Mature 1/6 Dolls - part 2

Dec 3, 2017

    1. Thank you, he really does have personality, a bit icy on the exterior but hidden passionate layers beneath.

    2. @Leo Pheonix Nice small patterns, looks like a good haul for little people clothes.

    3. I've been waiting forever for Black Cherry Dolls to open the preorders! I asked for Bukkumi, I'm so excited :) I would rather get a different skin tone than normal but I couldn't tell that copper makes much of a change.

    4. @Dakashy - Thanks for the link! I looked at this shop a long time ago and forgot to bookmark it. I wasn't intending to order a doll--really I wasn't--but it somehow just happened. Lily is coming home!

I don't dare look at the Black Cherry Dolls.

    5. I saw a post for the XiaoYu head that copper is similar to Dollstown Copper Oriental.

    6. @QuietYurei Thanks for the link! That's the kind of oddities I need in my life... :evilplot:

    7. Thanks for the link QuietYurei! Those are really cool-looking; I'm quite glad there are no boys, I would be in trouble. I'm still quite tempted by them, but the fact that their hips are too wide to turn into males (for my own personal taste in male dolls), I think I'm safe. They are beautiful nonetheless, I love the sculpting on the mermaid tail, and the crab's abdomen -- they are quite unique. I hope I get to see owner photos of these.

Edit: After obsessing over these for longer than I'd like to admit. I kind of find it a bit funny that the regular hands of the Crab Monster have only three fingers, but the "monster claw" hands have five. Stupid thing to find funny, I know, I'm weird. DX

    8. The "Sheepfish" is one of the coolest interpretations of a mermaid I've seen! They sure are tempting...

    9. I put a crab monster on order a few days ago because I am weak!

    10. i am growing weak also! The sheep mermaid is calling to me!

    11. I'm really in love with the mermaid body as well, though not so much the head. It's really stunning, but I would hate not being able to put a long wig on a mermaid. :P I wonder what dolls you could maybe hybrid with them.

My Auber Just arrived he has on some 1/6 figure clothes..The shirt worked out to be the worst fit of the outfit.

      • x 3
    13. Congrats and I know what you mean, their necks are so small compared to other 1/6th figures.

    14. Ordered a wig do to my other one being too big and eyes..which..I forgot to buy.

    15. I ordered an in-stock SisterFox Princesses Lily. After waiting for SisterFox to receive new boxes and make a wig, I received Lily on Friday and was able to photograph her yesterday. She came with so much stuff: wig, eyes, a mani-pedi and blushing on hands and feet, flat feet with shoes, heel feet with shoes, and a lovely two-piece dress.

    16. Thanks @El BJD! I'm glad she came with everything because otherwise she'd be sitting around without a stitch on. I have nothing in her size.

      • x 1
    17. Wow she's beautiful!! How does she compare to other mature 1/6s size and clothing-wise?? They're so rare to see. I love that dress!

    18. Thank you! I'm not sure what the size cut-off is for a doll to be considered 1/6 scale, but here are the heights of the mature tinies I either own or have on order:
      KKeRRin Alice 27cm
Magic Mirror May and Youpla Juliette 25 cm
      SisterFox Lily 24cm
      Bardo Research Lami 18cm

After Lami arrived yesterday I discovered that she can wear Ever After High and Monster High clothing. No one else seems inclined to share anything. When Juliette gets here I'll photograph everyone together.

    19. Technically, 30cm is 1/6 scale, and 24cm is 1/8 scale (scales are based on adult humans being ~6ft tall.) But honestly, it depends on whether your dolls are tall or short characters and what scale of accessories you like for them.

I saw your Lami in your list, and it reminded me that I have a Bardo Research Peme on order, and I'm so looking forward to receiving her.

    21. She's wonderful! I've been tempted by/avoiding this size forever, because it fits in with absolutely nothing I own...but your girl makes me doubly long for a pocket-sized peanut. Even the clothing is precious! :aheartbea

    22. @celga - Thanks! What's funny is that I ventured into this size once before with a Limhwa To You Sara (I think that was her name) and found her too tiny to deal with. Now here I am again, except this time the size doesn't feel too tiny, probably because I've got a few RealPukis in the house. I figure if I can dress them, I can dress anyone! That's not to say I didn't have trouble putting Lily's dress on. It's a perfect fit, but those teeny tiny buttons were really hard to fasten.

