dang, i messaged maskcat to ask for an update and they said that the weather has been bad so they havent started the faceup yet darn weather!

 

thats a long time...It didnt used to be like this...im curious to know how your doll will feel like, as in, well strung etc...I now have the 2 recent orders from maskcat and they both extremely floppy! This is very disappointing considering their price and I even ask to have them well strung. The only Maskcat that it came perfect was my very first one, Juni, but every doll after that has not been the same. I worry if they are going down the quality because too many orders? I Hope not....

 

I felt like my Juni was strung extremely tightly when she arrived. To me that is more of a problem then the elastic being loose, because too-tight elastic can lead to excessive stress on the joints and resin, which can cause damage. I didn't say anything to them about it, but perhaps others did and they have started to string a bit more loosely?

This is just my opinion so I understand if you do not agree, but I don't think looser elastic is a sign of lower quality (unless it is so loose that parts are literally separating from each other). Elastic can be tightened, after all, and most dolls will eventually need to be completely re-strung anyway as elastic doesn't hold its stretch forever. I would consider a lowering of quality to be poor resin mix (uneven colors), sharp/jagged seams, damage to the parts, etc.

I know re-stringing or even just tightening elastic can be scary, though @dbfacao! I haven't even tried it myself yet, but if you need to tighten your Maskcat dolls, I hope you can find someone to help you if it seems too intimidating on your own.

I only mention my reservations above because I think it is important not to cast doubt on a company without really good cause, as it might keep others from ordering from them, and then they might not be able to maintain their business, which would be sad.

Also, I don't know if it is just me, but four months seems really quick for a smaller company, especially with a faceup added! I expected five-six months when I ordered, and I believe it was about five months.

I'm sorry about the delay though @Dinadi - hopefully the weather will clear up quickly so your doll can be on her way to you soon!

I received a bust stand from them last month and the resin quality seems exactly the same as the doll I previously ordered - and also it was strung SO tightly I couldn't even put a head on it! I had to disassemble it and now I need some strong tools to loosen the knot so I can re-tie it. Another thing to consider is perhaps the time/temperature during shipping that might effect elastic?

 

Just ordered a 57cm girl body for my Black Cherry Ichigo in tan! So excited. When I saw this body sculpt after weeks of researching I just knew it was the perfect one for Ichigo. Does anyone have an idea of how long I will be waiting for just a blank body as opposed to a full doll?

And Astrid is actually going to be my very first BJD so this is my first experience with production times and waiting, so I had no idea what to expect! It's a bit of a relief that 3-4 months is considered a very fast production time for a small company like this, so now I can relax a bit more about waiting. I was worried that since it's past the 4 month mark that something might be wrong!

 

@dbfalcao - you make some good points! I'm sorry about the stringing not being what you were hoping for. I wonder if the weather during shipping had anything to do with it? (I live in the South and one doll I ordered - not from Maskcat though - arrived in the middle of summer and the parts were practically stuck together because of being effected by heat). Perhaps elastic could also be effected by cold or heat?

But if it is Maskcat changing their stringing, then if you do order again, maybe try sending them a message on Instagram? I have been able to get a reply there in the past. If they reply you can be sure that they saw it - whereas a message just attached to an order might be missed.

@Dinadi - I understand the anxiety of waiting for the first doll! I'm glad you feel reassured now. It is hard to wait (I'm pondering a future order and wincing at how long it will take haha). But hopefully it will be worth it in the end. I certainly think you chose a wonderful doll as the first one!

 

Well, yes I messaged them through the messaging system on their website. I f they re-launch one of their exclusive heads Ill def order gain and ill make very clear more than once I need the doll to be properly strung ! I managed to tightened Frances elastic a bit and it already made a difference but still needed to be even tighter. im not sure if is the weather because when I got Yael was cold and she was very floppy too.

 

That makes sense! I would expect hot weather to be a problem, but if the weather was cold - it seems unlikely!

If they decided to renew some of the sold-out heads, I would love to see Fay, Nerine, and Xilv! I doubt they will do this, but their new sculpts are beautiful, too. I look forward to seeing what they do in the future.

 

I asked them a few times and they said both times that around their anniversary, I could order Willow and Fay. I love fay she reminds a lot of Yael! Im hoping they do re launch them!

Oh, congrats! I had the same hybrid for a while, but in NS. If you like more realistic proportions in terms of head size relative to the rest of the body, this is a great choice ^^

 

Got a shipping notice from DHL. No messages from Maskcat but no one else I've ordered from says they will use DHL, so finger's crossed!

 

I also got a shipping notif from DHL and literally *one* day later the doll arrived! Super speedy shipping!

 

Update: I emailed Alice's Collections on Jul 10th about my orders. I got a reply on the 12th that my doll will be ready to ship in 2 weeks. My Dollzone order should be ready to ship around the same time.

