Maskcat Doll waiting thread!

Sep 21, 2017

    1. i didn't find one of these so I thought I'd make one myself! If there is one and I was just too blind to see it please feel free to delete this and steer me in that direction Haha

But YEAH everyone, I just paid off my first doll with somewhere money I made from selling some collectibles and it's a Maskcat doll Feline!!! I could scream, I'm so excited lol. I actually have a Dango on layaway too at the moment that I should be able to finish paying off next month so I'll have two dolls here soon!!

Does anyone else have any Maskcat purchases they're waiting for?

    2. I'm waiting for Feline as well! Excited!

    3. Oh that's awesome! Hope she gets to us both quickly!! I love her face so much, ohh my god.

Did you get her with faceup? I got mine with it because I really like the default faceup in the pictures but have a feeling I'll want her to have darker lips once she's here haha but since she's my first doll I also think it'll be nice that she won't be totally naked once she's here lol

    4. I ordered the fullset but switched out the wig because I didn't like it so much :) Congrats on almost getting your first doll! Maskcat dolls are so gorgeous almost every one of them is my grail!

    5. Ohh so lucky! I loved the full set but couldn't quite afford it and honestly, think it was sold out by the time I was able to buy anyway. I'm gonna order my Feline a custom corset though and get her a jean skirt probably, both from etsy and ordered her with a pair of boots from Maskcat doll so she'll still have clothes soon after arriving. Ah I ordered her with the wig in the pictures but also added an extra wig, a pink one because I thought it'd be fun. She may end up with something different in the future though, I don't know her whole aesthetic quite yet

Ooo what colour wig did you choose?:o and thanks! Ahh yeah I really love their sculpts, I hope they make more small gals like Feline since I mostly plan on have small dolls with maybe a couple MSD's

    6. pink wig + corset + jean skirt sounds like an amazing combo! I ordered the pink wig too plus the long blonde one I think!

    7. I will join this small crowd, as I have just ordered an adorable Feline as well. :) She was too delicate and sweet to resist. :P
      Now the waiting game begins.

    10. Hello everyone! I'm joining you in this thread as I just have sent the first payement for my Ronia on Alice's collection ! It will be a long wait since I asked for a 4 month layaway but it certainly is worth it :D

      • x 1
    11. I too am joining with a Feline! I got her in tan, I'm excited!

    12. Oh my god amazing! I want to get one in tan next year *^* I hope I see pics somewhere!

    13. A few days ago I ordered the new 57cm girl, Frances, in tan. :) very excited.

    14. I received a tracking number for Feline for the holidays, she's currently in customs & I can't wait to see her! And finding her some shoes ;)

      • x 3
    15. I just ordered a feline and a 42 cm body from them. I'm so in love with all her sculpts. I just hope the head I have in mind will look good on the body. I'm pretty sure it will, But you just never know until it's on there. Now I must stop looking at dolls!! I'm waiting for a dollshe as well.

    16. What’s the usual waiting time during an event? I have Fay and Feline on order and am wondering when to expect them?

Did you manage to find your Feline some shoes, vignoche? I’m hoping some of my Azone or tiny Boneka shoes will fit her.

    17. I got my shipping notice today!! I'm so excited! That was pretty fast, considering there's an event right now--I ordered on December 14th! Just about at 6 weeks on the button.

    18. She just let me know my dolls are ready to ship. This is so cool I can't wait to see them.

      :kitty2

Eta: it was a mistake the feline was the wrong color so I'm still waiting!

    19. I’m still waiting too - there was a problem with the tan resin (which is common across all companies).

    20. That's good to know! When I inquired about my (tan doll)order at the two month mark, I was told things were delayed three weeks due to the Chinese New Year celebration. Which I'm sure was also a factor, but I was beginning to wonder if there was something else going on.

    21. I'm feeling rather deflated about the delay to my mini group order - Gladys & Bellis in white and Fay & Feline in tan. I know there are problems with the tan skin but even when I agreed to a slightly faulty body there seems to be no movement.

I appreciate that the waiting time isn't really long compared to some other companies and MaskCat have been lovely in correspondence. The dolls were ordered in the Event too which tends to delay things. It's just that every time I enquire the time seems to slip further back.

Sorry about the moan. They'll be my first MaskCat dolls and I was so looking forward to them.

