Maskcat Doll waiting thread!

Sep 21, 2017

    1. Thank you! I love Margo as well and I have a second hand Nerine head I will eventually be purchasing a Maskcat body for! I really adore all of the Maskcat sculpts. They seem so elegant and life-like!

But I will for sure post pictures as soon as I've given her a faceup and a wig ☺️

    2. I did not resist...I ordered an Astrid in WS around New Year...

Now there is "only" Frances on my wishlist...but oh, do these pictures of Margo and Juni make me wonder if I should...

But no, Frances will be the last one (for now)!

      • x 1
    3. Keep thinking about Juni face-up ideas. Spent some time on Dolls Profiles, but still no clear vision on how to style her.
Do you have any images that can be inspirational or can show me your dolls please?

    4. Just updated the waitlist because my Alice's Collections layaway is now all paid. Yay!
It took me an embarrassingly long time to find the waitlist so I'm reposting it here so I don't lose it again... /doawiki/index.php?title=Maskcat_waitlist
When this order arrives, Frances will finally get her wig and then I can show you what she looks like! She doesn't look right in her temporary wig...

    5. I also ordered a tan Lilias but in the beginning of December haha :D I ordered directly through Maskcats homepage and I am also waiting on an Astrid with custom faceup from November that I got through Alices collections :) I got a mail from Alices collections that average wait time would be 5-6 months :,0 I understand that it takes time and I obviously respect the craft but I wanna dress up my doll XD

    6. My v3 57cm body (ordered September 30) arrived today! It was a huge shock since I didn't even get a shipping notification from Alice's :o Not that I'm complaining, of course. So a little less than six months, that's honestly shorter than I expected haha.

    7. Hello everyone! I loved looking at pictures of your girls. They make me so excited for my Yael. I ordered from ACBJD and Alice told me that the expected wait time should be around 5-6 months, should I take this estimate at face value?

    9. My Bruna shipped on the 27th, which means it took roughly 4.5 months inbetween ordering and shipping. Do you guys know if she uses 'regular' EMS shipping? It took 3 weeks for my last Chinese EMS package to arrive to me in Norway, which I can survive if I have to... I just want her sooner :( I'm tentatively planning on doing an unboxing video for her.

    10. @Ruinscathedral : I seem to remember it was normal EMS, but I hope your Bruna will come to you soon.

    13. She's gorgeous, congratulations! The image doesn't work for me, but the link to instagram works fine.

    14. Thank you !I am so happy she's here:) I have trouble uploading pics on Doa :( I seriously don't get how I'm supposed to copy the link. I've tried different types but somehow it doesn't appear. Do you know if there is a tutorial somewhere?

      • x 1
    15. I usually just upload it to imgur, it seems to work fine from what I've tried? Otherwise I think there's a tutorial for linking images you've uploaded to Flickr somehwere on DoA, I can't find it atm but I remember reading it awhile back.

    17. She arrived today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll post more pictures in an unboxing thread tomorrow, but I'm super happy! The body poses amazingly well, and she's adorable and gorgeous. At first I was kind of let down, because all the stuff I had bought with her character in mind really didn't suit her at all. But then I kept experimenting with different combinations of (what little I have of) clothing and wigs, and all of my reservations evaporated immediately when I tried a dark brown wig on her omg. She's so beautiful. I don't know what this means for the character I had originally planned for her, but I'll figure that out another day. For now I will just stare at her like this :chibi

The original wig & nightgown planned for her... the shade of orange doesn't suit the mauve tones of her faceup. The bangs also made her look a bit younger than I wanted, hmmm.

Then I tried a cosplay of my other doll Erzsi (who is away for a faceup). Better, but still not quite it.

But then - ! The dark hair complements her coloring so well, I was ready to go to bed right before I tried it but now I'm too excited to sleep!!!! She looks incredibly beautiful, like out of a painting.

    18. Oh wow, you're right that the brown wig really complements her faceup! How beautiful!

      • x 1
    19. @Kati1562 : She's so pretty! The clothes look well-made, did you make them?

@Ruinscathedral :The dark hair is amazing on her! The other two wigs are good too, but the dark haired version is absolutely stunning!

I totally relate for the "what, this is not what I planned feeling", the dolls that arrived so far did take on their own personality. That's a bit like children, you may plan for them all you want, but they are what they are. XD I planned for a melancholic, beautiful witch with my Maskcat Yaël and while she definitely is beautiful and melancholic, she also has a stronger character to her that I anticipated. It was even weirder with another doll, I planned for an unhealthy brooding boy and he sure was that, but also became a mad scientist. somehow XD

Congratulations on receiving her. She is truly beautiful.

