Major Problem with Demon Garden

Jan 16, 2009

    1. it is in fact possible to restring him while leaving his head like that. PMing you now to go into more detail without sending the thread on a tangent.

my other thoughts were: in full daylight, with sharp/bright lighting, take as many pictures as you can before packing him up to ship out. include in those photos a hand-written note with your screen-name and the date. and inform the company that you have documentation as to what state the doll was in when it left your hands. do not give them any openings or chances to blame you.

    2. Personally, I would not deal with EMS at all, but with the Demon Garden. [I know that you are now, but stand your ground. ;)] If they marked it as only valued at ten dollars that is THEIR MAJOR error, and that's probably where the shipping errors begun with EMS.

Not to mention it's packed poorly.

I'd unwrap all the packing and weigh (use a cooking scale) it, and then ask someone who is receiving a doll recently to weigh their packing. It could be of no difference of all, and be all about how they packed it. Though, the amount usually makes a difference too. I'd offer to do it with you, but my doll won't come until late February. Also, compare packing--did you get a face plate? Was the doll's head thickly wrapped, and how about it's neck?

(I know, you're pulling this from memory but I'm sure you can tell the difference if you see someone else's doll. "Hey, my doll didn't have that!" Or this? Ya know?)

I agree about the pictures thing, take as many as you can. Best of luck!

    3. I wouldn't order from them. Pretty doll, but if they accuse her and don't give her any money for the doll, and want to ship it back, what's she to do with it? She can't get the head off! And he has a crack at the eye. He's about junk!

    4. My sister-in-law's Beau had the exact same problem, incidentally - at least with the neck, not with the eye.

It is not EMS' fault. I believe it is a flaw of the mold, because he doesn't have a neck piece inside the head - the S-hook has to attach directly to the headcap, so if he's tightly strung and the resin is weak, the string will pull the head down onto the neck hard enough to crack it.

She had however bought him from HappyHouse. I emailed HappyHouse with some clear, closeup photos of the damage. They were very nice and immediately sent a replacement head.

I recommend taking better pics... it looks like your camera is focusing on the background instead of the doll.

I'm not sure if this will help at all, but here are the photos I took of the damage on my sister's doll (I took his head off):

Like HappyHouse did, Demon Garden needs to send you a new head. I hope everything works out! Good luck! <3

    5. That is really horrifying. I really liked a beau I saw in the gallery today but I absolutely won't buy one :( It makes me wonder how DG will hold up over time...

    6. i'm starting to think maybe they're using too short of a string and the extreme tension is pulling the head down onto the neck (which would cause the cracking by the eye) since the s-hook is attached to the headcap....

    7. http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f59/elisa_maza/insidehead01.jpg
Okay, so the neck hole is pretty big to begin with..... to me this is poor engineering.. the neck opening at the bottom of the head should be a socket for the neck to rest in, not a gaping hole which forms a weak point that may eventually succumb to the pressure of the neck being forced up into it.

It's pretty important that you be able to take some clear and sharp photos to send to them to show the damage.

    8. Looking at Elisa-maza's photo, I have to agree with Twigling... the neck hole looks like it may be too large... all the pressure of the elastic tension is being focused on a very thin ledge. I can see where tight stringing coupled with shipping stress (temperature change, impact) could make the neck act like a wedge, there is not much material to stop the neck from being shoved/pulled up into the head.

Since someone else has had this similar problem, it may help you with your Paypal claim.

Too bad, those Demon Garden boys are nice looking dolls.

    9. maybe Demon Garden should be directed to this thread and see the opinions of everyone, surely they can see that we think their doll is defective, and will lose some sales because of this horror.

    10. You should try sending Elisa_Masa's pictures as well to show them that the head itself is defective. Though I'm sure they probably know that it might help to let them know that you're aware this is not a one time incident.

    11. This is horrific! I'm also really interested about how the neck hole would effect it so much- i'm a dunce at anything to do with engineering so this is very fascinating to me. I think my CP El has a really large neck hole too..but I never would have imagined it could cause something like this.

I do hope you get some good news sweety!!! I really feel for you- especially as this is your first doll. It is becoming a bit of a trend that dolls are going missing or damaged recently, and companies are basically saying "tough titties" which is not good enough.

