Maskcat Doll waiting thread!

Sep 21, 2017

    1. @StellaMarigold : Thanks! The head has a pretty heavy pink blush though (it makes her looks more alive, and the mauve tones adds to her Morticia Adams vibes so I don't dislike it XD), if you look at the hand, it is pure WS resin.

It IS harder to photograph though IMO. I don't mind it, but others might.

    2. Thanks! I realized there were more photos in your Flickr page :) - the pink skin must be very light indeed since it doesn't look that much darker than the white in some of the photos.

I hope you'll get used to her look and really enjoy the new girl.

    3. @lyaam12 Astrid looks beautiful, very dramatic and moody! Your girls look fantastic together in the comparison photos. It's always challenging when a sculpt isn't quite what you expect, but hopefully you'll be able to fall in love with her in time.

@StellaMarigold I don't know if this will be useful to you, but Maskcat's normal resin is comparable to "normal" resin colors from other companies that I own, such as Little Monica and Little Rebel (from back when they used Harucasting's resin colors). It is noticeably more saturated than any of the white resin dolls I have, which are all on the ivory end of the spectrum and not paper white. In Maskcat's official full-body resin color comparison photos, the difference between normal and white appears to be rather stark!

    4. @Gamine: Thanks! :) I am going to amp up the dramatic and "artificial" side of her by giving her purple eyes and purple manicure. She's going in a totally different direction than my Yaël, but it's fun too! It's fun, because IMO Astrid is more conventionally pretty, but Yaël definitely has a more subtle charm. They are such wonderful sculpts. I am so excited to see what you will do with yours :D

@StellaMarigold: In person, the WS looks to me at least, less "bright paper white" and more of a "muted paper white" if it helps. I think they used a different light when they took the studio photo. My Astrid doesn't look like a normal human, but more like a beautiful corpse, if it can help? The NS is definitely more saturated, (yet way less than what I would consider normal human skin to be). I will try to take more pictures when the light is better, but today is shot with heavy clouds as well and it probably be that way until next week :sweat

The NS doesn't look shocking next to Maskcat WS (Lighting and faceups may have helped?), but it definitely is more saturated than some other dolls. I have a moderately old IOS doll, presumably in IOS NS, made in 2015, whose head is noticeably darker because of its faceup, but if you compare the neck to my Yaël's skin, you'll notice that she has way more red pigments in her resin.

(On a side note, if my Astrid yellows like the IOS doll, I would be fine with that.)

    5. Thank you very much @Gamine and @lyaam12! At this point, I'm leaning more and more to NS, just because it seems more versatile. I appreciate your descriptions and advice very much. Please take your time with the photos - I'm grateful for all the help so far :)

Yael is certainly beautiful! She, Margo, and Ronia are my favorite of the originals, and Juni is my favorite of the newer sculpts. I'm forcing myself to stick with just one head this time, but I would definitely order other heads to go with the one body in the future if everything works out.

I like the color of your IOS guy - it looks rather like ivory. If the MC WS mellows like that, I would like it too! Or even if the NS mellows and ends up a bit more creamy (since reds tend to fade more quickly).

    6. It's me...again...XD

To celebrate my new job, I very impulsively bought a Frances NS head with faceup and two pair of hands. (I planned to wait for the wigs, but they turned out to be a bit short for me and I debated waiting for the event and well...nah.)

With Frances, I will have the three heads I originally fell in love with. I still love Margo and Ronia and may very well get them one day, but I still don't have a clear picture of who they will be in my universe, which is why I will hold off (for now...)

Now I just have to wait for the preorder for the Argodoll body to open...

    7. Congrats on your Frances @lyaam12 ! That is such a pretty and versatile sculpt :)

I'm curious how long have you guys been waiting for your dolls lately? More than 6 months or less?

I ordered Lisette in March and have been waiting patiently for four months because I was able to forget about this purchase (my favorite way to speed up the wait). I was told somewhere that the estimated wait time is now extended to about 6-7 months. But oh my goodness, I am so impatient right now! This will be my first full SD (I only have the SD head, which I bought recently for the hybrid with Lisette body) and I'm very curious to see how it looks in person. I ordered the previous doll so long ago that I forgot how to wait patiently :sweat

    8. @Caramello_Cat : I totally understand the excitement! XD I waited 4 months for my Yaël's fullset and three wigs and 6 months for my Astrid with face up, one pair of hands and 3 wigs. I was way way more impatient for my Yaël, as she was the first and all. For my Astrid, I had two dolls to spoil, so she was pretty much an afterthought before she came home!

