Maskcat Doll waiting thread!

Hello. I've still not made a proper introduction but my first doll will be Yael!
I was awestruck with Maskcat ever since I saw Banyo's work and I couldn't have joined this hobby any other way. I'm happy I managed to make it on DOA and find this thread before she got here. I hope I'll receive a shipping notification soon!

 

Hm... I've been reading the past year's worth of posts in this thread and I wonder if anyone has had issues with dolls coming floppy right out of the box as of late?

For what it's worth, I just received a Ronia and she seems well strung. The stringing is looser than my first doll, but it isn't too loose for me. I appreciate a bit less tension, to be honest. It took months for me to be able to change hands on my first doll - I couldn't get the elastic out of the wrist far enough so that I could reach the hook! I didn't want to replace the elastic so soon so I just had to wait until it relaxed a bit.

If you do happen to get a looser doll you can always tighten the elastic to match your preferences better. I know it is a bit intimidating, but it is probably an essential skill for most doll collectors since all elastic will eventually wear out and need to be replaced. I haven't been brave enough to try it yet (hahah), but I know I'll have to at some point since I don't have any in-person doll-collecting friends.

Also, I have communicated with Maskcat a few times through their website and they've always been lovely to speak to. You could probably give them your order number and ask them to string your doll more snugly than usual if you are worried.

Thanks for the answer @StellaMarigold, it's the first time I hear about this so I was puzzled. I think there was a review in Chinese that said their stringing is on the loose side, but the posing looked great and I don't think it was addressed as an issue.
This would be my first BJD so I wouldn't want to restring a doll right out of the box lol
I think it would be pointless to make requests when I don't even have a frame of reference for how tight the stringing should be. Since it's not a major problem I think I'll just let them work and trust that they'll deliver.

yes. I have. I only got one doll well strung which was my first one, m Juni. since then all my maskcats came completely loose and floppy, one even had a inside part of the torse dislocated.my last one was willow and I have begged for them to come well strung. sad

 

A good part of why I love Maskcat is the posing. Any issues once the loose bodies were restrung? Do you think they need sueding? I'm thinking of dropping a few kips in my next order at Alice, at least - worst comes to worst - that would be out of the way. I wanted to do that eventually. Don't wanna think too much about it though. I'll report back when I finally get her!

 

my suggestion is: make that very clear you wish the body to be tighter because with me, the order I had previous my last one I requested that direct to maskcat and it was like I didnt. then, my last order at the anniversary last year I send them another message really reinforcing that. I got arthritis so it is really dreadful the thought of fully restringing my dolls(even tho Ill do it ) When was that you order your doll? Im still waiting on a part of my last order.

 

I ordered around Christmas. There was a face-up and extras, and Spring Festival in the middle, so even if the wait is killing me I can't complain, we're on schedule. Last time I heard was around the end of March and she needed to be painted, so I assume she'll be shipped shortly.

 

oh yes so the same thing with mine. of course it doesn't hurt to ask, there's nothing wrong with that. we love this hobby and we appreciate the artists but we still consumers just expecting good delivery! - finger cross it will be shipped soon. Which doll did you order ?

 

I just read your previous threat - I love Yael! I have 2 of them ! tan and normal! she's so expressive and grumpy but I guess most maskcats are!

 

I love Yael's expression, she's really soulful. I rarely like head sculpts but I love almost all of Maskcat's. It was difficult to pick and Yael was a last minute change of heart from Margo, because all the pictures I had found of her were of the old sculpt and not her 2.0. I thought something about her looked off until I went through Banyo's Instagram and Weibo as well.
Assuming I'm happy and things go swimmingly, I'm getting Lisette by the end of the year. But I'm torn on leaving Frances and Margo behind. Agnes has a lot of personality too.

Oh, speaking of tan - do you have a Maskcat in WS as well? It doesn't really look like there's much difference between WS and NS in photos, but is it noticeably whiter IRL? If I get Lisette, well, she's a vampire.

 

@lutke - I can help with a NS and WS comparison! Here's one from my Flickr page:

Maskcatdoll "White" vs "Pink"

In person, they are different, but it isn't like a paper white vs. peach difference. The white is just a lighter shade of peach. I've been told it is meant to match Volks white, but I can't confirm that, not having any Volks dolls.