    12. i send them a new message with elisa's pictures as well, maybe do some screen shots of the thread posts.

tell them you will not ship the doll back with out a refund due to how they are handling the situtation they have already judged without even having the evidence that they say they need to judge. that the pictures show you obviosuly didn't do this.

and inform them if they do not you will file a claim through paypal and your credit card company for the costs.

but from how they are behaving DO NOT SHIP HIM BACK WITH OUT A REFUND OR PROTECTION! if you do make sure you file a cliam with paypal and or your credit card company the same day

paypal is 45 days, most credit cards are 60-90 days.

    13. I'm seeing a lot of people getting discouraged from buying Demon Garden dolls altogether... I wanted to say that this problem seems to be mostly with Demon Garden themselves, as a company. I bought a body and my sister-in-law bought her Beau from HappyHouse, and when hers was broken (see above), thy were very nice and immediately sent a replacement.

As I said before, and others have said as well, the neck hole is a design flaw. If DG gets enough notices of this problem occuring, hopefully they will change the mold. But if you want one, or maybe even want to mod it, I recommend going through HappyHouse rather than DG.

    14. :( very sad thread!!! well one thing occurs to me and that is that you at least have a whole body right now that you could sell to get some of your money back. My concern is they may well actually charge you shipping to send it back to you after they deem you are at fault. Of course if they can they will be the tone of the exchanges. Who made them the judge? you are going to be mad as hell then and very sad !!!!

Well .... If it was me I guess I at this point I would request a replacement head shipped at their expense and then when the head arrived I would string it up and sell the doll. Pointing out any neck scratches. Paypal is an option but I have found them to be useless when its none ebay related.
They need to understand that they need to replace that head because it is cracked from the corner of the eye up to the temple brow area.

I totally understand you just wanting this doll gone from your life too. I wish the company was still on the board and not banned so that it might have much more of an effect on them to see that we buyers do not support bad business!

You need to remind them about that crack!!!

I absolutely agree the neck hole design is much to large. I have a large family of dolls here and NONE have neckholes that large the design is flawed.

    15. I'm so sorry about your doll, this sort of thing should never happen with a person's first doll but unfortunately it does. I agree you should remain on DG's case and not let this slide by, keep on them until you get a refund. They need to reconsider their designs as it seems this is a prevalent problem which is too bad considering their boys are good looking dolls.

    16. I'm not sure if elisa's photos will help, since they're from a different company, but this is really horrible. If the Demon Garden doll has a similar design, you can at least see how something like this could happen, but I agree if you can get your own photos as clear as hers then it would be hard to dispute.

I would also be curious to see photos from someone else that owns a DG doll to compare. I hope this gets resolved fast and without too much more stress on your part.

    17. elisa's doll is the same doll bought through a dealer. why would that not help?

    18. I thought that was her sister's Happy House doll? Maybe I just got confused, but that's what I read. :sweat

    19. it was a demon garden doll (same mold as the one in this thread) bought through happy house.

    20. Ooh, okay, my mistake. I thought they were two different dolls. But that definitely proves it's a design flaw.

*edit* Yeah, I totally missed the mold name, silly me.

    21. That's me. ;) I posted further up that in fact we did have the same problem (That Beu belongs to my sister-in-law) of the broken head. HappyHouse resolved it by sending her a new head, but I do believe it is a design flaw.

    22. Ohhhh! LOL I forget to check my facts ::facepalm::

Does there seem to be any problem with the new head? I REALLY like your Basil and he would maybe go on the wishlist if this gets worked out.

    23. Okays I've stopped posting here for a while as DG saw this thread and became rather outraged and accused me of lying about their company and putting down the quality of their dolls. They also insisted they they were ALWAYS all along willing to solve the problem however it was me who was uncooperative.

I explained to them I only posted it on DOA to ask for some help and assistance as I was at quite a loss at what to do.

Since they said that they were going to solve the problem I was quite stupidly going to ship the doll back tomorrow however they sent another email saying that

1.) EMS records show that the doll was in my posession for 7 hours before I contacted DG dolls and that I could've done a lot to the doll in that 7 hours.

2.) The pictures taken with my camera are not clear at all and show no sign of abnormality or damage. They also basically said my camera skills were " cr*p " for lack of better word. Sorry for the..swearing.

3.) The S hook was removed and I damaged the doll myself.