    23. She could be a doll for a doll, she's so tiny and perfect! Is she as fragile as she looks? I'm such a klutz, I'm afraid I'd break a finger or something while trying to wrestle her into her clothing. (My RealPuki wears a pair of little overalls and nothing else, so not much of a struggle there, lol)

    24. I've been buying SisterFoxPrincesses shoes for my Annflower-Doll and Heartstrung Ruse girls -- and eyeing those beautiful little dolls of hers at the same time. :sweat I'm so glad to see yours, @vermont chick, though she definitely isn't discouraging me from hovering over SisterFoxPrincesses' shop even more than I already was . . .

BTW, this is my Zlata, by Annflower-Doll (a.k.a. Anna Dobryakova, before the fashion-style Tender Creations line she's currently making). Zlata is 31cm, and can wear Blythe clothes if they run long and a little loose. I'm sure some Momoko clothes will fit her, too -- once work settles down, I want to sit down with my box of Momoko/WTG things and try them. This top was made for Curvy Barbie, so it's too big for her, but it looked so cute she got to wear it for a while anyway:

    25. I look forward to seeing your Peme. I was all set to order her when I saw Lami and changed my mind. (Oh, for enough money to buy them both! I love Oxana's dolls.)

I'm not sure what scale accessories I have. I just keep trying things I already have until something works with a particular doll. It's completely hit or miss.

She's surprisingly not that fragile at all, provided you ease her into her clothing. I look forward to crocheting for her. If I can get her into a crocheted garment without snagging a finger or two, I'll be happy.

Your Zlata is very pretty. Is that the default faceup? I'm really impressed with the artistry of the Russian doll makers. Such gorgeous faceups on such tiny dolls is nothing short of amazing.

I need to order some additional SisterFox shoes for Lily. The prices are reasonable and the ones online look nice. I'm not sure why, but Lily came with flats made of some jelly-like material--sort of like gummy bears. The high heels are prettier but I haven't changed her into heel feet yet.

    26. As far as I know, that's the default faceup -- I bought her secondhand, but the faceup matches the style that I see on Anna Dobryakova's Instagram pictures of these little 2013-2014 beauties. I'm impressed by the detail on the Russian dollmakers' tiny faceups too, not to mention the quality of the resin and the sculpting/jointing.

I've been buying SisterFox's simple flats, and I like them a lot. I don't have heel feet for Zlata or my Ruses, so it's wonderful to find affordable, well-made shoes that fit them in a good range of colors. (The Ruses have tiny, tiny feet, so I stuff the toes with a wisp of cotton, but the SisterFox shoes fit Zlata like a glove.) And SisterFox is so nice to buy from -- she's even sent me pictures of two or three slight color variations so that I could choose exactly the shade of red or taupe that I wanted.

    27. When I still had a Thimble Amelia, I was told to put an inch or so from a cut plastic straw over her hands, vermont chick. I wonder if that or even plastic wrap would work for your girl.

    28. @Cynthia in FlintHills - The flats I received are the same style, except they're made of that shiny gummy plastic. I'm waiting for her to make more of the synthetic leather ones and then I'll order 2 or 3 pairs. I need to learn how to make shoes. Most of my efforts end up in the trash.

@El BJD - I've used plastic wrap before with mixed results. It doesn't stay in place very well unless you tape or rubber band it. The cut plastic straw sounds interesting--I'll look around to see if I have some. Thanks for the suggestion.

    29. I found these rubbery boots on Amazon and in desperation ordered them to see if they might fit the faery feet of Gray, Soom Metato. They do! They slide over the feet easily and he can stand on his own without a stand. I am amazed and happy. I would like to somehow get legs and feet for him, someday.
[IMG]The boots fit by SteamWitch, on Flickr

They make him really tall but that is fine with me.

Or just remove the hands, vermont chick, lol!

    31. Or just remove the hands, vermont chick, lol![/QUOTE]

If only! I remove hands only when they attach via magnets; otherwise I lose the tiny S-hooks.

I have found your only weakness, tee hee!!!

    33. Whether a doll is considered 1/6 or 1/8 may usually be based on height, but I think it should be based more on head size and proportions. Side by side dolls of the same height may not be the same scale. Soom Mini Gem and Sister Fox Princess dolls look out of scale with each other. Some people don't mind that, but it bothers me so much that some lovely dolls are an automatic "no" for me. Though I like admiring the ones other people have!