    20. Thanks y'all :chibi She's my third doll, and I feel like I've gotten a surprise of some sort with every doll I've gotten so far haha. I took a couple of better photos of her today, if anyone's interested!

Anyway, I guess that's my time in the waiting thread done for now. I've been thinking of ordering a Feline or Inez sometime in the future to hang out with me at my desk, so I'm sure I'll be back!

    21. @Ruinscathedral I tried planning for my dolls in advance a few times... and only one worked to dress how I had expected. I'm glad you found a look for her that you're happy with! Seems to be part of the process to let their style come through once they've arrived in many cases ;)

    24. I'm so anxious! I ordered Astrid on Dec 6 and it feels like she should be arriving really soon, based on how long it's taken folks in this thread to get their dolls. This week will be the 5-month mark. I'm so eager for her, it's hard not to send MaskCat a quick email to check in on her status, but I also don't want to be bugging them either.

    25. @Cauldroness: I ordered an Astrid in WS too at New Year. It seems they had a bunch of order because of the event and there are the 2-weeks suspension in February because of the Lunar new year. It may be why it's taking a bit more time.

    26. I am waiting for my Lisette order from mid January. So excited about my first Maskcat Doll:dance! I just a bit scared of the German customs...

      • x 2
    27. Exciting! Lisette is so beautiful. Fwiw, Maskcat marked my Bruna down, I only had to pay like 250 Norwegian kroner for mine, so hopefully your customs fee won't be as bad as you fear! :3nodding:

      • x 1
    28. @Ruinscathedral thank you so much for this information. Did you ask them or do they mark down on their own?

      • x 1
    29. I didn't ask, so I was totally prepared to pay a ton in extra fees. It was a lovely surprise not to!

      • x 1
    30. OMG, my Lisette got a new status: in work. I wonder how long it will be now untill she ist ready, so excited!!!

      • x 2
    31. Oh wow so you waited almost 5 month to get your status changed to "in work"? And before it was marked like "new order"? Does it mean they started to make your order only now? :shudder Congratulations anyway :XD:

    32. Thx.
I suppose the status changed because I asked them about the meaning of status " new order" a week before, as it is my first order from Maskcat and I did not know, if it will ever change into something other before shipping. They told me, things got slowed down because of the chinese new year holidays in february but the are working hard to compensate it.

    33. Ah okay I see, thank you for the info : )

    34. I today received the shipping advice of my Maskcatdoll Feline, ordered at the end of December. Hopefully she will arrive soon * fingers crossed *

    35. :sumomo: I hope she arrives soon!!! I ordered mine in mid of January and got excited reading your post:whee: , perhaps my Lisette will be shipped soon aswell. Thank you for the info!

    36. Thank you for the message. I am hopeful too, as I ordered a WS Astrid and some wigs at the end of December.

      Here is to hoping!

    37. Joining this waiting room, I've ordered Maskcat 26cm Feline on 3 month layaway with Alice's Collections :whee:

    38. Hi all

I've created a Waitlist for MaskCatDoll :XD: I've only recently discovered that there are waitlists and found them quite useful. Unfortunately Maskcat didn't have one so a mod helped me create one :D

      /doawiki/index.php?title=MaskCatDoll_Waitlist

    39. I got a message, my Astrid is ready to be shipped. :dance:cheer:dance

      • x 1
    40. Congrats!!! Post pics when she arrives :D I'm thinking of possibly getting an Astrid later this year.

I'll be sending my Bruna off for a new faceup in the next couple of weeks, I'm really excited to see how she'll looked after.

    41. Received my shipping notification for Yael!! I haven't been this excited about a doll in a while, I tend to do a lot of hybriding so receiving a full doll all at once feels like such a treat :whee:

      • x 1
    42. Congratulations, @Gamine! I hope she arrives soon! When did you order?

I still reeally want to purchase a Juni, but I'm having such a hard time choosing between white skin and normal skin. Right now I'm leaning to normal :)

      • x 2
    43. @StellaMarigold Thank you!! <3 I ordered her in early February through Alice's Collections, so approximately 5 months turnaround time. I hope you can figure out your heart's desire and order your Juni soon, she will be absolutely lovely in whichever resin color you choose :love

    44. @Gamine : Yay!!!! Yaël is such a beautiful, unique face!

@StellaMarigold : My WS Astrid should be coming in the following weeks (I hope not months). If you are interested, since I am the delighted owner of an NS Yaël, I could take a picture of them side-by-side once my Astrid come home? From what I understand, the WS is ceramic white and the NS...well, it's very very light pink. (I suck at describing XD)

Now, I also hope for a speedy delivery of my Astrid, but my Yaël was stuck in a shipping limbo for a month and a half last year (granted, at the height of the COVID crisis) but if you are okay with waiting, I'll post the pictures as soon as I will get my hands on the package.

