Mature 1/6 Dolls - part 3

Mar 3, 2020

    1. Illarion (my 15cm) is still naked as is his partner, Mau-Sekh (a 3D printed cat boy). I intend to make them clothes but it's on The List and said list is rather long. I did manage to make Illarion a ventilated wig though and I'm quite pleased with the results considering it's the first time I've ever done a wig that way.

    2. I also have two 15cm Granado guys. They have some board shorts made for dollhouse dolls that are just a bit short but still look good.

Granado also does awesome faceups on these little guys!

    3. Oh, those 15cm guys look amazing! I didn't know they did them that small - that's about 1/12 scale, right?

    4. I believe so. He's basically the height of a standard pen, if that. I bought mine when they were first released with the holy night package so he came with flat feet, heel feet and ballet feet, another pair of hands posed differently and he's got 3 different boy bits. Given the size of the boy bits (about the size of a grain of rice) and despite them being attached with an S-hook, I'm probably never going to change it. My guy has the open eyes and is currently wearing 2.5mm nail gems as eyes.

    5. I have a Xagadoll Cyrus (the Red Obsidian 27cm size) and he wears a mishmash of clothing from Ken dolls, Fashion Royalty Homme dolls, and Momoko dolls. Some Ken-sized things are a bit too big - it depends how muscular the Ken in question was - but most of them will work.

    6. I personally found my Xagadoll Ken the easiest of my mature 1/6 boys to dress--most playline fashion doll clothes fit them so it's pretty straightforward finding things. Sometimes a bit baggy but rarely "a child dressed up like Daddy" baggy. Especially easy with SHOES, which is a blessing my Granado boys do not afford me (much as I love and adore them).

    7. @Iron_Dog Nail gems as eyes? The effect of that must be amazing! Also that sizing is so small; I would be so worried about losing something. Perhaps I'll stick with the 30cm scale. Though, I will admit, the 15cm sounds so compelling.

@Gallye Funnily enough, Cyrus is the exact sculpt I was looking at! But I must thank you and @Idoru, both of you have given me some good information to consider for a Xaga doll. It's not likely to be any time soon, it's one of those potential doll plans type things, but it's good to have a lot of information to consider first.

    8. The 15Lucent with open eyes takes 2mm (according to Granado) but they can go up to 3mm although that's pushing it a little. I'd conservatively say 2.75mm is probably the largest to aim for as there is a little bit of gaping with 3mm because they don't sit quite flush with the eyewell (or at least they don't with my guy).

    9. I have a Xaga Doll Ken and 2 31(ish) Granado guys. All wear 6mm eyes, but the Xaga Doll has a slightly bigger head (easier to wig) and slightly smaller feet (easier to find shoes). I also think Xaga Dolls go better aesthetically with MYou than Granado do. I don't have a MYou yet, but Vieruodis has been on my wish list for a while.

    10. Yeah, I confirm Xaga and Myou are closer in style and "fit" better together. The difference in head size between xaga and granado can make it difficult to take pictures together (I have a boy Sylvia from Xaga, and a Ninth from Granado, and it takes a lot of playing with angles to hide the fact that the Sylvia's head is so big compared to Ninth)

    11. Anyone know the head size the Xagadoll Cyrus?

    12. Cyrus (and similar Red Obsidian dolls) have a head size of about 10cm. I have a 4.5 wig on mine and it's a little loose but not ridiculously so.

    13. Thanks! Next question would be...where do you get wigs? Haven't had a lot of luck in my search.

    14. Wigging the tiny guys in a style that isn't childish.... the struggle is very real. A couple of my guys wear Monique wigs which isn't going to be all that helpful considering they've closed. For the rest, I tend to make them wigs because finding something not childish in style and the colour they need has been difficult.

Illarion (Granado 15Lucent) is wearing a ventilated lace wig I made him. It's not perfect as it was my first ever attempt at one but I'm still very pleased with the results. That's a very time intensive process though. It took me something like 24 hours to make it and I could only work on it for about 2-3 hours at a go before my eyes and hands protested. I intend to make ventilated wigs for my 2 Batchix Clever Littles since getting them a properly fitting wig has been very frustrating.

    15. Nice small and expensive wigs are available on etsy. Wigs made for Pasha sisters dolls work well. I will try to post some of the wigs I have gotten.

    16. Yeah, ordinary boy-short wigs in that size tend to be absurd little bubbles of hair, because the wigmakers put way too much fiber into them. My own collection is a weird conglomeration of Monique, Parabox, Etsy-made wigs in 'Barbie' or 'Fashion Royalty' size, and this one extremely particular variety of Volks mohair wigs (in 'Who's That Girl?' Boyfriend size) that they haven't carried for like ten years, which I still occasionally sigh about. My wiiiiigs.