It is a very pretty resin shade, though! That's the color I chose for my Ronia (with some extra heads) and I like it a lot!

 

Thanks a lot @StellaMarigold! This kind of resource is a godsend. So it's more of an ivory color.
In other news, Yael will be shipped in about a week (I really hope I didn't come across as pushy, or lost something in translation) so I'm very excited. And I'm getting my Dollmore order this week, which is spot on.

 

I do too! I have Lisette in white skin. Is a beautiful white, sometimes I like it more than the NS!

Aw thank you ! I made most of their clothes ☺️ but maskcats are easy to make it adorable ! I’m waiting for willow head and melody head!

 

Oh just to correct, lisettes dress was made by maskcat artist friend I guess. Not by me! ☺️

 

Does Maskcat usually send a message when a doll is shipped or do you get a delivery notice from the courier directly?

 

Normally they send a message with tracking

 

I just got a notification from FedEx that there's a 6kg parcel coming by Thursday
Edit: Banyo also notified me a little bit later, so I wouldn't have missed it.
Fingers crossed that everything goes all right (and I don't get punished too hard by customs )

 

I got my notice from Banyo today for a body for my 42cm head! Yay! (I actually got the notice from the shipping company a couple of days ago and I thought it was for this but I wasn’t sure.) The body is due to get here on Tuesday.

 

My Yael landed in France a short while ago! I hope she'll make it here tomorrow.

 

Yael is here! Pictures do absolutely no justice to how beautiful these dolls are! Absolutely unreal!
My heart skipped a beat for a second because her face protector had come loose during transport, but she doesn't have a scratch. She's absolutely perfect and poses so beautifully.
I am officially a BJD owner I'll try to gather some pictures from the unboxing and make a post.

I couldn't resist...I ordered Fay full doll in NS My first thought was "Gosh she looks like me!" and my impulse grew overwhelming since she came back in-stock after I had to miss the anniversary event. (I have been struggling forever to find a perfect mini-me BJD.) I ordered shoes too in hope of them fitting on my iplehouse JID boy feet. I so wanted dresses, too, but I had to pass them to afford Fay... I hardly find her photos and I am usually pretty into realistic dolls... She looks versatile but I wonder if there are other Fays with more realistic style faceups?? Also, How fast they typically ship in-stock items, do you know??

 

Congratulations, Lady Maeve! I've always loved Fay - her eye shape in particular is so appealing. I don't have any information on in-stock items, unfortunately, since I've only ever ordered dolls that had to be cast, but hopefully she will be on her way soon!

 

Thank you! She is my first 1/3 full doll from them so I am very excited and anxious especially because I bought only body before and ended up parting with it even though I loved the body itself. I just got the shipping notification today so she should arrive home this week! (I love how fast DHL delivers. One of my dolls arrived overnight from China.)

 

Fay is here!! I was a bit stunned for 0.1 second because she had such a big head. But that melted away I could instantly connected with her, which was my biggest concern before ordering her I feel fuzzy to finally meet my perfect mini-me who actually looks like me

@Lady Maeve - So glad Fay made it safely!

The Maskcat girls do have larger heads than many 1/3 dolls of the same size, but personally I love that because it makes them more doll-like to me. The proportions are just perfect for the kinds of characters I want them to be (I like so many heads that it's going to be a "share the body" situation around here haha - I already own Juni, Ronia, and Margo, and I hope to add Astrid and probably Bruna in the future).

Don’t get me wrong, I love her for her big head too All my 1/3 dolls have bigger head for the scale, actually. I’m starting her faceup today!

 

I’m really looking forward to receiving Bruna ! My very first maskcats have been black bunny (Juni and Astrid )and it was nearly 2 years ago so I think I missed that element of being stunned by that kind of sculpt! And yes I love their heads being bigger! I love realistic dolls but I love more when they carry both of realism and “Dollyness” lol if that word even exists !

 

Hello! I purchased an Astrid in tan skin from Alice's Collections last night (Sept 2, 2024), so I'm officially part of this thread. I waffled between her and Lisette for a bit, as the character is intended to be a vampire, but I think I prefer the closed mouth look over Lisette's open one.