Also they outright accused me of lying and said quite clearly " you caused the damage yourself we will NOT refund you"

I was quite upset by this email and to all the 3 excuses they gave I answered:

1.) The package arrived at my parents shop before they could take it home and I was not told to open it straight away.

2.) I'm sure even if the crack does not show up well there is quite an obvious problem which is the neck too far on the neck.

3.) The S hook HAD to be removed anyways as they had told me before that " ways to solve the problem please remove the head" to my knowledge you have to remove a S hook to take off the head.

Also I had both my parents plus another skilled chinese/english translator friend to read it, and and she who had no knowledge of BJD's said all the reasons they gave were basically excuses more than valid reasons and they clearly DID NOT want to take responsibility.

The tone of this email was very rude however to all of them I replied in a firm but still polite matter, to this email I basically told them since they were changing their mind so often about whether they were going to treat this matter or not, were they going to take responsibility or not.

They did not reply for an entire day and when they finally replied their tone was EXTREMELY rude.

They said that what I have explained to them about the problem and also the pictures I provided proved NOTHING. And that everything I have said is a fabrication and not the truth.

And that my "doings"<( the word they used) on DOA causes them to be suspicious of MY character. ( This sentence is highly upsetting as I have been none other than polite to them)

They also said it is not us not wanting to take responsibility as a manufacturer but they were sure of the quality before they handed it over to the EMS.

And that before they gave me opportunities to explain and prove to them in they case the doll MIGHT HAVE had problems ( and the FULL proof required by us)

They said : " we would've taken responsibility however you have no proof. All along you've hidden and refused to give proper evidence and pictures so they could determine the REAL cause of his damage.
Also the truth to WHAT we have gathered in evidence proves that you have been lying all along. "

      ________________________________________________________

In the last sentence they are basically saying they have come to the conclusion that
I am a big fat liar and have been all along from the so called "evidence" they have gathered.

They also mocked me saying " why'd you post it on DOA no one can help you except for us"
And I've already mentioned it but they also insulted me as a person several times.

Their tone was a lot more cocky and basically rude and obnoxious since I stopped updating on DOA but the reason for not updating on DOA is because they told me to cease attacking their company and lying about them not taking responsibility since they would. They also told me to apologise to them....

So I was trying to give them a chance and stopped updating on DOA since they HEAVILY insisted they they had been trying to help all along while I didn't follow their procedure.

However now it has become quite obvious they do not/will not take responsibility and it feels like I'm trying to reason with a brick wall.

They also do not reply during the day on very late into the night. Normally past 12, this has been a rather tiring ordeal for me and my family as well as upsetting.

My next step was going to paypal but some people have said that it is useless ? So any suggestions on what to do...and err...how to file for dispute on paypal as I am quite inexperienced.

Very sorry for the long post and thanks everyone who have been kinda all along and offered help and suggestions. ^^"

Also sorry if I repeated myself a lot, there were a lot of emails and content I had to translate ><" and if it was too confusing to understand I will update later if I forgot to type anything.

    24. I'm glad you've posted this.

I'm going to stay clear from DG after the way they have treated you

there is nothing wrong with showing people a problem you have encountered and asking for advice.

i wish i could help you but i dont know what to say =[

i hope this experience doesn't scare you away from BJD's in total =[

    25. strawberrysodaz, that is absolutely terrible. :x DG is acting completely inappropriately in every way. If they looked at this thread, they should have seen my photos as well.

It's pretty obvious you can't reason with them, so all I can tell you is try and file a claim with paypal. >> Link

I do recommend trying to take better/clearer photos. Paypal might turn down your claim if they can't see what you're talking about. If your camera won't take good pics, try to see if a friend or a friend's parents maybe have a better one?

I hope everything gets resolved for you, and I'm really sorry you're having such a horrifying experience. For the most part, the companies are very nice.

    26. WOW... DG is officially off my list and it is a shame... Their dolls really have potential, but you cannot treat people like that. ABJDS are a very feedback oriented industry and they have basically just destroyed themselves.

    27. That is absolutely horrifying. What a horrible way to treat you! Did you pay by credit card through Paypal? If you did, I would initiate a charge back right away, it's probably more likely you'll get your money that way.

I have nothing else to say, I'm so shocked. I will never ever deal with a company who handles their problems in such a way.

