This is a great tutorial! I will admit, my glue wasn't as sturdy (or maybe my fabric was too thick), so I sewed most of it. The only problem I came across was that the heels were too loose, so they didn't stay on. Hopefully I can get that fixed and make a better second try! http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac2/Tempete17/IMG_6102_zps1f674595.jpg
This is so amazing. I am making a mini-me and mini-Hanson's so TOMs are a must have for my doll family! Has anyone tried adding further detail like the TOMS text printed on the flag and side tabs? I wonder if those nail polish pens (the ones the sell for intricate nail designs) a fine point sharpie or even paint on a small detail brush would work? I'm going to try one of the above mentioned methods when I make mine and I'll post pictures for sure! Thanks for this amazing tutorial - you rock!! PS sorry to bump an oldish thread!
Wow, this is a great tutorial! Thanks for sharing This is awesome also because you can use almost any pattern and fabric and it'll look like the real deal, unlike the higher end luxury brands like Louis Vuitton or Burberry pattern shoes, they will most likely look "fake" xP I was actually wondering if the tiny TOMS would fit the smaller sized BJDs, the ones that are made for toddlers/babies. Has anyone tried them perhaps?
My 58" SD girl has a foot measurement of 7.2cm/2.83in and TOMs smallest size is a T2 which has a measurement of 3.75in/9.53cm so they'd be almost an inch too big. IDK if some larger SD's (maybe 70cm) might be able to fit the real ones. Best bet is to measure your doll's foot and then see if it matches any measurements on the size chart on the TOMs website. TOMs in the tiny sizes run between $20-59 though... using this tutorial you could definitely save some bucks by making a pretty good look-a-like. P.S. You may also run into issues with the width of the foot and the width of the shoe. These shoes are made for infant feet and not doll feet so the fit may be shoddy. Even after checking measurements I'd find a brick and mortar shop near you that you can take your doll to and try them on before purchase. this link: http://www.toms.com/store-locator/ will help you find a retailer near you. I would also recommend calling ahead to make sure they carry the size you need so you don't waste gas or time.
Yeah, I know about the price, since technically you'd be buying human shoes, not for dolls, although some doll shoes do run for the same amount, haha! The only good difference is knowing you paid that much for a doll but still helped a less fortunate child by supplying him with a pair of shoes And you're right, I don't think they'd fit snuggly on an SD or a larger doll, since they're made to look like adults with "slender" feet and babies, well they have chubby feet after all :P Sadly, no TOMS retailer here where I live, and sometimes if I'm lucky I can find some for my size, not for any babies, but I'm not really looking into actually buying some for my doll, just curious about the fitting that's all. Thanks for the input though!
You are very welcome. I'm an avid toms fan and I recently bought some infant ones for my nephew. After seeing the width of them I just don't think they'd work for bjds because as you said they are scale models of adult feet which are differently shaped than infant/toddler feet. It would be nice to be able to support the one for one cause though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
