before she sold it to me, though, and she definitely said the underwear are YOSD sized.
Question for you all. Does MGA Miniverse objects work for your mature 1/6 dolls? Or are they too small? The Harry Potter potions are very tempting as I want my dolls to have all the magical stuff but the Lord of the Rings ones look too small. Anyone have any experience with the miniverse props?
They're really variable, honestly. Some are way oversized and some work--they're not really in scale with each other. I think a LOT of them work, but not all. I can't speak specifically to the potions series because I don't have any, but I actually think the danger is being too big versus too small for those.
@Idoru Ah okay. If they're too big, they would work well for MSD or SD...but mini makes me think of 1/6...
In addition to the size being variable, I do think you're getting extra bad value with that particular set (the HP one). Many of the inclusions are similar or identical to miniature potions and mini halloween decorations that have been available for pennies for years (maybe even decades). Probably genuinely better to wait until seasonal items start showing up in your local stores, and you're bound to find a couple of things that would work better (and probably for cheaper)!
Others have already said this already but they do vary. The majority that I've seen are closest to 1/6 though. The youtube channel myfroggystuff reviews a lot of those and shows them with barbie dolls if that is helpful reference. Here is one of the lord of the rings swords with Lilia who is 20cm tall, so she's more of a mature 1/8
@eldi That is very helpful thank you! I like the idea of making some of the small LotR weapons but what to do with them once they're made? It's nice to see that they can work with BJDs though.