    28. With an attitude like that DG can't expect to sell many dolls. Now that their heinous customer treatment has been made public I can't imagine anybody reading this thread would order from them.

This is really terrible, go ahead and file a PP claim if you can.

To file a claim log into PP and in the list of transaction find the one with DG and open that page. Near the bottom there should be a thing that says:

Click on Resolution Center and check the appropriate boxes and go from there. I don't know how much PP can help you but I wish you the best of luck. It doesn't look like DG is going to do anything.

    29. I...just wow. They could have solved this entire problem so easily, and now they've just gone and shot themselves in the foot by being so rude and, just...nasty. I'd file a Paypal claim immediately and up it to a dispute. I can't even believe this. I feel so badly for you. :(

    30. Wow, I'm so sorry you had to go though all of that. It sounds like a good thing you didn't send the doll back to them. At least you have the undamaged body, and the body is where most of the cost comes from. If you paid through paypal using a credit card you can contact your credit card company about it, and they should take care of it.

Yeah, no kidding. What did DG think was going to happen? The abjd community isn't all that big and people talk to each other--customer service that bad isn't going to go unmentioned. I really did like their sculpts, but there's no way I'd give them any of my money now.

    31. That is just completely inexcusable and outrageous - I don't think I'll ever consider buying from them after this.

File a paypal claim, or initiate a charge-back, and present them with this information along with everything you've tried to tell DG.

Most companies allow a week (that's SEVEN DAYS) since the arrival of the doll to report an issue with the doll. Please, don't get discouraged with this hobby. There are plenty of other companies with great customer service and beautiful dolls.

And to the DG reps, if they happen to read up on this thread:

It really would've cost you much less to replace this Beau's head than what it's going to cost you now. Several people, myself included, have already stated they are never going to buy from you because of your horrendous treatment of one customer. And I'm certain others who chance upon this thread will be weary of giving their money to you now - especially since another CUSTOMER had come in testifying that the head does indeed have a faulty design. You've just lost a lot of potential sales; I hope you're happy. :daisy

    32. Wow. That just...awfu. Nthing the paypal claim and best of luck to you getting this resolved. I hope the DG reps realize how much damage they've done to their company by behaving this way.

    33. This is AWFUL, and I for one intend to make sure word gets around that DG is not a company you can trust or should deal with. By not helping you, and in fact ACCUSING you, they have made themselves totally untrustworthy. I say go after them by comtacting your credit card company AND Paypal. Yes, go to Paypal--call them if you have to--and file a complaint. DG took your money fraudulently.

    34. strawberrysodaz, not that I doubt you or anything, but could you post their messages here? (Removing any personal information that might have been exchanged like real names, addresses, phone numbers, etc., in the process of course.) I'm curious as to what they actually consider to be acceptable business practice. The whole thing is just unacceptable and so utterly off-putting based on what you said.

As others before me have so rightly said, please go through Paypal and/or your credit card company to seek reimbursement. This isn't normal in this hobby by any means, please don't give up on it yet. :] There are many companies who are actually much more interested in the happiness and satisfaction of their customers than Demon Garden, whom I will never buy from or deal with after reading about your ordeal with them.

    35. All i can say is: wow, what jerks. I hope DG gets a look at this thread again and sees how much damage they did to themselves.

also, I would like to state how ridiculous their accusation is. Why would a person damage a doll on purpose? I mean, you just got the darn thing and it's not like you where looking for your money back, just a replacement? Why would someone get a doll, damage the head on purpose just to receive the exact same thing again..... makes no sense at all. I mean that's not even a good scam.. what exactly do they think you want from them?

    36. I agree, it would be nice if you could post the actual content of their messages, minus any personal info of course. It should be public just how bad they acted.

    37. If the message was in Chinese, there are Chinese speakers (such as myself) on the forum, we can confirm if in fact that is what they said to you

      Best of luck

    38. strawberrysodaz, one more thing--you have every right to complain to any and every one who will listen! Where does DG get off, telling you that they are mad you posted here? I hope they are aware that this board is THE LARGEST ENGLISH SPEAKING BJD BOARD IN THE WORLD---and I hope their company crashes entirely because of this incident. Companies need to be aware that they must stand behind their dolls and services, or the BDJ community will not tolerate them.