I think yours should be in production, if not now, in the near future, as I ordered at the end of their event, so the "event orders", which are usually bigger than normal, have pretty much been processed. Fingers crossed!

    9. @lyaam12 Haha, so this kind of excitement is normal, good to know :XD: I ordered only a blank doll with an extra pair of feet, so hopefully it will take less time to produce than a fullset. But your Yael was quick! Also thanks for the reply and keeping your fingers crossed! :)

    10. @Caramello_Cat : I think it was quickly done because I ordered in June. The event orders of december were about to be completed and the new event was in summer, so I got lucky? XD Lisette is a wonderful sculpt, so I am eager to see what you will do with yours!

    11. I just ordered a 57cm body from Alice's Collections! It doesn't feel real. I also ordered a Dollzone Merlin head to try to hybrid it. I've wanted this since last October (at least) and now that I've actually ordered them, I can't even process it. I know it's too early to say, but I imagine I won't be able to fully process it until I get the shipping notice. Hopefully I won't start bouncing off of the walls until then, at least.

    12. @Ara.dox Congratulations on placing your order, how exciting!! DZ Merlin is such a cutie and the Maskcat 57 cm body is a dream to pose, sounds like you're going to have a lovely hybrid for yourself :kitty2 I hope the wait is fast and painless, and I can't wait to meet your doll once they arrive! Do you have any kind of character plans for them?

      • x 1
    13. I kind of do. I know the general style I want to go with for her clothes, hair and faceup, but I haven't really figured out her personality yet. I think that I want her to live in some kind of post-apocalyptic world, and maybe have a punk/tough personality, but I haven't decided on much more than that, which is kind of funny because I came up with her design maybe 1.5--2 years ago. She's somehow my favorite character that I've made despite the fact that I've barely developed her personality and world. Right now, she's more of an "art character" than a "story character," if that makes sense.

      • x 1
    14. @Ara.dox Congrats! This hybrid sounds so cool and interesting! I'm curious to see what it will look like when the parts arrive. I'm also waiting for a Maskcat doll that will have a hybrid body with a different head, so I understand the excitement :XD: A post-apocalyptic world with a punk/hardcore personality sounds like a good theme to me. I love the post-apo style of clothing.

      • x 1
    15. @Ara.dox : I'm looking forward to see your hybrids! Please do post pictures, as I am sure she will be gorgeous. :D

      • x 1
    16. That's awesome! What head are you going to hybrid it with, if you don't mind me asking?

I hope I'll have enough self control when she arrives to take pictures for a box opening thread, but if I don't I'll try to at least post pictures of her here.

    17. My Astrid was shipped today! Just got the email with tracking information, can't wait for her arrival ♥

    18. I bought for this a head from Nakana Doll named Panya in January. She is currently waiting for this body with unfinished makeup :sweat

Congrats! Be sure to show us photos when she arrives ^^

      • x 2
    19. Aw, Panya's expression makes her look like someone just woke her up from a nap, it's so cute. I love how realistic she looks, I think she's going to look great on the Maskcat body!

    20. Thank you so much! Sure, I’m very excited about her so there will be a lot of spam

    21. I ordered Juni through Legend Doll back early May. They are telling me another 1-2 months. I wish I had known better at the time, I would have ordered direct. But I can't fix that now. I am getting frustrated with the wait. I have ordered 3 dolls since then and the third was just shipped.

      • x 1
    22. @Cabernay - I'm sorry about the wait! It is definitely one of the more difficult things about this hobby. If it makes you feel any better, I think the current wait even from the Maskcatdoll itself is about six months (some people have said five, but I think that was during a slower time and also perhaps didn't have Covid involved). So it might not have been quicker if you had ordered directly from them.

Either way, I hope it is only one month and that your doll arrives quickly and safely after that! I'm waiting for a Juni as well (just ordered in late August) so I'm not expecting to see her until January or February.

What color did you choose? Do you have any concept for faceups, clothing style, etc. yet?

      • x 1
    23. I ordered normal pink skin. I am going to get a custom wig something similar to this hair [IMG]
I am going to sew her some super frilly lacey clothes lol. I had them do the face up but I may have it re-done by Michelle Olrich after I get her. I love to sew Victorian/Edwardian clothes so I am really excited to sew for her.

