Maskcat 26cm Line Discussion part 1

Jul 13, 2017

    1. @Calust I'd say it depends on the stand. Some are great but not all. After you have fixed the doll in the stand you can always test it gently to se if it feels sturdy. There are many types of stands that holds on to the doll in various ways. The material of the stand, the weight and the size of the foot of the stand will also matter.

    2. @Lillith I see. Well I got some wooden stands with a large base from Etsy. I'm testing it on one doll and it's been a couple of hours and so far she hasn't slipped.:thumbup I'm just not used to having dolls stand up, it's like I'm expecting her to flop any time now.

    3. You'll probably be fine, then. I display most of my dolls sitting down, but at any given time there are always a few in stands and so far I havent had any accidents. This inludes bigger dolls (and a lot heavier) on rather unsteady tables at conventions. I have come across stands that have been too weak to carry the dolls weight and stands with a base that is an oval and too narrow back to front, but those are usually pretty apparent when you set the doll up. And these little dolls are light and as an added bonus they don't have very far to fall, schould something happen, so the risk for damage is not too bad. :)
If you do want to display them sitting, some furniture ment for Barbie fits nicely.

    4. Did anyone see the event cat gift? She shows them beautifully painted and dressed in fancy sorts of Renaissance outfits. I almost bought a Joy, even though she's very similar to my Feline.

    5. The kitties are really cute! I think that she could sell them already painted in the future at least for a limited time. Feline and Joy (and also Inez) have different features especially when you see them in real life (in 3D). Actually, when I opened their boxes, I didn’t need to look at their birth certificate to know which is which and I guessed all of them right.

    6. My Joy just arrived on Tuesday and now I want a Feline and Inez :D I'm sooooo in love with Joy. <3

    7. @Araeyla Gongratulations! Joy is easy to fall for, isn't she? I'm absolutely in love with mine as well. This size is so much fun! :)

    8. Honestly I'm not sure? I'd probably buy first stuff for my pets (a ferret cage, putting some money away for vet visits etc.) and a ferret cause I love them. With the money that's left I'd buy a Model Delf Bliss because that's my main grail at the moment. And that's it, pets are expensive lol

    9. My Feline came really losely strung and I can't help but be frustrated when handling her. I tried to restring her but the elastic is too short for me to properly tighten it. Weird because my Joy poses like a champ and is strung perfectly.

    10. Just ordered my second Maskcatdoll, a Feline! She will come with the event cat gift....I wish time could run! :XD:

    11. I'm not sure I understand the problem. If the elastic is too short, the doll should be too tight, not too loose. If the doll is loose, just unstring it, tie a new knot a bit further in and restring.

    12. Hey, thanks! I was doing it wrong because I'm used to dolls with the knot in their head! I followed your advice and she's perfect now. Thank you!

    13. No problem. It's good to hear it worked out. :)

    14. I'm slowly making some progress with my Joy. Right now she is trying on the name Alyssa or possibly Amalyssa. Here I tried on a black wig instead of the brown one. It's still not quite right, but it's nice to see the possibilities.
Her outfit is also very much a work in progress. I don't know what to do about shoes. I suppose I have to make my own, but I don't know if I should do them a little bit oversized and try to pad her feet with socks, beacause right now she can't really stand on her own bacause of her tiny feet. I can sort of balace her, but she isn't steady enough to adjust the pose and clothes and it's frustrating. I am even low key considering to replace her feet with someting a bit more propotional.
Another thing missing is proper underwear and even if they won't show when she is fully dressed they will efect how the clothes hang on her body.

    15. @Flaxen Hair Girl Congratulations! Feline is a good choice. I just ordered Klara. :)

@Lillith Wow! Beautiful dress! What fabric did you use? It is perfect with her long dark hair. I use Blythe shoes and undies. I like both names but Amalyssa is very different. :)

    16. @Oliveoil Thanks! The skirt is cotton sateen and the tunic is wool. The beads are glass.
Most blythe shoes seem to be modern styles and some of them have strange proportions, I'm finding it very hard to find anything useful. I have a pair of sneakers that I'm pretty sure is made for blythe that fits her as far as the length of the foot goes, but they are almost wide enough to put both her feet in at once. I guess they are made to be worn with socks.
I may get some basic blythe shoes for her to wear when she models modern clothes, but it won't work for her fantasy warderobe.

Don't get me wrong, though. The minor troubles with ther feet aside I enjoy this doll very much! She is so much fun to make stuff for. :)

    17. Hello all!
If it helps, my Maskcatdoll Joy wears mainly shoes/boots by Azone International (made for Azone Pure Neemo dolls).
In this photo, she's wearing Azone black flats. They fit perfectly!