For comparison purposes, I don't think my Yaël has yellowed too much. Perhaps she was a brighter pink, but I didn't notice any strong changes. I didn't expose her to direct sunlight, but she did live out of her box.

    45. @Gamine - 5 months is quicker than I thought (I had seen some 6-7 month waits). Thank you for your reply - and for wishing me well in my decision making :)

@lyaam12 - I would love to see a comparison between your dolls when Astrid arrives (if it isn't too much trouble)! From all I've read and seen you are right that the new white skin is super white - like snow white - and the NS is a very pale natural pink. Your descriptions sound good to me!

I think both colors look beautiful in photos - my problem is more of a character-based thing. On the one hand, I've always wanted a WS doll to dress in all-white clothes like a ghost, but on the other hand, the character Juni reminds me of is a normal young girl and NS makes more sense (and probably would be easier to dress because any color would look nice, not to mention easier to photograph).

I hope your Astrid arrives safely and soon!

      • x 1
    46. @StellaMarigold : I'd be happy to snap some pictures for comparison once my Astrid arrives (she barely departed the Maskcat atelier, though, so we both still have to wait a good deal of time XD). I am not sure if I can photograph white skin that well (it is notoriously hard to photograph as you said), but it should be okay for comparison purposes.

IDK if it helps but once the WS yellows/mellows a bit, I think it could be a shade of off-white. (and some off-white dolls look fairly
human, if very pale humans: Nakana Workshop (@nakana_workshop) • Instagram photos and videos) . That's definitely what I was going for with my Astrid, as her character starts off other-wordly before mellowing a bit (pardon the pun XD). Of course, I could be totally off-base or do something weird which would cause my Astrid to have an unpleasant color, but I guess I will cross that bridge once I am there and 10 years down the road I will probably be open to dyeing. But the NS definitely looks more "youthful" and I guess "alive". And Juni does have a bright look to her.

      Good luck!

    47. @lyaam12 I'm so excited to see photos of your Maskcat girls together once your Astrid arrives, they are going to look so gorgeous!! :dance

    48. @Gamine: I'm pretty sure they will, Maskcat has such gorgeous sculpts. I do am already planning for a third Maskcat sister (Frances, in all probability on an Argodoll plus-size body for which I will probably heavily suede the shoulders and mod the neck a bit) so I guess I am fated to have quite the family. XD

I am excited to see what you will do with your Yaël! That sculpt has such potential and she's so expressive! I would love to see what she will become.

    49. @lyaam12 - You make a good point about the mellowing, and I actually really like the ivory/pale cream color that some WS dolls become after a while. As long as it doesn't go full banana!

That's interesting that mellowing is part of your Astrid's character. What a neat idea :)

The Nakana dolls are gorgeous - I probably wouldn't buy another doll in this same small SD size due to lack of space, but I might certainly be tempted to buy a head to hybrid with the Maskcat body someday if that were possible. In which case it would probably be better to go with Maskcat NS since it looks like the Nakana WS isn't pure white, but has a little color in it. It's hard to tell from the photos, though, as they are a bit dark. Decisions, decisions! Each one effects the next one haha.

    50. @StellaMarigold : I actually never saw a really banana yellow doll. Most people who says "my doll is banana-colored" or "my doll is butter-colored" show pictures that look to me...like a better flesh-color. Perhaps it is because I am of East Asian descent and certainly not pale, but most resin color that is described as "normal skin" is actually way too pale to be realistic (unless you are a corpse). Even my European-born friends seem to have more color to their cheeks than some of those fresh normal-skinned dolls! (Of course, totally a personal opinion and YMMV).

But there are plenty of things to remove the yellowing (dental cleansing solution has been mentionned I believe. It works for teeth, surely it should work for dolls?!? XD ), even partially, and I thought of doing that if push comes to shove and my Astrid becomes unbearably yellow.

If you were to consider a Nakana hybrid, it seems to me that their NS is more yellow-toned (examples: Nakana Workshop (@nakana_workshop) • Instagram photos and videos and Nakana Workshop (@nakana_workshop) • Instagram photos and videos). If I were to make a Nakana hybrid, it is IMO safer to go with a Nakana WS head because even if it's off-white, it's easier to 1) blush the head to match the body 2) blush the neck and hands of the body to a darker shade of white (IMO the best solution) 3) not caring because the head is often darker anyway. I am not sure if it is feasible to do that for a yellow-toned head to a pink-toned body (but I do suck at faceups, so there are probably better people to help you with that ^^)

But IMO, if you look at Juni and you think that the NS is lovely on her, it may be better not getting into planning too much on "what if", because it may lead to regret. (Same thing of course if you look at her and think WS). When I chose Astrid, she looked so beautiful in NS in all of the company pictures and I did try to plan too, saying NS yellows better, photographs better...but I just know I wouldn't feel it, and at one point I was just so done and was like "whatever, going with gut" XD. Of course, we are all different and I hope you will find what's best for you!