So off I go to email this entire thread to about 125 people, who ALSO have other contacts in the BJD world--and I am sure they will forward this email too.

As was pointed out, it would have cost them much less if they had just acted in good faith and replaced your damaged doll. This now may very well cost them their entire company.

    39. I worked for 5 years in the customer service of a very small company selling a luxury item... and I have no words for this. that's not the way, treating your customers like that... you need to work together with the customer, to understand and sometimes lose a tiny bit of money in order to achieve satisfaction. it's part of the business - take it or leave it

I have no words for such a way of acting, of accusing (!!!), and I feel terribly for you having this as your first experience with a BJD.

    40. Post it on bad dolly deals on Live Journal too. I won't buy from them ever!

    41. And another company hits the "DO NOT BUY" list. What is WRONG with customer service atm?! Wow, she had the doll 7 WHOLE HOURS, well I'm sure that during that time she probably...ya know...WENT TO WORK TO PAY FOR IT as opposed to spent her time doing it that much of a damage. Oy.

I'm fourthing the vote to see what they actually said in the mails, if they're being this uppity, tell the world, the buying masses vote with their paypal accounts and I think customer service might just improve a tad once they notice the dent in sales this is likely to cause. It's truly appalling that they're accusing the OP of doing any of that deliberately when the doll was SO obviously damaged in transit! Good greif it might as well have postal service tape on it and a big sign saying "DROP ME" *eyeroll*

I sincerely hope this hasn't put you off BJD's strawberrysodaz, if you can, nail them with the paypal/credit card claim!

    42. This is utterly appalling. I will NEVER buy a DemonGarden doll, despite the fact that they have some sculpts that are quite appealing to me.

Open a dispute with PayPal, and make SURE your parents are also on it, and send along all of DemonGarden's insulting and accusatory messages with it, to prove the kind of company you are dealing with. If your purchase was paid via credit card with PayPal, ALSO open a dispute via the credit card company. If it was via your bank, open a dispute via your bank. PayPal might stall, your bank or credit card company will likely not. To get help with the bank or credit card company, call their customer service line.

    43. Goodness gracious, the absolute nerve of Demon Garden!

I was thinking that elisa_maza's Beau looked kind of nice too, but there's no way I'd ever, ever buy a product from them EVER unless they post some kind of a public apology to make up for their major disrespect and bad customer service as shown in this thread.

    44. PM'd you, strawberrysodaz.

also, Victoria Victrix's advice is quite solid -- explore every avenue you can to get your money back if at all possible.

    45. I am fine with posting their emails up, but I read somewhere we're not allowed to post chinese on the forums or...did I read wrong? ><"

I can even post my emails up if needed ^^

Thanks for all the advice guys, much appreciated.

    46. I think you can post Chinese in this case, the mods just don't want people having conversations in Chinese since this is supposed to be an English forum.

    47. yeah, i can remember the rules exactly but i think your allowed to post Chinese for others to translate for you and other similar situations (such as this one) your just not allowed to chat in chinese.

but if someone translates it i don't see the problem, they did that in the new dollshe threads so I'm pretty sure its allowed...

    48. i can't believe this has happened to you its just awfull i too as a lot of others am just in shock and dont know what to say. i really hope u can get somewere with a paypal claim i really feel for you and i hope that u can get this resolved

    49. Just... buh... wha? I don't understand how any company thinks they can treat customers in such a... downright condescending manner and get away with it :horror:.

I hope things work out for you, this is such an unfortunate experience to have to go through on your first doll.

    50. I now know that DemonGarden is a definate "Do Not Buy," as dolls go... there's no reason at all to ever treat a customer how they've treated you, and between this and the fact that their representative on this forum was banned for poor behavior, makes me realize they don't have any real business sense. I'd rather stay with companies that behave with respect and dignity, even if they sometimes take time to admit their mistakes, rather than ones that accuse repeatedly, get huffy about what you post publicly about them, and can't even follow simple forum rules.

Wow, Demon Garden. Way to be professional.