    18. @Flaxen Hair Girl That's good to know! Your doll is gorgeous. The clothes and setting is really cute.

    19. Thank you for sharing. Joy is so pretty. Did you make the cute outfit?

    20. @Lillith
      Thank you so much!

      @Oliveoil
Thank you! I'm actually trying to sew doll outfits but I really need a lot of practice yet :whee:
That outfit is by wimkut on Etsy, she's so talented, her outfits are always so lovely and well made :love

    21. I have bought from wimkut before. She is very talented.
This morning I received a shipping notice for Klara! That was fast!
I ordered December 23rd. :) I requested a faint sprinkle of freckles across her nose.

    22. @Oliveoil
Woha, congratulations! It's fast, really! I'm now crossing my fingers for my Feline: I ordered her at the end of December too :aheartbea

    23. Great! Hopefully she will ship soon. :)

    24. I'm wondering, does any of you guys have companions for these dolls from other companies? I am pretty new to this size and I'm trying to build up a general idea of what is out there. I look for anything that fits well both size and scale -wise. Things that are close but won't work for one reason or another would also be useful to know.
So, what else do you guys have in your collections?

    25. I have a MYou slim 27 cm doll, and my Feline, at 25cm, is like a little sister to her.
She was designed to wear Blythe clothes and shoes, so there's a huge variety out there. I usually shop on Etsy. Feline has longer legs and a larger waist, so very fitted outfits might not fit.

    26. That is good to know. You wouldn't happen to have a photo of them together?

    27. There's a photo on the MYou discussion thread, I think.

    28. Klara arrived safely. I love the three together.

    29. Where do you buy wigs for the smaller headed ones? I am thinking of buying an Inez but I’m worried wig options would be too limited. I tried googling 3-4in wigs but the smallest I could find is around the 5-6 range

    30. I've got a couple of Dollmore wigs from their '(4-5) 16" fashion doll' category. The fit is good, but the wavy ones can be a bit on the puffy side.

    31. Blue Fairy sells some 3-4” wigs for their Pocket Fairies (Bluefairy International-I will always be here for you) but they are having a wig clearance sale right now, so they might be out of some of them.

Fatiao, a taobao seller on etsy, also sells wigs that size (Fatiao Doll shop by fatiao on Etsy)

Edit to add one more! Hannasu (they used to make faux mohair wigs for Leeke World, but are now their own company) has beautiful faux mohair wigs in size 3-4". Their heat-resistant fiber wigs only go down to size 4-5" inches, though. (Here's the link to the 3-4" faux mohair wigs: LM Wig - 3~4inch)

    32. I can add that I have a 3-4" dollmore wig as well and that is too small, so make sure to research the maker to see if they run large or small and how much stretch they have. I can force the smaller wig onto the head, but it pops right off again.
The circumference of Joy's head is just a tiny bit over 4", so it makes sense.

    33.
Thank you, I’ll take note of this! I wonder if it’s the same for Inez

Thank you for the info! I am now more convinced I should get an Inez

    34. I've been having some fun doing crochet for my Joy (still nameless). I didn't intend to make a multi-layered, all crochet outfit, but that's what happend.

Normally I'm a carachter person. Most of my other dolls have their own style, personallity, backstroy etc. But this little girl is essentially just a mannequin so far, but I'm having so much fun making things for her that I don't care. :whee:

      • x 10
    35. I really want to know this too! Especially for the 18cm bobble head dolls.

    36. I bought two mohair wigs from Natrume on Etsy and they look amazing in them. They fit perfectly and she even included some tacky glue with them.

I also own Limhwa (EosDoll) Sara and Mari and they can kind of share clothes, even very tailored dresses I made them. They don't really look like same species though.
I think maybe MetisDoll 24cm dolls or Little Monica Muse Sarubia could look good with them?

    37. I'm adding Little Monica Muse dolls to my further research list. Thanks!

    38. I ordered a Xagadoll Mini Ted many moons ago because I wanted a doll with an open mouth. When I get her, hopefully in June, I'll post a picture of her next to a Maskcat doll. I think that they will look good together because they share similar dimensions.

      • x 3
    39. That would be great. Thanks!

    40. This isn't the greatest wig on poor Avery (they have a new one now...) but here's a pic of my Feline next to a Xagadoll Mini Ann! I think Ann has about the same head proportions as Ted.