    22. Hilarie, I'm in the same boat as you! I also OKed a slightly faulty body. It was the seam sanding issue, yes? I'm hoping we'll both get shipping notices before the week's up. I'm antsy as well! But as you noted, Maskcat has been very responsive and kind, so I can't complain too much.

      • x 1
    23. Yes, it was the seam sanding issue. It makes you wonder if they sent us both a photo of the same body though.

    24. I mean, if the new guys were handed a pile of parts to sand, the issue was probably consistent across all the tan dolls. I'm honestly just sad that mistakes like this happen, because it just means wasted hours and supplies. I'm hoping they don't suffer too much loss from this. I'm sure we'll get our dolls in no time. :)

    25. My dolls arrived yesterday. They are so beautiful. Feline is way more sassy than I anticipated she always looks kind of merose in pics. And I really like the body I got; goes great with the head I bought it for (I could nitpick about it, but overall love how they go together.) They are strung super tightly. I almost was unable to get the head on.

They shipped SO FAST! There was a bit of a delay in getting to being shipped since feline was the wrong color which I might have mentioned. But then they were here in a week or maybe less.

I hope everyone likes their dolls as much as I like mine. They are so pretty!!

    26. Hey there, I'm waiting for a tan Frances also, ordered mid-December. When I asked about a shipping estimate in February I was only told things got delayed due to the Chinese holidays, but there was no problem with the order, don't worry...
It seems there actually is a problem after all, as you two got told about a sanding problem. It sounds like they had new employees sand the tan dolls and they made mistakes, or do I read that wrong?

    27. I don't know if rykaan has extra information but all I was told was that they had a problem with ONE tan skin doll (though this may be a translation issue) and later that ONE tan skin body had just arrived and here was a photo showing the seam sanding problem and was it acceptable I said yes). That was nearly a fortnight ago and I've heard nothing since.

    28. I see... Well, it seems a fair guess that all tan dolls are affected. Nobody contacted me to ask if I'd take a slightly faulty doll, maybe they only offer that when you ask about your order. I wonder why they aren't sending yours though? I wish companies were a bit more forthcoming with informations.

    29. I was told the new guys sanded my tan doll's body erroneously. It's merely my assumption that they do this work in large batches, and all tan dolls from this batch were affected. They said that many people have an issue with the seams on tan dolls, but that they can't just be sanded like normal. It was also mentioned that going forward, they plan to stop production of tan dolls because of this difficulty.

Better communication would be nice, but it does just seem to me that they have ended up with a backlog of work because of a rookie mistake. Factor in the extra workload for event gifts, and it makes sense that things are delayed.

Edit: I messaged then twice to inquire about my order. At the two month mark, the Chinese new year was the cause of delay. At the three month mark, the sanding issue was mentioned. I don't think any information has been deliberately withheld. Their transparency about the new issue is above and beyond what I've come to expect from doll companies.

    30. Yes of course, they reply to you when you ask and give you information. But it would be nice if they just put up a notice on their website informing customers that orders are delayed because of production problems or too many orders or whatever. It would save them having to reply to emails from everybody who's getting impatient. But I know it's not usually done.
BTW, I don't mind at all that tan dolls aren't sanded. I rather expect that, because tan resin that can be sanded is rare. It would be sad if they stopped offering tan just because some people take free sanding for granted.

    31. Ayy! I just ordered a Feline :))

But, there are production problems going on rn? That's a bit worrisome, but I ordered her in normal skin so hopefully it'll be okay :(

    32. Yesterday I woke up in the middle of a dream that Maskcat had said my dolls were ready and I was scratching around to find the money in my dolly fund for them as it had been so long.

This morning I woke up to an actual email and the realisation that I'd finished paying for the dolls in January and only have shipping outstanding as they didn't know how much it would be till they packed them. (And customs charges, of course.)

So I'm hoping they'll be sent very soon - I think they're coming by DHL which is very quick and I may even have them this week. I hope the other people waiting have good news too.

Edit: One day later - I'm still waiting for the invoice for the shipping and starting to give up hope again.

    33. Oh Hilarie, doll waiting dreams are the most frustrating thing. I had one once where the doll arrived, but it was made of such brittle material that it crumbled when I touched it! Yikes.