I also ordered a Lissette head direct from Maskat and I intend to switch the heads. The Lissette head will be sent to Michelle Olrich to paint. She painted my Iplehouse vampire and I love it. Here is a pic of the Iplehouse head.
I am going to the BJD doll show in San Diego in November. I may look for another body there. I am not sure what to expect at a BJD show, I have been to lots of normal doll shows. So many options lol What are you doing with yours?

      • x 2
    24. That will be a beautiful wig! And your Iplehouse vampire is stunning so I’m sure Lissette will look amazing.

I ordered Normal Pink as well (after a prolonged fight between it and White skin, lol - I figure if I really love the doll I can order a different sculpt in WS later on). I would also like the body to share heads in the future - Ronia and Margo are two of my other favorite Maskcat sculpts. And my “grail” in the doll hobby is being able to sculpt my own heads (and eventually full dolls) so I’m studying ZBrush right now. If I work hard maybe I’ll be able to have a head ready and at least 3D printed before Juni comes in!

For Juni I’m hoping she will work for a Victorian character I’ve been working on. She was inspired by a beautiful porcelain doll I was given as a child. So, like you, I’m looking forward to making some lacy Victorian dresses! But I’ll probably make her some casual modern clothes as well.

I’ve never been to a BJD doll show, but it sounds really fun!

    25. After six months, my Yael is going to be shipped out tomorrow, then it's only a few short weeks. I'm so excited to make clothes for her and the other dolls, so they can finally look like a proper little court.

      • x 2
    26. Congrats @shalottcinq ! Hope that your Yael arrives soon. My Lisette was also shipped after almost six months (yesterday), so I'm joining those waiting for their packages ^^

      • x 1
    27. So my Astrid is finally here! I ordered her the 11th of April and almost 6 month after she's home. I'm really happy with her but she has some tiny cracks on her leg (near the feet joint) and it makes me stress. Will that get worse over the time? Should I ask for the replacement? I don't know what to do! It's really tiny but I know that it exists and honestly it makes me feel really upset :(

      • x 1
    28. I would contact the retailer or Maskcat direct. I have heard their customer service is very good so hopefully they can send you a replacement part/s.

      • x 1
    29. I would love to see photos or box openings of the newly arriving girls.
I am hoping to order a 57cm Yael/Bruna next year and have recently purchased Inez (who was in stock on the new website).
Very much loving the aesthetic of these dolls and seeing what owners do with them.

      • x 1

    30. I also would recommend contacting a retailer Maskcat if you ordered directly from them. Just in case, take a good picture of the damage and attach it to your email so they can see what the issue is.

My Lisette arrived almost a week ago and I'm in love with her! She is amazing, even if she is blank for now :3nodding:

      [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I have more pictures on my instagram or flickr if you're interested in her full unboxing.

    31. Thank you @Caramello_Cat, she is beautiful.
I will head over and have a look.

      • x 1
    32. @Caramello_Cat - Your Lisette is so lovely! Honestly, I love blank dolls - they look so much like classic sculptures.

    33. I totally agree, I just adore how delicate and fragile they look when they don't have a faceup yet.

    34. Thank you for your advises! I contacted them before and they're really kind and helpful! So I sent an email with the photo of her leg and I'm currently waiting for their reply. Hope it will be resolved :)

I also find Lisette absolutely gorgeous! I'm so tempted to order her head and like this they will share the body of Astrid. Such delicate and beautiful sculpt! ♥

    35. I just ordered a Maskcat Feline direct from Maskcat. I love my Maskcat Joy so much, I can't wait to get her! In December I hope to put in an order for one of the 1/3 scale dolls. I just have to come to a decision about who to get!

      @Caramello_Cat Your Lisette is gorgeous!

      • x 2
    36. That is exciting @Dollquest! Which ones are you deciding between?
I am hoping to order a 1/3 girl in January - I think Bruna is the frontrunner at the moment.

I purchased an in-stock Inez at the end of September and she is on her way, should be with me by Friday.
      I am very excited!!

      • x 1
    37. @kimlouiseb You will love your Inez! the posing ability of the 1/6 scale dolls is amazing!

I am currently deciding between Yael, Frances, and Ronia - of course then I have to pick the skin color! I want to shell a ballerina character, so I want to get the ballet feet and hands as well. the first on I fell in love with is Astrid though. I just love her sulky expression but unfortunately, I don't think she's right for my character.