    51. I won't buy anything from them, thats for sure.
      Its too bad too...oh well.

I know most banks and credit card companies will refund your money while they investigate the charge. They're much more thorough than paypal ever is. I used to work for a credit card company and they'd refund the customer permanently the large majority of the time (including charges for things not as described or damaged in shipping) so I'd recommend trying to use your bank/credit card company to get your money back. Paypal can be useful sometimes but...they don't put as much effort into making fair decisions most of the time (in my experience)

    52. Okays well here's the first email in Chinese which is basically the Chinese version of the English one I posted about grinding: (for easier reading bold were the emails they sent and italics is the emails I sent)

Once the package arrived and I opened it straight away the product was damaged, and it arrived in the condition.
Which I have sent photographs of to you.

Several other BJD owners have also said it would've been impossible for the head to be "grinded"
      into the neck by me.

Here are more photos of the product in the condition it arrived in.

The head is not able to be removed as it is too far down the neck, with the S hook and stringing
removed a NORMAL head should fall down.

A close up of the crack.

As this product has arrived in this poor condition I am very upset and I want a refund.

On DOA I was asking for advice as I did not know what to do. I never stated that your dolls are bad
I was saying the one I recieved was damaged, I have never told anyone to not purchase from your
      company or said anything bad.

Maybe you did not read carefully but I am not guilty of what you have accused me of.

1.) I have NOT said that your dolls are bad I am talking about the doll that was sent to me.

All that I have said is that the doll I recieved was damaged with the 2 problems of the crack and the head
too far down on the neck and asked what I should do.

2.) Also your suggestions of removing the head, I have told you that I could not do that because
of the CRACK in the eye and the head too far on the neck I was too scared to move it because I did not want
to cause further damage. I have also told you that it arrived to me in that condition.

I have not "attacked" your company or your dolls, on DOA I was asking for advice and help for the doll I revieved
      and the problems encountered.

Before I was very happy ordering one of your dolls however after this it has made me quite upset, as
I never expected the doll to arrive like this and so many problems.

      Thankyou

      Then they sent:

I will send the doll back to you tomorrow.

On DOA I was only trying to find information as they have experience and I have none because this is my first BJD. Because at first the emails you sent felt like you were accusing me of damaging the BJD myself. Why would I damage my own BJD which I loved so much. So you cannot blame me for thinking this because at first you did not seem willing to solve the problem and not wanting to take responsibility. While I quickly contacted you and sent pictures and tried to find a solution.

Since you are always saying that you have wanted to reseolve this problem all along in the last email you sent I now feel like you want to solve this problem I hope I can trust that you are a good company and that this problem will be solved well.

Then they sent several emails I replied to the 4th:

In all your emails you are sometimes you are telling me to help you fix the problem while now sometimes you are telling me that you will not take responsibility.

All the reasons you stated seem to be excuses for you not to take responsibility. The package arrived to my parents shop and they had to take
it home before I could open it, you never said I had to open the package straight away.

After I opened it, the doll was in THAT condition which I sent photos to you of. I did not cause any damage to the doll. There was a problem with the doll when it arrived which was the crack and head too far down the neck.

The S hook was taken off because YOU told me to, you said " ways to solve problem please remove the head" to try to remove the head I would have to take off the S hook.

I tried to take pictures which were as clear as possible and I am not a professional camera person. They are clear enough that you can tell there IS an obvious problem.

All your complains against me are more of excuses than valid reasons, it just seems you DO NOT want to help me solve this problem and DO NOT want to take responsibility.

Since you have told me many different things I want to confirm if you are going to solve this problem and take responsibility or not.

They did not reply for a while and then they sent this which I haven't replied to...

    54. That's insane! Other people have reported having the same issue with DG dolls. It's a design flaw. If they can't accept that their dolls are flawed; they aren't going to sell many.

Yes, go to Paypal! Save the corospondence as well as the photo evidence. I'd send it all to paypal. Or at least as much of it as you can.

    55. can you translate the Chinese? maybe put it in colored text or something

    56. The last 2 emails they sent I have translated, well tried to..><" and their basic meaning and it's on page 5 ^^ if needed I can copy and paste it here

    57. oh never mind then =]
      how did i miss that??

    58. Wow. I haven't posted until now, but it is definitely clear that the company cannot handle themselves in a professional manner. You cannot run a business like that. None of their responses have been professional, and they seem more concerned with avoiding the responsibilty than actually confronting the problem. At this point, it is clear that they will do little if anything to help you, unfortunately.

If you paid by credit card, I suggest initiating a charge-back.