On the 30th, I received an email letting me know my tan Francis order will be finished in about a week. I admit, I am frustrated that I OKed an imperfect product for such an expensive purchase, but it didn't seem to shorten my wait at all. Trying to be understanding, and I will withhold judgment until I see the doll's condition upon arrival. Here's hoping everyone gets shipping notices soon!

    34. I thought I'd missed the invoice but was told it's going to be another few days. I don't know what's going on.

It's my first time ordering from MaskCat and I was beginning to wish I'd stuck to Soom iMdas. Then I remembered I had awful trouble with those a few years ago but they've sorted themselves out since. Like rykaan I'm waiting to see the condition when they arrive.

    35. My dolls are on their way! I received a customs request from DHL this morning. They should get here on Thursday.

    36. Congrats on the shipping notices, that's great news! I hope you'll show your beauties, and I hope they are ok!
Well, beginning of last week I asked for a new estimate and was told that my doll was there but they needed at least a week to finish makeup. That's great news too, only I didn't order makeup... :huh?: I hope that was just a translation problem...

    37. The girls arrived this morning and are fabulous! There are a couple of rough seams on tan Feline but tan Fay seems to be ok (nothing particularly noticeable) so perhaps they waited for better bodies before sending them. I'm really thrilled with them.

    38. My Frances arrived yesterday. She was very nicely packaged, but it's very obvious this doll was finished in a rush. Jagged edges, inconsistent finishing, lots of resin dust, and very badly sanded seams(which I did approve, however.) If I didn't have the skills to finish and fix her, I'd be very upset for how much I paid vs the quality I received. Despite this, I love her very much, and she's gonna be sticking around here for quite a while! She just needs some TLC.

    39. I'm so sorry you've had this trouble. I must have been very lucky (or am just very short sighted). I don't think I'll order tan again but more because I find it difficult to style. I have a spare white Fay head so am planning to get a body for her some time.

    40. Oh dear rykaan, that sounds awful! I hope you'll be able to fix her.
That's great, Hilarie, I'm glad for you that your shipment was fine!

My girl was shipped last week - sadly with the wrong shipping company (though they first agreed to use the other one, which would have caused less trouble and fees for me). But she's in customs now and hopefully I'll get her sometime this week.

    41. Well, I just ordered Gladys--before reading this thread! I actually don't care about wait times, but I did order her in tan, so I hope that works out all right. I also ordered a custom face-up and I'm interested to see how that's going to turn out.
I got her through DollMix, one of the sites linked on MaskCat and the final price was surprisingly reasonable. For this hobby, anyway.
I've always wanted an excuse to buy Blythe things--they're so cute--but without getting a Blythe. So now I'll have my chance.

    42. Don't worry, phanuel, the tan is beautiful! It was seemingly just a problem with a few dolls that got sanded accidentally by new staff. My Frances is perfect. :)

    43. @Ophiaca , thanks, that's good to hear! This is the first time I've ordered from this company and didn't realize they had so many lovely sculpts.

    44. It was my first order too! I'd been on their site many times for quite a while and couldn't decide which one I liked best. Then when Frances came along my fate was sealed! :D They have a very unique and lovely style.

    45. Just received my Gladys today! She came without warning, a nice surprise. I had ordered her on May 3 through DollMix so that's not a bad wait time.
I had asked for a custom face-up, which they did with no extra charge and it turned out great. They also included eyes (already inserted) and a wig.
She arrived in a lovely, cushion-lined, wooden presentation box. This is my first time ordering from MaskCat and I'm very pleased.

    46. Hey guys! So I ordered a Margo recently, which is pretty exciting since I've been wanting to order from maskcat for awhile:kitty1 I had such a hard time choosing which sculpt to get, since I was really stuck between a couple. Since I've never ordered from them before I was wondering how long it may be for her to get here? I ordered her in pink skin without a faceup, so she's pretty plain and simple. I don't really mind waiting, but I was curious what the wait times are like usually?

      • x 2
    47. @phanuel , ooo congrats! Do show her off to us sometime :D

@Starbaby13 , congrats on your order! Margot is a beautiful sculpt. Idk what the wait times are like right now, but I waited about 2 months last time I ordered.