    38. My Frances arrives. And of course, she's so pretty...Still waiting for that Argodoll preorder though, so she will have to wait a bit for her body.^^

      • x 3
    39. Congrats! Did you only order a head, or are you giving a Maskcat body to another doll? I ask because your waitlist entry mentioned extra hands, so I'm not sure which.

    40. @Ara.dox Where is the Wait List for Maskcat Dolls? For some of the other Wait lists, there is a tab at the top of the Waiting Room thread, so I didn't think there was one for Maskcat.

      • x 1
    41. If you go on the BJD wiki and search for Maskcat, you'll find the link to the waiting room. I also didn't know there was one for a while.

    42. Hello everybody. Lisette(ns with makeup) was ordered yesterday(october 22)! My first bjd girl. It's very interesting what wig and eyes she will have, like on a promo or really random ...)))

    43. @Ashiva - Congratulations! Lisette is so pretty - a lovely choice for a first bjd girl! I'm curious about the random wig and eyes, too (I'm waiting for a Juni). Do you have a preferred color for the wig and eyes? I'm not sure myself - I would like black, copper, or dark blonde for the wig, and brown or blue eyes.

I'm pretty happy, too - Maskcatdoll let me add another part to my order from August (an extra Juni head that I hope to mod a little to match a character) - they gave me the sale price and let me send the extra by PayPal. They're so nice!

    44. @StellaMarigold - Thanks)
I fell in love with the shape of Liz's eyes. And the fact that she is a vampire is very interesting to me. A black wig, brown, dark wine or blond would probably suit my Liz. What about the eyes - maybe black, silver, red or green ...

Not blue eyes! Most of my dolls came with blue ones, almost the same type (four pairs).)))

      • x 1
    45. I've seen some really nice dark wine wigs - the color really suits a vampire! Black, silver, and red also sound appropriate for the eye color. I hope you can find the right combination for your Lisette!

      • x 2
    46. I got my Lisette in September with her wig from promo photos as the random one! Unfortunately, I didn't get any eyes. Congratulations on your own Lisette, she is lovely in person too.

    47. Hey everyone, it's me again, for the fourth time. XD

I just ordered a WS Willow head with faceup, directly from Maskcatdoll with the 10% anniversary event.

    48. Hi there!
Waiting for my third doll, I ordered Claire, full doll with faceup, from Maskcatdoll directly.
I'm so excited, 1/4 is my favorite doll size and Claire looks so lovely! Well, all Maskcatdolls are super gorgeous, honestly :3nodding:

    49. After a long time if waiting and debating I finally ordered Bruna. Yay x3

      • x 4
    50. Maskcat finally sent me a replacement for the broken leg part! I'm happy with their customer service and it was such a pleasure to contact them. Hope the parcel will arrive quickly! But I'm a bit afraid to restring her, she's so big :D
I'm also very tempted to order their additional feet and hand parts :kitty1

      • x 2
    51. I just ordered a Maskcat Francis in NS with the extra feet and hands that weren't included with the doll. I requested the free event Willow head in tan, but I do not know if they will do that. So excited now, but I know it will be a while!

    52. I just received notice that my Feline (26cm) has shipped!! I ordered her October 20th during the event for the new website. Now Joy will have a friend!

I'll still be hanging around for my Francis doll that I ordered in December.

    53. :dance received shipping notification for Joy today. I am so excited for this doll!

    54. I order astrid (for long time a favorite) because I always love this sculpt and just fall in love with Willow. Hope I like the sculp so much as in the photos!

    55. I ordered a Lisette on Dec 1st, and Maskcat let me know today that they're currently working on my order :) so hopefully us who ordered late October to December get our dolls in the mail soon!! <3

I'm so excited for my Lisette (Isobel) to arrive, I've done lots of sketches for her faceup, and have been saving fabric to make her some clothes. I think it might be time to start cleaning and dyeing alpaca fiber to make her wig when she arrives!

Anyone else planning for their upcoming Maskcat dolls? If folks are interested I can share my sketches of my Lisette, she's a freshly turned vampire ballerina roughly based on the 1948 film The Red Shoes :)

    56. i am getting so antsy in anticipation of my girl! is anyone else feeling the same, maybe compensating by preparing for their incoming arrival?

      • x 1
    57. @dunceclown
I also ordered a new doll from Maskcatdoll at the beginning of December. It's a Claire, full doll with company faceup. According to their schedule, my girl will be probably ready to be shipped in April....meantime, I'm buying clothes and accessoires imagining her final look :)