Technically, wigs made for Obitsu 11 dolls will work, but those tend to be the hair-bubble kind. Depending on the mature tiny, they may also be too small. It's a tossup.

    17. Oh gods, yes, the bubble pouf of hair. I've found that for the smaller wigs (like size 3), they look bulky because of the general thickness of sewn wefts. It's my opinion that going with a hard cap that has hair glued to it reduces that bulk a good bit. I had purchased Monique wigs for my Batchix Clever Littles (just barely a size 3 wig) and while the style and colour was right, the sewn wefts just looked too bulky for their heads. This is also why I intend to vent wigs for them.

While not a tiny, my FL Chicline boy (size 4 head) wears a hard cap wig with the mohair glued to the cap (from an Etsy seller if I'm remembering right) and it's much more natural looking than any of the wefted wigs I've tried on him.

    18. I also endorse the hard-cap wig option, if you can. It can be tricky, because those can need fitting to the head, but if you find one that works it's great. Doll-wig.com also has some long options; I got the "straight for custom" style and it's not bulky at all.

    19. Wigs have been the hardest thing to find - though shoes also count there - so I need to thank people for this information! Going to look at these sites, and then look at how to wig make myself.

    20. Does anyone know of shops that have in-stock mature tinies on a regular basis? I know Maskcat has theirs up reasonably often (related note- how often do they restock?), and both Denver Doll and FF&D occasionally have a few. Junky Spot used to be a go-to, but they seem like they're just selling off what they have at this point & no longer getting new stock.

I'm mostly asking for people I know IRL who interested, but are not really comfortable with preorders & do not have access to the secondhand markets.

    21. Alice’s Collections always have the Myou mature tinies in stock, if that helps?

    22. Are they actually in stock, ready-to-ship, or just preorder? I never see them on the in stock dolls page.

    23. Ooh good point, no I think they’re not actually in stock when you order, you still have to wait a few months to get them, like most BJD really, not many are there ready to be sent straight out! Still, there might be some, maybe someone else knows!

      • x 1
    24. Other than Junkyspot I don't know of any dealer that regularly has mature tinies in stock. I got 2 of my mature tiny gang from Mint on Card, but they no longer exist. Denver Doll often has some BJDs in stock, but what they have varies. I've gotten 2 of my MSDs as in-stock dolls from them. I have pre-ordered numerous dolls from them in the ten years I've been in the hobby, and they have always been reliable and easy to work with.

Both Denver Doll and Alice's Collections currently have a smaller mature tiny from Doll Leaves, Laura, available to order through them. I have one and I think she's super cute.

    25. @nancy_schroeder_ca: What size wigs do these girls wear?

      • x 3
    26. I measured them at 4.25 inches. They wear wigs made for the Popovy sisters very well.

      • x 3
    27. @nancy_schroeder_ca: Does size 4 fit? I'm assuming 4-5 is too big.

    28. A 4 inch would probably fit. A 5 in or a 4-5 would too big. Little wigs are not always accurately sized. I got two 4 inch wigs once in two colors and one was larger.

    29. Thanks for the comparison photo @nancy_schroeder_ca ! I've had Vieroudis on my wish list since she was released, and I'm planning to finally get her this year.

    30. My Myou Gina is wearing a 4-5inch, as nancy schroeder says it is too big, but stays on very well with a silicone wig cap:

Haruka they are incredible! Love the flexibility under the bust- can't wait to see owner pics, please share when she arrives :)

    31. You won't regret ordering her. Bardo Research dolls are superb!

    32. I saw them! They are SO gorgeous, as always. I love Bardo Research's girls. I feel a little PHEW that they're a bit big to fit with the rest of mine... Not that I have money for the preorder anyway, but it saves me some heartache while I pretend, haha. I hope if anyone here gets one of these girls they share a lot of photos!

    33. I found out about this company, they are pricey but I love the body, we don't see much in the proportions and it's nice to have the option in 1/6th scale, the faces are beautiful as well !

    34. @Saba: Thank you. I have 4 and 4/5 wigs, so I'm hoping to find a decent fit.

    35. Will do!

I plan on sharing a lot of photos! She's going to be an half timelord and half undead in my story with her traveling companion. I'm hoping that the diorama of them and a tardis will fit in a cat backpack so I can travel around with them and take photos where ever I please :evilplot:

This will be the most expensive smol piece of resin that I'll own. But yes I agree I love the body and the faces are beautiful as well.