Of course, the solution may be to get 2 Maskcat dolls, one in WS and one in NS and...XD

(We definitely have similar tastes, I looked to Nakana's Arlo sculpt, as I wanted one in TS, should he ever comes with a body ^^)

    51. @lyaam12 - Thank you! I appreciate your thoughts, and I agree, sometimes you do have to go with your instinct :) I have definitely overplanned with dolls before and ended up getting frustrated over too much "what if" thinking.

You make good points about "yellow" skin and the naturalness of real skin versus most NS colors. Resin seems to have become more stable, too, as you don't hear about drastic yellowing as often as it seemed to happen with older dolls.

I might truly end up with two Maskcat dolls in the future haha! They certainly offer enough beautiful heads - I'm very fond of Margo and Ronia as well :)

    52. @lyaam12 Ooh, Frances on a curvy Argodoll body would be sublime! I will keep my fingers crossed for that plan to come to fruition sooner than later, I'm dying to see her ;)

My Yael has cleared customs and should arrive safely home within the next few days!! Hopefully I'll manage to get her customized and share her here sooner than later <3

    53. @Gamine: Within the next few days! How exciting! :dance Do share pictures of her customization, I am so excited to see your faceup skills at work! :D

The Frances project will depend a lot on when Argodoll will open the preorder (probably within the next months) and when Maskcat will sell their wigs, as I don't want to order only a head and the Maskcat wigs are very beautiful for their price. But from the pictures that Teruchan has sent me, with a few mods (sueding shoulder sockets to widen them and mod the neck to make it shorter and thinner), it should be a good hybrid, even if it would be more of a curvy body than a really heavy-set body, as the Maskcat's head is bigger than the Argodoll's head. But I decided to go for it because the Argodoll body is still beautiful and my chances of finding another heavyset body, that I like and that fit the Maskcat head are...pretty close to non-existant. XD (Heavyset bodies just aren't popular, so it's not like I can have a very large selection to choose from. )

    54. My Yael arrived last Friday (only 5 days total transit time!! God bless FedEx :XD:) and I am in total bliss, the Maskcat 57cm body is the most exquisitely sculpted and best-engineered body I've ever handled. Her face sculpt is equally exquisite, she suits her character perfectly and fits in beautifully with the rest of my crew. What an absolute treat :love

      • x 2
    55. @Gamine - Congratulations! I'm glad she arrived safely and that you love her!

      • x 1
    56. @lyaam12 - I'm patiently waiting for Maskcat to release the new wigs, too - I don't want to order until I see them (although I already like one of the wig options a lot for the potential character). I hope they show photos soon!

In regard to Argodoll, their Little Ifi 1/6 bjd was the second bjd I ever saw in person (the second I owned). I sold her on later but the original body was beautifully natural and posed nicely and the curvy body looks lovely, too. I remember seeing that the 1/3 dolls and the Maskcat dolls were pretty close in size. It sounds like a workable hybrid for sure!

Oops - so sorry to double post! I didn't realize I was doing it until I saw them side by side.

      • x 1
    57. @Gamine : Congrats on your beautiful Yaël's arrival!

@StellaMarigold : Some of Maskcat's wigs are absolutely worth it: I love the curly rufous and moonlight's one in particular, and while I am less of a fan of the other styles, it is probably because I haven't curled them yet. Teruchan kindly sent me a picture of the hybrid, and while some modes are necessary (sanding the neck down a bit and perhaps widening the shoulders by sueding them) it looks pretty good! Not heavy-set(since the Maskcat head is bigger) but definitely sexily curvy. ^^

My Astrid came home a few days ago, but I didn't have the opportunity to take a picture, here she is! I was a bit surprised by her, as she didn't look like what I was expecting, but I don't dislike it. She definitely is more "doll-like" than my Yaël, but it's not a bad thing, it's just different. The white skin is lovely, and a lot less harsh than what I was expecting. I'll post the comparison shots on the main Maskcat thread.

    58. @lyaam12 - Wow, she's beautiful! I love the dark hair with the lighter skin, and it's nice to know that the white skin isn't harsh - that's one thing I was thinking about. In this photo it has a really pretty soft glow - thank you for sharing it!

I look forward to seeing your comparison photos!