And I want a DZ winged Arwen, even though her head is smaller than my Puki Pukis':doh. She's smaller than my mature tinies, but i still feel like that's against my "in scale" rules.:sweat

    34. @El BJD - I'm flattered you think that's my only weakness. ;)

@Leo Pheonix - My collection has reached a size where scale is not so much an issue. If a doll calls to me I buy her, knowing that somewhere in the collection I have another doll in the same scale to keep her company. I only have to buy the first one--the rest just fall into place. On the other hand, if I observed a rule of scale I'd have a smaller collection and considerably more money in my pocket! :3nodding:

      • x 2
    35. Oh yes, scale is pretty wobbly! I tend to think of it as a rough rule of thumb and judge case-by-case if I think my dolls will look good next to any new addition... Can't be fussed with too much math, ahaha.

    36. I finally took a photo of my mature tinies, including Nympheas Harmony, whose body is in scale although her head is larger (size 4-5; the other girls are sizes 2, 3 and 4). Youpla Juliette has not arrived yet--I'll update when she gets here. Left to right in the photo we have Bardo Research Lami, Sister Fox Lily, Nympheas Harmony, Magic Mirror May, and KKeRRin Alice. To put everyone into perspective, Alice is a little shorter than Barbie.

    37. That's a nice line up! I've been planning to do one but real life keeps interfering

    38. WOW! As varied as humons!!!

    39. Thanks! What usually prevents me from doing one of these is the prospect of undressing and re-dressing everyone. I've decided not to put Lily back into her peach dress. Instead she'll get the next crocheted outfit I make--after Harmony's, which is underway now.

Absolutely! Although the longer I look at Harmony, the bigger her head looks. With a wig on it looks humongous.

    40. Not sure it's worth opening a thread for this, but I can't help but notice almost all mature tinies seem to be women?
I'm looking for a small mature man, but aside from Granado (once in a blue moon) and Soom (everything is out of stock) I'm not sure what companies do men in that scale?

    41. There are men! Here's a comparison I did a few months ago:

Since then I have also added a Myou Alan.

Soom and Granado have limited ordering periods but the rest are usually available to order. Miracle does make a human body also.

      • x 2
    42. Oh thanks for that!! I'll check those! :3nodding:

    43. The basic dolls from Xagadoll's mature-tiny line, Red Obsidian, are always available to order - I got mine through Alice's Collections and I think Legenddoll also carries them. I know Ken and Cyrus are on boy bodies and I think there may be one or two others?

In the past (sometimes the far past!) there were also the Lumedoll Light men and the resin Unoa Light Azurites, plus Souldoll Little Kimmy with his terrrrrible knees.

    44. I'm hoping with Crocus's Granado teasers that they are going to make 1/6 Galileos. I am saving my $ for one.

      • x 2
    45. I wouldn't mind another Granado! Keep us posted! Where are you seeing teasers?

    47. On IG, he had a Zen body in his hand, called it Fairy Zen. Although the head he put on it was a big one, pretty funny really.

    48. There is another Xagadoll boy body! Most of my collection is male dolls actually.

Here's my Sylvia boy with my Unoa Azurite, just for comparison. I also have a Xagadoll Ken and a Soom Minigem boy, and two Granado dolls!

    49. Just as an aside, I ended up cancelling my order for the Dollshe 1/6 doll this year! I knew the waiting times were awful too, but honestly at this point there are so many wonderful other options for 1:6 male BJDs! I did really want the Arsene head, but I don’t like the mystic body much, and about a year into my wait Miracle Doll released their special 1:6 guy, which was much more what I was after. I waited another half a year, then decided to cancel.

I am going to be interested to see the Dollshe ones when they finally come out, but goodness knows when that will be!

    50. @StellaMarigold I ordered her Constantin in March of 2018, and I absolutely adore her work. If you like mature sculpted dolls, you can't go wrong with him. (He really reminds me of Dollshe's Arsene in terms of build and expression). In terms of price, he is also really affordable, as she even sueded him before sending.

I drafted a shirt pattern for him yesterday and once I sew his shirt I'll post a picture!

    51. @ATBryant - I would love to see your Constantin! I can see what you mean about Dollshe Arsene - Constantin has a similar sweet expression.

    52. She looks great Vermont chick! I've been eyeing her dolls for some time.

      Can't wait to see Constantine!

    53. @nancy_schroeder_ca since you have a whole mini collection, would you think that the xaga doll heads might be compatible with the miracle doll body? I really like that buff body, but the head isn't really the look I'm aimong for so I'm wondering...

    54. My lack of skill with technology means I can't currently upload photos, but I got a new wig for my DIM Alana Yin in the mail today. Its mid-length, wavy and "Carrot" color. I love how it looks on her! And It fits properly!:celebrate Here's an old photo of her in a Shaggies wig from DDE.