Ordered a Yael 8/25 from alice collections. After commenting on one of Maskcat’s instagram posts I was happily surprised they said they shipped a Yael to them a few days ago. Fingers crossed it’s my doll I didn’t expect it so soon. So it’ll be a pleasant surprise if so

 

I did it! I finally ordered my grail doll Ruolan with the 10th anniversary event! After years of tears and feeling like I lost my chance to ever own the original doll that made my heart swoon for this hobby she is mine! I now must wait for her to get here but I have soooo much to do now. I've already made a empty "room" so I can fill it with furniture and goodies for my love I truly can not explain the amount of joy that inside my body right now. I have happy cried sooooo much already and I'm sure when I open her it will only be a flood of more happy tears! It's all thanks to my amazing fiance that purchased her for my Christmas present! Best present EVER!

 

I just ordered my very first 42 cm Maskcat doll! (I already have 2 of the 57cm dolls and 1 other hybrid as well as 3 of the 1/6 scale dolls.) I really like the Maskcat Dolls! I seem to order one every December. I ordered Bellis. I found her in stock and I am going to get a face-up. I bought one of the dresses for her too. She is a very different 1/4 scale doll for me. My other 1/4 dolls are adult style dolls, but I see Bellis as a child so she will be a younger sister to one of my 57cm dolls. Any ideas about clothing or shoes that will fit her? I have some minifees and 2 MDDs. Will their clothing fit? I am excited for this girl!

 

Congratulations! I wonder if that's in-stock Bellis in NS. I had her in my card forever but I just saw her sold out Any general MSD shoes would fit. if the description indicates Volks MSD it's going to be too wide. I have Sartorial J MSD flat shoes as well it fits just perfect as well

 

Does anyone here owns Maskcat in tan or Volks in tan?? I wonder if its close to Nakana tan... (It doesn't have to exact match. I can manipulate little difference with faceup anyways.)

@Lady Maeve - I don't own any Volks dolls or Nakana dolls (yet - I love their head sculpts) but here is a comparison with Maskcat tan and a few others. This is the newer tan which I believe is meant to be closer to Volks Tan:

It was the one that was in stock until earlier tonight. Sorry! Good news is, Maskcat doesn’t usually take too long to produce the dolls. Except for a few times when the weather caused them to postpone doing face-ups, they usually only take 3-4 months, sometimes even less!

 

Oh no, don't be sorry! I'm more relieved that my temptation is gone and she found a loving home! I was resisting to buy Bellis and when she appeared with extra discount I was sooooo tempted but my doll area is really maxing out without her I'm still on the edge to buy her head or full doll with the 2.1 ver body during the sale tho. Yes I'm impressed how fast they work every time I place order!

@dbfalcao Those are a beautiful set of pictures! I love your diorama. That is Bellis, right? I think she looks so different in many settings and with different wigs and face-ups. Yours is beautiful!

 

I'm waiting on an event before I buy a body for my Maskcat head. I was hoping it'd be during Alice's usual winter sale season but alas. Fingers crossed for New Year's!

Woke up to the most amazing news today! Ruolan has shipped and is making her way to me! I am beyond giddy and excited for her to get here. Which means now begins the chronic shipping checking until she is delivered but I have so much energy to keep working on her room. She already has a wooden entertainment cabinet that has been claimed and designed for her room. I've made wigs, clothes, shoes, eyes, furniture, props and even working on a woodland background for photos inside when weather is bad in my area. She is my first SD so all the things I have for my MSD Myou Daisy will probably not be proportionate anyways but I'm so excited to have her in my hands. I fear her size will be difficult at first since I have back issues and might need help carrying her. She is my grail doll I've waited for over 10 years for so just the thought of not being able to enjoy her or my worst nightmare "for whatever reason I can't bond with her like I thought" but I highly doubt I won't love her just as much as I have for years. Everything I look at her photos I swoon so not loving her is not an option lol sorry for such a long post

The verdict is in . . . . She is spectacular! She is everything and more than I could ever ask for. I do believe I've been converted to the 1/3 family, with regards to the weight concerns, she is a touch heavy but nothing I can't handle. The experience with Maskcat was great except I had thought for a moment I lost keys that were meant for the case when I noticed the key holes on the push locks. After a few emails back and further with Maskcat ( just them at first thinking I meant I didn't know how to open the case) I was able to come to the understanding that keys aren't included with their cases even though there is a little key hole on them. There was the tiniest of smudges on her ankle but nothing a light magic eraser job couldn't remove in seconds. I was literally in tears unwrapping her beautiful face and exquisitely sculpted hands. I am working on getting a set made for her first photo shoot so I can post all the fun stuff like profile, box opening and dress up videos I have planned. I can already feel wanting another girl in the future by Maskcat just on their customer service skills and the sheer quality of dolls they create.

 

Yes, I actually had a lot of trouble figuring out how to open the box! lol! Maskcat does a wonderful job with the face-ups! And I especially love their hands and feet - so much detail! Enjoy your doll! I love mine!