I snagged the one-off pink skin Inez ! My plan was to order blank Inez and a Bruna head, but when I saw the Inez fullset was available, Bruna had to wait until later:lol:
Placed the order on 8/21, hopefully she ships soon!

    48. @phanuel she looks so cute!

@Cydril thank you! I'm super excited for her to arrive:) that's not bad compared to other wait times I've had, but I guess all there is now is to wait patiently lol.

      • x 3
    49. I've never joined a waiting room before but I just had to share with someone that I've finally ordered from Maskcat!

I had so much trouble deciding between Frances and Bruna, especially with a full set Frances available in stock from Fabric Friends. I just couldn't swallow the (significant) price increase over ordering directly from Maskcat. I may be wrong, but I feel like ordering from Maskcat might be more beneficial to the company?

I settled on the fullset Bruna but couldn't resist adding a Frances head. Because of the shipping, you know :) It is so easy to "economize" by spending more money ;)

Of course a fullset in stock Bruna showed up at FF just after I placed my order.

I'm feeling much calmer and more patient than after I ordered my Minifee just before their brief closure.

Is anybody else expecting something lovely from Maskcat?

      • x 1
    50. @rosewader that's awesome! I can't wait to see them, I hope they get to you soon:)
I ordered a margo from the maskcat store around the beginning of August and she just arrived earlier this week! I am really in love with the whole companies presentation and style. She also poses so well I'm actually really impressed with her. I'd like to put some nice box opening pictures of her up as soon as I can. (It was pretty surprising when she arrived so quickly compared to other dolls I've ordered. It was definitely a pleasant surprise though:lol:)

    51. That it's so exciting! I would absolutely love to live vicariously and see some box opening pictures! Any pictures actually, I am so curious about Maskcat :)

Margo is so lovely. I was sorely tempted by her as well. That face tells such a story.

Did you get the Maskcat faceup or will you be doing it yourself?

    52. I was torn between margo and frances, but I also thought she had a lot of personality to her especially with the way they had styled her.
I got her blank, and I'm going to paint her myself. I started doing faceups a few years ago, I really love doing them. I would actually love to start doing commissions for others as soon as my school schedule lightens up and I can get that all set up properly:)

      • x 1
    53. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

I'm so impressed by people who can do faceups and it always seems to look so simple, but I know that it is not. I've seen the results of the porcelain doll making craze :)

You should absolutely do commissions. It was a struggle for me to find an artist located in the US. It would be great to have more options.

Do you start with an expression or character in mind?

Forgive me for being nosy :) I'm so curious about how a blank doll becomes a character or gains a personality. It seems like such a personal process

      • x 1

    54. -Thank you for the words of encouragement! that was actually a big reason i wanted to start improving and eventually taking commissions. I had a hard time finding many artists in the U.S especially doing the style i was looking for.
I do think painting my own dolls has made them feel for personal, i'm not one for making very elaborate characters or anything so it's mostly about the look for me. the mood of the sculpt or features helps alot with how i want them to be painted, so i think sometimes character comes after i've painted them for me personally:)

-I also added a box opening photo series on flickr and instagram for anyone who is interested, i tried to make it look nice in the process! I'm going to try to paint her in the next week or two, so i'll make sure to have pictures of that up when i do as well:)

    55. Hello everyone! May I join you? I just ordered Inez from Maskcat doll on Etsy. I got her with no faceup, in white skin. I already have Feline and love this cute size so much! It’s so fun to explore all the Blythe clothes and shoes for them... there is so much available! She’s going to be my pale little Victorian ghost girl. Now to think of a name for her.

      • x 1
    56. That sounds so cute! I'm trying to think up a good name for my new maskcat as well. I can't wait to see that, I love your idea for her:)

    57. Hello, everyone! I would like to join this theme:XD: I just ordered Feline in white skintone and I'm already so happy. It's my very first direct order from the company, not from the secondary market.
Can't wait to start crafting and sewing for her! And I wish to everyone who awaits here a fast shipping and some good news about your beauties!
Also, I am sorry for my bad English. ._.

    58. Just realized I never posted here but I ordered Astrid! She is so stunning, I keep returning to pictures and falling in love again.

    59. Contacted the agent I purchased from, and they told me that Maskcat was working on orders from September. SIGH. (I ordered at the end of November.)