    36. Does anyone have a little monica muse in ns and a asleep eidolon in ns? I'd really like to see if the two skin tones are a good match

    37. @Casual BJD lover I have a Little Monica Muse head on a Luts Tiny20 body, both in NS and the resin match is pretty good. One of my dolls has Asleep Eidolon hands, and they are noticeably pinker than both the Luts and Little Monica resin. The Little Monica resin looks yellow in comparison to the Asleep Eidolon. I don't have any photos comparing them though.

Has anyone else seen Dream Valley's new Dragon Rider Lucia? The MYou I've had on my wish list was the last mature tiny I wanted, but I really like her.

      • x 1
    38. @Leo Pheonix She looks cool - I'm not a huge fan of the resin hair though. The dragon they have her modeled on is cool too but the size of one of my cats!

    39. Thanks! your hybrid was actually one of the first I saw that made me want to try :)

    40. Loving the Dream Valley girl! What kind of ETA does Dream Valley have on shipping dolls? i would be getting the basic edition with no add ons.

    41. It looks like the Dream Valley girl's resin hair is removable. She's so pretty!

Anitya is absolutely stunning! Her face looks so much more realistic than I usually expect. I can't wait to see photos!

    42. @flara my most recent blank doll from Dream Valley took about 9 months to arrive. The one with a face up took about 10 months. Not very fast, but I love all my Dream Valley dolls, and think they are worth the wait.

    43. Odd question, but I see that Granado dolls seem to be available to purchase from Legenddolls. Are they in stock or is it a pre-order type thing? I just keep going back and looking at them and there's two I'm torn between but the sculpts are just so beautiful.

    44. I think they're pre-order but I'm not 100%. Luts is also a dealer for Granado.

    45. They are preorder! It's very, very rare for BJDs to be sold in-stock, so it's safest to assume preorder and be pleasantly surprised if that's not the case. Usually it's clearly stated when something is in-stock, too, because of aforementioned rarity. Granado is relatively quick to send out orders, though, I usually only wait 2 months, sometimes 3. Never more than that.

    46. I always order directly from Granado.

@werepuppy which sculpts are you considering? I might be able to get you a comparison.

    47. Ahh, thank you for letting me know. So I could order one at Legenddoll even if Granado site says out of stock? Trying to understand

@nancy_schroeder_ca Oh, thank you! I was looking at Lucifer and Abel.

EDIT: Oh, while I'm thinking on it. What size wig would the Granado dolls take? I can't seem to find head measurements on the site?

    48. @werepuppy I think a 3.5 is going to be the best fit. I have a Lucifer and his size 3 is too small to stay on properly and the size 4 I tried is too big. Both my Granado guys are currently wearing size 3 wigs and they keep falling off because they're too small. If anyone knows of anywhere other than Parabox to order wigs that small, I'd love to know! Parabox sizing can be a bit hit or miss.

    49. Yes, Legenddoll should be fine! But you can always email them to confirm if you're not sure. Worst that can happen is they will say they can't order the doll for you and you'll have to wait for them to open orders again--this happens at least twice a year, if not more often. I expect they'll do it again for their anniversary which is in the spring I believe.

    50. @nancy_schroeder_ca Thank you!

@Leo Pheonix Oh, that's good to know. I think I've seen wigs that size on Aliexpress? Or maybe it was Etsy.

@Idoru Okay, see that I did not know and am happy to know now, so thank you! Will sign up to the sign to keep an eye on it.

    51. My Maskcat Feline arrived & I am in love!! My husband ordered her in stock for me for Christmas (which was a very big deal because he’s always been supportive, but he always said he’d never buy me a doll), but she got delayed because the weather there wasn’t cooperating for face-ups. Then she got delivered to my parents’ house after Christmas, but we were all sick and couldn’t visit for a couple of weeks. Now she finally got here and she is SO worth the wait, I am obsessed :love

    52. @keiko-chan she's so cute! I love the book/box she's sitting on and the pillow in the background.

    53. @Leo Pheonix Thank you!! That is my normal living room decor- my house is permanently decorated for Halloween <3

    54. Congratulations on the little lady! I have a Feline too--they're so cute, aren't they? I was immediately over the moon with mine, too. She looks so cozy in her cardigan and little boots. ♥

    55. @Idoru Thank you! They really are super adorable <3 Seeing photos of yours was actually one of the things that helped me decide on her! I can’t remember if I didn’t know about her until I started following this thread or if I’d only seen company photos up to that point, but seeing how cute she was in owner photos made up my mind!