She's supposed to be sort of the central figure in my broader dolly universe (and a spiritual successor to my first doll), so actually having her on order and planning for her arrival is very exciting!! I can't wait to meet her in person.

 

I just ordered Yael, directly from Maskcat. November 1st 2024.

I have been wanting her for awhile, so I am very happy to have been able to get her this month. I am looking forward to getting her. She is so adorable! She is perfect for the character that I have in mind.

Now, the wait begins.

 

@RabbidBunnies You finally did it! I remember you mentioned having Yael on your wishlist a while back. If she's your first Maskcat stand assured that she'll be amazing. The company is wonderful to deal with.

 

I got my notification from Alice this morning (Nov 17) that my Astrid has shipped!

 

This is the best kind of news, congratulations! May she come as soon as possible!

 

My beautiful girl arrived today (Nov. 20, 2024)! I haven't opened her yet, but she is here. I'm so thrilled to have added this girl to my collection and I can't wait to get a good look at her.

I'm actually shocked I just ordered Yael the first of November.
The package size dimensions confused me though. I know she a 57cm doll but the FedEx Tracking says this:

Weight 8.82 lbs / 4 kgs
Dimensions 53x12x17 cms
Total pieces 1
Total shipment weight 8.82 lbs / 4 kgs

Unless her head is separate from the body in packaging? The weight sounds right. Maybe FedEx just messed up on the dimensions. Did anyone else notice this when their packages got sent. 58cm would make more sense then 53cm. Maybe a typo?

Either way, I am super excited for her to get here!! I have her whole outfit picked out already, including shoes.
She is going to be amazing!!!

 

@RabbidBunnies it's possible that Fedex simply did not record the weight and size correctly, but I'm a bit suspicious because I remember my shipment for Yael was the appropriate measurements. In this post I mention that my Fedex parcel was 6kg. I still have the tracking number, but the page has expired so I cannot give you more info. I would try to get in touch with Maskcat to have your order double-checked.

 

hmmm...I read this and went to check my tracking from my last maskcat delivery which was in September. My package says 63x22x17 - in my opinion you shouldn't worry as this seems a typing error - the person pressed 5 instead of 6.

 

The email shows Yael in the picture.
She should arrive in a few days, I am thinking maybe I should check the package first?
I wouldn't want to raise an alarm if it turns out to be nothing.

 

@RabbidBunnies I wouldn't worry, but I think asking Maskcat to check if the order they shipped is correct, explaining the measurements on the Fedex tracking, wouldn't create a fuss whatsoever.

 

She is here!! I was getting ready to inquire about the size of the package when I noticed customs the changed the dimensions from 53cm to 63cm. The doll case is amazing! I didn't know she came with such an awesome doll case. My mother want's to steal it.
Her wig is perfect too. It's the exact style and colour that I wanted to order for her. I feel super lucky! I do want to find her some hazel eyes, and Dollmore has some that have the look I want, so I'll order those later today. I am so happy, I can't stop looking at her. I definitely am going to want another doll from this company!

That's a relief, it was definitely strange. I'm glad she arrived safe and sound. She looks precious already Yael has such a gorgeous face and she's got that thing where she has a different mood depending on the angle you look at her from.
I think the doll box goes way beyond flashy presentation and if you're the type who stores dolls instead of keeping them out all the time, you're going to be glad to have it.

 

She's lovely! I think I received that wig with one of my orders, too - the wigs they send are so soft and rich in color!

 

I finally pulled the trigger on 12/27/24 and ordered an Astrid on a 57cm body and a Pidan kitty directly from Maskcat.

The wait begins...

My daughter bought a Yael several months ago, and as soon as I saw her I immediately fell in love with the quality of the Maskcat dolls and knew even then that eventually I'd cave and order one. But I also LOVE cat anthros, and when I saw Pidan I just couldn't resist.

 

Hi everyone! I ordered Joy (S body) in normal skin from ACBJD on 02/04/25 and then went ahead and got Luise (L body) in tan on the 22nd. I waited so many years before deciding to order a doll and now I wish I had done it sooner!

 

@sanctuary Maskcats are amazing, you will love them both. The tinies now come in nice boxes too, just like the bigger ones.