Aaaand this is possibly less helpful, because Feline is all the way on the end, but here's every mature 1/6 doll I currently have (in varying states of dress, completion and... wig-having-on.

There's a few other dolls in there, so I hope that's helpful! I posted the list of who is in that picture in the mature 1/6 thread, here. (Edit: HaHA! Images: fixed!)

    41. @Idoru Those pictures are very helpful! Thank you. And I did see the pictures in the mature 1/6 thread, a lot of good references there as well. :)

(The pictures may be a bit too large. It's been a problem for over a year now. You can try to edit your pictures smaller before uploading, simply chosing a smaller viewing size in places that allow that may not make any difference. But the pictures are visible in the reply-box so it's possible for people to see them even if they don't always show up in the post. I've also noticed that sometimes refreshing the page can coax pictures to show up.
There is a notice at the very top of the forum about it.)

    42. Huh! Thanks for the tip about the pictures, although I'd be surprised if that was it... They were only about 1200x900? (I must not have fully processed that notice and then dismissed it...)

Edit: Ah ha! You were right, because I habitually save everything as .png—so the dimensions are web-friendly and the filesize less so. Thanks!

Just so this isn't just me having a very special moment, here are some pics from when I took my girl Mimosa (a tan Feline on the first body) out for a nature walk. I haven't played with my dolls much this last year, and it felt so good to take her out and take these photos! She's like a cute fashionable forest fairy...

For anyone curious about "what fits", here's what Mimosa is wearing: a pair of Momoko shorts (I think I bought them from Taobao but it was years ago so I don't remember the shop—sorry!), a Barbie top (that I THINK is actually meant to fit like a crop top), and those are actually Barbie shoes too! Made for the Petite fashionista I think. Any flat-footed Barbie shoes I've found have worked out really well, these are just my favorite. They really pop against her pretty tan resin!

    43. Here’s a quick pic of how the different dolls (MYou, Maskcat, Xagadoll) look like next to each other with wigs and fully clothed in the same style. I think that they can look like they belong in the same universe.[IMG]

    44. Oh thank you for this pic! I agree, they don't look like they're from totally different planets. (They all look so cute in those dresses, too!)

    45. They're all so nice, what are each of the sizes?

    46. @Calust Thank you for this. I am still learning about what's out there for this size and any reference picture is very welcome. And I agree, your girls look great together.

    47. Here are their measurements, stellarphenomena:

      Maskcat: 24.8cm
      Xagadoll: 27cm
      Myou: 27.8cm

    48. After seeing everyone's pictures of Joy my Inez might just need a sister.

    49. Hi there!
My Maskcatdoll Feline arrived home few days ago - I ordered her at the end of December, during the 7th Year Event.
Shipment from China to Italy took around 10 days by EMS, but the parcel was stuck at Customs for more than two weeks
Anyway she's here! Once again, I'm very happy with my purchase, Maskcat dolls are so lovely!

She's wearing the company blonde wig but I will probably change it to a shorter one...

    52. @Dollquest She is lovely! Congratulations on your new doll. What are your plans for her?

    53. Thank you! I plan to spoil her rotten! I’ve already bought her a chair swing and several patterns for clothing. I’ve made her shorts and a pair of jeans. Oh, and a travel bag. She is the perfect size to take with me when I go somewhere. I love the Maskcat dolls and there are sure to be some more in my future! It will be fun to look at everyone else’s here.

    54. @Dollquest That sounds great. Your doll has had a great start so far.
They really are a great size for play and to bring with you, aren't they? :)

    55. Yes, they are! And thank you!

    56. Hello everyone
I have just purchased a tan Inez and have been excitedly reading through this thread.
There are some in stock dolls on the new website and I couldn't resist. :-)

    57. @Dollquest Joy is very pretty. I like the dress and coat. :)
Congratulations @kimlouiseb . It is nice she is offering dolls in stock. Did you get a face up or blank?
I love Maskcat dolls. I have 2 with the small head and 3 large head. I like that they can wear Blythe clothes. :)

    58. Thanks @Oliveoil. I got her with a face up - usually I would have a go at doing it myself but they are just so tiny.
I've already ordered a few Blythe outfits but i'm sure it will be a few weeks until she gets here.

    59. @kimlouiseb I wonder how long the wait time is for dolls in stock with face up. You will have to keep us updated.

@Flaxen Hair Girl! Your girls look so cute! I love the sailor style dresses.:)

    60. @Oliveoil Very cute! I always like how you style your girls.

      My Klara arrived today :).
